I've been back many times since my last review and I must re-evaluate Little Louies. I have come to the conclusion they are a top notch Chicago-Style Hot Dog shop!! I'm from Indy and am here for work. This place was recommended to me and has great ratings on Google, plus it's within walking distance of where I'm working so why not? Walk over, order a cheeseburger, fries, cheese sauce and a drink. $20. Whatever. The Green River drink was great. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Get back to the office and get my food out. Burger looks OK. Kinda sloppy but it's OK. Huge sack of fries. Cheese cup. Pop the lid off the cheese and take a finger try. Wtf is this? It's grainy, it has the look and texture of hummus. Put the lid back on and tossed it back in the bag. They must have given me a cup of cheese sauce that fell behind the counter 5 years ago or something by mistake. Ask my coworkers who are from here and they all come to life about how "this is Merkts cheese and that's how it's supposed to be, it's the best thing ever" and how they "could just eat it with a spoon, blah blah". It's not cheese sauce. It's terrible. It belongs in the trash. The fries were also cooked in old oil way too long. It was all 1 inch bits fried crunchy until the potato inside evaporated. I love a good Chicago style hotdog but I was a bit disappointed. The style of hotdog is more in line with Jim's original, so slightly less snap. It was expensive too. Was initially thinking of trying their burger but everything here is pricey. Fries were decent and crispy. Will not come back because I think there are other places nearby that do it better. The Little Louie's food truck offered different wraps, burgers, hotdogs, fries, etc. I had a very tasty chicken avocado wrap, and fries with cheese (Merck's!). I used to frequent Louie's a lot when my kids were younger when we'd be at park across the street. I remember liking it very much, but just picked up a to go order and it's definitely not the same. Gyros meat tasted like the fake strips you buy at grocery store, char dog was burnt and served on a stale bun. Fries were fine but the cheese sauce came in a thimble size cup. Knew of Little Louie's but have never been there before until recently. They have a large menu that includes Mexican food and a guy working the register with an attitude, impatient, even when it was off peak that I was there and no one was in line. Ordered a salad for my boss and a steak burrito for myself. No drink, no fries, nothing else and it was over $30. If both meal were amazing, ok, prices are up everywhere. Both were underwhelming. The burrito should have been enough to fill me up. It was falling apart since there was so little steak or veggies inside it. Cheaper and much better at Chipotle! Northbrook institution with good reason. Very dependable each and every time, from the very longstanding employees who are ever so friendly to the quality of the food. I love how community minded they are from the many photos, articles, and memorabilia covering the walls to their participation in community events and celebrations. They have changed over the years from increasing menu options, far too many, overwhelming, though it does mean more vegetarian options than your traditional hot dog stand, to now only seating on one side of the restaurant (?). Obviously their prices have gone up too, pricey but not crazy. Years ago their fries were different and delicious, several years ago they changed it up and while they are still good they're not like I remember them. Awesome restaurant. Me and my friends bike there all the time for multiple reasons. First it's just really good food but the burger is terrible to go so just eat there when you want the burger. Second of all the guys are so nice that work there and the store is nestled in the heart of Northbrook across from village green. The stores ambience is really nice too. It gives you the classic hamburger place that's quick vibes perfectly. Ive been eating at Little Louie's since I was 9 and at 37, im driving the kids there, even though we dont live in town. We check out all the photos on the wall and look for people we know. The staples like the hot dogs, burgers, and cheese fries (merkts!) have always been great. It was not until recently that I dove into their extended menu, and dannnnnnng. i recommend the dizz. and i would eat the tortilla soup every day if i could. so happy that all the same guys still work there too, and im always happily surprised when they remember me! thanks guys!! read more

Staff is super friendly on the phone and in person. They get to know everyone who walks in the doors. The environment is very diner/mom and pop feels. A lot of seating area and pictures/memorabilia on the walls. I went here off of recommendations from co workers and proximity. I don't eat hotdogs and burgers anymore so I went for the Cactus salad. Amazing! they give you a decent portion of salad mix and toppings. The container may make you feel like it's a smaller portion but it really is not. Iconic hot dog place in Northbrook. This place has been in business for decades and has a long history of memories. The food is average and there really isn't anything that makes it better that other similar places except the history. There are pictures and newspaper article covering the walls showing things from the 80's to present day - along with celebrity pics and endorsements that are interesting to peruse while eating. Don't get me wrong - there is nothing wrong with the food, or the service here - It's just that places like these are a dime-a-dozen. I can't speak on anything other than two menu items, but I was very satisfied and disagree with the bad reviews. I went with the chicken, bacon avocado speciality wrap the first time and an Italian beef with the spicy mayo the second time. They made them both quick and they were fantastic. I'm talking a go to if I was in Northbrook more than a few times a month. I'd like to try all the speciality sandwiches like the Scheyer and such. Restaurant is cool and old school vibe. read more

We used to order from here multiple times a month because my son's favorite hot dog is Little Louies' and he would constantly ask for one. The past few times we have ordered from here, my son commented that the hot dog tasted funny. The first time he had when he was just getting over being sick, so I didn't think much of it. The second time we were with my brother, who also said that his hot dog was flavorless and gray. Now my son refuses to eat from here again, which is unfortunate because I rather enjoy their veggie burger (although way overpriced) and fries. read more

I eat at Little Louies multiple times a week. Every time I come in I am greeted like family from Pete, Jose, and the rest of the staff. My Kids even feel so comfortable coming here they will go into the kitchen and high five everyone. The family friendly atmosphere cannot be matched. For your run of the mill hot dog joint, this place has a pretty vast menu. Everything from your basic cheeseburger/fries to tacos and wraps. But the place is just so outdated. I can imagine this was the place to hang out back in the 90's. Lots of memorabilia from years past all over the walls. But in this day and age, people want clean, bright, and did I mention...clean. The walls, the floors, the chairs are all sticky. The dine-in area has black plastic table cloths and black chairs all over the place and some of the black residue would even rub off on our hands. Terrible. Expensive, poor food quality and a soda which tastes like RC even though they say it is coke. A gyro, bag of fries and small soda was over $17. The fries were terrible. Small and flavorless. The gyros meat was acceptable but small chunks not slices. The gyro sauce was watery. The soda may have been RC but they said it was coke.
