I love Cinnaholic, easily one of my favorite places to get a vegan cinnamon roll from. It hits every time! Their new location on Hearst Ave is cute it's located inside a small food court.

Super friendly owner, and helped me decide on what I wanted. Food itself was smackin. Tucked away in a cute corner, with nice indoor seating.

Not that there was anything wrong with that as they make solid Indian food there (review: https://bit.ly/3ipWnWB). But does that make them experts at lasagna? Not really as I ordered the $16.95 Mushroom Lover Mac Vegan presuming it would be lasagna. and what arrived was nothing Italiano but more a baked macaroni (photo: https://bit.ly/3GVjbqy). Not that there was anything wrong with that except when your mouth is ready for lasagna, you don't really want to digest mac n' cheese. I could've bought something cheaper at Safeway, but at least it was filling. What did help, however, was the $5.96 Vegan Fudge Brownie which did bring me unequivocal joy and a buttload of calories (photo: https://bit.ly/3ix0IXS). Speaking of which, I should just get off my butt and bake my own lasagna. Where I found room for improvement was the other. The salads were expensive and not quite worthy. The Caesar was pretty disappointing, and I love me a Caesar salad. It didn't have enough dressing, resulting in a dry and flavorless salad. The gelato was delicious, but also an extremely small scoop for $7. The place is cute. It has some outdoor seating but the star is the downstairs area. We were a bigger party, and were able to snag a last minute reservation for 8 people in the much more casual upstairs space. The downstairs is smaller, but very mid-century modern classy with a great wooden bar, perfect for date night. Back to the pizza: It's really good. The pepperoni is delicious. We also went with a speciality pie with cured meats, arugula and hot honey and it was truly a great pizza. They offer a variety of crusts - NY style, Detroit, Sicilian and Grandma. I only tried NY style and it was so good but the others look decadently good. Prices are similar to other pizza spots, so you're paying $28-35ish for a large. They do have small available, as well. Overall, a really great downtown Berkeley spot. Great pizza, great for families, and while space is somewhat limited, it's still great for groups.

Sicilian Ray J ($38) - subbed pepperoni for olives on 1/2. It's tasty! The crust is airy, bread-like, a bit crispy on the bottom.

We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.

One of our coworkers recommended Gather, a large, farm-to-table restaurant, so five of us ventured here for a business dinner. The food and service were definitely 5 stars. Great laid back vibe. We came on a Tuesday night and yet the restaurant eventually got busier through the night. My favorite dishes were: Yellowtail Sashimi and Corn Riblets are both great appetizers and full of flavor. We should have double ordered to split among five. The half roasted chicken had crispy skin and was fairly well seasoned and moist. I don't indulge in desserts as much these days but if split a few desserts among five people you get 1/5 the calories, LOL! I recommend the warm bread pudding, pecan sundae, and salted chocolate chip cookies. In case street parking is difficult (it often is in Berkeley!), the restaurant is located right next to Oxford Garage which has a low flat fee for weeknights.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.
