This company is not helpful and dishonest. They are a partner with Samsung as one of their local…read morerepair providers. They were given my repair from Samsung for an in-home repair. After they were given the repair, they called and said they couldn't do an "in-home" repair and asked if I could bring the tv in to them. When I explained that I couldn't, she stated they were going to cancel the repair because they couldn't accommodate an in-home repair. (They are notified that it's in-home when they get the repair and they have to agree to in-home repairs if they're going to take on the repair via Samsung) The woman from Modern TV & Electronics then proceeded to lie and state that the repair was cancelled because of "Customer Request (Can't wait for repair)". This is a lie as she never discussed or said anything about timeframe and she also proceeded to say that was the only option available to her. (The Samsung Agent confirmed that this too was a lie and escalated this incident to have them reviewed as a repair partner). Based on other reviews, it seems this store may have been good in the past and lost it's way.

They said they could only give a price based off of me bringing it in so they can make sure that's the issue. They charged $100 and told me it was what I said it was and would be $1200 to fix a tv that retails $550 now. To make it better, I picked up the tv after telling them to not fix it, and they proceeded to try to charge me $1200 for fixing it, when they didn't! This place is not reputable and not trustworthy.

I was told they needed another week. So I called a week and a half later and was told they had no record of my laptop!! After sitting on the phone with the lady, she found my laptop (unorganized much?) She said someone would call me soon with information on it. No one called. Basically two months after taking it in, I went into the store and demanded my laptop. It was in the back somewhere buried but taken apart. Definitely not fixed at all. He tried to convince me to leave it because it was dangerous for the laptop to be handled dismantled, but I was having none of it. They even had the nerve to charge me! I paid the fee for the quote because it was the only way to get my laptop back. 6/2015- As you can see below, the owner continues to harass me and accuse me of slander years after I wrote this review. This is highly unprofessional and not good business. I wrote this review when I was a student at UW-Madison, and yes I have moved several times since. I'm not sure how that calls into question the legitimacy of my complaints. And yes, on that day in 2011, a woman answered the phone. She sounded like she was helping out as she didn't have a clear idea of what was going on. No idea who she was, but she definitely existed. Third, I contacted the store every two weeks so the 30 day limit would not apply to me. However, I think it is ridiculous that a store would not put the responsibility on themselves to stay on schedule and communicate with the customer. I'm so glad my review continues to exist despite efforts of the business to get it removed. He also attempted to write several 5 star reviews for himself if you look below at the hidden reviews (good job Yelp!). If you google the owner, Peter Cloonan, you will see he was arrested for forgery charges in 2014 and took a customer to Judge Mathis. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQO_av0IbtU)

He stayed a long time and charged over$300, and I later found it was still not working. A real pro came iver and took 15 min. to get it workimg, and charged $50.00. When I asked the owner for a partiall refund, he became hostile, and even made a homophobic remark. Efforts by the Better Business Bureau to secure a compromise were not answered. Turns out this business has numerous unresolved complaints with the BBB. There are numerous competant and honest techs in Madison, but this business is not among them. Their very shabby shopfront reflects their shoddiness.
