Pay up front not a bad idea. We arrived at 7:30 and the food choices were slim. The sushi was worst, there were 18 plates to hold the shush but only 7 had sushi. Some kid (18-25) was sitting behind the sushi bar with his head down looking at his phone. I went to try the crawfish, shrimp, and blue crab. When I dropped the tongs into one of the pans I went to retrieve them. My knuckles touched the bottom of the pan and I did not get hurt. I purposely touched several areas of the hot plates and the whole table was maybe 98-100 degrees. I brought attention to that and they offered to make me fresh food. I said yes please. As I walked away I looked back and the employee was taking the cold food off the line to reheat. Uhm no that's not what is supposed to happed. It is 8:27 and I wanted my wings (because the picketing are slim) "oh we shut the kitchen down already!" Me thinking you are open till 9pm. Food is pretty good, don't get the take-home buffet. The price for the lunch buffet is what seems to be a very reasonable $4.99 per pound, which would actually be a great price for above average Chinese buffet food, IF your order was weighed accurately. I used to go to this place pretty frequently to get takeout. However, a couple of months ago I noticed that every time I filled up a to-go box and one particular female cashier weighed it, the order seemed to be very pricey relative to the stated per-pound cost. Plus, this cashier would never turn the scale display so you could see it. So, I started weighing my orders on a high quality scale I have when I got them home, and sure as heck, 3 different times when she was the one weighing the order, the price came out to be 25% - 30% higher than what it should have been. This was never a problem when the other, younger cashiers weighed the order. I stopped going there because I got tired of getting ripped off. I would have more respect for them if they just overtly raised the price of the food than trying to get you on the down low. If you're going to eat there, dine in. read more

This is a one and done place for me. To be fair, we came within a hour of closing, but I still think that customer service and quality should not be compromised no matter the time. Expect to pay for the buffet up front (I imagine due to proximity of theme parks they may deal with a fair amount of dine and dash customers). The dining area is large and can accommodate large crowds; and unlike other buffets the food is central to the entire dining area. As for the buffet, most of the items were either running out, completely gone, incredibly tough, lukewarm or over salted! I found the chicken on a stick to be the most palatable item. Before closing time, staff started cleaning the floor around our table with a very concentrated bleach solution - mind you there were plenty of areas quite a distance away that could have been cleaned instead (we were clearly wrapping up our meal and the added pressure was very unkind). read more

My family loves Chinese buffets and have been to almost every one from New Port Richey to Naples and Clearwater to Orlando and Daytona. No matter which ones we try, this one is still the BEST of them all. We come here at least 2-3 times a month, and everybody we've ever invited raves about it. Should be called "sh ..ty buffet. In all fairness, we got here a little late at 7 PM. But the buffets tables were not kept hot and fresh. The sushi was very limited. Most of the meats on the buffet were already like jerky. Nothing at all was exceptional. And to charge $20 per person too much. Other buffets in the area go for 1599 for dinnerand are hot and fresh. Update to my March 2022 review: Lunch is really underwhelming, cheap with various chicken entrees. Limited real sushi was a surprise. Quality has really deteriorated, no longer a value meal with various choices. In fact, seafood has all but disappeared except for one dish that included the small shrimp. No pork, or beef to speak of. Not my type of crowd. Too many kids under 10 years old just helping themselves to food; spilling, digging through the food..where are the parents? I ordered delivery via Beyond Menu. A few things to note: 1. Delivery took over an hour, much longer than expected. There was also no communication about my delivery. 2. This restaurant needs to fix their beyond menu items. I called them because a sushi roll came with krab, and that was not listed as an ingredient. They are now aware and gave me a credit. 3. I had eaten at City Buffet a few times pre-COVID since it's near a church I usually attend when in the Tampa Bay Area. Not too long ago, I ate here for the first time in three years. As usual, the food was good. The Asian background music was enjoyable (although it sounded like the same song played over and over). Another addition I liked was the animated mural on the wall near the cashier. Speaking of whom, the cashier needs to work on her listening skills or improve her understanding of English. Saw the negative reviews but hey, this is a decent priced buffet so my family and I decided to try it out. Food is mostly your usual Chinese take out food with some additional dishes like blue crab, whole fried shrimp, sushi etc.... The salad bar did not have salads but a few raw veggies and I think seafood salad. There was what looked like a hibachi grill but no one was behind the counter and the raw meats were just out for anyone to touch. The rice used for the sushi did not at all taste like sushi rice. It was a little mushy. I did not have dessert which looked like ice cream and small pastries. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because I was impressed at how meaty the blue crab was and the temperature was nice and warm not the usual cold seafood you find at buffets. I remember coming to this buffet a long time ago when it was a typical american type buffet. The shopping center and the space the City Buffet occupies wasn't in very good shape then, and it hasn't changed much. I had personal business in the area, and decided to give it a try right around noon. Reading some other reviews about the food on the buffet not being fresh, I figured this would be the time it would be replenished the quickest. The interior is a large space with lots of tables, but I would estimate it was less than 10% filled with diners. I don't particularly care for sushi, so although the sushi section looked nice I didn't partake of it. Other reviewers have had various comments on the Hibachi area being a good bet, but it appeared to be unmanned the entire time I was there. I made a couple of trips to the buffet tables and had: egg roll, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, and Kung Pao Shrimp. I also tried the fried rice, the white rice, and the soft ice cream . Oddly the best item was the egg roll, which was perfectly cooked and tasty. The Mongolian Beef was the only time I had seen the beef cut in strips. It was not particularly spicy or tasty. The Kung Pao chicken was the same. Red pepper flakes could be seen, but it was neither spicy or well seasoned. The shrimp were perhaps medium size, also not particularly spicy, but the shrimp did seem fresh and cooked the right amount. That dish was perhaps the best, but it was the natural flavor of the shrimp that made it so. The fried rice was uninspired and the white rice was hidden away in a rice cooker, and was ... just white rice. The chocolate soft ice cream was rather bland. The service was good, the waitress refiling my soft drink several times without being asked, and the used plate removed each time I got up. For $10 and change there are better choices in the Brandon area. read more

