    Shrimp Pad Thai (extra hot)
    Jen D.

Ooooh so good! If you are a foodie then you have probably realized that some of the best food is found at gas stations. This is most certainly true with Pon's. There are 3 or 4 tables but I get takeout. The ladies are very sweet and kind. Hubby likes spicy and he loves the Shrimp Pad Thai , he asks for the most heat and it doesn't interfere with the taste. Hands down, best pineapple fried rice that I have ever had, fresh pineapple and great flavor. Our daughter had the glass noodles and thought that it was amazing. The spring rolls are crispy and flavorful. Definitely our go-to for Thai.

Service was nice, food raised my standards, and the location is very unique. It's hidden inside of a gas station but still fairly welcoming. I'm used to getting Pad Thai at a Soba in Weaverville but I don't think I could settle for that after trying this one + the chicken rolls made a great side with sweet&spicy sauce. It's a small operation but that makes it all the more personal, like mom cooking for you in her kitchen... It's really something to appreciate.

Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall appearance. There are a few tables you can sit out inside and a table or two outside. Carry out is available. Authentic fresh food done right. Green curry was spicy and delicious. Crab cheese rolls were super creamy on the inside. Will be back. Deducted one star for the lack of ambiance. Great dive spot for dope Thai food with reasonable prices.

Had never heard of it nor read a review but I'm always up for an experience without prior judgement. My wife and I decided to sit outside as the weather was cool. The male server who I'm pretty sure was either an owner, partner, or manager as his enthusiasm was intoxicating apologized as he's not had time to blow the pine needles off the patio. It wasn't a problem or negative for us. The menu looked great with plenty of options. I'm not an Asian expert but I simply like great tasting food. I ordered the L-10 Cashew Nut with Shrimp. My wife ordered L16 Spicy Eggplant with tofu. So we sat chatting for a bit when our server returned with two partly filled small cups of what he described as coconut soup. We hadn't ordered anything so this we assumed it was an amuse-bouche. After taking one spoonful we looked at each other and thought, we need to get a full bowl of this. It was one of the most incredible soups I've ever had in my life. And yes, I'm gushing over soup. While I don't know the actual ingredients other than a slice of mushroom and a few slices for green onion, the coconut and lime flavors in this clear broth is something we're still talking about and that was 2 days ago. For those who don't care about soup, the Spicy Eggplant and Cashew Nut were also incredibly delicious but next time we go, we've already decided we will order a full bowl of the Coconut Soup.

So, that's how I chose Thai food to close out the year. Parking. It's on Broadway. Check the signs. Don't get excited like me and pull in only to find it's for loading/unloading or handicapped. I ended up just parking in one of the lots. 3 hour parking for $18.50. I don't know if that's the standard rate or if it was inflated for NYE but after having done a few laps, I just said WTH and pulled right in. It was only a block and a half away. The place wasn't packed but bustling with to go orders. We did arrive later and by the time we left, there were only a few tables occupied. Not being busy, but also being sat where we were - service was great. Attentive as we were always within line of sight of the team and all we needed to do was make eye contact. Not that we needed to other than refills and for me, spicy chili powder/sauce. Food was good. Not spicy - but as my friend would say - nothing is spicy for me. But I wanted the added heat as it was a little chilly out. Good flavors but not explosions like I'm used to. Not that it was bad - maybe it was on the muted side for the demographics? It was a very nice tasty dinner to close out 2025!

Like most places in West Asheville, it's a little on the funky side in terms of ambiance. But that just adds to the authenticity, as I felt like I was in some little beachside cafe or alleyway cafe someplace in Thailand. The staff here are very friendly and efficient, even with the place being packed on a Saturday evening. We skipped appetizers and headed right into entrees, which was a good thing, because the serving sizes here are more than ample (we had leftovers sharing two entrees between two of us, and we actually ate plenty at the restaurant). I like beer with spicy food and their beer selection was pretty limited, but I tried one of their Thai beers and it was very good and went great with our food. We had to try their massaman curry (with chicken), as it's sort of a standard for me, like lasagna in an Italian restaurant. It was served more like a ramen, as the curry sauce was thin-ish (not watery though, just not like some curries). But the sauce was so tasty we did eat some of it with a spoon. It included potatoes, carrots and a few other veggies on top, along with some ground peanuts (which I've never had served on top of massaman curry before -- they were a good complement). It came with a side of white rice (average). We also had the pad see-ew (with chicken). I hate it when the noodles in dishes like this are tough or chewy but the ones here were wonderful -- just the right texture. Again the sauce was amazing, a semi-sweet black soy sauce that had sort of a smoky flavor. A good mix of veggies were tossed in with the noodles and chicken. We ordered both dishes at a spice level of 3 (out of 5). Good spicy, but I might even go with 4 next time, as 3 was not all that spicy. As I noted, there were leftovers and they reheated well. So two meals out of one visit. They have a pretty extensive menu, so we'll definitely be back to try other things. I'd have to say this Thai restaurant was quite a bit different (in a good way) than any other Thai restaurant I've been to (and I've had a lot of Thai food over the years). I don't know if that means it is more authentically Thai whereas other places Americanize their food somewhat, or this particular chef just has her own cooking style of Thai food. Whichever, the seasoning or mixture of spices in the dishes here was excellent.

