Decided to come check this place out, heard some good things from my co workers. I walked in and looked at the menu which looked pretty self explanatory. I placed my order to a super happy cashier which was a nice experience as I love friendly people. I got the brisket sandwich on recommendation from a friend and also ordered two sides. The first side was the fries and the cashier asked if I want cheese and bacon on them to which I replied "...why the hell not". I had a hard time choosing the second side and asked for a recommendation from the cashier, "I love the baked beans" he exclaimed so I said "give me some damn beans". I was glad he did... The brisket was pretty good, tender and good flavor, plenty of sauces to pick from in the sauce station and even pickles and jalepenos. The beans came right away with my order and man they were good, lots of flavor, had chunks of meat in there too. I had to wait a bit for the fries but they brought them out to my table about 5 min later. The fries were delicious, loaded with bacon bits and cheese but man it was a big portion. I like big portions cause I can eat but I was surprised! Overall I enjoyed the food, atmosphere was pretty standard to other bbq chains. I'll be back to try some of the other offering. If you're getting sides keep in mind they are big and definitely try the baked beans. read more

Corporate restaurant too big to provide proper attention to customers. Consistently out of turkey while their web site menu shows they have it. Consistently missing items from orders. You cannot contact this store when there's a missing item or other problem. You have to call their call center to state your report and then maybe-to-no compensation for your loss. read more

Had dinner here with my family. We had the 4-6 family pack and it was more than enough food for everyone. The brisket was excellent and the smoked turkey was delicious. For a quick BBQ lunch city BBQ is perfect. One word: Brisket! The brisket is outstanding, moist, flavorful, right amount of fat. Natalie the lady behind the counter is always smiling, welcoming and patient with the undecided. Food comes out quite fast. The reward program is easy to use and rebates comes by often. The gentleman cooking the cornbread was not happy with how the fresh batch turned out, so an offer to compensate with a side was made. Went with hush puppies. Good folks. Food:4/5 The sampler had brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken; Texas toast, cornbread, and sides of baked beans and greens. The brisket and the pulled pork were a touch dry, and the ribs are not the fall off the bone variety (I know there are different schools of thought on this, and this isn't a complaint, it's just a statement), and the dark meat 1/4 chicken was definitely fall off the bone. I tried the Swine Wine with the pulled pork, and loved it. Had the Brush Fire sauce with the brisket, and loved that, too. Had a little taste of the Bourbon sauce, was a little too sweet for my taste. I need to come back and try the rest of the sauces, like the Cheerwine! My boyfriend and I came here earlier this month and ordered ~$45 worth of food. While we were waiting for our food, the pop machine was not properly working and tables were filthy. Upon getting home to eat, my boyfriend had four small pieces in his burnt ends dinner. The dinner came with two sides but he only got one. I got the half slab of ribs and they came dry and burnt. No bbq sauce... didn't realize I needed to take some to go - even though I ordered bbq ribs. We ended up calling to receive a refund for the portion of the order we didn't get. The manager, I forgot his name, basically sent us a $40 voucher. Okay, cool. Today, we were coming from the city and CB is about thirty minutes from my house... we wanted to order ahead to pick it up and take it to go. The lady on the phone informed that we needed to pay if we order online. I totally get that. I tried to explain that we had a credit voucher and we didn't want to wait for our food, hence why we wanted to order. They told us we had to come in. I really just wanted brisket but I didn't see where u could just of ordered one meat, I should have asked. I ended up getting the more cowbell against my better judgement. There was way too much going on with this sandwich to enjoy what u come to a BBQ for - the meat. The smothering of cheese and eek fried onion rings buried the brisket into obsolescence. The potato salad I got was super salty and had more of a consistency of really thick mashed potatoes. Will try again and not mess with any of the sandwiches and just get brisket. Very nice place when you walk in but disappointed a bit wit the service & food I received. First of all I'm a first time customer, the gentleman in front of my was there for his 2nd visit and the cashier gave him a discount and was very courteous to him. As soon as I walked up next, very straight face and wasn't even greeted. I think the value of the food wasn't didn't go hand in hand with the price, yes I understand the food is made from "scratch" and that it's brisket and all the meats but the portion size was small and flavorless as well. I finally decided to stop by for lunch, and I'm so glad I did! I had the garden salad and added pulled chicken. I really didn't have any expectations as I stopped in on a whim. The garden salad is a good size portion, but with the chicken added it became an entire meal! The flavors of the pulled chicken were delicious, so so so yummy ! The meat was made just right, the seasoning was perfect, the amount of chicken is nicely proportioned. The service was nice and fast, the prices are reasonable. There's also an area where you can get sauces and lemons, pickles and something else I can't recall. I did notice that they have fries as a side a long with other sides which I didn't get, but will absolutely have to try next time. Boy are these good ribs. No wonder they have so many restaurants in the Midwest and south. They have restaurants in Kentucky, Georgia, and North Carolina. I am used to baby back ribs. These are St. Louis ribs, which have more meat and fat than baby backs. You can buy a full slab, 1/2 slab, or by the bone! I had 3 bones and their baked beans as a side. I had the chipotle bbq sandwich, corn pudding, and the peach cobbler for dessert. My husband had the brisket, pulled pork, and corn bread. Everything tasted very fresh, juicy and flavorful. My order was ready when I arrived, all the food was hot and they even called me as soon as they received my order to inform me they were out of banana pudding. City Barbecue asked if I wanted to replace with the peach cobbler, and I'm so glad I did! I am excited to go again the future, as it was the best barbecue I've had in a long time. We just stopped by city barbecue for a quick family bite! We tried three types of meat: brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. We tried the Brunswick stew, hush puppies, Mac and cheese, vinegar slaw, and fresh cut fries. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was that the max and cheese was a little cold, but once I mixed in some pulled pork, you could barely taste the difference. They have a huge variety in sauces, and my favorite by far was the Brushfire. But everyone is different and tasty in each own way. One of the best roasted chickens I've had from a restaurant in years!! Despite a number of options in the area, I've been underwhelmed by the roasted chickens I've gotten from other restaurants and stores in the area. I either get a chicken that's too dry, or a chicken that's overcooked. In many cases, I think the quality of the actual chickens is a big culprit. It seems like City Barbeque has a premium chicken supplier, because their cluckers are excellent. The skin is supple, the meat is tender, the breast and thighs weren't bloated, there's just the right amount of fat in all the right spots, their joints and connective tissue were nice and plump - all signs of a chicken that was raised well. They seasoned it nicely, and cooked up their chicken to a perfect consistency. A+ roasted chicken, in a neighborhood sorely lacking in good chicken options - nice! We also grabbed a half rack of ribs, which were St. Louis style. Pretty good ribs, though not quite as good as their chicken (that was a hard act to follow up on). Meat was a touch dry, but the seasoning was excellent (great smoke profile); I'll definitely try them again and see if I get a better rack next time. Sides were okay - nothing particularly remarkable. They were at least a step up from Real Urban BBQ in Highland Park (the quality of their sides has slipped a lot in recent months). I want to try some more in the near-future. For dessert, we got a free chocolate cake upon our first visit that was pretty good. It was definitely chocolate cake, and met every expectation for chocolate cake. The BANANA PUDDING, on the other hand, exceeded all expectations I have for banana pudding from a restaurant. I've had a lot of banana pudding in my travels - like a LOT... Probably more than I should have (no regrets!!), and City Barbeque's little banana pudding cup sits among the 6 best I've had. I dare say they were about as good as Mary Mac's Tea room or Fox Bros. in Georgia; and Muddy's Bake Shop in Memphis. They were only a notch below Edly's BBQ in Nashville and the legendary super banana-ey banana pudding from Ray Ray's Hog Pit in Columbus. Dude, seriously, this is TOP-TIER banana pudding, and I'm gonna be getting it way more often. If you're down to party with the regal cavendish banana and vanilla wafer duo, I HIGHLY recommend you try City Barbeque's banana pudding cup! read more

