This is a lovely restaurant that was close to our Airbnb. It was very clean, with an elegant ambiance. We got our food to go right when the were closing (2:30) to transition to dinner. We ordered the tandoori chicken with vegetables and shrimp korma with garlic naan. The food was delicious, we had enough for two meals each. The korma was particularly delightful. Dinner for 2 was around $60. That's a bit pricey in my book, but I'd eat here again. It was worth it, especially considering we had leftovers. I was apprehensive about trying Cinnamon Kitchen, since this area has two more 'bougie' type of Indian restaurants. But, we were quite impressed. I would say that the dishes were at least as good as any we have gotten at some of our favorite spots out of town. Service was very polite and fast for take-out. The price point isn't cheap or expensive, compared to the local competitors, but two of us are getting two meals out of what we ordered. I would recommend you call your order in, rather than use the DoorDash system. The system does not allow for tipping for pick-up orders. I always leave a little for take-out. You can't help but be reminded how companies like DoorDash and Uber take advantage of their partners. If I had any tips for the restaurant...get rid of the plastic take-out bowls and just use those metal take-outs you have for the rice. In the days when more and more of us are concerned about our microplastic intake; putting hot food in the plastic bowls is off-putting. At least to my wife. read more

Was introduced to this locally owned restaurant by my friend who lives in the area and raved about their delicious food. As someone fairly new to Indian Cuisine I have been trying many different places in all the areas I'm visiting to get an idea of the flavors and differences in dishes. Overall: Pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive staff. Delicious and flavorful dishes. Moderately priced with plentiful portions. Good location near the Publix on Sweeten Creek. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Take out is clearly a popular local dinner option. The server was pleasant and very informative as to the types of dishes we were interested in trying. His suggestion to me of the Korma, after I described one particular dish I'd had recently elsewhere, was spot on for the flavors I was craving. The Lamb Korma was mildly hot and creamy. The curry and spices were perfectly balanced and blended with a cream (most probably yogurt) creating a richly yellow, flavorful sauce that the lamb was marinated in. The lamb was well cooked and the tender chunks fell apart easily. The dish was presented along with a generous portion of jasmine rice and a small side of mixed veggies (almost like a salad, mostly lettuce and carrots) all perfect for dipping into the amazing curry sauce. My friend got the Chicken Tikka Masala which also came with the side of rice and veggies. The chicken was tender. The tomato based sauce was also mildly hot and well seasoned. We also each ordered a side of the Garlic Naan. Crispy on the outside, chewy through the center when pulled apart, and generously dusted with garlic and herbs, the naan was the perfect accompaniment to the meal. You definitely need some to sop up all the delicious sauce. Let none of the sauce go to waste! Overall, a very satisfying meal for a decent price and portion. read more

This was my first time visiting Asheville. I came for a work trip. I came to Cinnamon Kitchen for lunch today. They were not very busy, so it made coming in for lunch super convenient. I ordered the butter chicken. I've only had Indian food as a convenience meal never in a seat down restaurant. The waiter was super nice and not rude when I said I didn't want it too spicy. It came out super fast. And it was such a great value for what I paid. I probably could have taken some back to work, but I was afraid that if I didn't eat and enjoy than I wouldn't have eaten later. A mere shadow of it's former glory. We had it delivered and we're usually forgiving on that account, but what we received was insulting at best. We ordered Tandoori Salmon and Tandoori Chicken (dark meat) and Garlic Naan. Both proteins were horribly overcooked and beyond dry. At least the dog will be happy. The vegetable accompaniment: limp and anemic broccoli; tons of it and nothing else. The Naan was so dry and tough, it was inedible. The sauce was a weird orange, sweet mess that is nothing like the addictive sauce we have always loved. What was good? The rice was fine. Many times dining in, I have noted that the rice was leftover and dry. Not this time. The mint chutney was as good as always and the Papadum (not made in house) was as good as usual. But for $65??!! Never again. We bid a sad farewell to a former local legend. If they aren't showing up, neither are we!! read more

