Came here for the Seinfeld IQ trivia event last Friday. They had the tables at the back of the 1st floor reserved for this. We got there around 6:40 pm for trivia starting at 7 pm. They did not have enough service to accommodate the event. We had to wait a while for service upon being seated, and throughout the night we were constantly flagging people down to help us. They would bring out food with no utensils, no plates, no napkins, several times. Our waiter would forget drinks or the waters that we requested. Despite the poor service, we had an auto 22% gratuity added to our bill without our knowledge. There's also a 4% service fee. The food here is pretty terrible. Ordered the midtown combo platter - not very appetizing looking or tasting: the wings were dry, the curly fries were curly crumbs - maybe 3 pieces were actually long enough to be 'curled;' 3 mozz sticks. Just all-around gross. We also got an order of the jalapeno poppers - they smelt like dirty, wet socks and tasted just as bad. Glad we didn't waste our money on anything further from the menu. It was also very warm inside. The trivia was a lot of fun, but that's the only good thing about this place...I would not come back here again without a compelling reason to. read more

Our waitress was not familiar with the beers on the menu, brought a watered down coke, and kept trying to talk to us the same time when the trivia guy was reading the questions. The Buffalo deep fried cajun hot wings were definitely memorable. The flavor was ridiculous (that's a compliment). 4 stars because the margaritas on the rocks were light weight for pubs in this area. Slattery's is a no frills kind of pub. They have a small menu with a mixture of American-Irish classics and pub fare. The prices are in tune with the area but the hospitality is above average. Usually we make a stop here if we are on our way home from the city and are waiting for express bus. Ive met a few staff but Mike is our favorite so far. Every staff member we have interacted with has been great but we just know Mike the most from seeing him more often. They have any drink you could want and the beers are nice and cold. Thats very important to mention because some places literally never clean their lines or have the right temperature. The pace has two floors and is a sports bar. They sent out a pork sandwich with a sweet almost Kansas City style sauce. Sugar shouldn't be anywhere near this thing. Very disappointing. I absolutely love this bar! The Foundation decided to host our holiday party here and it was the best decision. We booked a 2.5 hour party and most guests stayed more than 4 hours, including myself. To quote the Pres/CEO of the Foundation, "I stayed until 8:30 - one hour past its scheduled end - and there were still plenty of us hanging out. That's the surest sign that people are having fun!" So many of the staff felt the same. We booked the downstairs level for 40 guests and filled the space comfortably with room to spare. Not a single person complained about waiting for a drink. That Claire really is amazing. The catering staff was on point. We had most of the appetizers offered. The platters flowed continuously and everything tasted great. I love me some good bar/finger food. I even got a take-home bowl :). Working with John Slattery was awesome. He worked with my budget and was very accommodating at every turn. Brought a crowd of friends over to Slatterys before a Tar Heels game in New York City. Walked over to grab a couple blue cups and eat a meal before the game. We made some reservations just in case we had a hard time getting a table as this is a popular UNC destination before games. We were seated upstairs and our orders were promptly taken. We did not have much time to spare so I was a little worried with service since the place was packed! Fear not, food came out maybe 10 mins after we placed our order, amazing!! More amazing is the UNC themed menu they have on game days. I ordered the Ol' Roy's Still Perfect Burger, was cooked beautifully, can say the same for the fries as well, very generous portions. My wife got the Four Corners Club Sandwich which she was a fan of as well, noted the avocado portion as great. Our friends got some of the Mack Brown BBQ Chicken Fingers and were thrilled with their decision. This place is a must visit not only for the atmosphere but for the food as well. I have been to Slattery's for some work related events in the past, but tonight I came for trivia. As those were corporate events they had one or two people assigned to your area, and they were friendly; however, on the two occasions I came in on my own, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The bar itself is two levels--they use the upstairs area for trivia, the downstairs area is where the work events were held. I don't think the staff is mean, but they sure aren't very welcoming either. As these blocks are filled with bars, I would think they would always want their staff to be friendly because their competition everywhere. Nonetheless, I had some bar eats while trivia was going on. The fries were standard, as were the mozzarella sticks, but I ordered the french pizza bread, that wasn't so good. In short, I'd return here if my vendor opts to utilize this place again for their annual get togethers and if Trivia AD has their trivia nights here, but other than that, I would t return. read more

What an amazing place! Went to a reception here this past weekend, I believe the second floor was rented out specifically, and wow! All of the staff were so welcoming and nice. The service was also fantastic. The food that was being given out was delicious and honestly made rounds more often than I've ever seen at a place. This was my first visit to Slattery's and probably my last. We came for Friends trivia night with the expectation of having good food, drinks and a fun time. That didn't happen. We made are way to the top floor where the trivia was scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. We were one of the first groups to arrive so we were able to put in an order before the rush. I ordered an appetizer combo to start and an Avocado BLT Sandwich. The menu was pretty limited with typical bar menu choices (wings, burgers, fries and other greasy options). The appetizer sampler arrived about 10 minutes after ordering which was a little suspicious. If the wings were made fresh to order they would have taken longer to prepare. That point aside, the sampler was okay nothing spectacular to write home about. The restaurant began to fill up at this point and the trivia kicked in about 20 minutes after 8 p.m. it quickly spiraled downhill. Other trivia players shouted out answers, yelled and talked so loudly we could not hear the questions being read out by the host and an hour in my BLT still had not arrived. The waiters seemed overwhelmed and could not keep up with the crowd. We asked for water 3 times before the waitress finally fulfilled our request. Close to 9 p.m my sandwich arrived which I refused because it had taken far too long and I lost my appetite. I was so annoyed and let down by the experience I just wanted to leave. This is not a location I would consider visiting again based on the limited menu options, the service and the general atmosphere on trivia night. I left hungry for better food and wishing I had gone somewhere else. read more
