I LOVE CitizenM brand. Exceptionally clean and consistent smell in the hotels. There is no need to go into the rooms being small. We all know that from the jump, they're all the same size. Would be an easy 5 stars. But I had to lower it due to the bed mattress being extremely firm, did a number on our backs. The area the hotel is in is pretty sketchy. If in DC again, I might try the Capitol location.

I first stayed at a CitizenM when I visited Seattle and I didn't mind it at all. It's one of the cheaper options for hotels in D.C. and I knew that I was getting since I stayed in one already. Rooms look exactly the same as the photos, and are standard across all CitizenM hotels, I'm assuming. Check-in and out was pretty seamless since it uses a kiosk, although there was a staff member behind it to help as well. When you check in, you get to choose whether you want a low/high floor and which side of the building it faces - but of course this is likely depending on what's available as well. CitizenM is a great option for those who plan to stay out majority of the day. The rooms are small but have all the essentials: bed, TV, bathroom with standing shower stall, hangers. You can control everything in the room from the iPad or on the app through your phone (lights, sounds, alarms, etc.) so it makes it convenient. Since we planned to explore the city, we weren't in the room often so it was a good option for us. However, they do have plenty of lounges and common spaces on the ground level, and even a gym downstairs as well. Breakfast is extra unfortunately but if you refer a friend, you and that person get free breakfast when they book! Their breakfast is definitely better than typical continental breakfasts. They had eggs, sausage, thick cut bacon, potatoes, cereal, yogurt and toppings, breads and pastries, and juices! They also offer coffee as well, which you can order from the barista. Another convenient amenity that they offer is free water! They have a water filter at the bar to fill up any bottles and they also leave out water in jars along with slices of fruit during the day.

I really enjoy staying at this Boutique, influencer friendly, hotel. When you arrive, you have the option to do self check-in or have one of the staff help you. The hotel is secure with card swipes needed for late night check-in and in the elevator to get to the rooms. The front lobby is trendy and colorful, with lots of seating options and coffee table books. The bar is ready for a late night hang and that early morning get over your hang over, and the menu is pretty good, with solid options for eating round the clock. Here's where I may lose some folks: the rooms are tiny. There's a bed, a desk, and the bathroom area. There is a small closet area at the door. If you are sensitive about your bathroom habits and having to share that with another human, this may not be the place for you. EXCELLENT for solo travelers who are on the move! My favorite part is two-fold, but has everything to go with sleep. This room is made for you to SLEEP, and I mean, make sure you set an alarm because you will oversleep. Features that support your rest: Automatic black out curtains that will literally block out all the light attempting to disturb your slumber. The bed and pillows are firm and supportive, and the bed is huge. The walls and windows of this hotel are THICK, so you can't hear anyone else's foolishness or the sounds of the city. The temperature is usually perfect in the room and I just love how cozy it is. The price is right and it is conveniently located near downtown and the hood! I love it here!

CitizenM has a really cool vibe throughout the hotel. The guest lobby area is one of a kind with lots of seating. They have a nice bar with a small area to hang outdoors, and yess they offer breakfast with a small extra charge. The rooms are clean and comfortable with options to have led lights that come from the bathroom. I had to choose pink! They have an iPad next to the bed that you can choose your light color, turn on the tv, control the curtains, and more. I got a great nights sleep, beds are wonderful. I wish they had parking. I would say that's the inly thing missing here. You cannot go wrong choosing to stay here! Service is great, plus there is a Starbucks across the street.

If you love smart houses and tiny homes this hotel is all you. I'd consider it an upscale hostel. It reminds me of that show on Netflix, the Circle. Upon entry you are greeted by an aroma similar to an expensive clothing store. Love that. The lobby or "Living Room," is vibed out with comfy and artistic decor. Nice touch. Check in is simple-ish if you are tech savvy or traveled abroad to a similar hotel style. After we fussed with the IPad and ID scanner and created our own room key while simultaneously given a brief hotel description by a lovely staff member, we headed to the elevator. Scan your room key or that elevator isn't going anywhere! Hallways on the 5th floor are vibed out in a deep red and black, artsy! The whole room minus the shower and toilet are controlled by iPad mini. Choose your mood with colored lighting, perfect your climate and connect your content from your phone via airplay or chrome cast. Now this all would be great...if everything worked efficiently. Connecting to airplay didn't work for me, which should be most convenient. Chrome cast worked fairly well for Netflix but not for Spotify. Climate can be adjusted to the warmest temp of 79 degrees F but drops to 77 degrees whenever it feels like it. That's odd. Curtains and blinds also controlled by IPad and sound pretty noisy when going up and down. Shower pressure good, cozied so close to toilet, bad. This is a small space again, upscale hostel vibes. Just ask, they'll hold your luggage or anything else you can't fit in the room, for free. Breakfast is $18.95, late check-out (3p) is $65.99. Bar is open till 11:30 with bar bites but no room service or pick up, so you will need to go downstairs to order. In conclusion, if you are traveling alone or with a small partner (lol) who is tech savvy, this place is for you. It's clean, beautifully laid out and fun. If you are like me an appreciate the hospitality of a traditional hotel, book with them. CitizenM is an experience to say the least.