You know it's good when you freeze the last bit to take home with you to another state I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala and took home to share with my son, the remains of the day. However, he was denied the pleasure of tasting this as I couldn't stop eating it. I'm now freezing the small remains so I can do my sad best to replicate it again since I live in San a diego My daughter is lucky enough to live there and get this delivered. This place serves absolutely delicious vegetarian curries. Being vegetarians, we have tried their vegetarian menu on different days for dinner and their curries stood out everytime. Me and my wife have tried their chole, daal makhani, Matar paneer and malai kofta with rice, Aloo paratha and methi paratha. Each one of those items were extremely satisfying and delicious. I highly recommend this place for people who want to try roti-sabzi or bread and curry. P.S. I really wish they start offering their mango masala curry with paneer as well. read more

After reading reviews on Yelp about Cinnamon Kitchen, I decided I needed to try it out asap considering that Indian Food is my favorite. Friday after work seemed like the perfect time because I knew it wouldn't be too busy yet. And bummer because honestly, this was my least favorite Indian Food I've had in Asheville. The whole experience was pretty disappointing. That being said, the food didn't suck, hence the 3 stars. For starters, when I arrived at almost exactly 5 pm, there were two other tables already sat and when I walked through the door, the gentlemen working straight up seemed annoyed that I was there. It did not seem warm or welcoming at all. No greeting or friendliness whatsoever. This mostly continued throughout the dining experience other than a nice comment on a tattoo. Also, the booth I sat in was very, very uncomfortable. If I ever go again, I will be sure to not sit in a booth. I was wiggling around the whole time trying to find a position that was comfy. That being said, I love the high back booth seats so that your table feels totally private. I couldn't see over to the next booth and the conversations from the nearby tables were muffled. I appreciate that. Before my meal came, I was treated to an order of papadam which was nice. The papadam was a bit spicy and had a kick to it and I didn't love the green sauce they served it with. I wish it came with a tamarind sauce instead or also. As for the main course, I ordered the Paneer Masala and Garlic Naan. The Garlic Naan came out to the table very hot and fresh. I could barely touch it at first which was awesome. It was covered in garlic and chopped parsley (I think) and oh my goodness, this may have been my favorite Naan I have ever had. It was so, so, so delicious. I really loved it. They serve it as a whole circular piece just cut in half and all of the spices are super fresh. I loved the Naan! Next time I go back I want to try one of the stuffed Naans. The Paneer Masala was....OK. I really enjoyed the sauce. It was sweet and creamy and the perfect consistency but the paneer was weird, it was definitely not the type of paneer I usually like. It was squeeky when I chewed it and had a weird texture and flavor. I ended up taking leftovers home but soaked up the sauce and threw away the paneer. Overall, this was a really mediocre experience. The best dinner we have had in a while! The menu was full of vegetarian options and it was so hard to pick because everything sounded so good. We started with some veggie samosas - filled with chickpea and peas it was a bit spicy but warmed the mouth perfect. Then we got the very refreshing Mango Lassi. I ordered the Lamb Chops, served on fresh veggies with rice and the most flavourful masala I've ever tasted. My S/O ordered Lamb mango wala - saying it was so filling and delicious he could have eaten it three more times. The naan was crispy and perfect for dipping. We've been going to Cinnamon Kitchen for about eight years . . . we don't live closeby maybe 30-40 minutes away. There are plenty of great restaurants near us, however, we enjoy great Indian food. The other night we chose to go there for a special "anniversary" dinner. We arrived shortly after 5. The staff were ringing up a take-out order, so seeing that we were the only diners in the restaurant, we chose a table. I ordered a glass of wine, my husband a soda. I was sort of surprised that they didn't bring out (what I remembered to be) complementary papadums. So, in ordering, I asked for those and the mango chutney. When my husband's dinner came out, mine was not with it. I would estimate that I waited at least three minutes for mine to be served. The food was great--as we had remembered--but it took quite a while into our dinners before anyone stopped by to ask us about our meals. Despite everything I've shared, WHAT BRINGS MY USUAL STAR RATING OF 5 DOWN TO 2 IS THIS: I seriously got the feeling that their take-out business (which, understandably, they were dependent on during the pandemic) was still their priority. I felt that we were considered as an afterthought. Before we will return, Cinnamon Kitchen has to curtain off or place a border between the take-out traffic (with staff serving them and ringing up orders) and the restaurant. A group from an organization to which I belong had dinner this week at Cinnamon Kitchen, and I believe nearly all of us enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. Unlike so many restaurants in Asheville, the noise level here wasn't so high that you couldn't carry on a conversation, and that was true even though the restaurant, near Five Guys in Gerber Village, was quite busy for a mid-week night. While not a fancy spot, the decor is pleasant, with saffron colored walls and dark wood accents. I had the tandoori chicken tikka ($16.95) with a side order of regular naan (2.95), with a 22 oz. Flying Horse lager ($6.95), brewed in India. The chicken was a large portion, with what appeared to be most or perhaps all of a sliced chicken breast, along with many vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, onion, green peppers), plus a shared bowl of basamit rice. I took a good part of my entrée home. The naan was some of the best I've ever had, and the garlic naan, which others had, looked great, too. One doesn't expect too much from Indian beer, but the Flying Horse was ice cold and a good accompaniment to the tandoori chicken. Several people at our table said they really enjoyed their meals, including lamb vendallu, lamb chops, butter chicken and tandoori murg. The only complaint I heard was that it took a while for the entrées to come out, but we were a group of nine, and it requires some effort to get everything done at once. Several people did say they should have chosen "hot" rather than "medium" heat, as the dishes were not highly spiced. I ordered my tandoori chicken medium and also wishes I had ordered it hotter. All the staff I saw were Indian and were efficient and helpful. Our waiter gladly (and accurately) did separate checks. With tax and tip, my meal came to about $35, so it wasn't a bargain, but I enjoyed it and will be back. I'm not an expert on either South or North Indian food, but I think Cinnamon Kitchen compares favorably with Mela in downtown Asheville. read more

