This is the best BBQ on the planet. I go here every other week from work with a coworker. I'd avoid the ribs and the sausage, as well as the Mac and Cheese. You'll never find better pulled pork or turkey, and the potato salad is sublime. You will absolutely not be disappointed with the pulled pork here. Everything is made to order and smoked for a lifetime on-site. The food is reasonably priced and well-portioned. The staff is helpful and quick. Chris was an amazing host. As soon as we walked in the door, he guided us to an area to help us understand the menu since it was our first visit. We were provided samples. Chris paid for our son's meal and even surprised us with dessert before we left. We cannot express enough how impressed we were with the hospitality and service. I don't think we've ever been treated so kindly in a restaurant before, even in a very expensive, fancy one. And the food! Oh my goodness, it was so delicious. Tried City Barbeque for the first time this week and we will definitely be back! My husband and I moved from North Carolina and had been looking for a good BBQ place. We were greated comming in the door that was very nice. The cashier was attentive and made sure we were aware of the new items. Then made sure we had our order correct and everything was good. The server helped me carry trays to the table. That was very helpful i would have needed to make a few trips if they didnt help out. The food was hot and melted in your mouth. I enjoy every visit. The cashier on duty helped us with ordering. We arrived the same day the new menu rolled out and was not finding "More Cowbell" on the menu. The cashier heard us say "they must not have that any more" and asked what we was wanting. We couldn't remember the name of the sandwich but when we described the ingredients she knew exactly what we was looking for. Also midway through out meal someone cleaning the dining area checked to make sure we was doing okay. I live on the NE side of Indianapolis, it's a 30 minute drive to this location. I cannot get enough of this place! I always get the brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese and corn bread. The brisket is always melt in your mouth delicious. The mac and cheese is always creamy and the corn bread is something you'd expect to find on your grandma's table. Everything is cooked beautifully and the staff is always friendly. I received a "free" Banana Pudding Parfait on my City BBQ app (not sure why but I was perfectly fine with it) so my husband and I ate dinner there tonight and ordered two of their banana pudding parfaits' (as well as dinner). I am now a HUGE fan of those parfaits! They are extremely good; just the right amount of bananas, caramel and vanilla wafers to go with the pudding and whipped topping. If you want some flavorful BBQ and a casual time, this is the place. The Pulled Pork is delicious, but they've made me a fan of Brisket. It's so amazingly good! We've done the big sampler (on our first outing) to get a little taste of everything...and it was amazing. My wife and I have been going to City BBQ for years now. They used to be an amazing little BBQ place. However they have made multiple mistakes recently. The NEW macaroni and cheese that they have is beyond terrible, the last 3 times we have went the brisket was extremely dry and the rest of the food was mediocre at best. We spent around $50 for the two of us to eat there last time and we will never go back to City BBQ again. read more

Much better experience this time out...I took home the Family Pack for lunch. Barbecue pulled pork was juicy and warm. I picked baked beans and potato salad for my sides...yum. The only reason I didn't give City BBQ a 5 star rating is because I am not a connoisseur of BBQ. But I am a former restaurant owner and I do know quality food with value, an excellent staff, with a consistent product that hasn't missed once in the dozen times I've been there. For the location on State Road 31 when you drive in the parking lot you will realize you are in for a treat as you can smell the meats smoking. That incredible smell lures you in the door. If it's your first time there let them know. They will be patient and honest with answering questions that will help make your experience appealing. They have an app that will benefit you with discounts, they are reasonably priced for the excellent quality of food. I rarely to never use BBQ sauce on my meat but they have several options of different signature sauces. I have never used anything but their original sauce. When it comes to BBQ I have always felt that if I have to cover the flavor of the food with sauce then the food isn't that great. That's not the case here. Excellent quality of food. Fast, authentic, courteous service. And great value compared to the other BBQ places in Indy. read more

