Walked in on a Tuesday morning to see if City Bloom Florist could make an arrangement the same day. I found out my coworker's sister had passed away and wanted to give her sympathy flowers. The owner, Dan, seemed to be really busy with orders but was extremely kind and helpful! I said I could come back in a few hours since I was asking for a same day arrangement, but he said he didn't want me to have to wait, because he had to leave the store later to deliver some flowers. What a nice guy! In less than 30 minutes he had a beautiful arrangement made in my requested price range! I will definitely support this business again and I recommend you do, too! read more

City Bloom Florist in Civic Center Plaza is obviously a florist but it looked different from the usual floral stands. they had trinket or ornaments of sorts on display. there's also greeting cards that could accompany the cards. i just glanced from the outside, not going in to touch anything, a dog on a lease came out to greet me. with just a sniff, he /she judged me acceptable and went back to lay down in her resting place. all done without a sound. the pics of floral on the website looked dazzling. while i'm not a fan of buying flowers. This is a long overdue review of an awesome small business. I walk by their shop frequently and admire their lovely arrangements. A few months ago, I got flowers for my co-worker's birthday. I dropped in without an appointment in the early morning and requested a special arrangement. However, I'm on a budget and spending a huge amount on flowers didn't appeal to me. I told the florist, who was very nice, to use about $20 worth of flowers. He asked if I wanted any flowers with scents and I said no, since they will be in an office setting. How thoughtful! I also mentioned my co-worker will be taking the BART back home and he made the arrangement shorter and even packaged the whole thing in a nifty paper wrapped box! When he finished, he asked if it was okay or if I wanted to add more flowers for an additional cost. It only took a few minutes and it really was beautiful. My co-worker, who spends money on flowers even if she doesn't have money for food, absolutely loved it. The design was colorful and the flowers were quite unique...not the typical stuff from the supermarket. My photo in our awful fluorescent lighting doesn't do it justice. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with this florist. The flowers died the next day and when I called to let them know, they were unapologetic. Instead they blamed me for not enough water in the vase and the stems being improperly cut. BUT I BOUGHT THE FLOWERS ALREADY CUT AND IN WATER! She also told me I should not have the flowers in front of a window. Lol. In the end she offered "a couple Lillie's". Poor customer service and a bad product. The owner/head florist is one of those people that you can tell what you have in mind and then he can quickly put it together. The staff are professional and courteous. As far as prices are concerned, they seem on par for with any other nice shop located in a central business district; in other words, they are not inexpensive but they are not overpriced either. They always remember me by name, remember what I like and what I don't, and genuinely care about their customers. When I got my mother a surprise bouquet from them, she decided to start surprising me with City Bloom bouquets. The first time she called them, they remembered me and knew exactly what to prepare. They designed a wonderful and extraordinarily fragrant bouquet for my birthday. Not only was the bouquet amazing....but they also personally came and sang me Happy Birthday per my mother's request. (thanks for making me turn bright red in the office mom:)!) Recently, I was surprised with a bouquet that was the most radiant I have ever seen. Everyone who saw it stopped to comment...on the bus, in the elevator, on the street...the thing was amazing! The colors were so unique and fresh. First, the arrangements here are amazing. When I went in, there were many modern arrangements that had much more finesse and style than your average grocery store bouquet, as well as some well-executed, simpler bouquets. They have an eye for color, here, with harmonious palettes and the good sense not to throw the kitchen sink at every vase. I normally find bright colors ugly, but I'd rate City Bloom's bright bouquets as not for me, but still very attractive, which is saying something. I picked up a bouquet for my assistant at 5:15 pm (just 15 minutes before closing) the day before Administrative Assistant's Day. Since I'd left it to the last minute, I had to pick something ready-made and on my budget of $25 or so. They had a few nice options, and I picked one, a $15 arrangement, and at my request, they "beefed it up" a little for another $10. I don't normally go in for flowers (amputated sex organs, anyone?) but I actually quite like these. I couldn't name all of what's in it, but it does have a lovely, subdued scent that is pleasant, rather than eye-watering. Word of advice: the arrangements on the website seem more routine than the ones I saw in the shop. If you have a chance, go to the storefront and pick out something in person. The employees are fun, get my sense of humor, and act like real people instead of customer-service automatons which get unplugged at the end of the day. read more

I'm very happy to support this local business. If your idea of a floral arrangement is roses and baby's breath, get ready to be blown away! The stock Teleflora offerings on their website do them no justice. CityBloom really excels in making unique arrangements with greens and flowers that you won't see in any catalog. I used them for two occasions where I wanted to impress (boyfriend's mother's birthday, and my own mother's birthday) and one occasion where I wanted to be impressed (bookmarked their website in my boyfriend's browser for my birthday). They create really wonderful arrangements with very little direction. ("Uh, it's for a birthday - I'm thinking $50, and maybe pink, or orange, or... you know... whatever.") It just looks so much more thoughtful and interesting than a mass-produced catalog arrangement. One word of non-praise: I don't think the $12+ chocolate add-on is worth it. I ended up with 4 bars of assorted Toblerones - I love nougat as much as the next person, but it didn't quite compliment the beauty of the arrangement. Either add that extra $ into the arrangement or just leave it as it is. Trust me, the flowers speak for themselves! read more
