Let me start with a positive. Sunday Dec 8, after the Bengals game we stopped here and had a great meal, 5 stars. I eat at this City rather often. Today, the wife and I stop in for lunch. She orders a turkey sandwich and fries. I order a two meal two sides. We both get water. She immediately notices, " is this a kids meal?" . Small sandwich and a very small servicing of fries. She gets this same meal often. Today's was a 2/3 scale meal. So my meal, I get 3 ribs. One tiny mini rib, one tiny almost inedible end piece that was tough as shoe leather. And a 3rd rib, small but good. I complained and they gave me a 4th rib, sort of small like my number 3. The turkey, my second meat, was a small portion also. My sides were good. $32.87 for 2 smallish margin meals. There are many other options around here. read more

Hate to do updates that aren't great but our past three experiences haven't been so good with city bbq. We typically order several times a month and this time was the worst. We ordered two of the new PIT MASTER NACHOS, two buffalo chicken dips, an extra bag of chips a large hush puppy and a pint of Lowco sauce. For the good portion- the buffalo chicken dip is great, as is their pulled chicken that comes with the nachos. The pickles onion is great also. For the not good portion: We were missing the picos, the hush puppies were burnt, so hard and we had fries snd burnt bits in the basket. The worst: The queso's. They were so bad- and we've always liked them. These were burnt, congealed and gritty. Even with us slow heating them- they were just so over done they wouldn't melt into dip. They were inedible. Please see the pictures. A one of, a two of... maybe.. but now this is the third time. We called and they took a message for someone to call us back- they were busy. We just wanted them remade and to have them redelivered or we could come exchange. They weren't sure how to do it with an app order. They also told me that the dip is supposed to be dark. It really isn't- we've had it before and it's certainly not supposed to be congealed, nearly brown and gritty. It was just gross and I cannot understand why they would send these out to a customer- knowing they weren't right. I would prefer to wait or be told you're out of something and to choose something else- than be given something inedible. We received this order before the game at 1pm. It's now 8:15pm and no one called us back. We ended up ordering queso elsewhere so we could have it for the game. read more

So I've been going to city BBQ for about 15 years or at least since they opened in voice of America. I have never had a worse experience than tonight. Normal restaurant atmosphere but I got it to go as that seems to be what people are doing. I've never had so much grease in my life seep from the bag. It was completely indesible. Mac and cheese had a most of grease around the entirety of it. The French fries looked like they were stilll being fried. Visible grease coming off. And the cornbread side was literally dripping grease out of it. Tossed the whole meal. Won't be back. read more

We have been here many times but I wonder why. Place could be cleaner even though staff was sweeping under tables. The booth we sat in, I felt like I needed a booster seat as it sat low...perhaps used a lot and broken down. Sandwiches should also come with a plate because you are eating off the table and napkins. Thank goodness I had hand sanitizer to clean the table. My husband ordered the city sampler and was told he could substitute the sausage for chicken but that is not what he got. Normally fantastic but food quality and service seems to have taken a dive in our last three visits. With only one table occupied in the entire restaurant and only two customers in line to order, service at the counter was very slow and most all of the booths had dirty tables. We tried to order some Turkey by the pound, but they were out of it already. We then ordered some brisket by the pound ($26/lb) and the meat had a lot of fat content and lots of bits and pieces. For that price I would expect some nicely sliced high quality brisket, not something you might try to hide in a sandwich. For years there's been a Hispanic guy carving up the meat and we've always gotten very good quality meat - haven't seen him around lately. My wife spoke to the manager but to no avail. Wanted to try the Nashville Hot Tenders & Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. We also ordered Mac & cheese, green beans & hushpuppies. Tenders were hot & fresh but there's no Nashville Hot seasoning in the breading. It's just a salty, hot seasoning sprinkled on top of the tenders. Mac& cheese was just ok. Green beans were good. Got take out during the covid-19 and we shared the turkey pulled pork corn pudding corn muffin. It was all very good no problems. The turkey is always excellent juicy not too dry nothing needs to be trimmed or picked off. The fork there's always something in there that I won't eat so I have to be very careful with the pork but I'm picky. read more

We have been City Barbecue customers since the West Chester location opened. It is my favorite place to go for barbecue and ribs. We have eaten there for lunch and dinner. We have brought groups of friends there, we have had a fundraising event there for our non-profit organization, and I have ordered large orders to go for a group of 50 people. I have always been VERY happy with the quality of food, fast service and friendly staff. Moving ahead to today: My husband asked me where I would like to go to eat, mentioning a couple of steakhouses. I chose CityBarbeque. We arrived about 3:30 pm (Sunday, July 3) and there were only two tables occupied. We ordered our food, got our drinks, and got settled at a table. I went to look for a bottle of barbecue sauce to use on my ribs. When I arrived at the bottles, there was sauce EVERYWHERE! Every bottle had sauce dripping down the sides. A young man agreed that it was a mess and that he would clean it all up. I sat back down. At this point, I think we must have waited for about 10-12 minutes for our food, which doesn't sound a lot, but in the past, by the time we have our drinks they are calling out my name that our food is ready. They were very busy preparing a lot of take-out meals. I picked up our food and sat down. My husband had the pulled pork (naked), which was barely lukewarm. My corn pudding was cooler than lukewarm. My 1/2 slab of ribs were definitely less than par. They were very thin, dried out with hardly any meat. I picked on two of them which were very chewy and dry. I brought the rest home thinking that at least I can warm the corn pudding up. I'm not one to complain and since the counter was extremely busy, I didn't say anything. I was hoping that a Manager would come around to the tables, which has happened many times in the past. I will not abandon City Barbecue at this time. I will chalk this up to, "They were having a bad day". I just hope that they read my review so that some changes can be made back to what we are used too. read more

