Food is a little pricey for self order/self serve but it came out quick and had good flavor! We came in around 5:300pm, a lot of the meat we ordered was dry especially the brisket, I'm Not sure if it's because we were there later in the day or what, but we would definitely go back as there is not a lot of good quality barbecue in the area. Food great when they get the order right. I ordered online a they STILL pooped the bed! Ordered a featured item pastrami crispy baked pot and they didn't dress it just a potato topped w meat! I've been a fan of city barbq since your first store in columbus. I was thrilled when city bbq came to akron. you're product and service at the Fairlawn store is beyond miserable; it's pure crap, embarassingly pure crap. I drive 1/2 our each way when I order. First, was running out of ribs 3 hrs before closing is bad management. To not notify the customer by email is remiss at the least. To describe the brisket chili ( an item that I craved) as a bowl, when it is actually 4 oz. (yes I weighed it) is a pathetic rip off. And now, tonight, i return home with a dry, inedible chicken sandwich, a no brisket baked bean side, no ( that is, non-existent ) ribs as ordered, and I am now home a 1/2 hour away. city barbq used to offer a superior product. now they are bottom dwellers. I've eaten here about 20 times. Everyone here has always been friendly and nice. The food has always been good. The iced tea is best you'll find around here. Same with the barbecue. Needed dinner to go tonight, so I stopped here. I also thought to order from City BBQ because I would want leftovers for tomorrow afternoon. The portions here are BIG! I placed my order at the register, and the person working at the counter did a good job. She was helpful and friendly. It took a few minutes to receive my order, as the meat is sliced when orders are placed. I also had to wait a little bit for the cornbread to finish baking. Many sides come with the motherload, which is good because everyone in my family likes something different. It takes me 10 minutes to get home from City BBQ and the food was still hot. Food was excellent as usual . This is my preferred barbecue place for something quick that doesn't obligate you to be in a sit down restaurant . Today I tried the brisket sandwich, which was tender and flavorful and complemented by each sauce I tried it with. I can honestly say they cook as well as I do. but I don't always have 18 hours to make a beautiful brisket. It's nice that they do not put anything on your sandwich for you. You put the final touches on it to your liking. For me, the chocolate chip brownies are much too sweet, but if you don't mind having candy in your brownies, and on top of them, then go for it. It has a good chocolate flavor. I prefer the banana pudding, which seems more balanced to me, as a fussy cook. As you can see from the pictures, portions are nicely sized, and the chocolate chip cookies are respectable also. I was here during the slow period between lunch and dinner, but the tables had been cleaned and the floor had been swept and like I say no complaints there with cleanliness . Some restaurants let things slide when it's not busy, but not this one. They seem to be doing some remodeling, but despite this restaurant was clean, and there were no strange odors from construction materials. With the exception of the manager, the employees could've been a bit more cheerful and conversational ... make eye contact and smile and answer friendly small talk. But they were fast, and from what I could see, efficient. The location is easy to find, but be aware in Fairlawn It's kind of easy to miss *any* of the businesses, because they tend to have rather Discreet, small signage. That's not very tall, either! So it helps to know where the location is that you're going , to so you don't overshoot it. read more

City BBQ is on my list of establishments that I frequent on a regular basis. I enjoy walking over there and getting a great plate of BBQ on occasion. I love to grill, and I would much rather grill out and barbecue then go to a restaurant on every occasion. But let's be honest, I don't always have the energy or the time to get the smoker going and enjoy the delicious taste of barbecue that I've come to expect. Wanted some bbq. After yelp suggestions, we tried out this place. The meat quality was very good! I feel like it was a little too salty for my liking. But paired with the bacon green beans, it was a good pairing. The sweet tea is amazing! Since it was our first time being there, we were completely lost with how to place an order. The cashier wasn't friendly & seemed very impatient with us. Like sorry, we don't come here everyday and know what to order & how to do so. The inside was very clean with plenty of room. I first discovered this chain in Toledo. I really like their options for pulled pork or ribs or barbecue chicken. The corn bread is always tasty and moist. And they've got a variety of other sides you can order along with main dish. Their corn bread pudding is also very good. They take the meat out of the warmer and cut it up for your order. Visited City Barbeque last night with my kids and cousins. Looking at the menu, we decided to order The Motherload, since there were five of us and we thought we could finish eating most of it. In no time at all, the food was ready and my name was called. It took three of us to carry the trays of goodness back to our table. The sausage was really tasty, loved that. The ribs were a little burned and crunchy, but tasty nonetheless. The brisket was a little dry and it didn't have much fat, but it still had an amazing smoky flavor. The chicken was excellent! The pulled pork was also a little dry, but still, very tasty. The BBQ sauces weren't appealing to me, but the vinegar sauce was amazing. It had a bit of heat and a wonderful flavor. It went well on the pulled pork. The french fries were excellent. The potato