They're on Untappd. 18 rapidly rotating taps of local and regional craft beers. Pours run around $10-13, which is decent. We've stopped by from around Grand Central Terminal for a quick pint (or more likely small pours of niche high-end NE IPAs) on many occasions now. The bartenders are knowledgeable. A kitchen serves sandwiches and bar snacks too, but we've never tried. Also a fridge wall stocked with an enormous curated variety of cans and bottles. Literal hundreds. read more

Of all the beer bars I stopped in during my NYC trip this is probably my favorite. It's a nice bright space with both fantastic. beer and some proper bar food to pad those Messorem mega stouts. The bartender was really friendly and even gave me a decent sized tasting pour. I went around lunch and it seems like there are a lot of regulars who pop in for a beer and a bite before heading home or during their breaks. The venue uses Untappd.com so you can track what beers they have and when they add new ones. I definitely recommend stopping in if you get the chance. read more

The first beer bar I stopped at in New York City was City Beer. Mostly because I was looking for a place that had Messorem on draft and had beer to go. City Beer checked both of those boxes. Cozy beer bar with a ton of options and great service! Happened to stumble upon it randomly while looking for bars on the east side and I'm so glad I made the stop. Angel was my server and he was amazing! Super efficient and very sweet, he gave me a couple of recommendations based on my preferences and brought along a few samples for me to try. There's limited seating inside but they have ample tables outdoor. I think you can also just walk in and purchase whatever beers you want to go. Do they have a great selection of not only beers on draft but also bottles and cans to take home? Yes. Is it ridiculously expensive? Also yes. $14 for a 12oz pour just seems too steep. Wanted to grab 4-6 beers to bring home. Only ended up grabbing two because they were $9.50 and $10 for a 16oz IPA. I come to New York at least once a year for work, if not more and always try and find the best craft beer bars. Not sure I'll be revisiting this particular place. They have outdoor dining which was what made us stop here for some drinks. The outdoor space has heaters and separates different groups which was nice. Tons of beer selection both bottles/cans and draft. They had gluten free beer which was nice. If we wanted to drink we had to order a food item so we got the Red Devil. Said it came with chips and cornichons but in reality it was just a handful of chips (willing to overlook that). In total we got 6 beers, 4 drafts and 2 cans. No real complaints until I saw the itemized receipt today. I was charged a $2 corkage fee TWICE so total of $4 (assuming for the 2 beer cans). 1. There was no signage about this charge posted anywhere in the store or menu! 2. It was beer cans not wine and we opened the beer cans ourselves. They didn't even open it. 3. We bought the cans at the store. 4. They didn't even tell us. I found out when I looked at my receipt. Literally a scam! There's another person who mentioned this scam. I came here with my bf and we ordered melts and a few beers. The melts are advertised on the menu to come with chips and cornichons, but when it arrived there was a handful of popcorn and no cornichons. Honestly for $14+ grilled cheeses we were pretty disappointed, though the sandwich itself was tasty. I guess the bar is already pretty high when it's priced like that lol. The waiter did bring a small plate with some chips after I pointed it out (which I appreciate!) but overall I would not recommend spending your money on that menu item. Wandered into this small bar/shop on a Saturday late afternoon to kill some time. Brand new, modern interior with fridges for bottled beer up front and a bar setup at the back to try the draughts. Menu is extensive but considerably pricey - $10-13 for a ten ounce pour, with a couple of exceptions. In lieu of the draft-list pricing, I settled on a can instead ($7 + $2 corkage fee - 16oz.) Bartender supplied a glass and I was able to enjoy the brew for the duration of my stay without being bothered. There are some snacks/other goodies for sale if drinking a lot. City Beer is the newest beer bar on my list - and it has rocketed to my #1 beer spot in midtown. Beers. On. Tap. There are nearly 20 to choose from, a number of them being hyperlocal selections from breweries just a few miles away. The taps are always rotating, so while I've seen some heavy hitters on the list, I always take my time ordering because there's always something new to consider. The bartenders are great; I can describe a taste profile and they always have a great suggestion, and always offer a small taste to make sure. I'm a sucker for a cloudy yellow IPA, and I can usually find at least two on the menu. Lately it's been a selection from Other Half in Brooklyn, one of my go-to breweries that side of the East River. There's a small menu from a kitchen that I've never seen, but the food they are putting out is insane. GET the grilled cheese, and GET the hummus. Honestly. Well, if you're there long enough sipping on delicious IPAs you're going to smell them press the sandwiches right behind the bar, which will make it even harder for you not to get one. In a rush? There's a wall of coolers with plenty of cans and bottles to choose from - buy one and stay, buy one and take it home. Either way, you can't go wrong. I had some time to kill waiting for a friend to get out of surgery the other week and popped in. Honestly, I noticed it initially when I was checking google maps to see how far away I was at like 10 in the morning and wondering to myself 'why, what is City Beer?!' Came back around 5pm later lol. Anyway, it started massively pouring was half the reason and I sought sanctuary. The food here legitimately smells great and I think its mostly gourmet sandwiches. The beer - a bit pricey but it's Midtown and these beer shops always have corking fees. But it's rough when you purchase a $4-5 can and it turns into $8-9. Anyway, they had a dunkaroo's flavored milk stout that was HEAVENLY. Even the bartender paused and was like 'wow, this really smells like the snack'. It was amazing. The atmosphere was cozy. People were still sitting outside under the roofed enclosure in the monsoon biblical-like flooding rain. No idea why. Felt bad because I guess the bartender had to go outside to serve them at points in it. But I'd totally come back when in the area. read more

