Such a cool theater! I would highly recommend ordering tickets online since there is assigned seating and seats sell early. When you walk in, there are self service kiosk on either side of the ticket stand. We weren't sure about the rockers vs the recliners, but the recliners were the way to go! The theater was well thought out and designed beautifully but still true to the Cinema Cafe brand. The menu and pricing on food is the same as the other locations as well. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Parking. Parking is absolutely awful. Here you have this gorgeous theater in a fairly open location, but it is surrounded by grass instead of parking. People were parked illegally all over the place which caused lanes to be blocked and jams in every isle. I hope they fix that soon. Other then that this theater is awesome. read more

This is a very nice facility! It's one of the updated Cinema Cafes with the cool and comfy reclining seats. All of the staff was really friendly, greeting my daughter and me and asking "How are you this afternoon!" (Seemed very genuine...this was even before stepping in our theater). Once we were seated, we were greeted by our server and had our orders taken within a few minutes. The food was also served fresh and promptly! I had the fish and chips and it was excellent! Fries and fish were fried to perfection and they were served with a little tasty cup of coleslaw. Along with ketchup and tarter sauce, vinegar was served as a condiment. My little diva had chicken tenders. They seemed to be battered and fried fresh and were also very good! It was quite a large serving for my daughter despite the fact that she can eat like a grown man at times! Lol. The tenders were very large, so she did have some left over to take home. I had to press our service button twice and our server was in front of us within a few minutes both times. From the lobby and the theater to the restroom, this facility is well kept! I drove almost 30 minute out of my way to come here, and I'm glad I did! I'll gladly do it again! read more

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE , i have gone to this location 3 separate times and all have ended with irritation and disgust. I'm not sure if management has a soft spot for what seems to be only the lowest level of incompetence but it seems to be the average. Seeing such movies as "The Jungle Book," "Keanu," and now today "Alice in Wonderland" every single time the waitress as well as kitchen staff have managed to mess up my order as well as my girlfriends order and have done less than minimal to fix it. I guess the consistent "sorry" written upon my check at the near end of the movie is supposed to make me feel better about my lack of service. DO NOT GO HERE, IT'S A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. This movie theater is spectacular!!! Firstly, the movie tickets themselves are really cheap compared to other theaters! The theater is nice, but only the seats towards the front of the room, towards the screen, are able to recline. I was initially worried that those seats would be too close, and that my neck would hurt trying to look up at the screen, but this was not that case! Ordering food here is not the same as other theaters. There's a red button that you press on the seat, and a waiter comes to you to take your order! They then bring the food to you. I received my order fairly quickly, even though they were plenty of other orders from other guests. My waiter was super nice and they were careful as to not be in the way of others viewing the movie. This will now be where I see all of my movies! read more

We don't go to the movies often since we have two toddlers. The first visit was not great but it seems they have worked out some kinks and are running smoothly! The recliners are nice and I love that you can have a draft beer during your movie! Lucky to have this place close to home! read more

I have been gone to other Cinema Cafe but not like others. I went to there for Mother's Day and they gave me a free movie ticket for next visit as Mother's Day gift! How nice it is! A wonderful option for watching your desired flicks. This theatre boasts comfortable reclining seats as well as an array of food choices to snack on while watching your movie of choice. While I believe the food is a tad overpriced for it's quality, it is nice to have the option. While the occasional waiter may walk past you during a film depending on your seating, you should remain undisturbed for the most part. Overall it's my go-to option for watching movies with the squad, not only because of it's location, but because of the comfortable seating and kind array of employees. read more

