Ooooh so good! If you are a foodie then you have probably realized that some of the best food is found at gas stations. This is most certainly true with Pon's. There are 3 or 4 tables but I get takeout. The ladies are very sweet and kind. Hubby likes spicy and he loves the Shrimp Pad Thai , he asks for the most heat and it doesn't interfere with the taste. Hands down, best pineapple fried rice that I have ever had, fresh pineapple and great flavor. Our daughter had the glass noodles and thought that it was amazing. Finally got a chance to try Pon's Thai Cuisine. I loved the Pad Thai ($11.95), with its beautiful pastel color and fresh taste (so unlike some of the glopped Pad Thai served elsewhere in Asheville). This version, with its fresh green onions, fresh cilantro and light, thin noodles ,make me realize why I used to love this classic Thai dish. The Chicken Satay with peanut sauce (three small skewers for $7) also was very tasty. The Larb Salad ($9.12) and the Tom Yum soup ($5.95) were, for us, less successful. The sweet and sour soup, as some others have said, seemed too sweet. The Larb was good, but not the best in Asheville. For takeout, I don't mind the gas station ambiance, and this is how Little Bee Thai got its start, but I'd love to sit down in nice small restaurant, sip a Singha and enjoy the meal with table service, like we used to at the late lamented Wanpen. For four dishes (one main, two appetizers, one soup) for take away we paid nearly $40, perhaps a little pricey for a place in an Exxon station. Would I go back? Yes, definitely. But I probably wouldn't make a 30-minute special trek from our home just to get this Thai takeout. read more

I'm used to getting Pad Thai at a Soba in Weaverville but I don't think I could settle for that after trying this one + the chicken rolls made a great side with sweet&spicy sauce. i am very very very picky about my thai food and this place did not disappoint. i got the chicken pineapple fried rice with thai iced tea. my friends got the tom kha soup, tofu panang curry, chicken pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. everything was extremely delicious. the pineapple fried rice was very flavorful and a great combination of sweet and spicy. the thai iced tea was very good but was very sweet, next time i think i would ask for less sweet or more milk instead of sweet tea. my only complaint would be the wait time but with reading the reviews before i was expecting that and it was well worth the wait. the woman who runs this place is so sweet and very good at what she does. though it may take a little while to get your order i would not have it any other way. order ahead and eat at this place! i think most of the other reviews here are missing that this is a mom and pop shop, single employee business. you will have to wait but it is well worth the wait ! read more

This place is the greatest. Off the beaten path and tucked into a gas station's convenience store, it would be easy to miss. I know I did the first time I went there. I frequently get a huge hankering for Thai food and Pon's is the place to go. You do need to plan out your visit in advance because the intersection they are located on is a beast at high traffic times of day. It is well worth it though! I typically call ahead and place my order. I think their prices are the most reasonable in town for Thai food and the selections are great. You can get curries, noodles, rice based dishes with a plethora of proteins to choose from. Most frequently I get a green curry with tofu and it is so filling and I always get a second meal out of it. Occasionally I'll spring for a soup option and the Tofu Soup is my fave. (simple, broth, mushrooms, onions carrots, and broccoli) I always ask for their in house spicy sauce on the side to add a punch to whatever I order. Last night, I satisfied a week long craving for Pad Se Ew noodles as a reward for making it to the end of a long work weekend. They were so good and a huge serving. Thick noodles with egg, broccoli, and carrots. I chose to add chicken to this particular dish and it was amazing. I usually get a spring roll to start because I love that you can just order one! Pon's Thai has consistently been the best Thai in the area since it opened. The food overall has been great and is always hot on pickup. The big issue is I believe they have grown so much in popularity that the service has fallen in quality. They just can't keep up with two people working. Everything is made fresh so I have always ordered and shown up an hour later. No problem. However, the last several times I've waited up to an hour once I got there. So two hours from ordering. This past Friday was a nightmare. Ordered, waited an hour, and went to pick up. There were at least 10 people waiting. Spoke to some people there and they had been waiting 2+ hours after ordering. No employee was communicating with the crowd. Tried to ask