Definitely one of the number one craft beer stores in manhattan. They have a lot of rare beers and some harder to get draft beer like Hudson valley and other half. Staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. They have the fridges separated out by styles, and prices were very fair for everything. They had some really nice stuff on draft and thanks to corona, they were allowed to sell pints and crowlers of some beer they normally only sold in-store. I did not try the food, but I hope they can survive this current climate and I will be sure to pay them more visits to try some great beer and their food. read more

A stellar shop worth checking out for the NYC craft beer enthusiast. The beer selection is solid, and includes quite a few rarities from NYC breweries and places further out. They do cans, bottles, or crowlers to go (what we've done), or have an outdoor space for hanging out on site with self-serve counter service. The prices are fairly reasonable *by NYC standards*, from $6-8 for most cans up to $12-13 for harder-to-find, out-of-production stuff. They also have many draft options to choose from. Everything rotates. The staff is always very accommodating throughout the many years I've been enjoying this place. Angel, who is the manager, is of the most legit people I've met in the craft beer space. You'll find suits enjoying a pint or two after work from a nearby office just as much as you'll find actual locals who live in the neighborhood stopping by to say hello. I am a regular here. This is so far, the bottle shop with the best selection of incredibly high quality beer. They have an outdoor dining setup that is cozy, private, and warm. The beer is expensive but it's comparable to any other place selling high quality beer. They make grilled cheese in house for snacking and I thought it was just-okay (which is the reason for 4 stars), but everything else is 5 stars. Love going here on a weekday afternoon to read or do some work on my computer when it's not crowded, and have a nice beer. read more

Attempted to come on Thursday of last week in the evening. Whoever the staff member working was was was so rude over and over again I was honestly shocked and so sad. Right outside the door are" tables" that are barrels with stools. My friend was suggesting to me that maybe we could sit there when he first walked by and must have overheard our conversation and says "you cant that table is for these people" but then he sat that group at a long table with a heater. We followed him inside and my friend said to him that we were actually inquiring about the barrel table and if we could sit there! "Barrel??? What barrel??" He said in the rudest voice not even looking at my friend. We are clearly confused and point to the "table" that is legit a barrel and he goes "oh yeah, fine" Sat outside for 5-7 minutes without menus while he walked by again and again not making any eye contact. We decided to order food to go elsewhere and that we would come back and get beers to go. Come back about 20 minutes later and are checking out all the fun beers. My friend goes back to grumpy staff member to ask which his favorite beer is and if he could possibly suggest some fan favorites. "There's over 600 beers here, I don't have any to suggest" he says without looking up again. When it came time to check out he ignored us again but was just standing in front of the card reader not doing anything. Finally, he took a deep breath (like the loud annoyed breath you want people to know you are annoyed) and checked us out. I live very close to this place and my friends know how much I've wanted to check it out and I am so sad because I don't know how you could be so rude to two happy people just looking for a drink at 6pm on a Thursday. Giving it 2 stars because the three beers we ended up choosing ourselves were delicious! read more