Pretty good barbecue, my brisket was very tender it had a lot of meat a little bit of fat but not a lot there's a good smoke on the meat. The greens are OK, I've had better but they are not bad,the ribs are tender and the fries were good and crispy. The sauces are good also, The barbecue sauce and honey mustard sauce are the ones I've tried. Restaurant was clean and the girls are very helpful and nice at the front taking your order. read more

I was a little worried when I walked in and there was no line on a Friday night. Immediately the nice man at the register asked if he could help me. I was interested in a sandwich and asked about the swine wine. He said the lolos pulled pork sandwich was really good. I tried it and he was right! The young man and woman putting my food together really seemed like they enjoyed their job and were generous with their smiles. It made my day better in the short time I was in the place. Love the food. It's a five in my book but I have a pet peeve. They close at 9pm yet at 830 they are emptying the tea and lemonade. This is not good customer service. If you want to start closing 30 minutes early then change your sign to close earlier. Also pay your staff 30 minutes less. Remember without the customer there is no business. read more

Have eaten here at least 15 or 20 times and it is always great. The ribs are meaty and tender with a choice of sauces. I usually get sides of potato salad, baked beans and corn bread. This is specific to the West Chester location. Ive ordered delivery from the mobile app twice and ive placed it choosing the Blue Ash location, but when the order is submitted, its coming from the West Chester location, the first time i ordered, i got the brisket sandwich on texas toast with an order of brisket chilli, the brisket was so dry and chewy. Nothing like the Blue Ash location. Today I ordered their new Corned Beef sandwich. There was hardly any meat. Basically just 4 small, dry and chewy pieces. The sandwich was cold, but not because of delivery time. But Because of ridiculous amount of cole slaw that was put on the sandwich that not only made the corned beef cold, but it also overpowered the entire sandwich. (can I get a cole slaw sandwich and add corned beef, like you would add bacon?). I also ordered the brisket chilli, which was inedible. The brisket, once again incredibly dry and chewy (in a chilli? Really?). On top of that, it was so salty, it made me feel sick after just a couple bites, I just threw it away. I stopped ordering from the West Chester location a few years ago, because of how incredibly inconsistent their food was. And twice now. Successful franchise BBQ. The meat and sides always come out hot and tender. Usually menu items of ribs, chicken, brisket and smoked sausage. The sides are good, but not your mama's cooking. I find myself topping the sides with bbq sauce. Ordering - I've found that I only like ordering from the lunch menu for the combos and attractive pricing. Line/Wait - The entrance way can be a bit congested while waiting to order. But the line typically moves fast and the food is usually ready by the time I gather my sauces. Toppings - Variety of six or more sauce types available, some are even kept warm. Beyond a basic sauce you can find sweet, spicy, mustard and bourbon. read more

Second the staff / servers are pleasant, friendly professional. And finally the business is owned by veterans. Convenient location at a mall complex, for some pretty decent southern BBQ in a cool decor'd setting. They have a ton of sauces and they're all really good (original...bourbon..) Brisket was a lot less exciting than the ribs, ribs was definitely pretty good. The food is good tasting, but cost a lot of money. You can imagine my disappointment at the tiny, dinky cup of cheese and sour cream they gave me to go with my chili I bought from there. The food there cost too much to be slighted in the shredded cheese and sour cream they gave with it. Sad and mad . I won't be getting my food from there anymore. Whoa! Let's do this place differently than I've done before because it's in a league of its own! I open the door to city barbecue and get hit in the nose with the delicious smells of cooked meat and bbq! Yum! I walk up and I'm greeted by a very nice smiling face! I explain to her it's my first time being here and she immediately goes over the "best items". She then hands me a welcome first timer gift bag with coupons, there famous dry rub and lots of other goodies (this is so cool and a first for me ever at any restaurant). I notice there is a cool looking desert item off to the side and ask what it is. The lady says banana pudding and hands me one. She's says it's on the House! (Awesome!!) I place my order - pulled pork, corn pudding, and potatoe salad - and walk around the restaurant. Killer southern bbq atmosphere everywhere. Huge sauce rack with 8 different bbq sauces. Fresh lemonade, sweet teas and sodas. Seeing all great things from every angle. They call my order in about 3 min and I walk up to counter. There waiting for me is my order and 8 additional side items! The lady says here some free samples so you can try everything. I'm completely blown away. The customer service in this place goes above and beyond any restaurant I've ever been too. Incredible. Everything they gave was really good. The entire time I've been eating there is a line of take out orders. Bags and bags of food are leaving constantly. I can totally see why. Everything is great about this place. I could not be happier. I told the manager how impressed I was and he ask which side I like the most. I said I really enjoyed the gumbo (of all things). So my meal was 10 Dollar's. I received 10 side dishes, pulled pork sandwich, and a desert. Again this is incredible. To make things even better as I leave one of the employees brings me a free side of gumbo to take home. I ordered the sampler with chicken thigh and a sausage. Neither was in the delivery. I got some turkey and looks like pulled chicken. I picked the items I ordered, because I wanted those and not a "pick whatever you want, CityBBQ employee" order. In addition to this, the only thing that was warm when it was delivered was the Hush Puppies, the rest was ice cold. This is the second time in a row that this restaurant messed up my order.