I came across one of the bartenders Jamel's TikTok page and was excited when I saw he was located in DC. I asked him his location since I'm a foodie and sometimes make cocktails as well at home decided I wanted to check him out. Also, he makes great drinks and has great vibes. So, today my sister and I visited and when I say it knocked us right off of our feet in a good way because the pictures doesn't do any justice to their dining room(lounge area). It's so beautiful and bright inside. I can only imagine what the rooms of the hotel looks like. I love all of the vibes and feels of citizenM. I can't wait to go back for more drinks and food. I'm also planning a gathering with other content creators. I also got to meet the GM she's pretty dope and has great style! Wish I could post a video here.

Terrible hotel if you need rest With uncomfortable beds No amenity Loud mechanicals the heat doesn't seem to be working It poses as a cool place to be Using Plastic floors and silly bits of cuteness like a pillow doll or wiener dog from IKEA bookends The educated travelers will never return Except to enjoy the excellent party going on in the lobby Fun for the young revelers Misery for the traveler

I like the whole CitizenM vibe. But this one has a few challenges that didn't distract me when I stayed at the one in Boston. The first is parking. Since I have family in the area, the combination of construction, quickly gone, expensive parking and the closest "hotel" lot three blocks away and shared with another business; it is not convenient. Nice that it is close to the Metro, in northeast DC. There are a few restaurants, businesses and lovely murals. But it is a changing neighborhood with all kinds of folks, so look alive and Stay Safe. Cool stuff: CitizenM donates money each day you don't have you room cleaned; elevator is key controlled and their membership usually gives a discount. However, here the shower, refrigerator and iron were slow to work. There is a rude morning front desk guy, and a girl in the afternoon who complicated the usually simple check in process. But there's also Millie & my housekeeper who were professional and understanding, plus very talented morning barista gent and evening bartender who were all model employees. The CitizenM vibe is trendy. Cute pillows, bright colors, eclectic furniture provide quiet places to work outside of the tiny, clean, ipad controlled rooms. You could make it work for sure, but they can make small improvements to do better.

Perfect for One w/ an Artsy Vibe THE GREAT - 1) Having the option to check-in early with room choices based on floor level and view. 2) Supporting Artist!!! The esthetic was amazing and had a very unique look. I loved the different works of art. 3) The room was very clean and pretty comfortable. Of course, there was great tech to control everything in the room. 4) Location was great, restaurants, grocery store, coffee, banks, etc. are all within a couple of blocks. THE GOOD - 1) Check-in process was different, but good because there was someone to help navigate. 2) The bar was nice. 3) There was plenty of space in the lobby to work, chat, or whatever. THE BAD - 1) Bar service was a little slow because there was only one person working. But, she did her best and never seemed frazzled. My food (nachos) wasn't great (too much of whatever seasoning they use). 3) The bed was too hard and not super comfortable. 4) $80 for late check-out until 2pm is kind-of absurd. Sidebars - 1) You need your room key for the elevator 2) There are no irons in the rooms, but there is an ironing room. It's a steamer and takes 6 mins to warm up. 3) This is a tech forward, eco-friendly (seemingly) place. If you aren't good with tech you will either be frustrated or excited to learn something new.

My wife and I stayed here a couple of days during our visit to DC. It is nicely decorated, clean, and everyone working there is super nice and helpful. Rooms are pretty small, but you can make do with a maximum of 2 people staying there. The area around NoMa is also newly gentrified so be aware of that. I would stay here again when I travel back to DC.

OMG!!! If you are over 40 skip this hotel! No parking, no valet, rooms are smaller than a cruise ship. The worse was there is no agent at the desk and you have to use a computer and check yourself in! Every single person was struggling with this process. The room also says welcome John on the screen. The entire room is only the size of a bed! It goes from wall to wall.

Hola mai tai one day by DT other by Jamiel these guys are excellent

Everything in the room is controlled by a tablet including the temperature. Unfortunately, the tech doesn't work.

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

The central cherry blossom tree is the showstopper, and the main reason I chose the Waldorf for our afternoon tea. I had heard that there are several cherry blossom-themed afternoon teas all over DC that may have better food options, but this was the only one with decor this grand. My main concern was with our seating. I had called ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate my group to have a close seating location close to the cherry blossom tree due to our special occasion. The staff assured me during two separate calls that they would be able to accommodate our request, but upon getting seated, we were seated in the far corner by the bar. It is true that there is a fair view of the cherry blossom tree everywhere in the lobby, but I was disappointed at our far vantage point given the fact that I had called to confirm a close spot to the cherry blossom tree twice in advance. This is because I wanted to originally schedule the premium experience (premium seating, champagne, and fine china), but it was not available to groups larger than 4 and we were a group of 6. The service was otherwise perfectly fine and the portions of food were generous and tasty. We were all definitely full after finishing our savory bites. Our collective favorites were the chicken cherryaki and crab beignet bites, but we all appreciated the diverse offerings. We also had a friend with a peanut allergy dining with us, and they accommodated her easily by separating her pastries onto a separate tiered tray. It looks like the only item with a possible nut allergen was the crab beignet (her version had tofu). Despite the mild issues with seating, the experience was gorgeous.
