At Christmas every year, the composer Giacomo Puccini had cakes baked and sent to each of his friends. One year after quarreling with conductor Arturo Toscanini, he attempted to cancel the order for his cake. It was too late, the baker replied, the cake already been shipped. Outraged, Puccini promptly sent Toscanini a telegram stating: "Cake sent by mistake." Shortly thereafter, he received Toscanini's reply: "Cake eaten by mistake." Of course, this happened long before Toscanini, the restaurant, opened in Beaver Creek Village. There, very few cakes have been eaten "by mistake", though I'd assume many cakes, pastas, fishes, and all sorts of other delectables have been eaten quite intentionally. We were mighty hungry after a whole day of foot-deep powder and zero visibility. Our knees barely had enough strength left to carry us to Beaver Creek's plaza and we gaped in amazement as we saw kids who still had enough energy to ice skate. Kid's knees are dumb. They don't know when enough is enough...and a day of foot-deep powder is enough! Any adult can tell you that. We slumped into a few comfy chairs at the window overlooking the ice skating rink and the dumb-kneed kids. As a person with celiac disease I have become accustomed to passing by Italian restaurants. I usually shed a few tears for the pasta I can no longer eat and keep going toward any other restaurant I know won't be tempting me with gluten goodies I want but can not have. However that night I wanted garlic. I had to have garlic. It had to be Italian food. ...And garlic. I had asked upon entering about the possibility of eating at Toscanini but avoiding gluten. The hostess turned around and quizzed someone else who went to the kitchen to quiz the chef. Finally the hostess assured me the chef knew about gluten allergies and it would be no problem to meet my needs as everything was made from scratch and any dish could be altered in any way necessary to avoid triggering allergies. ...Only, I couldn't have the pasta. Okay, I kinda figured that. I ordered a salmon dish with risotto and asparagus. Our server checked to make sure the risotto and sauces were gluten free. They were. I asked her if it would be possible to add some of the roasted garlic I'd noticed on another menu item's description. While our dinners were being prepared, I could smell a sudden burst of garlic aroma from the general direction of the kitchen. There was a tall, skinny boy dressed in black from head to blade on the ice outside. He looked like a character from a Tim Burton film. He spun pirouhettes and zoomed backwards around the ice like an Olympic competitor on vacation. A small band of boys, some without skates on, doing belly skids and throwing snowballs at each other kept getting in the way of the figure skater. He'd deftly skid to a stop millimeters away from a clump of boys wrestling on the ice, turn and hop away into another spin around the ice. Obviously the Tim Burton kid hadn't been skiing that day and still had fresh knees. Our food arrived. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the sauce had a beautiful citrus flavor which made the asparagus kick. Kicking asparagus? Well, I guess the asparagus had better knees than mine...but not for long, since I scarfed my dinner down like a soldier returning from a year of jungle duty. Oh, and that extra garlic? It was in there! Yay, it was in there! You don't want to get in my way when I'm on a garlic binge. It is rare to find a restaurant that puts enough extra garlic on when I ask for extra garlic. Toscanini's chef added the roasted garlic to the risotto and although it must certainly have tasted different than the original chef's creation, was perfect for me. Garlic! Although dinner wasn't able to cure our aching knees it was wonderful to have such a responsive staff, attentive and friendly server, and chef who knows the true meaning of "extra garlic". As we left the Tim Burton kid was still zooming around the ice. Just watching him hopping, spinning and racing around made my knees ache a little more. Toscanini's Yelp reviews are all over the map, and I'm not sure why; a cursory glance at the ratings on Google and Tripadvisor show that the reviews there are more in line with my experiences. This was my second visit, and although my first time would have generated maybe about 4*, this one was a 5* experience. From start to finish, I'm happy to say we had an impeccable dining experience! A basket of olive bread and the antipasti platter started us off. An amazing selection of four delicious gourmet cheeses, beautifully-presented high-end cured meats, and interesting pickled vegetables was a great starter for the 2 of us, but it was large enough it could have pleased a table of 4. For the price, this was probably one of the best charcuterie boards I've had. For the entrees, we ordered the chicken alla matone and the beef cheek ravioli. The roast chicken was large, juicy, and tender with a perfectly crisped skin, and it rested on a pile of delectably-textured spaetzle. Half a lemon lay on top of the chicken, and once squeezed, the citrusy acid cut through the mouth-watering oils from the meat and the spaetzle. The