There is a lunch rush at 12pm but the staff handle it pretty good and are organized. Seating for about ten tables of 2-4. This place is a gem. Everything is very fresh, tasty, and awesome menu. I wanted to really like this small business tucked into an eclectic neighborhood of old businesses and a few casinos. But it was just okay. This is a deli with primarily hot and cold sandwiches and a few other entree choices. I ordered the carne asada torta with cheese. It cost $17. Ouch! That would be fine if it was packed with meat and cheese that made me feel better about the cost. Instead the sandwich had a small amount of filling. Great sandwich and coffee shop! Place was clean, convenient and had indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I'm vegetarian and they handled my sandwich to perfection! (for instance not using the same knife to cut the meat sandwiches as the veggie ones.) All the ingredients on my sandwich were fresh and I swear tasted organic. Bread was excellent! I felt good after eating the food here, which is a sign of quality. Price was another selling point. A sandwich here cost about 5 dollars less then other area sandwich shops. This was a disappointing experience, to say the least. The posted closing time was 2 pm, and after traveling 13 hours, we arrived at 12:50. Thinking we had plenty of time, we ordered and sat down. The ladies were both very nice, but that didn't do much to improve the overall experience. My husband wanted half a sandwich and soup. There were two soups listed on the board. They were out of the one he wanted, but then they told him they had a third kind of soup that wasn't listed on the board. Why not just change the board?!?! He opted for just a sandwich instead. When he received his tomato mozzarella panini, they had sprinkled so little shredded mozzarella on the sandwich that he didn't even know it was there. Had I not seen them make it, neither of us would have known there was any cheese on his sandwich. I ordered 1/2 a Philly cheesesteak, no mustard, with a small salad. First of all, I've eaten cheesesteaks from coast to coast to include Philadelphia, and NEVER have I seen one that included mustard. But since theirs did, I explicitly told her no mustard. She asked me what kind of salad, and I told her I didn't see any salads on the board. She told me the other board was out, and she ran through some of the salads. I stopped her at chef salad and completed my order. I sat down with my husband at a table and waited patiently for our food. There was only one person in the deli when we walked in, so we were not expecting a 40 minute wait. After about 25 minutes, I stood up to see what was taking so long. She had just begun making my salad. At this point, she told me they were out of ham and asked if just turkey was ok. Sure. Why not? Just get me the food so we could leave already. When we finally got our food, they told us they closed at 1. I pointed out that the sign said 2 and the open light was still on, and she told me they didn't know, that the owner called them and told them to close at 1. This would have been good information to have BEFORE we ordered. We took the food to go since it was nearly 1:30 at this point, and we discovered they had locked us in the deli. Hello, is this not a fire code violation?!?! The handle was janky to boot, and she had to come over and fiddle with the handle to get it to open. Frustrated, we left. When I opened my sandwich, I ended up with a chicken cheesesteak (I think) WITH mustard. No big deal, right? Oh, if only. We were looking for a different restaurant option for lunch today. I went on Yelp and found Oasis Deli. If you live in the San Jose area and have not been, then you need to get on down there! The menu is really quite large--especially for such a small place. It is a no-frills deli. Maybe 8-10 tables. Counter service. Nothing fancy. I ordered an Asian Chicken Salad. My fiancé ordered a hot Pastrami sandwich and his coworker ordered the hot Chicken Supreme sandwich. All of our food came out pretty quickly. My initial reaction to my salad was that it looked quite plain--and it did. I think it was lacking color. It needed something red in it. But the taste of the salad was really good. I think the dressing was key but the chicken in the salad was really delicious. Both men enjoyed their sandwiches. The pastrami sandwich was wolfed down in about 4 bites. I really think I would like to try the Chicken Supreme sandwich next time I go. It looked good--chunks of chicken breast, avocado, bacon, swiss...oh my! While I was finishing my salad, my fiancé went up for a cookie. The chocolate chunk cookie was HUGE and was only $2.50. I think that's a steal. He said it was perfectly soft, fresh and chewy. While we were sitting around, the restaurant finally started to slow down. The guy working the register (and serving) offered to let us try the pozole. It was so good. I would return just for that soup. The broth had so much flavor. It had good heat (spice) without being too powerful. The hominy and chicken were delicious. Yum. I'm getting hungry again. The interior of Oasis Metro Cafe resembles the way Cafe Zoe is set up - wall of a written menu, case of salads and beverages, coffee to the side, however I feel Oasis Cafe is much more accommodating. Scanning at the menu I opted for a tuna melt vs a build your own. ($7.99 menu price (one of the more cheaper options) + tax, bringing my total to $8.73 - definitely not bad for a sandwich in the airport/business area.) Overall it was very tasty. I asked for it without onion. It was on a toasted rye bread - which looked almost like panini pressed with the grilled marks and was still warm when I ate it back at my office (10 minute walk) so I definitely appreciate the freshness of it. At best, I would say it was competent but over-priced -- $8 toasted sandwich which was just about 4 thin slices of pastrami between 2 slices of sandwich bread with a whisper of sauerkraut and a thin slice of cheese. Wtf. So, I was craving a gyro, but I couldn't find That's A Wrap. This place was open and in clear sight, so I decided to give it a whirl. I made one big mistake. For a place that's surrounded by businesses, I should have taken the place's emptiness as a bad omen. I ordered the gyro sandwich due to the aforementioned cravings. Paid $10 including tip and waited for my gyro. I look over the counter and the cook warms up some gyro in a microwave. Strike one. I pick it up, and this sandwich is fucking tiny (see my picture). As you can see the thing is not much bigger than my mouse. You're gonna charge me almost $6 for a kid's meal sandwich? Strike two. But hey, maybe it'll be the best gyro I've ever tasted. WRONG. It's probably the worst gyro I've ever tasted. I think the ones they serve at Yack In the Box are better. Biting into the pita bread could have ripped my teeth out of my mouth. It was that stale. Strike three. You're out. Way out. The pickles were the worst pickles I've ever tasted as well. Game. Over. I wish I would've read winkydink's review prior to coming to this place.
