I was hesitant to go here, and more skeptical to take my boyfriend, but we ended up enjoying it! The sushi was not bad and fresh. Lots to chips from. The cooked food was decent. I enjoyed the chicken on the stick, the orange chicken, lo mein and fried rice to mention a few. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for the Mongolian type grill. We were too busy trying items from the huge buffet and of course needed to save room for dessert. Many options of fruit, cakes, and Ice cream! The staff didn't know much English as others have mentioned BUT they were attentive enough. Not overly, but they were around to take dirty plates and refill glasses. I would go again. read more

Terrible. Non-Asians don't get the concept of how to hibachi. Everything is over chopped so small you can't eat it with chopsticks. Overcooked...it was sad. This should be the flagship of the buffet. All of the waitresses were sitting down during rush hour with a 3 gallon pot of soup on their table and totally ignoring the customers. No drink refills & soiled dishes piling up on the tables. Sorry I have to rate this restaurant a 1 star due to ALL the food are sooooooooooo SALTY! Went here with the family today on a Sunday dinner time. People who posted snow crab legs that they have here at the restaurant are years ago, they don't have it here anymore, so don't waste your money and come here to eat very highly salted food and there aren't any good food here either. I usually don't drink a lot of water when I eat, but when I eat here, just finished with one plate of food, I finished my cup of water as well. As I write this review right now, my mouth still felt dry and had been drinking lots and lots of water. My family and I like to explore different restaurant and we find that this buffet is the WORST! My husband only find the ice cream is good here (of course all the buffet restaurant ice cream are the same, but yet, all the food are salty and nasty, he find ice cream here are the only one that's good). read more

This place is great for the price. You get a full buffet with sushi, salad, rice, noodles and various type of chinese chicken, beef and seafood dishes and even hibachi grill service. The staff was friendly and came the table several times to check on us. Definitely will be back. read more

Stopped by here after being diverted off I-4 on my way to Tampa. I actually really like the idea of paying before I sat down so I didn't have to worry about waiting for a waiter at a buffet to come and take my check and whatnot. This is a moderate buffet. The service could've been better because they never give refills unless you track them down. Some of the food is dried out and old. The sushi is delicious but sometimes slow to put out new rolls so the sushi bar ends up looking quite empty. Other than that the food is good, but the waitresses should be more pleasant and smile more. read more

Good price if you get here before 3.00. Only 9.99 includes drink. Like most buffets, some things good others not. The sweet tea was very good, so was the sushi selection. The egg drop soup also good. A decent but small Mongolian grill is your best bet. Most other items were old and lukewarm. read more

I was driving back north on I-75 and was starving so I decided to search out City Buffet based on friends' reviews. It's located on MLK, a couple miles east of the I-75 exit in the Winn-Dixie plaza. You pay when you first enter the restaurant. It was $13.99 that night and came with a drink. They have Coke products. I asked how I could tip and they are able to charge your card and give you cash back to leave at the table. You get a receipt and slip that is placed on your table. You're supposed to flip it over when you're done to indicate you're leaving. The restaurant is really spacious and clean. The buffet was a little underwhelming to me but the variety was good. The servers were very attentive for drink refills. The manager also walked around a lot and took plates, get refills, and even man the hibachi grill. The sushi bar is impressive and large and even had sashimi. You can see the sushi chefs making the rolls fresh. There were also crab legs, although not the best I've had but they had plenty to go around and people didn't have to fight for them. There was a salad bar, fruit bar, dessert table, soft serve ice cream machine, and 3 hot food tables. Also a sauce and utensil station in the middle. Nothing really stood out but the food was good. The quality of the food was better than average and there was more attention to details especially with sauces and condiments. My favorite was the hibachi station that I frequented 3 times. I was disappointed to see that they didn't have the steak or shrimp skewers mentioned by Boon C. but there was pork steak/chop that night. I got one plate with scrambled eggs and the pork steak, then 2 more plates with sautéed shrimp. You can add in your own seasoning including black pepper, cilantro oil mixture, garlic paste, ginger paste, and hot oil. You also have a choice of sauces but I choose just butter. The decor is typical Chinese buffet but there was an nice fish pond in the back with koi fish. At the end of my meal, I went to the restroom and when I came back, they had already cleared my table and took away my drink! I didn't flip over the slip so I was slightly confused. The server kept asking me if I was still eating and flabbergasted, I just responded I guess not anymore even though I did want to sip my Sprite some more. I awkwardly grabbed some ones out of my purse to leave a tip and then hastily left. Overall, I definitely got my money's worth and the food quality was higher. However since it's so out of the way for me, I probably would not make a special trip. read more