ravioli pasta was made in-house and there were 3 large pieces stuffed with beef cheeks. The pasta lay in a soupy demi glace with freshly roasted cherry tomatoes, crunchy chunks of prosciutto, and mushrooms of which I do not know the names - the flavors melded together wonderfully! By the time we finished, we were too stuffed to order dessert. Our server Dave was perfectly knowledgeable about the wines and he steered us to a tasty Barolo and a Barbaresco based on our likes. He was accommodating, down-to-earth, and utterly professional. Never pretentious. The restaurant is darker with intimate lighting in an open dining room, which lent its masculine, upscale vibe. They recently expanded the bar area into the old crepe station, and later we were told they had replaced much of the furniture. The staff had big smiles for us when we first walked in, and we were given choice seats at our arrival time on Sunday night. 7PM saw the arrival of most of the guests, and it was pleasantly busy by 7:30PM even though a few tables remained empty. Being that it's in a ski village, dress was mostly business casual, but we saw a mix of fur-clad ladies on the arms of men in plaid and denim, and parents in business casual with scruffy kids in sweatshirts. Is it expensive? Yes, but we expected this. What we didn't expect was that the food was quite excellent, much better than what we tend to find at a resort. read more

This place is FABULOUS! We shared our 'Last Supper' in Beaver Creek last night at this restaurant - And, oh how we chose wisely! - The BEST dining experience we had throughout our stay..... We set dinner reservations for 8pm. Our server was Art. Art helped to make the experience a little more special. Although we had our hearts set on ordering the Saltimbocca, the dish was not available on their Summer menu, so we had to shift gears and choose other options - Which was not the plan. Nevertheless, Art offered up a couple of recommendations and we reluctantly decided on the Mussels and the Veal.....OMG, OMG, OMG! The Mussels were topped with LOADS of Italian Sausage, Roma Tomatoes, Basil, Parsley, CHUNKS of Roasted Garlic Cloves; all while swimming in a warm bath of intoxicating white wine and butter sauce! The absolute, BEST Mussels I've ever had in my life!!! They were sooooo outstanding that I was on the verge of ordering another order and foregoing having the Veal, altogether. But, after a little coaxing, Art and my BF talked me off the ledge and we were on to the next experience - The Veal!!! Again, the ingredient list in this dish was beyond words and every bite was simply to die for. I just had diner at Toscanini a couple of days ago. It was one of the best positive surprises I have had in a long time. Chef Tom prepared a couple of fantastic (both, in presentation and in flavor) appetizers (Thank you Chef Tom) and Sommelier Matthew paired all our dishes with the perfect wine for each of them (Thank you Matthew). We had a great dinner cutting across Toscanini's entire menu. An 8oz beef tenderloin with couscous and perfectlygrilled asparagus and carrots was astoundingly good. Tender, great sauce, and the couscous/veggies went surprisingly well with the beef. Grilled trout was outstanding, as was an angel hair pasta and shrimp special. Beet salad was constructed and spiced perfectly. Only downside was the pizza, which was solid but not as outstanding as the other dishes. Service was excellent and quick. read more

I can't say enough great things about this place. I honestly don't know why it only has 3 stars on here because it is fantastic. My husband and I started out with a couple of drinks. He got the old fashioned and I got the peach sangria. He said the old fashioned was delicious and had a good amount of alcohol in it. The peach sangria was so yummy too! The drinks were reasonably priced for this area (it is more expensive than what we would typically see at home in Indiana , but we weren't surprised by this) . They brought out some warm bread and oils to start with and it was amaaaazing. Had two baskets. Oops . For our entrees , we got the pollo and the ravioli. I'm practically drooling just thinking about the food haha it was so good. I had no doubt the ravioli would be good, but I'm fairly picky with chicken sometimes. However, it was cooked perfectly and was served on a bed of risotto with a really great sauce! To make the evening even better, the waiter surprised us with a free tiramisu which was to die for. So, coming from a foodie city (chicago), and one with great Italian, this place is a big miss in my book. I ordered a salad to start which had zero dressing on it and was pretty flavorless. We both had the ravioli for our dinners...and were shocked and disappointed when our dinners arrived with 5 measly ravioli on the plate. Now, if you want to claim this is a first course, fine. But for $26, you're out of your mind. And it wasn't even cooked correctly and was almost crunchy. Then we had to wait forever to get our check, while the waiter spent all of his time catering to the table next to us who was ordering expensive bottles of wine and appetizers. I finally had to go up to the hostess to ask for someone to check us out. If you're used to great Italian, and decent service, then better to find another option or cook at your condo, and don't waste your money. My neighborhood Italian place in Chicago puts this place to shame without even trying. read more