Rolled in at an off peak time, was greeted by what I think was the manager. What a nice dude. He offered us some samples. I had my mind set on the chicken, which I usually order for my first visit to a new (to me) bbq joint. The brisket sample made me change my mind. I ordered the 1/2lb brisket sandwhich, with sides of the green beans and mac n cheese. The sandwhich was AWESOME! Huge. I had a few chunks of brisket on their own, then I doused the rest with their sauce (the regular stuff). The sauce..hmm, Ive had better, but it isnt horrible. The meat was delicious though. I will try the chicken next. A member of our group ordered a half a bird and it looked fan-tabulous. The green beans were GREAT, and the mac n cheese was an easy four out of five stars. Ordered take out tonight. The menu was easy to understand and very clear. I thought that the pricing was fair; I did think that the price of the sides was a little high, however once I say how big they (most) were I was pleased. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw. I did not receive the slaw on the sandwich, but was already at home so I didn't get to try any. The pulled pork was amazing. I am pretty picky when it comes to pork sandwiches and this one was truly awesome (even plain). I ordered a side of hush puppies and green beans with bacon. I was so bummed that I only got 4 hush puppies; they were amazing as well but I wish that I had more. The green beans with bacon was average. My boyfriend got the smoked chicken sandwich. It was great as well. I am glad that they source locally for the chicken. he ordered the fries and baked beans w/ brisket for his two sides. He received a TON of fries ( I was jealous ) and he said that the baked beans were good, too. For dessert I ordered a peach cobbler. The price was pretty cheap and I received a HUGE serving. The cobbler was good. The side of whipped cream was delicious. The to go specialist offered me multiples of each sauce because I told her that I had never been there and she gave me explanations of each. I thought that was very considerate. All in all the staff seemed really friendly, eager to help, and happy to be there. They made the atmosphere really inviting. It was good and I'll be back. Me and my husband visited this restaurant yesterday (he is the BBQ fan, not I) because he was in the mood for some BBQ. The atmosphere was great, and the idea of the place was great, unique for Greenwood. I enjoyed that. However, a lot of the tables are very high so sitting a small child in a highchair would be difficult. We found a low table in the back and that worked just fine. My husband ordered ribs, and I ordered chicken wings/breast. My chicken was a little dry but not bad, the macaroni and cheese was a little plain (like something you ate in high school, real..plain) the green beans were delicious and the garlic bread, if that's what it was, was more sweet than garlic. When we left my husband said they failed on the BBQ because his was dry as well, he liked the food, just not the best. I suppose if you are just not a big far of BBQ this place is good to go, because the atmosphere is quite unique and worth checking out. read more

I got the sandwich home to find out it was made for an elf. I wasn't starving so I didn't need a big sandwich, but didn't expect that size for the price. We have eaten at City BBQ in Greenwood countless times, but tonight the customer service was above and beyond anything I have encountered for a while. My family stopped in for dinner tonight, and I ordered the turkey. I was told it would be a couple extra minutes for the turkey, due to them finishing up cooking it. I said it wasn't a problem, and I didn't mind waiting. Since I was willing to wait, the manager comped the meal for me. We found a table, and the rest of our food came up. While my husband and son were starting to eat their meals, the manager comes out to our table and tells me it's going to be longer than expected on the turkey - 15 minutes or so - and would I be interested in trying the chicken instead? I said that was ok, and he told me he would bring to our table shortly. Along with bringing out my dinner, a piece of chocolate cake was also given to us. Then, the manager returned to our table with a card good for one turkey platter the next time we came in. As we were finishing up our meals, he came back over to our table to make sure I enjoyed the chicken and to find out if there was anything else he could do for us. He then chatted with us for a few minutes before we left the restaurant. I was more than happy with the fact that my meal had been comped, especially since I wasn't expecting anything along those lines, even when told the turkey was going to be longer than anticipated. One of my absolute favorite flavors to grace my mouth. I would give them a higher rating but their service is so lacking that I can't. I go there at least once a week. The food portions are hit and miss. They are good one visit and stingy the next, but I am addicted to the smoked meat and can't stay away no matter how stingy they get or how they can just act as though they've never seen you when you are a regular. Goes to say they certainly don't need anymore business than they have so their appreciation is lacking. Go here for good food, not friendly or sincere service. The dirty paper towel roll on the table is nasty as it is always stained with the many previous visitors greasy hands. Things to over look but the tongue is rewarded. read more

After my ordeal and after my initial review, I was contacted by the general manager of City Barbeque. I was finally sent some gift cards to try them out again and I am glad that I did. Love this place. It is a little expensive, but it's worth it. I buy their sweet tea by the gallon. It's not too sweet (like syrup), and you can actually taste the "tea" flavor. The banana pudding is excellent. If you like bread, I recommend the Texas Toast option! And I LOVE that they participate in "Food Rescue". ((The program works because volunteers pick up excess food from restaurants and other businesses and then, following strict food safety guidelines, delivers that food to hungry children and families across the city. I ordered the Judge's Sampler with 1/4 white meat chicken, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, potato salad, and green beans, Texas toast, and cornbread. As usual, it was delicious! The service was good, and the man preparing and packing my order was so friendly and helpful! He made sure everything was correct in my order, and that I got my favorite BBQ sauces to go. Online ordering was fast and easy. Inside was clean, looked to be well organized, and pretty busy on a Sunday. Food was ready to go, except the french fries. They actually made those to order! No nasty soggy fries from the warmer here. The girl behind the carry out counter was incredibly nice, and very helpful. When she asked what type of sauce I wanted, she noticed my hesitation (from having never been there), so she just gave me 2 of each type. The food was fantastic. I can't stress enough how much better than any of the other chain style BBQ places this was. Overall, the whole experience from ordering, to pick up, to consumption, was fantastic.