I was a little nervous walking in the door especially when they wanted me to pay first before we sat down to our table. Upon looking at the food I noticed everything was pretty much fresh. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that we went within an hour after opening time on a Sunday, but the food was hot and fresh. Now on to the sushi. I read the reviews, looked at the pictures and decided that maybe the Tampa area finally had a good and decent Chinese restaurant! Boy, was I in for a surprise. In this case, it was one of those bad surprises. I've been hearing both good and bad things about this new buffet and was actually excited to go check it out. I even brought my family from out of town to try this place with me. Regrets, regret, regrets. It's a little different here at this buffet, you pay first and then you are seated. Lady who was at the register was on her phone non-stop and didn't notice we were up at the desk until I said something. Nonetheless, the meal needed to continue on. Price per person for dinner was $12.95 -- this INCLUDES a drink so do take advantage but they don't tell you that. I get the usual; rice, lomein, black pepper steak, teriyaki chicken and a slice of pizza. First bite of lomein was kind of unusual so I take another to realize that they put ginger in their lomein. I have never eaten at any Chinese restaurant or take-out that has ever put ginger in their lomein and I must tell you, it was not good at all. The pepper steak was ALSO not good, they cook the steak separately from the vegetable (including asparagus for who know whatever reason why) and it was just dry. Teriyaki chicken was cook and I got mushroom beef which was good but that was about it. Oh, the pizza was good! Surprisingly good. We never got refills until the end of the night despite it being an okay night -- not busy, not dead. Even when we asked the server for a refill, she replied with "Just hold on, okay" but never came back to refill it until we were about to leave. It was a 10-15 minute wait before we asked her too in case she was busy but she wasn't. This experience was not only bad because they couldn't get the main dishes right but it was horrible because I took my family who came to visit me here and was very disappointed that I could've taken them somewhere much more better for the price. My advice for this place: Stay far away or I'll have the chance to say "Told you so". read more

I am very glad so many were happy. I found few things actually WRONG about the place and it is sparkling clean and modern looking, but unless you are into crab legs, sushi and the Mongolian grill area, the rest of the fare is $9.99 buffet quality, at best. Asparagus was the size of my thumb and almost a foot long, leading to much fibrous and chewiness. The other food was good, not great. The Mongolian grill fare was fresh. I do not eat sushi though, so no comments on it. The cold crab legs were maybe a B-. My wife said she hated the fact they tasted "salty" but they so come from salt water, right? Went here on Thanksgiving day. Price was $13.99. We only went because it was the only chinese food open. Overall, the service was good. The food was ok.... seemed like a lot of variety. Some of the normals like general tso chicken tasted a little different then that of other places. Egg rolls were mediocre, more like a spring roll as they didn't have any meat in them. Didn't try the sushi, typically don't eat sushi from places like this. The star of the show was the fresh made hibachi, pick your own ingredients and they cook it. The lack luster experience was pribably just because of the holiday and food wasn't being replenished. They did have crab legs, would have been better if they were served steamed. Either way they weren't terrible. If you live in the area or don't have anywhere else to go, definitely worth the visit. Maybe I am a little biased because I prefer chinese take out. Wow, I didn't realize this place was listed as "hot and new" and I'm shocked. I don't usually expect much from buffets because they always disappoint, but this was the only one in the vicinity of Brandon, Seffner & Valrico that had decent ratings. the place has a run down feeling with super dirty carpet that's ripped and "replaced" in random places. I turned around as I entered because on top of that first impression - the place was dead. But my husband convinced me we already committed. Food was not very good! We ordered delivery and it came pretty quick. Immediately noticed missing chicken fried rice. Called and she said sorry I didn't order it. I got out the menu and added it up, my order was $45 . I paid $55.13. Chicken fried rice is $5. Idk maybe it was tax but it was $10 off. Bourbon chicken was huge pieces. I had to cut it up to eat. Then I took a bite.... Nothing but fat. They don't trim the chicken at all. Orange chicken was stringy and we felt like we were about to choke. Crab Rangoon was fine. Our cold sushi was in the bag with the steaming hot food. Not sure why they do that but it still tasted good. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone in the area. We went for a Sunday brunch. Four of us enjoyed our experience very much. There was something for everyone. We liked everything we tried and the staff was friendly and attentive. I was there today for dinner. The crab legs were still partially frozen and the butter was yellow water with salt. I have been here many times and can never expect the same each time. Some good/some not I should have asked to use the microwave and have fresh butter melted but I did not. I also should have asked for a refund. I know I eat 12 to 18 pounds of crab, but really that is only two pound of meat total. I had to pour wonton soup over the crab to defrost it. Then dry it off with a lot of napkins. This place was just okay. The rice was very good. The sugared donuts were very tasty. The sushi was okay. All of the various chicken options were lacking to say the least. Sadly I have to give this negative review! I love the manager he is super sweet always working hard. I can't say that for any other part of the restaurant, cashiers are always rude, wait staff never comes back. The grill well good luck I was there for over an hour my plate made sitting on the bar waiting to be cooked. Finally after my wonderful salad and desert I left. My husband and I love City Buffet. The food is fresh and not sitting under the lights for long periods of time. We especially like the Hibachi grill. My husband loves the sushi. We usually go at least once a week or every other week. However, the last few times we have visited I have been extremely disappointed in the service. I've had to track down a waitress to get my drink refilled on a number of occasions. The last time we were there, the waitress tried to snag a plate I was still eating off of and I had to get my own fortune cookies. This is the worse restaurant I've ever been to. The shrimp were mushy, The crab smelled like ammonia, the chicken was cold and the egg rolls were greasy. The worse part was when my mother got violently sick a few hours after we came home. She was so sick I took her to the hospital Monday the 6th of March and she just came home today. She was diagnosed with campylobacteriosis bacteria that causes colitis, violent vomiting, bleeding in bowels, bloody stools and can cause death if not treated immediately. It comes from under cooked chicken or foods contaminated by raw chicken. There were 4 other cases with the same thing hospitalized at Brandon regional from the same restaurant. This place needs to be shut down and investigated for contaminated/undercooked food! Do not risk your health at this restaurant. read more