Had dinner for my anniversary here roughly a month ago, servers were supper helpful and respectful, we started with the octopus, which was perfectly cooked and more than delicious, the lamb risotto for the main course was also amazing. Outside of food, the wine list, and selection of beverages were amazing and both the servers and manager (?) were knowledgeable about pairing wines. My husband and I went here for our anniversary. The waiter asked if we were celebrating anything, of course we were excited that we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary! Our waiter Matthew brought us Prosecco on him. It was the perfect start to our dinner. We decided to take his recommendation for alpetizer. I wish I knew the name, but I can tell you what was in it. Apple polenta on the base of a cast iron pan, layered with carmalized apples, a mozzarella wrapped around ricotta cheese. Then layered with mushrooms and arugula. All garnished with lamb bacon. If I could tell you exactly what this tasted like, I would be an award winning author. It had both of us grining, rolling our eyes and moaning in delight. Our main courses were the two dishes we both couldn't resist trying. I got a seafood dish that came with buttered speghetti noodles, lobster tail, shrimp, basil infused Panco bread crumbs and wilted spinach. This is on the lighter side, but it does not skimp on the flavor punches. My husband got a veal, lamb, and I believe pork ragu. This was on a bed of homemade noodles and garnished with fried sage. This dish is on the heavier side, but so worth it! We each had half of each other's plates. We paid our meals with red wines, I had a glass of Pilot Noir and he had a Caberniet Merlot blend. To finish the meal we had cappacinos with a rock candy stir stick. Just enough sweetness. Likely the best coffee I've ever had. I will likely dream of thus coffee! My wife and I have dinner here with our 6 year old twin girls twice during Thanksgiving week. The food was incredible and the service was incredible. Brandi, our waitress, was amazing and made my kids feel very welcome. We had an amazing time, Brandi made the experience feel very special. Had my best meal in Beaver Creek at this restaurant. The wait staff is snooty, but I ignored that since my particular meal was great. The waitress mentioned that all of their wines were Italian. A few minutes later while I was discussing the wine our group drank the previous night @ 8100, the waitress decided to poke her head in and re-emphasize that they only served Italian wines. Snooty. The Bruschetta was fantastic. Either it was smoked mozzerella or fire roasted tomato that gave a great flavor. Good Balsamic vinegar on that as well. The table balsamic was not as nice naturally. I had the Pork Saltimbocca. They cooked it to perfection of a medium-rare to medium. Super tender and the addition of pine nuts and Prosciutto was very much a bonus. As a side note, a friend went here the very next night and ordered the same meal only to have it overcooked and therefore not as tender. Disappointing to not see consistency in a dish that is over $30+ Typical of resort restaurants they tend to overcharge and don't worry about inconsistency since they know they will get business regardless of quality since people are stuck from a limited # of restaurants Of the restaurants in beaver Creek this had the best food during our 1 week stay, but was still overpriced by about $5 per plate. read more

Happiest of hours was had here! $8 Pomodoro pizza which was extremely cheesy and tomatoey. It hit just the spot, and split between two people was the perfect small meal. $5 Wine - cannot complain. They also had specials on burrata and calamari which we did not try, but from the plates coming by looked delicious. The only critique I have was of the bartender - a personal thing but he seemed very unprofessional. At a dive bar his attitude would definitely fit in, but he seemed scatter brained, hung over and didn't care much about whether people got their food or not. Just one thing that got me real good... Overpriced! Since it's in a prime location maybe they think it justified the price and I'm sure that people staying at the surrounding hotels go here since it's just convenient. The food is alright and they have a decent selection. The dessert was so small it wasn't even worth it. I went across the street to the Village store and got myself a scoop of ice cream. Despite being spring break season and prime dinner time 7 pm, the dinning room was about 40% full, yet the hostess made us wait for our table. NOT Tuscan as the name of the place would suggest. It's just general Italian. Overall there's just nothing to write home about, yet here I am writing a review... food is ok, I wanted Tuscan, everything is overpriced, nice severs. If you are going to be speding $25-35 for a entree, go a little further to Grouse Mountain Grill or spend a little bit more for way better food at Splendido or Spago. read more

