There's a lot of city flyers/ads too. Plain croissant $3.25, Single cup hot latte $4.50, and my mushroom egg cheese on jalapenos bagel $7.99 was perfect. Very satisfying foods. Everything I had was delicious and generous in portions. It all tasted great! Price was good for the value. Afterwards, I purchased to go: Hot dog bagel $5.00, asiago cheese bagel $2.50, jalapenos cheese pesto bagel $2.99, ham & cheese croissant $5.00, and old fashioned sugary donut plus chocolate donut $2.25 each. Loved everything. The size of each piece was huge! Grab your own paper bags at the top counter or utensils at the counter next to trash bin. For a donut/sandwich stop, it won't disappoint at all. Space is good for dine-in/meetup. They also sell plenty of smoothies and boba drinks too. All looks tempting, especially in the $5.99 range. Convenient and very good. So was traveling to San Jose for work and was jetlagged from a 2 week vacation in Asia Pac. I flew right in to San Jose coming off my vacation and was clearly jetlagged at 3 AM in the morning on Monday. After a quick search, i was able to find that City Bagels showed up as an option and it showed a 5:30 AM. The place was not a far walk from the hotel but i was worried that the time would be a bit later than 5:30 as it felt early. I waited till 5:50 AM or so and was sure glad i did as i think these folks have updated their hours to be open at 6 AM now vs 5:30 so be aware yelpers! The folks running the joint were SUPER friendly and i really appreciated the high energy and friendliness they brought. The offerings are pretty expensive with bagels, sandos, donuts, and then even other pastry type items im used to seeing at asian bakeries. I ended up ordering the SEC on a croissant which was a sizeable sandwich which was a plus. The Sausage lacked a bit of flavor for my personal like so would have liked hot sauce. Regardless, i appreciate such an early spot being open in downtown SJC and the level of service they brought to the experience. Loved the broad selection of items. read more

A lucky detour--and a much better choice I happened upon City Bagels by chance while headed toward a certain broken-leg-logo'd national coffee chain--only because I didn't know any better. I came here for breakfast on a weekday with my sister. We each ordered a Lox Bagel Sandwich and a Vietnamese Coffee. We also ordered a dozen donut holes to share. Tell me why my total was $48?!?! I won't be retuning as when you pay with card, the lady ringing you up literally stares at you when the tip screen pops up.. This is a grab-and-go bagel shop not a sit down restaurant. The Vietnamese coffee wasn't strong enough and didn't taste like Vietnamese coffee at all. The donut holes were terrible - extremely dry. The Lox Bagel was fine. It had a good amount of spice to it. Only thing is we thought we didn't get enough cream cheese. Maybe it's us being spoiled by House of Bagels, but if I come back here I'd request for more cream cheese. The cinnamon raisin bagel was all right but I would prefer it more toasted. But they are soft. -marinera bagel 5/5 - jalapeno bagel 5/5 Service; was mediocre. Lady that attended us was a bit loud and accelerated. She asked me for my order 3 times. So there i was repeating myself. Which i get you are busy. But maybe write it down. Also, a customer that went and picked up called out that lady and he said, "she was rude." As a recovered New Yorker, I have some experience with bagels. Like pizza, New York bagels are known as the quintessential bagel and virtually impossible to replicate here on the Left Coast. One morning while working out at Hotworx, the infrared sauna studio right next to City Bagels, the heavenly scent of bagels baking wafted through the vents (somewhat torturous when you are working hard to burn as many calories as possible). It was too much to resist! After my sweaty workout I stopped in and bought a bagel for my husband...I swear it was for him. They offered a wide selection ranging from the typical plain, sesame, and poppy seed to fancier varieties like pesto, jalapeno cheese and marinara. I decided on the multi-seed (Everything) for my husband...honestly it was for him! I brought it home un-toasted because everything is better hot out of the toaster and he has a special cutting technique. He sliced the bagel into three pieces (try this...it's the way to go) then toasted and generously buttered each piece. Now to be fair this is not a New York bagel, but it is the best bagel I have had since moving to California. The bagel was fresh, very flavorful and crispy on the outside with a nice chew on the interior. One of the best things about these bagels is that you don't feel like you have a rock in your stomach for hours after eating one. They are light and airy. I have since tried the pesto bagel and it is delicious! My husband also approves of the donut holes. The staff at city bagels is welcoming and friendly. I am always greeted with a smile and kind words. What I have noticed is that they treat everyone with the same kindness and respect...whether they are regular customers, newcomers or some of the areas unhoused who come in for a morning coffee and bite to eat. I have based this review only on my bagel experience. Being from New York, I'm extremely picky with bagels, but these are the best I've found in San Jose so far. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and found City Bagels almost completely empty. The man at the counter was friendly and the service was impressively quick. I got a Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on an Asiago Bagel for my boyfriend and an Everything Bagel with Lox, Onion, Tomato, Capers, & Cream Cheese for myself. I also ordered a Hot Coffee and an Iced Vanilla Latte. The staff packed everything up nicely for me and I was out of there in a little over 5 minutes, which I really appreciate. Both bagels were very good! They were on the smaller side but a good texture - the fact that they were toasted helped a lot.