It was highly regarded before that, and offers to make many of its menu items vegan. I was a tad disappointed that the bar promised some non-alcoholic hop water options but didn't seem to have any in stock, which may relate to the storm as well. This food truck, however, delivered the goods. It is not a speedy process, and when I tried visiting before they sold out of food before the end of the day so I came early this time. They give you a buzzer so you can wander around and order drinks. When my tofu arrived, it was mouthwatering. The amount of rice was quite large, but this was some aromatic rice, and the tofu itself tasted like high quality stuff and was bathed in an herbal, spicy flavor that I imagine is about as close to Thailand as you could get in Asheville. It was a lot of money for a modestly sized disposable bowl of food, but the quality merited a visit. I doubt I could have found myself eating anything more delicious. And yet, their other menu options remained on my mind.

Given the…read morecomplementary relationship with the many craft breweries that don't do food themselves, plus all the local outdoor events for 9 months of the year, there are some truly great food trucks based here. Cassia is definitely one of the top ones. This is some of the best and most original Thai food I've ever had. They are a regular at Cellarest Beer Project in West Asheville. The food is prepared fresh, but the wait is not too long. And if you sit in the right spot, you may be able to enjoy the fragrant scent of Thai food as it is being prepared in their mobile kitchen. We started with the Firecracker sweet potatoes. These amazing little jewels are mashed sweet potatoes wrapped in the same coating as you'd normally have with a spring roll or won ton. They had a wonderful crispy outside with a flavorful sweet potato mash inside. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was excellent, but we also loved dipping these into the golden curry sauce that came with our curry duck. Where do you ever see curry duck BTW? The duck was cooked perfectly and not at all grisly or chewy. The curry sauce was absolutely incredible. Great flavor along with a nice kick. Between eating the duck and jasmine rice with the curry sauce and dipping some of the Firecrackers in it, there was literally not a speck of curry sauce left behind. We also had chicken Laab Gai. The mint leaves in this were really tasty and not overwhelmingly minty. The sticky rice was good. These came with cabbage leaves that you can roll the meat and rice up in to create a sort of Thai taco. This was good, but not at the same level as the duck curry. Maybe a bit more sauce would help. Prices are restaurant level but well worth it given this is restaurant-quality food or better. We paired the food with two fine beers from Cellarest. The Czech-style Moonglade Tmave pivo had great character. The Weald Oktoberfest Marzen lager was also excellent. Both went very well with the Thai food. Apart from maybe the dead of winter, this will be a place we go back to for more great Thai food.

The wrapper was very tender and the shrimp filling was delicious. It tasted very authentic to me. I also loved the Sautéed String Bean as it had the right amount of garlicky sauce. The Lo Mein was made with thinner than usual noodles but still tasted good. I think the Chow Fun tasted a bit off. It kind of tasted a bit sweet and like drunken noodles at some points as opposed to the traditional smoky flavor that the dish has. The rice noodles that were used were also thin as opposed to the usual wider noodles. As for the Spicy Chicken, it tasted solid. I liked the slight crisp before biting into each piece and it was not really spicy. I definitely tasted the cumin (I am not a super big fan of), which is a popular flavor found in Szechuan cuisine. Overall, I think this is a nice spot for some Chinese food, especially being near the mountains which is more isolated. I wish chicken feet were part of their dim sum menu (it is pretty small and there are no rolling carts in case anyone is wondering). I do think some flavors of the food I tasted seem to cater a bit more to the Western taste palate (my parents agree as well), but I enjoyed my time here.