We had a wonderful family dinner our last night in Beaver Creek. The food was very good. The chicken in my dish was just a tad dry but not so much as to warrant a complaint. I had the Penne with chicken. I would order it again. My wife had the ravioli and my son had the Linguini. Both of them enjoyed the meal. I also want to say they made a good Arnold Palmer. Since there is no sweet tea in Colorado this is the only way to get a good tea product here. Being from Florida we are used to good sweet tea everywhere. I would recommend this place. Prices are higher than you might pay elsewhere but the place is in Beaver Creek so it is worth it.... read more

After years of coming here, this is still my favorite restaurant in Beaver Creek. I tried the qudrofiore (pasta with sausage, fennel, eggplant, and radicchio in a tomato sauce) as my main entree and had the blackberry cobbler for dessert and both were superb. Not only is the food delicious, the waitstaff is great. Joe gave us great explanations of menu items that led to each member of my party feeling like they made the right choice and was a pleasure to talk to. I ate there last night with my wife, son and a friend of my son's, and everything all 4 of us ordered was excellent and the service was on point for the entire dinner. Appetizers and entrees were good and we got a bottle of red wine (LilLove) with dinner. Overall the food was fine but the service really could have been better. Food was very good and arrived quickly but portions small. The service was horrid. The waiter said hello and then said he had to run to the storeroom for 7 minutes and that we could time him doing that (WTF?). In the meantime they brought water. I asked the water person if we could order an appetizer and she said "no"; only the waiter could do that (? strange). Already off to a bad start, ha ha. Then the waiter arrived and when asked if we could have an extra plate he made all kinds of whining noises and then agreed, eventually. He also was judgemental, "why would you want to share this?" Well - we don't want to get obese, how's that for an answer? Besides, it was 8 oz. of lamb, which I consider a shareable portion on top of bread and an appetizer or two? Anyway, when asked for coffee he whined again and said it will "take a while". I asked for tea and was ignored but he did apparently hear me because eventually tea was brought - after about 20 min. We got the coffee quickly but it was slammed on the table - in fact all food and drink was slammed down and we all noticed this. The dirty appetizer dishes sat on the table and were never removed at all (keep in mind this is not Denny's - entrees ranged from $35 - $70 each). He never came to the table after entrees were brought and checked to see if all was ok, as is customary. Eventually the server's attitude got to me and I walked over and spoke to the manager. The server, meanwhile went to our table (one of the rare visits) and starting jawing at members of our party! The guy was odd and the manager graciously acknowledged his shortcomings, saying something like "he's stressed" or "he's too busy". The food pairings with the Italian wines were excellent; I loved the cappelini and the veal. Limoncello was awesome. And the bread pudding. One of the worst meals I've ever had. We had to wait an hour and a half to get food, and that was only because we asked where our food was. When the food came out, it was as if it came from a preheated Applebee's meal. Also, the salad came out with a massive hair on top. The place is considerably too expensive for what you get. Wait staff was nice, but that was about the only redeeming factor. We had to show up late to a wedding cocktail reception because of this terrible restaurant that clearly is only around because of location. We really enjoyed this restaurant. They accommodated our group of 11, with five kids, with ease. The food was delicious from the salads, calamari and burratta appetizers through the scallops to dessert. All very good. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. my family and i traveled one hour from Breckinridge to have dinner here because we had a great experience here a couple years ago, only to find out that the quality has GREATLY DIMINISHED. I made a reservation for 8:30 online. Concerned about covid hours, i then called to confirm the reservation and was told they could seat my party at 8:30. I called at 8:30 because i was running a few minutes late and was told the kitchen was closed. I proceeded to ask why they would let me confirm this reservation if the kitchen would be closed when i got there? to which they responded we only had to be seated by 8:30 which is information they should have provided when i called to confirm my reservation. my question is.. if my party had to be seated by 8:30 but the kitchen closed at 8:30, what were they planning on serving me? a glass of water and then kick me out the door ? i would have loved to enjoy a meal here again but unfortunately i feel that the restaurant must provide better communication for the customer. read more