Their weekend dinner is $13 with a soft drink. Hibachi grill with marinated steak cut or skew. Skew shrimp for hibachi. The crawfish is fresh enough and tail easily separated from the shell. It has snow crab and blue crab for your choice. The hot food is above average on the serving. Considered this is very remote area and they can provide better quality food. This buffet restaurant offers good variety of different food from Sushi, Sashimi , Hibachi Grill to cook food, salad bar fruit, dessert, ice cream, soup etc. The dishes I tried were all tasty. The quality of material was fresh enough. The rule here is customers pay first before sit down and grab the food. This restaurant received 3 stars due to overall service and cleanliness. Price wise it was a bit much considering what they actually had to offer. I've noticed that maybe common restaurants located in fl are more expensive than in other states. The area seems to be a little older but has a continuous flow of traffic. There wasn't a ton of people in the restaurant however customers were actively coming and going. The food was nice especially when they started bring out fresh items. There was a guy actively making sushi the entire time we were there. The individuals working the restaurant seem to be really young with the exception of maybe three people. They were doing a lot of playing and joking around. I noticed that everyone that would get a drink refill would also have to clean up spilled portion of it as well. Great buffet. My boyfriend and I loved everything we tried. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Usually buffet sushi is very hit or miss. This one was amazing they are enforcing masks and social distancing which is a big plus during this time. Staff was very friendly and attentive didn't leave us for very long with empty drinks or plates on the table. My daughter graduated from college and wanted to have her get together there. They have a large separate room for private parties. Many of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the food and planned to come back. The Hibachi, Sushi, and other items we're Top Notch. But the food was terrible. I think, even if I was given a free meal, I don't think I would go back. Our sodas tasted like they were spiked with a cubes of chlorine and were undrinkable. Owner pockets the cash tips. They pay for lodging of the migrant workers in a group house, and the tips easily pay for that. Many more thousands are just extra money for the owners. Tips don't go into the pockets of the workers. PLUS the main lady at the register (and waitress) IS THE OWNER. AND NOW they added 15% onto the bill. BE CAREFUL. Hold on to YOUR cash, you're already paying a fair price. Its annoying that if you get there after 12:15, sushi may be depleted. And sushi worker on lunch break, so timing is critical. It won't restock until 1-ish. Also, they open at least by 11. So if you get there at 12, foods been sitting out for OVER an hour. Which is ok for some things (it doesn't make it a health risk!), but fried fish for example, isn't going to be good/hot/crispy at 1.5 hours. Same with sweet & sour chicken. Fresh, its awesome! So some things you need to keep an eye out for hot & fresh. They ALWAYS are cooking and restocking, so if you got to the end of a dish and it wasn't to your expectations, some fresh will be coming out (esp. if you say something to the attendant). Green beans, for example, are going to soften on the line. But they come out frequently. If you like them fresh & green and crisp, just give it time. Don't complain about it and say they have nasty looking beans - you're at a buffet - its not made to order. One thing is the bathrooms are kinda nasty and run down. They mop in the morning (for some stupid reason) and even at noon, the men's bathroom floor is still WET and floor is nasty looking (you can see the dirt, debris, hairs, etc. in the wet floor). And they can't seem to stock the towel dispensers or keep them working - so there is usually a roll you have to dispense from - which, can get handled by people, wet, dirty, etc. Kinda gross. At least the sewage smell is gone now - that was there for a few months (yes, i'm serious - no joke). Sushi bar is VERY nice - as long as it is stocked. Salad bar very nice. Deserts very nice and some made on site. Fruit bar is nice - great oranges. Oh, didn't even mention the made to order Hibachi. if you utilize this, its easily worth the price of admission. But cook speaky not much english. They know sauce names. But hard to tell them not to overcook the crap outta your steak. Or to thoroughly cook the brocc so its not too crunchy. They're not trained culinary chefs - so can't expect a lot. But it can be tasty. Hmmm... anything else? DON'T TIP. (Most of this is related to lunch experience.) I have been to this restaurant twice for dining in, and recently they came door to door dropping off their menus saying they deliver. I'll start with the dining in experience. Dining in the sushi is freshly made and the hibachi is flavorful. However, there is hardly anyone ever dining in, so the cooked food is always old and not fresh. The waitresses are always sitting down and eating. It takes forever to get a refill unless the guy is walking around. I assume he is the owner/manager. He is quick to refill drinks. Tonight I was in the mood for some sushi and remembered that they delivered so I took a glance at the menu. Their sushi rolls were only $3.99 per roll so I said I would give it a try. I ordered a spicy crab roll and a California roll. Also, chicken with mixed veggies and bourbon chicken. I figured since it was delivery, that it would be made fresh which is why I took a chance at the hot food. When I called to place my order, the order taker said it would be about 45 minutes. I said ok no problem. An hour and 10 minutes passed by and I gave them a call. The same order taker asked for my address and said they are on the way, and they only had one driver tonight. About 10-15 minutes later he arrives. When I opened my front door the biggest odor of cigar smoke filled my nose. I grabbed the bag and the smell was all over the bag. When I opened the bag, the food was shaken up and was cold. I immediately called the restaurant and explained the situation. They apologize but that is unacceptable. I will never return.
