I have been using CitiBike since it was DecoBike. Had a lot of problems for many years, but it's improved a lot. I have noticed fewer bikes with issues. They seem to be doing a better job of maintenance. $20/month for unlimited use is a good deal. I use it for convenience a lot when I have to go short distances and saves me a lot of money vs. rideshare. Every once in awhile, the stations are out of bikes or the station is full and I can't return a bike. I wish they would expand and have stations in more areas of Miami. The coverage is great in some neighborhoods, but others not. Little Havana, for example, has I think only 2 stations, so makes it impractical unless you're ready for a long walk or to catch a trolley for part of the ride. My husband and I were visiting Miami Beach and saw the Citi Bikes down the street from where we were staying. The beach bike trail was also nearby, so we decided to try it. I was able to easily download the app, and the app was easy to use. Getting the bike out of the rack was super easy, and returning it wasn't difficult either. We paid for two hours and it was the perfect amount of time. When I used Citi Bike for the first time it wasn't easy to get the bike out of the docking station, which was a pain. But once I figured it out I did enjoy using Citi Bike a few times to get around while in Miami Beach. I stayed at the Goodtime hotel, see my Yelp review. At the kiosk interface you are required to enter the bike number in the final step of the rental process. The bike number is located on the long bar below the bike seat. Once you enter the bike number a green light appears at the docking station where the bike is located. At this point you have to quickly but gently pull the bike out of the docking station. When I pulled the bike too hard the movement seemed to lock the bike back into in the docking station. During the rental process, there's a diagram at the kiosk interface which shows you how to pull the bike from the station. But the problem is by the time you look at the diagram on the kiosk screen and then go to the bike, it seems the opening to access the bike will time out within 10 seconds or so, which means you have to start the process over again. When you return the Citi Bike, the docking station doesn't provide a signal or a noise when the bike has been accepted. With Divvy, a bike sharing program in Chicago, a green light appears with a sound and you can also hear a locking noise. With Citi Bike it is completely silent. Upon return I had to keep checking a few times to make sure the bike was locked. Again more effort and it shouldn't be this hard to rent a bike but understanding Citi Bike offers a relatively cheap way to get around the Miami Beach. Citibike would be great if there were ANY bikes at the majority of locations. Last Thursday I went to Ace Hardware on Alton at 3 o'clock, and at 3:30pm when I left, there was not a single bike in any of the FOUR stations I walked to, nor were there any in the other six I checked. That's ten stations with NO bikes. In the end I had to walk the two miles home. Not a big deal, but seeing as how I paid for a month assuming there would be actual bikes at each location, I feel completely scammed. Then on the next day I wanted to ride to my chiropractor on Collins at 10:30am, and guess what? No bikes by my house (that's a given; in the past week I've seen ONE bike there), the post office (ditto), or the station at 13th and Collins. Luckily there were all of two at the Walgreen's up the street, a half-mile from my house. However, on my way back, there weren't any bikes at either location near my chiropractor, so I had to take a $9 Uber. I don't know how there can be so many good reviews when Citibike makes no effort to stock their locations with bikes. Maybe it's just for tourists, and since I'm not riding to touristy spots, I'm out of luck. Whoever is having such an easy time finding bikes, I'd love to know your secret, because ever since I bought a month-long pass last week, I've been able to ride fewer than ten times, including the very first time when I bought the subscription (when will I learn to try something before committing?). I'd like to go to Ace Hardware right now, but guess what? No bikes near my house, the post office, 13th/Collins...you get the idea. Oh wait, there aren't any at 14th and Collins, either. I tried Citi Bike for the first time today in Miami Beach. The person I was there with decided to open and sign up on the App. Once we did it, I noticed my bike wheel was very wobbly and not secured. Decided to change out my bike and this time the seat was completely stripped and lose-no way to ride it so needed to return the bike -when I tried a third time, it wouldn't let me. First of all it took 5 try's to try to setup the app (iPhone) my friend was not able to setup hers (android). I called customer service x twice both times on hold for more than 30 and no answered. We had to walk 1.8 miles past at least 4 stations that had no bikes, we did end up finding 2 bikes, we had to try 3 different bikes before they would release. Anyway - we had some down time, it was cloudy , had a little breeze to help with the Miami humidity -it was a good day to take a bike ride. We rented right on Lummus Park at the 14th street mark- near the public bathrooms Prices were eh. I just wanted to ride down Lummus park and the beach walk that goes up to the 20's/ 30's... part of the beach walk are for pedestrians only ( wood board walk in which no bikes allowed) Anyway that was less than an hr so $6/7 bucks was no big deal to me. Pretty clean, a comfy, smooth ride, and all have a handy little basket up front to carry all of your stuff - backpack not necessary. Never experienced any issues with un- and/or re-docking bikes (I saw one that was out of order; however, there was a sign) and the seats were easily adjustable. So much more fun than Ubering it, cabbing it, or hoofing it. Rented bikes about 3-4 times over a long weekend. Some of the docks had problems: I would type in the number of 2-3 different bikes and the computer would say that they were unavailable, or seats were not able to be properly adjusted. One time, an entire rack of bikes could not be rented. Overall though, once the bikes were off the racks, it was smooth sailing. Miami Beach has great bike paths, and generally people bike in a calm manner. Tons of bike docks in South Beach, so you're never more than a few small blocks away, which make it great for getting to and from the beach or dinner to your hotel. I'm a city girl now! I own a bike. It's light blue and cute and has a basket. But it's a pain in the butt to have to find a safe place to park it and to make sure the tires have air. I became a member to the Citi Bike share program because I was able to expense my first month (took the bike to a client meeting, back when the weather wasn't melt your face hot) and now I'm happily paying for it out of my own pocket. My first time unlocking it was very complex, but after i watched the video, I realized I was the one doing it wrong. Now it's effortless.The seats are easy to accommodate to your height and I have yet to have a bike that is low on air. I will say, they are getting quite popular and twice now I've walked to a location to find NO bikes. Sad trombone. That and the fact that sometime the baskets are too dirty to use made me settle on 4 vs 5 stars. At $15 a month for unlimited 30 minute rides, this is a yes all the way. As a biker, pedestrian and car driver, I do want to say this...please learn the rules AND common norms of your area. On Brickell you should not be driving on sidewalks. On Biscayne you can (they are made wider for this purpose). Wild how the same street has different norms. Signal when you drive, use your lights and maybe get a helmet. Share the road. read more

These bikes are located all over and are the best means of transportation other than walking if you have time. They have the baskets in front for your belongings. The most common complaint we heard and we had the same issue was when renting them, we didn't pull it out properly and then didn't know what to do. We didn't want to be charged twice and when we called they said if we didn't pull it out, we won't get charged and to do it again. They were right! Otherwise they're great, easy to use, and adjust. I would suggest looking for the newer ones as at times the older ones had some minor issues like the seat not staying in the setting we wanted. Look for the ones with less rust in the front of the frame. Don't get the Citibike app!!! That app is only for the Citibike's in New York!! We did and then had to call to get it credited back to our card. read more
