Yummy!!! I was heaven eating here today. I was so stuffed from the great ribs, greens, Mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and tea! I forgot to add I did have peach cobbler for dessert. This food is awesome! No need to use the extra sauce I grabbed. Everything was seasoned to perfection! Those ribs...oh my goodness we're smoked perfectly! I loved everything about this place. City BBQ is Fantastic! They catered our Wedding Rehearsal Dinner! They made everything SO easy for us! I loved it! All we had to do was go in, sit down and be spoiled by a very friendly Lady who kept bringing US FREE Food to sample to decided on what we wanted them to bring The Day of our event! So easy! This way you got to TASTE the FOOD not just look at pictures! They took over from there!! I didnt have to do anything but have the door unlocked! They we're magnificent!! On time! Came in, set everything Up incl Plates, plastic wear, ALL The Food etc! Even leftover Boxes! They thought of EVERYTHING! It was SO CONVIENT, saved US TIME n MONEY! This is the best place for cue in the whole damn country. Try a double meat plate of brisket and anything else and it will be the best meal. The sides are absolutely the best with baked beans and green beans too. Excellent sweet tea. read more

Once I arrived there I told them it was my first time and they were kind enough to give me a small gift bag with their rub in it. I also explained that I do not eat pork so I would just like the brisket and pulled chicken with two sides, mac n cheese and corn something..... They said they would give me a sample tray also with the different sides to try. I was very impressed with the customer service until after paying I got to the pick up counter. The girl there was great but the one who was working the sides serving counter was very rude. When I told them I do not want any sides with bacon or pork in it the first girl told the moody one to NOT put any sides containing pork products of my sample tray. She just made a face at her like she was frustrated. Once I got my food and sample tray and went and sat down and noticed that she had give me the colored greens with bacon and something else with pork in it. I was so frustrated and angered at the disrespect I was shown. So let's move on to the bbq. The pulled chicken was moist and ok but the brisket was very dry and tasteless. For $22 I would expect much more flavor but fuck it I'm never going to go back to that place again. City BBQ SUCKS the food is barely there when you go to a real BBQ Resturant the portions are always XXL. Maybe that's why it's called city barbecue because in the city they don't know crap about barbecue! But they want to charge you like there's enough meat to put you in a meat coma. I really want to like this place, the smoker seems legit, they are popular, their staff is friendly, the interior is roomy and looks great, but I have to say, EVERY time I've been here the meat is dry. It doesn't seem to matter what I order...dry. They offer a fantastic variety of BBQ sauces, but good BBQ shouldn't require that to make it edible. The sides are great. It's not bad, but it's not a place that stands out. We came in yesterday, only due to a local organization having a City BBQ one-day fundraiser. Generally, this isn't a place we'd choose to eat. (Sorry, but you can't beat home-grilled food)! We were greeted by two very friendly women at the cash register. They didn't seem to know what to do with the flyer we presented (so that our purchase would contribute to the fundraiser). That's alright, maybe the manager didn't tell them? I ordered the pulled pork and a side of mac and cheese. The pulled pork was pretty decent! The mac and cheese, however, was pretty bad. The noodles disintegrated in my mouth, and hardly had any flavor to them. The green beans and bacon side was slightly more appetizing. The best part about the visit was the lemonade and the friendly service, but there's nothing about this place that makes us want to return. read more

The food was good for midwestern barbecue. They have several flavors of BBQ sauce. I tried the sweet and bourbon, both were OK. However, I went with my family and because we had a larger group they really struggled to serve our order correctly. They gave us items that belonged to someone else, which was quite awkward when we brought it back and that customer was standing there waiting for her food. My favorite thing we tried was the potato salad, it was so creamy and delicious, and reminded me of a homemade variety. read more