Went to a matinee with a friend. There were plenty of seats. I was very impressed with the theater... especially the recliners! Service was fast, friendly and accurate. This is my new favorite theater in the area!! It is almost like the cinebistro in Hampton but with the familiarity of the cinema cafe menu. Upon entering I was very impressed with the displays. I loved being able to choose my own seats! Awesome. This way I wasn't stuck at the front of the theater! The food was cinema cafe quality which is good for a theater and a great price. I didn't not care for the popcorn and here's why. It wasn't fresh. All of the food at the cinema cafe was made to order Except my popcorn which is a movie theater staple!! I was disappointed but it didn't take away from the experience I just wasn't impressed. The biggest most awesome aspect of this theater was the chairs! They were awesome. Comfortable almost too comfortable because I almost fell asleep. I definitely would recommend this theater. It's worth going out of your way and you should try it at least once. My brother told me to check out the new Edinburgh location, but I was skeptical after reading some of the Yelp reviews about the service. My daughter and I went to a 6:15 Friday night opening weekend showing of 10 Cloverfield Lane. Based on other reviewers' comments, we did arrive early (5:45). As we pulled into the parking lot, the building was very impressive with plenty of parking. Inside the lobby there was a line for tickets about 10-12 people deep, but we purchased ours online so we were able to grab our tickets from the auto kiosk and breeze right in. Online ticket purchases reserve your seats so if you have a group or know you won't get there early, this is a must, otherwise you're stuck with whatever seats are left. There is a nice dining/bar area in the lobby along with a set of restrooms. To the left are theaters 1-3 and 4-9 are on the right (along with another set of restrooms). The movie screen size is pretty large, but not extraordinary. Seating: the first 3 rows and 4th (handicap accessible row) are floor level. You will have to look up to watch the screen. All of the rest are elevated between each row (like stadium seating). Each seat has an electric reclining back and footrest EXCEPT the very back row, which has no foot rest and is a manual reclining back. I tried it just to see how it works and it seems likes it is very hard to get the seat to stay back. It is also a rocker-type. Lots of room in front of seats for walking, even with recliners extended. Each seat has a side cup holder and a front swivel tray that stays in place very well with a thin lip on the back so your food doesn't fall on the floor. The trays seem like they would be big enough until you order the pizza combo (pizza, popcorn, pitcher of soda) and an appetizer. Then you quickly run out of room, and the tall pizza stand can block your line of vision. Service: I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the service. There seemed to be plenty of wait staff and they all were hustling. Our particular waitress came over about 3-5 minutes after we were seated and explained the ordering process to us (although we already knew it). We weren't sure quite yet so she told us to push the button on the front of the chair when we were ready. After we decided and pushed the button, she came over within 2 minutes to take our order. The popcorn was brought out first (as my 17-yo daughter requested) after about 5 minutes. The rest of our food came before the movie started. So from order to delivery, total of about 15-ish minutes. She checked on us very quietly several times through the movie, removing trash as needed. She gave us the check about 20 minutes before the movie ended, which is not the best time for distractions since that's almost always the most intense part. It is almost too dark to read your check so they really should either make the print bolder or in a larger font. Food: As I mentioned, we had the pizza combo and a basket of fries. Everything was served hot. The fries were good while the pizza was just average. I really enjoyed the popcorn, very buttery but not overly so. Overall, I enjoyed the theater, it was very clean. I'm not sure if I would go see one of my much anticipated movies (Batman v. Superman, Captain America, Suicide Squad) here simply because of the distraction of people walking around delivering food and/or drinks at various times. It also seems like patrons felt a little more free to have conversations. While not very loud, there was a lot of murmuring going on. This would be a great place to meet at the bar with friends, get dinner and watch a rom-com or comedy. read more

Management!!! Listen up!! This is a nice theater, but the service is crap! We, the people, need you to get it together man. Going to this theater is such a double edged sword. The pros: - It's a relatively brand new theater with a great location. - It's always clean, outside and in. - Tickets are inexpensive. Wednesday night is only like $4 - If you paid online, you can swipe your credit card at one of the automated screens at the entrance instead of waiting in line. - Your seats are reserved, so there's never any rush to the theater to get good seats. - The chairs can recline/rock depending on which theater and where you sit. - The food is actually decent. The chicken tenders are my jam! The cons: THE SERVICE SUCKS!!!....ALL THE TIME!! My friends and I have been here at least once a week for the past few months, and I'd say 95% of the time, something goes wrong by the time we leave. The most common thing is that the food runners have no idea where they are going with orders. You will most likely get brought something you didnt order, or your check will be wrong. Occasionally, the servers will disappear until they bring you the check, yes...even if you press the service request light on your chair. So don't expect to get refills on drinks. It's like the staff has no idea how the seats/aisles are arranged, even though the seat numbers are clearly right on the top of each chair. All on separate occasions we've been double charged, gotten someone else's food and/or check, items are on your check that you didnt order. I don't know why, but the waitstaff seems to have a difficult time understanding the concept of separate checks. The most recent visit, the movie actually started 20 minutes before the showtime. So, of course 15 minutes in, they had to start the movie over. I ordered a Diet Coke and got a Dr. Pepper instead. It's always something.... **Management** - Take some time out to huddle up all of your waitstaff and food runners for some mandatory training, or even just a refresher. Take them inside each theater, and make sure they are aware how seating arrangements work. Do some practice runs on order accuracy and delivery of food. I'm hoping this place doesn't get a bad rep soon. The location is awesome, and I'd hate to have to go all the way out to Kemps River again. read more

