I've been able to hit the buffet for lunch a few times, and I've really enjoyed it. They have a couple of salads, desserts (mango pudding is tasty!), two kinds of rice, pakoras, and 4 veggie, 3 meat dishes and they bring some hot naan to the table. For $10, it's really hard to beat, and everything I sampled was good. We've been for dinner a few times also, and although I think the dinner menu is a little pricey, everything was excellent. The Lamb Biryani was especially good, nice and spicy too! Service has been good on my visits, but if you sit close to the front doors, it can get a little drafty in the winter. read more

I have used cinnamon kitchen many times and always been exceptionally happy with the quality of food. Tonight I ordered using yelp and because it was the first time I did this I went through the process earlier than normal. However Although I started the process at 445 pm. I ordered the meal for 545 pm. When I arrived at 535 pm, the meal was already prepared and had been on a table in the restaurant for approximately half an hour! As you might imagine the food was cold on arrival at home. My fault? Partially, but surely the chef should have read the time the meal was required and followed the timings appropriately. Do I abandon yelp, and order as I normally have? Do I abandon Cinnamon Kitchen for ruining a perfectly good Meal? Do I put this down to one of life's miserable experiences? Most incredible food. Everything was delicious! I had Tandoori Lamb. Exceeded my expectations. The Palak Paneer was so good, great flavors. The Tikka Masala sauce served with the lamb was very good. Not too spicy. Even the sauces served with the Papad were superb. The service wasn't stellar, but when you have great food it doesn't matter quite so much. Groupon has a deal that you should try. The food is fantastic. Delicious! Service is not great. The ambiance is lacking. We've talked about going back but, last time, we were in a cramped booth in the back beside a bar being used to store stacks of to-go boxes and other unattractive items. The bar itself was more of a shelf on the other side of the narrow aisle. Something behind the counter beside us kept beeping. It took a while for the server to come back when we needed more to drink, likely because you couldn't see us back in the corner behind their overflow storage. We were given the bill before we finished eating. I've dined here more than once and have had to make a habit of flagging a server down or even leaving my seat to get someone's attention. I would suggest using one of their many to-go boxes so you can eat in a more pleasant environment while, hopefully, giving the next person who is seated in one of their back booths a slightly better view. read more

My wife and I went to the Cinnamon Kitchen last night January 12th 2013. We were promptly seated and our waiter was at our table with a couple of minutes or so. We had two appetizers, the Chicken65 and the Kachumber Salad both of which arrived within 5-7 minutes of ordering them and both very good. I really like the cilantro with lime in the Kachumber Salad. We then ordered our main courses...I ordered the Andhra Chicken Curry and my wife ordered the Bangah Bhar (Vegan) plus, since Naan Bread does not come with the meals, we ordered Garlic Naan and plain Naan bread. Our entrees arrived within 7 to 10 minutes and both were piping hot upon arrival. My Andhra Chicken Curry was full of flavor...there was a bay leaf in the sauce so I suspect it was freshly made. The curry was rich and thick and with the accompanying basamit rice was very hardy....I scooped all the chicken and curry up with my Naan bread...delicious. My wife's Bangah Bhar entree was again delicious and very hardy for a vegan dish. The combination of seasonings with the cooked eggplant, tomatoes, onions and green peppers was very satisfying and we both shared each others dishes as we always do. All in all we really enjoyed the food and the service we had at the Cinnamon Kitchen and do recommend them as an enjoyable dinning experience. So why only 4 starts you ask? Well, our tab came to $60.78 for everything. We did have 2 beers at $4.95 each so take off about $10 bucks and our meal came to about $50 bucks. To me I thought it was a bit expensive for the ingredients that were in our meals....tomatoes, green pepper, onions, a cut up chicken breast and seasonings. Will we go to the Cinnamon Kitchen again? Best Indian Food in the Asheville Area by far. Their flavors and curries are authentic, and can be made mild to very spicy. Our favorites are their Vegetarian Korma and Malai Kofta. I am angry at this business since they use bait and switch tactics when it comes to the coupons they mail out. Recently we ordered take out on Thanksgiving day and when we went to get our meal,we were to,d that they would NOT HONOR their very own coupon. They gave us the LAME EXCUSE that since they were open on a holiday, they weren't obligated to honor it. That would be fine IF THEY STATED THAT ON THE COUPON, but NOWHERE IS THERE ANY SUCH DISCLOSURE. Well their shortsighted GREED lost them a customer for life. Lunch buffet is really good with different dishes presented each time we have gone. Several vegetarian options. My spouse and I both agree this place is tastier than Mela in downtown Asheville. Wait service has been consistently terrible. On the last 3 visits we have had to get up from our table and chase down servers to get beverage refills. This is probably our favorite restaurant - we come here often and have tried many different entree items and they are all excellent. We always ask for "medium spice" and it is just the right amount of spicy for us. They have a good selection of reasonably priced wines. I took my son here with a Groupon. We started with Veggie samosas. Perfect. The dipping sauce was light and the samosas were just right. We both ordered the Mixed tandoori grill. Chicken, lamb and shrimp with veggies. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and we both would choose to order just shrimp sometime but the whole meal was fantastic. The lamb was tender and seasoned so wonderfully. The two types of chicken were moist and tasty we were tempted to not even use the sauce provided although it was too delicious to ignore. We got an order of garlic naan to accompany and it was fresh and hot and added so much to the meal. My child gobbled his meal down and I had enough leftover for him to have a whole meal for the next day. We ended with rice pudding which was light and delicious. This place is great. The server was attentive without being overbearing and was genuinely happy we enjoyed our meal so much. To begin the service was less than desirable. Our order was taken, but soon forgotten, only to be taken by someone else. The food took quite awhile to come out despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy on Friday evening. Not to mention, when it did finally come out, not once did the server inquire about how the food was nor did they ask if we needed anything else or even fill our glasses. Once we completed our meals, we sat in front of our dirty dishes waiting for our check that never came. Eventually, we decided to get up and pay and leave. Upon paying up, not once were we asked if we had enjoyed our experience. Backtracking to the food... I ordered Chicken tandoori tikka. It lacked spice, flavor and had a questionable texture as it was extremely dry and oddly rubber like. I would not be surprised if it was not fresh and had been microwaved. We have visited CK at least a dozen times over the last 4 years. The food is very good and the portions have left us with left overs. The staff are polite and the service has been prompt and the meals have been as ordered. Now as far as the Indian food goes. I feel it is pretty good for Punjabi cuisine . The Palak paneer, chana masala, and vegetables pakoras are excellent. We are vegetarians , so I cannot comment on the meat dishes. We have had great Indian food in Chicago, Los Angeles , and New York and this is very comparable. I will warn you that some of the dishes are very creamy and heavy! They aren't in the same league as Mela (downtown). I found the service to be friendly and attentive. I find their dishes that include chicken, to be a bit dry. Which tells me that the chicken might very well be cooked previous to the dish being made.
