My friend and I went to Cineprov a few months ago. We were Cineprov virgins. It's touted as being like a live, improv version of Mystery Science Theater 3000, so I had to see it. Plus they were showing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I love me some Buffy. Thank goddess I had my GPS, because I felt like I wasn't hip enough to know where the place was. The GPS insisted that it was there, on the left of 14th St. but all I saw were dark, unmarked buildings with no cars in front and no foreseeable places to park. Being a little afraid, My friend and I parked near where the GPS lady kept angrily insisting we navigate back to (recalculating!!!) and parked. It's a BYOB joint so I stashed my bottle of wine in my bag and we eyed the old 2 story building doubtfully. We saw a couple other people wafting in, so we hiked up our big girl panties and moseyed on over. Upon entering the main room, we found it full of people. Where the hell did they come from? Apparently a parking lot in back. The cool kids knew this. Signs would have been nice, but I guess if you have to ask... Anyway, we paid our admittance and got a card that gets stamped each time you come in and after a certain number of times you get in free. Pretty cool. We walked up the steep stairs into the screening room. Not that big. The riffers sit at a big table in the back, and the movie is projected from there onto a smallish screen at the front of the room. There is no food to buy- at all, so you should come with food or after you eat. Basically bring anything you would want to consume because they don't mind. The riffing was pretty damn funny, although initially hard to hear. It's not really their faults, it's just the nature of the beast. You get used to it, though. Overall, it's definitely a cool Friday night excursion, and something different to do, especially for only 10 bucks. I'd recommend going with a group to get the full effect. The audience adds a lot with their own commentary. Maybe now I won't have to have my annual MST3K marathon at my house... no, I still will. read more

Cineprov - a movie clap with the words making fun of movies so you don't have to - Comedy Clubs Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

This place can be a bit hard to find, unless you know exactly what building to go into. So, keep a sharp eye. It's located within a church around back. Upon entering, you'll notice a rather dim waiting area where they will have a nice hostess waiting to take your tickets or payment upon entering. She'll let you know of the wide bar downstairs which will have a selection of good drink to have before the show. Upstairs is the showroom after two small flights of stairs that are rather narrow, so there will be a bit of a climb. We were entertained by the bar tender downstairs and the great music while waiting and my friend and I shared a couple of drinks for the show. There is art on the wall that is very nice to look at and enjoy. The air is a bit smokey, but this is the closest thing to something that I didn't like about the place. Before the show, they have a comedian. I'm not sure if they will have the same guy before the show every time, but ours was pretty funny with a crude but ''Everyday Joe in Atlanta'' kind of humor going. We sure enjoyed his act, however. The guys in the back during the show were pretty witty. I'd have to say that most of their remarks were pretty clever for the most part. It's not quite there with MST (Mystery Science Theater) wit, but still pretty amusing. It's live, anyway and I find it amusing and just great for the time spent into the hobby and entertainment method, nonetheless. Not everyone would be willing to dedicate their time to such a task. I'd personally say that I would share the fact that I've been there and found it entertaining to friends and recommend it to certain company, although the humor and the skits may not be quite for everyone. For those that do appreciate the ''Edgy and Raw'' sort of humor, I would certainly recommend it for those wanting to do something different for a pretty fair price. read more

Cineprov! is Mystery Science Theater 3000, improvised , without robots, right here in Atlanta. Who knew? It is the funniest comedy show I have ever seen. I enjoyed the original on TV but the cast makes this show AWESOME! 2 of the players are married and often spar with one another, that is hilarious! I think they really like each other, though. The other guy, who created Cineprov! , has got a twisted sense of humor as well, and has a gift for one-liners. When the 2 guys made jokes about women that scream sexual harassment, you cannot help but laugh. These people are truly funny! I was shocked they are not full time actors. Yes, they are that good. Makes me want to Yelp! My first show was a really bad movie called " Don't Look in the Basement" from the 1970s, before I was born. Cineprov! called it " Big Brother-for crazy people". It was about a serial killer in a group home for mental patients. Not a funny topic, but the laughs did not stop coming, from sex jokes to sing-alongs. Cineprov! will mock any genre out there, even Elvis Presley's movies and Christmas specials. The website has a schedule out a couple months in advance, great for planners. I have been back several times, it just gets better, like seeing good friends. Missed Buffy..but hoping to get there for 90210. Relapse Theater is a cool place to hang out, it's a young, hip crowd. They have a very funny improv show too, it's always packed. The theater is easy to find if you know the area, but take the map on Cineprov.com to be sure. We went Friday, 1-19-2018 and saw Flesh Gordon. Before the movie started, they had a few 1940/1950 era school films on how to use the bank, and how to prevent Johnny from spreading his cold, etc. They reminded me of the cheesy Army training films we were forced to watch in the early 80's! These, along with the crowd's comments, we're hilarious! The shorts were a blast, a great appetizer for the movie to come. We haven't laughed so hard in a long time! It really was a lot of fun! Brought back memories of yelling at the Rocky Horror Picture Show; which I might add, was at midnight after the Cineprov!! (They even gave out free tickets to watch Rocky Horror!) On a scale of 1-10, I rate this experience at a high 30+!! We will DEFINITELY be back!! It was great fun, and refreshing and something new! How often do you talk at your tv, saying funny stuff during an old movie you have seen?? Here, you can do it with the crowd and your hosts, who lead you through the movie. I can't say enough. If you are even remotely interested, GO SEE ONE!!! You won't be disappointed! read more