Been here several times, each time something goes wrong. Was here for soft opening star wars food was awful, previews didn't work, service is always slow. Some seats just rock some don't recline the map used to pick out your seat is back words and they don't tell you so your pick seats way to close. Most top rows don't recline but you pay the same price. Food is decent at other cinema cafe but here the philly made my wife sick pizza was soggy, popcorn with so much butter it's wet. Normally, we have a great experience with Cinema Cafe in the past. Not today, the chairs are awesome. The service was not good. My family did not get their waters. The order of barbecue sandwich did not happen because they ran out and did not tell us till half of the movie was over. My wife did not want to have anything. Lastly, I got my dessert before I event got my meal. Not a good day for Cinema Cafe. I would not go back to bring my family or have dinner there. Great place and great environment. Stay away from the seats at the front row of the screen. Difficult to watch the movie and eat anything to enjoy the experience. read more

Quick Review! (sort of) Intro : I grew up in VA Beach and have been to the Cinema Cafe Pembroke quite a bit. This one blows it out of the water. The Good : Compared to other Cinema Cafes the screens and auditoriums that house them are huge! The seating is awesome. On the ground level you have full electronically controlled leather recliners! In the upper level the seating is less lavish, but each chair is still cushioned leather with a movable tray table in front of you. In either section there's a good amount of arm rest space between seats so if a stranger is sitting right next to you, you won't feel quite as cramped as you would at a more conventionally seated theater. Cinema Cafes have good food, and this one is no exception. The basic concession offerings (soda, popcorn, candy) are actually slightly cheaper than at say a Regal or AMC theater. The more restaurant style offerings are highly decent, and they have a great beer selection too. The ticket prices are also very good. My wife and I saw a weekday non-matinee showing for $14. The Not So Good : As others have stated, the service is not the quickest. Definitely try to get your food order in ASAP once you take your seats. That said, I really don't think it's as bad as some of the two star reviews are making it out to be. Although, I find that I complain less about this sort thing than a lot of people, so take my opinion for what you will. I'm still giving this place 4 stars. Overall : This is not only the best Cinema Cafe I've ever been to, but it's also now one of my favorite movie theaters in general! I personally think it's on par with (or better!) than Paragon in Newport News Town Center. Yeah, the service needs some work, but if you can look past that, and enjoy all the other great amenities this place has to offer, you'll have a great time. read more

Aside from the weird tasting nacho cheese dip and slow/noisy reclining chairs, it's a great place to watch movies and have a great meal at the same time. We went on Friday the 8th. I gave it two stars only because it's new and the recliner seating is awesome. Our food experience was horrible. We got there 30 minutes before the movie and it took over an hour to get our food. In the meantime servers kept coming to us with appetizers that we did not order (5 times). I should have taken them, at least we could have eaten earlier. A lady sitting next to us had to send her tacos back and she didn't get them returned to her until the movie was over! VERY poor service, but they had a lot of cleanup people. Maybe they should have made some of them servers?!!? read more

The reclining seats are very comfy. My food is always good. That deal with a large 1 topping, large popcorn, and a pitcher of beer is usually the go-to for my boyfriend and I. The pizza is extremely good for a movie theater. All the servers I've had have been great. Very polite. First off, the place is enormous and a nice theatre, however, everything else is well subpar. I took a family of 5 and literally sank $139.00. The positives: staff was nice; screen was nice; chairs were nice, however, mine didn't work. You think they would make sure every seat functioned before letting people in. The negatives: the food was pretty bad; stale bread, nacho platter tasted like month old stale corn chips with just a bunch of shredded cheese on top with some olives; worst nacho platter ever. I have been to the Kempsriver location and their food is great so I don't know what happened to Edinburgh. They also charge tax on movies. I have never been charged tax on a movie. The say $8.50 but charge .85 cents tax per ticket. This definitely was my last visit to this location. Been there done that, So disappointed. read more

This was actually my second visit to this location. Our first visit was not so good considering we were never served. I was not aware that there is a red button in the front of the seats to ask for a server, by the way. The only reason I did not review was because after I emailed about my poor experience the cooperate and local management reached out to me immediately to offer an apology. They were so quick to respond and sounded so sincere that I decided to give them another chance, I am so glad that we did! I have seen others complain about parking so I don't know if it was out of shear luck or not but we were able to park right out front of the theater both times. The attendants and ushers were polite and efficient getting us in and seated in no time at all! Our server was collecting our drink orders within minutes of us getting to our seats. My daughter, who is an extremely picky eater, personalized her order; our server never missed a beat and had the order perfect when our food arrived shortly after. There are plenty of things to choose from on the menu as well. I would recommend sharing an appetizer platter. The thing is big enough for two people to share and fill up on while getting a taste of many different items on the menu. The seats are super comfortable! I have been to other theaters with recliners, but these are definitely superior to the others. We reserved the last row of seating but still had enough room to fully recline the chairs if we chose to do so. One last thing.... This theater is the first one I have been to that I have not completely frozen my tuchus off! It was still on the chilly side but they, thankfully, did not have the temperature set to artic air. read more