Cinnamon kitchen does a better job than ever of delivering pretty dang good Indian grub with some easily corrected issues. The malai kofta--outstanding! The palak paneer--excellent! The Mulligatawny soup is probably the best I've had in North America, and I'm a Mulligatawny soup aficionado. The eggplant Bharata was good but really nothing special. Here are the issues. First: Have you ever opened a can of nuts and smelled them and they smelled SUPER STALE? That's how the papad were. This would be a minor issue except -- if you don't order bread, papad are the only thing that you have between you and the chutney or sauces is the papad. SUPER STALE isn't exactly attractive, it's more like attractive to the garbage can. Anybody with any sense of taste or smell would have thrown them out immediately instead of shipping them to a guest. Embarrassing! Second: the eggplant Bharta was merely ok, a bit tasteless and undercooked, which was shocking in the face of the other epic entrees. Even if a guest doesn't want super spicy, this could be fixed with a quick infusion of more cooking and some savory spices and aromatics. In general, this is a do again. I'd avoid the eggplant Bharta, and swiftly exact culinary vengeance (No. Seriously, people, send me a new order. No, really.) if the papad was this stale. Five stars for good stuff, zero for the misses. Three overall. I'll try again! Order with care! read more

I had heard good things about Cinnamon through some friends. I was in the area and dropped in to try it. I was disappointed with the food and the service was a mixed bag. I probably won't be back. Started off with the vegetable samosas as this is one of my favorites. Portions were about right but the flavor was really lacking. This seemed to be the standard with everything that I had. For my main, I had the Lamb Rogan Josh. It had good heat (I got medium) but the flavor really wasn't there. Again really disappointed. From a service standpoint they did a great job making sure that my drink was full. However, there were times especially during the bill process where they disappeared. The food here is very good with really fresh made naan. It was our first time and we had no expectations. The inside has a nice atmosphere, calm and clean. The reason I gave it a three was that the service was the worst I have had in Asheville . Had to ask for coffee and beg for dessert!!! Excellent Indian food. I love Vindalo myself and highly recommend the lamb vindalo. They'll make it as Spivey as you want. I'd say the lamb goes the best with this sauce. If so Icey isn't your thing chicken korma is awesome as well. It's an interesting blend of flavors . It's got cashews and a yogurt cream sauce. I'm pretty sure it's got cinimon as well. The samosas in the appetizer list are great. Crispy in the outside, never soggy. Of course you need Nahn with your dinner. Service is fair to good. Sometimes you don't get someone comfortable with descriptive English... but they try. Ambiance is nice and you could do a romantic dinner here. Much better than Mela downtown and quieter as well. Mela is great too, but this place is far less rushed. read more