about my order but was just told to call the online ordering service. I called and cancelled my order. The food again is generally amazing. However, service and wait times are horrible. They won't/can't communicate with you. I think they have grown so much in popularity that their current location cannot handle it. They definitely need to have more than two people working and need to communicate with customers better. It pains me but I will be on the search for a new Thai place. I found this restaurant thanks to Yelp, which is located inside a gas station in South Asheville. Yes, a gas station. So my criteria for evaluating this restaurant is for the food alone. I phoned and put my order in for a Tofu Pad Thai and was told 20 to 25 minutes. I serendipitously arrived 25 minutes later and noted all tables were taken and there was a line at the counter. There was only one person in the kitchen and cash register so I had to wait a bit for my turn, grabbed my order and inhaled my Pad Thai as soon as I got home. The Pad Thai was that good! I would even say it was comparable to sit-down Thai restaurants that charge much more than the $9 bucks I paid for a generous heaping of noodles and Tofu. What all the hype about? I was passing through town, to visit family in Charlotte. My sister, who had tried it 3 years ago, when she lived in the area told me I had to swing in and try it. I placed my order, while pointing at the menu (that I was handed). I was surprised when the girl said it would be $10.23 for a meal that is listed for $8.50. When I asked about the discrepancy, I was shown a magic menu. It is kept behind the counter with the new prices. The owner told me it was $10.00 because pork went up, and that I should have ordered the beef..!? I was hungry after driving straight through from MN, to visit family in Charlotte, and just wanted something more than a protein bar. When I got my meal, it was wide rice noodles, not rice noodles as stated on the menu. Accompanying the wrong noodle was, frozen broccoli that I watched her pull out of the freezer. The thing that put me over was all the dried basil that she shook out of a container that I'm assuming she bought at Cosco . ( see the photo, that may be why she charged more, it's SO much basil) When I brought it up and asked why there was dried basil, the owner said " there is no more fresh basil today"! I asked about the noodles and she said " they still rice". I asked why I was charged the same price as the product represented on the menu, she got upset and started getting loud. At that point I just threw it in the trash and left. I will heat my own frozen Asian cuisine in the microwave at home before coming here ever again. We have never eaten at a restaurant in a gas station. I was actually a little afraid to try it but the reviews convinced me that it was okay. It isn't the prettiest place to go. The store doesn't look like it is cleaned by a professional and there are spots all over the ceiling where it looks like there are leaks. Dust everywhere. Drink machine doesn't work and it looks like it is for the restaurant. The ladies behind the counter were nice, do not speak English well. I got a chicken coconut curry dish and he got the red curry. That said, we've tried this place twice and it's our new go-to take-out. It's in a gas station, and yes, the service is really slow, but don't let that deter you. Their staff is minimal and they prepare the dishes to order. So far, we've tried: - Spicy noodles. There was nearly a physical altercation over this. It was so. good. - Spring rolls. Fantastic. Not heavy and greasy at all. Duck sauce was in a container and not those ketchup packets. - Pad thai. Delicious. Ordered it spicy and it almost burnt my face off, so I'm guessing the regular order is spicy enough for the average person. - Red curry. Soooo good. Fresh fresh fresh. Real vegetables with bright colors and crisp texture. The sauce was perfect and was a very generous portion. Came with rice. The lunch prices are great for what you get. The wait is consistently over an hour, unless you order with door dash. They prioritize the delivery services over other customers. There are generally only 2 cooks in a small kitchen in the Exxon gas station, and they offer A LOT of choices, so they are always behind. No matter what it says on your app, it will be over an hour to pick up. The food was good, not great. The order was messed up, but we had to wait 1.5 hours for it, so no going back. Each time I asked if I could just cancel the order and leave, they said it was just about ready, so I would wait another 15 minutes, ask again if it was ready, try to cancel... The lady was SO UPSET and screamed "I cooked for you!" But still, another 25 minutes for the whole order to be ready, with half of it hot and half of it cold and some of it correct. It's actually quite bad when you order vegetarian and it has chicken in it.