salad was very good. The mac n cheese was very creamy and tasty, but wasn't smoked. I guess it was refreshing, in a way. The beans were just okay, nothing special. The peach cobbler was warm and amazing when topped with whipped cream. I didn't try the chocolate cake, but it looked good. I was so full by the time we were done eating. I challenged the kids to finish all the food, but it was just too much for five of us. I'm glad I visited, but relative to some of the BBQ I've had around Northeast Ohio, I would call this average. But maybe it's because not a lot of people are visiting right now and so the food might have sat around for a while or got overcooked. This has been my go to place for barbecue for over 4 years. The people who work there are so nice and the reward program is great. Today, I can't say much positive about the food. I had beef brisket and was happy that I could see my food being sliced from a fresh brisket. I watch the man slice my portion and watched him take meat off of my portion. Okay. Not a big deal except that I had a slice that was almost all fat. That he didn't notice to remove? I also had baked beans and mac and cheese. Baked beans used to have piece of brisket but now, strings of beef. Beans weren't as good as they used to be. Mac and cheese used to be cheesy. Now, very dry. This location of CB is fairly new. The ribs and pulled pork are really really good. The baked beans have chunks of brisket and have a little kick. They are also very good. The cornbread was just okay as it seemed to lack something but not sure what was missing. The have about ten different BBQ sauces but I prefer the one that has a little mustard in it. CB has a great covered patio and it was nice Update - I placed a mobile order for pickup. Everything was perfect. The CB team member walked out to my car and handed over my meals. It was a great Update- I placed a mobile order and bought two pounds of brisket, half dozen corn muffins, baked beans and Mac n cheese. Our party of 4 visited at the lunch rush on Father's Day after church. We downloaded the app prior to arriving and were pleased to receive a $5 reward to use that day. Patio seating was the option we chose and it was a beautiful day. Although we waited longer than expected for a 'fast food' establishment (25 minutes), it was well worth it. This was our 3rd-ever visit and I always forget how good it is! My husband got brisket and pulled chicken with coleslaw. I got the 3 side plate (mac n cheese, fries, side salad). The kids both got chicken tenders and fries. All delicious and it may be odd to say it but the restaurant style creamy ranch was my fav! I give this a 5 for many reasons but the main one is the attitude of the staff. They were friendly, upbeat and positive even though they were obviously slammed with to-go orders for Father's Day. No one was muttering under their breath, rolling their eyes or seemed flustered as is normally the case when it's chaotic. I normally frequent City BBQ in Cleveland, so I was excited to see one in Akron. Absolute mistake, a friend and I ordered and both of our meals were not even warm but cold. The meats that we had were very dry, mines had absolutely no flavor besides the Bbq sauce I had to use and his was heavily salted. Very odd since we both had the brisket and pulled chicken. I came here towards the end of the day. The people behind the counter were all very welcoming and accommodating still. I recommend coming earlier because towards the end of the day, many items are sold out. I ordered the ribs and pulled chicken. The ribs were so tender that they fell off the bone and were also well seasoned. The chicken was slightly dry however, dunking the pieces in the variety of sauces made it appetizing still. The sauces even though there were many flavors, all leaned towards the sweeter side. Nothing compares to homemade baked beans however, the baked beans were close. Today I made my way to city barbeque in fairview for lunch and I arrived at just after 1pm and it was not too busy either. This was my first time ever here also and I wasn't sure what to order but I decided to order the city platter which consists of beef brisket, pulled pork sausage, and turkey with two sides and I got the hush puppies and macaroni and cheese with Texas toast. I really want to like the place but the brisket and pulled pork I received was not even luke warm it was almost cold but it was still edible and the same with the turkey and the sausage was the warmest thing on my plate and it was good. The hushpuppies were warm and good and for the macaroni and cheese it kinda tasted like the ones you warm up in the microwave. The sauces I picked to have with my meal were good also but needed slot of it and chose the bourbon and brushfire sauces and in total my order came to a total of $22.61. The restaurant was nice and clean and has a nice layout for a little bit of seating but not alot. As for the service this part is meh my cashier chantel I think was her name took my order then just said OK in a tone like I don't wanna be here today tone. I'm not sure what all the hype is about city barbeque and I may just stick to my normal barbeque places from now on and maybe again in the future I will give them a second chance and if I do I'm not sure when that will happen. read more

Having never been here, I wanted to get a taste of everything. I ordered 6 ribs and the City Sampler. Total cost - $25. Ribs were on special for Tuesday. The good: surprising that the sausage was the star of the sampler. Spicy bbq sauce was also good. The ribs were better than Old Carolina but that's a low standard for me. The brisket was also Ok. I didn't really get enough of it to get a true sense of it. (That's also a bad note) and the pork was really dry. The bad: there wasn't enough food for $25. The sampler was much smaller than I anticipated. There was hardly any brisket. 1 piece of sausage, and four/half pieces of turkey.
