This is my absolute favorite place to get Indian food in Asheville, and I've tried them all. I'm somewhat of a paneer masala fanatic. Cinnamon Kitchen hits the spot any time I'm craving Indian food. There aren't many options available in the area but don't let that fool you, these guys know what they're doing. I'd put the waitstaff up against anyone in a hospitality contest. Attentive, friendly, and memorable are a few words I'd use to describe them. Calm inviting dining room, a good place to enjoy a delicious meal and have a conversation. (could do without the TV's blaring though) We always enjoy the rack of lamb. It is so well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Masala sauce is a lovely compliment and is SO good. It is practically like a tomato bisque. You can order it at different heat levels. Another favorite is the Tandoori Mixed Grill. It includes veggies, chicken, lamb and shrimp. The meat is so moist. This is an excellent dish to get a taste of each protein they offer in one dish. It too comes with a side of Masala sauce. I recommend starting with the assorted appetizer, it is delightful and the tamarind dipping sauce is perfect. Full disclosure - I have never been to India. However, I have eaten Indian food in London and many parts of the US. The Cinnamon Kitchen beats them all. One of my favorite items to eat is the pakoras. And when I say favorite, I mean that I could literally eat my weight in them. I once considered putting an order under my pillow so that I could eat them while I sleep (To be clear, I decided against it due to safety and sanitary concerns). Food was gross. Worst Indian place I've ever been, and I've been to a lot. You pay $30 for less than half a pound of rubbery tandoori chicken. A truly paltry amount. it was bland, overcooked, borderline inedible. Then there was unseasoned, over-steamed broccoli all around it that didn't add anything to meal. We woke up on a Saturday morning with a craving for Indian food, and we wanted a buffet because gorging on a Saturday is acceptable human behavior. We normally frequent Mela, and sometimes hit Chai Pani, but to be perfectly honest, I'd rather try to eat a raw onion that has been set on fire than go downtown on a Saturday in late May. We have seen Cinnamon Kitchen numerous times when passing by but had never been inside, so we decided to give it a shot. We arrived around Noon; other than a different family of three dining there, we had the place to ourselves. The restaurant is somewhat small, but nicely decorated and comfortable. We were greeted promptly and seated near the buffet. The service was friendly enough, but we didn't need much since we were helping ourselves. Overall, the food was tasty. The Makhani Dal and Chicken Tikka Masala were highlights, and the Saag and Briyani dishes were pretty good, even if the Briyani wasn't as spicy as other, better editions I've had. The Zucchini Masala dish was lacking, the zucchini was cut too thick and was pretty soggy, which isn't good no matter how solid the sauce causing the sogginess tastes. One thing I will say is that the Jasmine rice was on point. All too often, buffet rice is either a sticky, clumpy mess with the taste profile of moist styrofoam or overcooked bits of tasteless teeth breakers that are reminiscent of childhood days spent chewing gravel. Not that I ever did that, but I know a guy. Their rice was cooked very well. The Naan was very tasty, but a little thin. But still tasty. The service that we did need...clearing plates, refilling waters, bringing the check when it was clear we were finished...was pretty slow, especially considering we were, at that point, the only people in the place. I don't want someone to overdo it when it's slow, but at least try to notice when my glass sits empty for a while. The lunch buffet price was reasonable, the food was very good buffet food, and the staff was friendly even if not attentive. I would say that if you're headed to the south side and want to give it a try, go for it. It's not the best Indian food in town, but it's definitely not bad. Just don't try to go there between 4pm and 7pm on any weekday if you're coming from the north. The asinine lack of competent traffic engineering has resulted in an absurd amount of traffic in that area at that time. Of course, I could say that about most of Asheville, but this isn't my opinion blog and that wouldn't help you decide when to try out Cinnamon Kitchen. read more

This place went into Reza which was a great Greek restaurant so everyone had high expectations and they were better than everyone thought. I had the buffet and it was amazing. They had a lot of options and change around what they have everyday. If you don't like Spicy food don't shy away from it. The food is not heavily spiced but still delicious. The tandoori chicken was definitely my favorite. The chicken was nicely cooked and very flavorful. The service heat was amazing and our waitress was very nice. Almost everything we tried was a fine example of the dish (chili paneer was particularly good). Some things were even surprising, like finding pickle (lime?) in the bhindi achari. The only thing holding me back from a 5-star rating was the veg manchurian, which was one of my least favorite versions of the dish and a significant part of why we came here (seems like an uncommon dish in Asheville for some reason). This is the best Indian food I have had. They definitely are busy with takeout and I've had both. I recently ate in the restaurant with my 11 year old son. I wasn't sure how it would go with him but he actually LOVED his meal. We both had the lamb. I didn't care for the pickles but they seemed to be a traditional Indian side. We didn't like the archar ( completely our fault, ordered not knowing what to expect, just wanted to try it) and they didn't charge us for it! Everything else was excellent!! This is such a basic Indian dish, how do they mess it up? No flavor and super watery, not very creamy. It took 50 min for them to get my takeout order. There were many other folks waiting, and there seemed to be mass confusion. I order from here pretty frequently because I live on the south side, and it's only convenient option for Indian. I also like Chai Pani ( more like street vendor Indian food) Mela (definitely good but over priced) Cinnamon Kitchen offers a nice in between. I used to frequent Cinnamon Kitchen because they would cater to my vegan food preferences and make things on the Fly. Most recently I went on a Friday and it wasn't quite busy yet but it being a Friday they were not going to accommodate my usual request. Slightly disappointed I asked to order the vegetable special anyway... and instead of it coming with three samplings of the entree they could "only do 2 changes". I was quite surprised and delighted about it being delivered to the table with all three of the sides (I originally ordered). To the kitchen staff I say thank you so very much for being so accommodating to us vegans!!! Ps: For spice level if you are sensitive just be careful with the spice level.