I'm a big fan of Cineprov. Used to rock Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll trivia at Johnny's with Curtis and he invited me once, and I tried it. I've been bringing new people with me ever since and no one has ever been disappointed. My game plan used to involve a trip to the liquor store (*or the gas station across the street for 40s), but in the new space they have a cocktail service and it is quick and easy. Maybe too easy. On our last visit we had to knock quite a few back to endure "Showgirls"... oh, the ice cubes...not that! I always eat at Antico before Cineprov- BYOB and nearby. Then shoot over, find a seat, and prepare to laugh. The peeps at Cineprov work damn hard to entertain and I am usually laughing the entire show. The movies are painful. Really painful. The show is awesome. This is one of those off-the-beaten path things to do in ATL that you might never think of, but that you will undoubtedly love. I recommend imbibing, and I think it all goes smoother when you've already seen the flick and can just enjoy the improv instead of trying to figure out what's going on. Fun, off-beat date night. Having just recently discovered Cineprov! I am excited to say that it is an event that I plan to frequent. Playing all the classics such as, Back to the Future, Showgirls, Jurassic Park, Cineprov! gives the audience an opportunity to join in with the bashing; however, I often leave the show wishing that one guy in the back row would just SHUT UP. That being said, the audience are typically laid back and receptive to this wacky fun. The only thing that could make this show better would be a pre-show game (I'm thinking along the lines of what goes on before a movie in a movie theatre. Character trivia, maybe even something about other Relapse shows? Just a thought....) to warm the audience up to the laughlatiry of snarky remarks throughout the feature presentation. Also, because the mic'd performers are in the back, it gives the audience a more invited feel to join in revelry, so if they ever plan on having the audience less participatory, I would suggest that they position themselves in the very front... (less inviting, also makes us the spectators of their experience of watching and remarking on the movie.) All in all, Relapse Theatre is one of my favorite improv venues EVER, and Cineprov! is one of my favorite shows that they offer. Oh, Did you know that if you mention Yelp you get a FREE BAG OF POPCORN???? Do you seriously need any more convincing than THAT?? read more

I've been binging on MST3K as of late, upon hearing the show is coming back (yay!) and I forgot how funny the show was. I have friends who rave about the live Rifftrax performances and I wondered if the MST experience could effectively translate to a live environment. Well, I can wonder no more, as Cineprov proved, that, yes, it definitely works. I love the Plaza Theater and it's a great venue for this kind of show. The riffers were great and they had great source material, the 1976 TV movie "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble." It was a fun night (lots of laughs) and I will definitely be back. read more

Take a look at the positive reviews on here--it's pretty obvious that they're fake accounts written with about the same level of originality, authenticity, and creativity with which their jokes are written. The jokes during the performance are obviously scripted; the movie volume is turned down so low you can't hear the movie, and yet they'll know to make fun of a sound 1 second before it begins. And you know, hey, that's all good--script your comedy (even if it's advertised as unscripted). But at least make the jokes funny then, right? No, this is just "I'm listing stereotypes, that's funny, right?" sort of comedy. Hey, just look at the review they left for themselves: "When the 2 guys made jokes about women that scream sexual harassment, you cannot help but laugh." Whether you're offended or not, if that's really their comedy philosophy, you can't expect too much, and it pretty much sums up all of their jokes: racism, homophobia, sexism--it's just lazy. Just don't go. Seriously, there's a lot of talent in Atlanta's improv scene. You won't find it here. read more

My wife and I love Cineprov! The riffers make otherwise unbearable movies fun, form a personal bond with the audience, and this time donated all profits to a good cause by sponsoring an MS walk. They have now riffed all five of the Twilight series movies. I consider those movies to be the Mount Everest for comedians. If one can make these dull movies fun, anything is possible. read more

As good as it gets!! Myself and 3 friends went to see Cineprov mock the "Revenge of the Sith" which was probably the best $10 I've ever spent in my life! No one was disappointed as we left the theater with sides hurting from 2 1/2 hours of non-stop laughter! I knew we were in for a "professional" experience (if there can be such thing as a professional movie-mocker!) when in the very beginning of the movie during a spaceship battle one of the pilots was blown out of his ship - one of the commentators ad-libbing for the pilot said "at least I'm out of this movie"! We were in for a rollicking good time as they proceeded to RIP STAR WARS TO SHREDS!! George Lucas would have felt three-inches tall in the presence of these geniuses! These guys have an observant eye, a quick wit and left no totem sacred! In style of MST3K but funnier (and definitely not a show for the kiddies) - they turned another disappointing Star Wars sequel into an absolute riot of a good time. Now at the Plaza Theater, you can booze up at the righteous room before and heckle from the wings while Cinprov improvs on some of the worst movies in history. Went to Cineprov for the first time and saw Back to the Future. I had so much fun, and it was a great way to spend an evening with friends. I can't believe I never knew this place existed. Thanks to Living Social for introducing me to Cineprov and for the discounted tickets. The only things that would improve this experience is air conditioning and comfortable seating.