I ate here for the first time the other day and thought the food was very tasty. The brisket had a nice char on the outside and was extremely moist. The turkey was phenomenal, and possibly the best I've ever had. As for the sides, they were hit and miss. The mac & cheese was a disappointment, and the fries were average at best. The vinegar slaw, corn pudding and hush puppies were all yummy. I also liked the green beans, although I wish they offered an option without bacon in them (my wife is a vegetarian). I'm normally not a huge potato salad guy, but I thought theirs was absolutely delicious! I'd also highly recommend the warm peach cobbler for dessert. :) Overall, I'd say the food is very solid and I'll definitely return. It's not nearly as good as Smoque in the city, but it's probably on par with Real Urban BBQ. read more

Just found my new go-to local BBQ Joint. This time it was take out for dinner. I had the pulled pork, while my husband tried the turkey and the ribs with a side of Cole slaw. Everything was delish! Along with 3 sauces to try and mine is Sweet City. I will definitely be either dining in or take out again. After my last trip to Portillo's was such a disappointment. I'm glad to have these guys close by my house. Be sure to check out the menu online. They have all your typical choices, brisket, pulled pork ribs, chicken & turkey. It was a pleasant surprise when I drove by the plaza and saw City Barbeque opened. I had no idea a bbq joint was opening up in Deerfield. It may become a go-to for bbq in the north suburbs for me. We arrived around 6:30 PM, so the prime dinner time rush was happening. No worries though since the line moved fairly quickly. City Barbecue offers the standard fare of bbq items (brisket, pulled pork, ribs, smoked chicken, sausage, etc) along with some interesting options (brisket tacos and rib sandwich). We opted for a half-pound of the brisket and two rib sandwiches with a side of cornbread and Mac and cheese. Our food came out surprisingly quick, which was great. There's a lot of options for sauce, my favorite being the peach habanero! The original bbq sauce is also delicious but I kept coming back to the peach. The brisket was good, it was tender and not too dry. I'll have to go back and try it again. I've definitely have had better brisket but this is still good! There's quite a lot of seating available, but during the dinner rush it might be difficult to find some. Overall, it looks like I've found a new bbq joint to go to for those times I don't want to drive into the city. read more

I can't fault the food. It's delicious. On the food alone, I'd give a 4 star rating. Their BBQ chicken gets 5 stars. But, the restaurant is poorly run. While I have other issues, my main complaint is order accuracy. I have to say that my order is inaccurate approximately 25% of the time. I've received multiple apologies and free items, but that really doesn't compensate for having to drive away and then drive back to get my order fixed.
