I'm loving this place already. It's quite spacious inside compared to what I had imagined when just looking at the tiny storefront from the outside. If you're in downtown San Jose or reporting to jury duty at the courthouse, City Bagels is worth it. Excellent customer service too. Ladies working here are awesome, quick and efficient. There's a lot of city flyers/ads too. Plain croissant $3.25, Single cup hot latte $4.50, and my mushroom egg cheese on jalapenos bagel $7.99 was perfect. Very satisfying foods. Everything I had was delicious and generous in portions. It all tasted great! Price was good for the value. Afterwards, I purchased to go: Hot dog bagel $5.00, asiago cheese bagel $2.50, jalapenos cheese pesto bagel $2.99, ham & cheese croissant $5.00, and old fashioned sugary donut plus chocolate donut $2.25 each. Loved everything. The size of each piece was huge! Grab your own paper bags at the top counter or utensils at the counter next to trash bin. For a donut/sandwich stop, it won't disappoint at all. Space is good for dine-in/meetup. They also sell plenty of smoothies and boba drinks too. All looks tempting, especially in the $5.99 range. Convenient and very good. I really liked my first visit here. Downtown San Jose has great foods. I'll be back for more.

In and out in under 5 minutes this morning! The staff was super kind, greeted me as soon as I walked in, and got my order out quickly. The bagel itself was delicious. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese with jalapeño cream cheese, plus a medium bottled water, and a bag of popcorn. Total came to $17. Plenty of seating available if you want to dine in, which is a nice option. Overall, tasty food, fast service, and a welcoming atmosphere!

City Bagels always has fresh bagels, and they have the best taro I've tried in San Jose! The staff is always friendly, which makes you want to keep coming back every time.

I've lived in San Jose for years, and somehow, I had never been here until today. And wow, this place rocks! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile and a friendly hello. The staff is welcoming and hard at work making fresh bagels. This spot isn't just a bagel shop--it also doubles as a donut shop, and let me tell you, their donuts do not disappoint. We went for the star of the show: the bagels. We ordered a turkey bagel sandwich. The bagel was fresh, the turkey portion was generous, and overall, it was an outstanding sandwich. We also grabbed a small order of donut holes, and they were just as good. TL;DR: Great local bagel and donut shop--fresh food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. This spot has every bagel imaginable. If you're in the downtown area, make this place a part of your morning routine. Thanks, City Bagels!

So was traveling to San Jose for work and was jetlagged from a 2 week vacation in Asia Pac. I flew right in to San Jose coming off my vacation and was clearly jetlagged at 3 AM in the morning on Monday. After a quick search, i was able to find that City Bagels showed up as an option and it showed a 5:30 AM. The place was not a far walk from the hotel but i was worried that the time would be a bit later than 5:30 as it felt early. I waited till 5:50 AM or so and was sure glad i did as i think these folks have updated their hours to be open at 6 AM now vs 5:30 so be aware yelpers! The folks running the joint were SUPER friendly and i really appreciated the high energy and friendliness they brought. The offerings are pretty expensive with bagels, sandos, donuts, and then even other pastry type items im used to seeing at asian bakeries. I ended up ordering the SEC on a croissant which was a sizeable sandwich which was a plus. The Sausage lacked a bit of flavor for my personal like so would have liked hot sauce. Regardless, i appreciate such an early spot being open in downtown SJC and the level of service they brought to the experience. Loved the broad selection of items.

My serving dish with a missing - because I ate it so fast - cream cheese bagel. And my piping hot coffee.

A lucky detour--and a much better choice I happened upon City Bagels by chance while headed toward a certain broken-leg-logo'd national coffee chain--only because I didn't know any better. Fortunately, I looked up at just the right moment. What I found was a quiet, unassuming shop in downtown San Jose serving one of the best bagels I've had in a long time. My cream cheese and poppyseed bagel was fresh, hot, and full of flavor--crispy outside, soft and warm inside, exactly how a bagel should be. The coffee was just as impressive: hot, smooth, and satisfying without trying too hard. The atmosphere was calm and comfortable, with a kind of easy, unhurried energy that's hard to find these days. It feels like a family-owned business--and in all the best ways. Friendly, attentive, and focused on quality over flash. City Bagels was a happy accident I'll be repeating on purpose next time I'm in town. Skip the chain. Go here instead.

I came here for breakfast on a weekday with my sister. We each ordered a Lox Bagel Sandwich and a Vietnamese Coffee. We also ordered a dozen donut holes to share. Tell me why my total was $48?!?! I won't be retuning as when you pay with card, the lady ringing you up literally stares at you when the tip screen pops up.. This is a grab-and-go bagel shop not a sit down restaurant. The Vietnamese coffee wasn't strong enough and didn't taste like Vietnamese coffee at all. The donut holes were terrible - extremely dry. The Lox Bagel was fine. They added lettuce which I thought was strange as that doesn't usually pair with Lox. There is street parking right in front of the storefront.

Veggie sandwiches added egg salad pesto bagel and cheese and jalapeño bagel

This place was soooo yummy. We ordered 2 bagel sandwiches and a third w just garlic cream cheese. The garlic cream cheese was definitely the star. Staff is super friendly- we got created as soon as we walked in and the bagels were ready quickly. The place was super casual.

I was debating between two cream cheese flavors and then they said I could do half-and-half which I loved. The Greek goddess spread is also amazing. Same with the honey walnut. They feel much more like a soft Korean-style baked bun, but regardless of what name goes on them, they are just delicious. I arrived pretty early in the morning, and it was already quite busy with a line forming, so placing a pickup order in advance seems like the best move for future visits. I picked up three items to share with my family: the Garlic Asiago Bloom, the Jalapeño Bloom, and the Chili Oil Scallion Bloom. My six-year-old nephew claimed the Garlic Asiago Bloom and absolutely loved it, calling it soft and delicious. The Jalapeño Bloom was also extremely good, offering a wonderful kick from the jalapeños alongside a very generous amount of cream cheese. My absolute favorite, however, was the Chili Oil Scallion Bloom. The chili oil flavor was wonderfully prominent and rich. What really stands out is the texture. Every single bloom is pillowy soft, which allows the dough to hold the rich fillings of cream cheese and melted mozzarella together perfectly. Because they are so rich and indulgent, this might not be an everyday bagel spot for me, but it is an incredible, unique treat whenever I want to indulge. Sharing these with my family made for a great experience, and I will definitely be back.

This time, I preordered from their website and was able to grab my bagels right away from a different line. I ordered the corn cheese bloom and the monthly special, which was the gochujang bacon bloom. Both bagels were really good and stuffed with cream cheese. I really enjoyed the corn cheese and I feel like this is a staple. The gochujang cream cheese had a really intense flavor, but I liked how there was enough of a kick from the gochujang. They've got a good ordering system going where they have 2 separate lines for ordering and picking up. I highly recommend placing an order online in advance because the lines definitely get really long! Next time, I'd like to try their other flavors too, and I really need to try and make it by on the weekdays where they have the salt bread bagels.

I would love if they could improve the jalapeño cheddar bagel. They put such a small amount of cheese and jalapeños to the point that I wonder why they bother. They're a little bit heavier than my average NYC bagel, but they've definitely mastered the NYC-style ginormous schmear of cream cheese and/or loaded breakfast sandwich. I've enjoyed their bagels in both sandwich form (huge fan of the whitefish salad with cucumbers and tomatoes for a more protein-rich / substantive meal) and with just a generous helping of cream cheese (of which they have quite a few flavors, including several vegan options). They don't have a _ton_ of bagel flavors, but they do have all the classics.