I'd never heard of City BBQ until seeing the stand at the Popcorn Festival. I've been under a rock I guess. Since seeing the booth, I see that this is a chain... and it's EVERYWHERE. Oh, well. The Beavercreek location is actually whimsically decorated (maybe they all are and I'm ignorant to the fact?) with this cowboy/The West theme. I found it cute. Especially since my 14 month old was enaaaaamored with the cow out front. The girl who took our order was wicked kind to our noobness and took the time to explain what was on the menu and what it entailed. My H is SUPER picky, so he always asks a million questions- poor girl. She took it well. After getting three different meals (for two adults and a toddler who barely eats...), nothing is worth writing home for. All were decent though. Oh! And it could be a chain/"southern" thing, but I found the sweet tea wicked good. My northern-ness salutes your tasty, overly sugared tea! It's a chain, so blah, right? What makes me give this location four stars is that I placed an order for pick up at 9:54 one night. What's wrong with that? Well, they close at 10! (DAMN YOU OHIO! For BBQ I always avoid chains, but I'm glad I didn't today. City bbq was some of the best bbq we've had in Dayton. We had the mother load feast and it came with a variety of meats and sides. I have never tried a barbecue place like this before. We were in the area for softball tournaments and decided to try this place for dinner. We got The Motherload dinner. It was amazing. The brisket really captured the smoke. The pulled pork was better than any pulled pork I have ever eaten. I can only look forward to the next time I stop at this place for dinner. One of my favorite places to eat in the entire world...no exaggeration. I live in the Washington, DC area but am often out to Dayton on business. I actually look forward to (and dream about) eating City BBQ. In fact, a few of my friends who live in Dayton have started a tradition of text messaging me "Mmmmmm...you know" every time they eat there just to torment me while I'm in DC. You really just can't find BBQ like this most places. In Baltimore, they advertise for "Pit BBQ"...which is completely misleading. It's not BBQ if it's not slow smoked. Pit BBQ sucks. This is the real deal. Delicious bark...clear pink smoke rings throughout the meat...awesome selection of house made barbecue sauces (served both warm or room temp). The sides are amazing (I recommend the corn pudding and baked beans), the sweet tea is LEGIT and the "help yourself" pickles complete the meal. The atmosphere is amazing. Picnic tables, old school Robert Johnson style acoustic blues, random bbq memorabilia on the walls. You'll leave totally full...but the best part won't hit you until you get back in your car and start to drive off...because the smell of smoked pork will follow you for the rest of the day. Barbeque chicken. mmmmmmmm. I didn't actually eat inside City Barbeque, but I had their food catered to a wedding rehearsal dinner that I attended. It was SO good. I over-ate this buffet for sure- The meat was super tender, the flavor very good, with a tangy sauce on top. Everyone kept talking about how good the food was, so I wasn't alone in this opinion. I tried two sides- coleslaw that was vinaigre, not cream, based and mac and cheese, and they were alright, but it was the chicken that was a real winner. Disclaimer: Shortly after I wrote my initial (one-star) review of this City Barbeque location, I was contacted by a member of the City BBQ corporate team. I was offered a $50 gift card and asked to give the Beavercreek location another shot. As such, take anything I say with an appropriate amount of salt. Jules and I used said gift card to grab takeout this week, after spending the majority of our evening cleaning up the house for our impending holiday celebrations. We ordered online, which was a smooth and seamless process. Both Jules and I ordered "City Samplers", which contained a sampling of most of the meats available on the City Barbecue menu. One of the unfortunate realities of barbecue restaurants is the likelihood of running out smoked meats. That happens--I understand it and respect it. And, given the fact that we ordered relatively late in the day (about 8:20 pm), the store was out of both brisket and smoked pork. That doesn't bother me, especially given the portions of turkey, sausage, and chicken we each were given. What does bother me is the inattentiveness of the service staff in serving these items. We stood for a solid 10 minutes in the restaurant at the counter before being served. While the gentleman at the "pick up counter" was on the phone (with another customer--not complaining here), at least two other staff members made eye contact with us, then promptly turned away. Foodwise, the aforementioned City Sampler comes with two sides. While Jules got both of hers, my applesauce was not included (which I didn't realize until returning to Englewood and unpacking the bag). Further, my chicken wasn't picked particularly well, and I found two large (and inedible) pieces of cartilage in among the meat. I'm really struggling to think of reasons to actually go to this City Barbecue location, which is anything but a good sign. With numerous other, better barbecue options throughout the Miami Valley, I'd give this place a pass. read more

City BBQ is always a solid choice. It's not the best BBQ I've had but for the price and location it fits the bill. The sides leave something to be desired, the corn is by far the best in my opinion. But the meat is delicious, the bbq is also great..and I love that they have different options on the table. The staff always seems friendly and the joint is kept pretty clean. You can seat yourself but you do have to clean up after yourself also. But hey you're not tipping someone to do it for you. So I think it's worth it. read more

Everything I tried was excellent but the food was a little heavy for a California girl. My favorites were the hush puppies, the banana pudding, and the pulled pork. Portion sizes are great. I had the gumbo. It came in a relatively small bowl. Thank goodness, because that was a heavy dish! I couldn't finish it. Not by a long shot. Still yummy. My husband and I tend to come here when in need of a large meal where we can take home a ton of leftovers. Which is why we get the family platter everytime. Hey if it keeps me from cooking every night I'm all for it. My only complaint is the consistently of their food. You can tell if its fresh from the pan or if its been sitting out awhile and needed to be warmed up in the microwave. I find their corn pudding to have this issue most of the time. It can be very dry, a little burnt, and doesn't taste very good. But if you can catch a dish of this when its warm, gooey, and fresh it's SO GOOD! read more

I love City Barbeque. They have a great menu, tons of different sauces to put on your meat of choice and awesome sides. My favorite is the corn pudding, and no offence to Joanne, but I think it's far better than Oink-a-doodle-moo's"! There is ample seating inside and their Beavercreek location has an enclosed area that converts to patio seating in nicer weather. I think that their tables and chairs could be more comfortable, and I do not enjoy bussing my own dirty dishes. They ask that you sort your dirty dishes into separate compartments and it's pretty messy! read more
