I tried the maple donut and let me tell you it was so delicious and not too sweet (still sweet though). It has a custard filling on the inside which was to die for. My fiancé had a cake donut and said it was the best donut he's ever had. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and we were in and out very quickly. My 2 stars from seven years ago is now a 5. This is why: the grumpy lady who served me then has been replaced by a very nice young man who stayed open an extra few minutes to accommodate me - a smile and some accommodation goes a long way. Second, and this is the BIG one for me, they are now open until 8 pm (every day but Monday)! This business was located in what looked to be a pretty sketchy area particularly for an out of town guest not knowing where she was. It had boxes and stuff piled around and the bathroom needed a code to get in. The person manning the place was okay friendly but not especially welcoming or informative. The donuts were good but the "coffee drink" was gas station coffee drink which suffices for coffee but not if you want a nice latte in the morning. WOW. The amount of stellar reviews on City Donut is phenomenal! I stopped by the Denver location on my way back from some errands and wanted to treat myself to an apple fritter (my usual selection) and a cup of coffee. Has a typical neighborhood donut shop feel to it, complete with regulars walking in and out, chatting with the owners. Service is great. Selection is great. Donuts themselves are great. Coffee is great. No complaints here, and I'd totally do a catering or large to-go order once more in-person events start happening. I rarely go to Littleton or Aurora, but I'll have to visit City Donuts over there, too. Love when I visit a place that lives up to its hype. I'll definitely be back! read more

For the one donut I had, this place is very promising. I usually rate my donut shops by their glaze donuts but to my misfortune the gluttonous old man ahead of me took them all. Oh well. I got here pretty early so it makes me think so they just not make enough glaze donuts or do they just taste like heaven, I will never know. Unless I am in Denver again. But for the one donut that I did have, second favorite cinnamon crumb donut, it was very tasty and very fluffy. It is everything you want in a donut. I can't give this a 5. Fantastic donut shop! Popped in here on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30pm just before closing. My wife and I got a glazed donut each, and they were the best!! The donut was so fluffy and had a nice crispy exterior, not too sickly, just right. We wanted to do something nice for our apartment community staff before the holidays (December 2021), so we headed to City Donuts to get them a gift. We arrived 30 minutes before they closed and assumed they wouldn't have much left ... but we were wrong. It looks like they just opened - the case was full of so many gorgeous choices! The gal behind the counter was sweet and friendly, and super patient with us as we got 2 dozen donuts and some extras for ourselves. She even offers to give us a veteran discount even though they don't normally do those anymore - she definitely didn't have to, but it was very gracious of her. So how do the donuts TASTE? We settled on City Donuts, and we were beyond impressed! We were greeted so warmly by Mido, the young man working the counter. I hate to leave a one star review for City Donuts, because I actually really liked their selection and service. So I'll add another star for that. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the doughnuts here, and on my first time visiting, no less. I couldn't wait to come by and try out their selection, so I was here at about 8 or 9 in the morning. The 3 doughnuts, and the bottled orange juice I bought on the side, were the first (and only) thing I ate that day; I started feeling strange within 2 hours, then began getting sick. So I didn't have an appetite to eat for the rest of the day. It only lasted a day or so, but I was made sick nonetheless. Therefore, I will not be giving City Donuts another try. :( Also worth a note: you can't get any fancy coffee here, just a simple cup of Joe. Literally just a SIMPLE cup of Joe. Not only am I a former pre-med student & biology major, I am a certified food handler/preparer, certified in 5 states. I know what causes food poisoning, and what the symptoms are. Food poisoning can be felt as early as 3-6 hours after consuming contaminated food. It is quite disappointing that you aren't well-informed on your knowledge of food-borne illnesses, as you are working directly with the public in a food and service related industry. Please obtain further education on the cause and effects of food borne illnesses so that you will not contaminate someone else's food like you did mine. And I never said anything about nausea; your donuts caused me to literally throw up, have explosive diarrhea, and I was also plagued with "sulfur burps" (which is a CLEAR indicator of consuming contaminated foods), for an entire 24 hours. I WISH it were as simple as just "feeling nauseas." I had literally not eaten anything else in the 12-14 hours prior to me buying donuts at your shop, so the buck cannot be passed. read more

I really shouldn't know about this place. These are some old school donuts. So delicious and perfectly fluffy and light. And they're not expensive and it's really easy to just keep eating them (even when you're so full and you've already had 2 but you've got 2 more in your bag and you know you were never going to wait till tomorrow to eat them...) Back in Raleigh my husband and I became slightly obsessed with a donut shop that made what I consider the best apple fritter known to man kind! Since relocating we have been on the epic search to find a replacement...City Donuts on Colfax good but not 100%. My husband and I went on a Sunday morning and luckily had no issue parking (right out front) and only had to wait a few moments to purchase our daily deliciousness. The young lady at the counter wasn't nearly as personable as the owner seems to be from other reviews but she helped us. We got the last 2 apple fritters (which upset the people behind us) and 2 glazed cruellers. The glazed cruellers were pretty good in my opinion. They donut itself was moist and sweet but not overdone. The apple fritters looked very similar to my favorite Raleigh apple fritter but were more doughy that I liked. They did have actual apples in them which I thought was impressive. I guess I most preferred the edges which were the most delicious bites of heaven but the middle - again too doughy. I would definitely go back to City Donuts and maybe even try the apple fritters again. I look forward to trying/finding a maple eclair with white cream filling - none of that pudding crap! read more

We frequent here after church or swim lessons! They're always so friendly, the donuts are good and it's a nice local spot! They often sell out of the donut holes so be sure to get there early! I'm talking to you, Voodoo Doughnuts, and the beloved chain shop (Lamars) on their website, they quote, and I repeat: "These are doughnuts that will take you back to your childhood, with scores of cake..." I was impressed and was definitely worth seeing what they had: my favorite of assorted glaze, red velvet, swirls, and creamy goodness filled. Oh my god! This donut shop is probably the closest to our house which is definitely an added bonus when you decide last minute that you want donuts. Also, there's never a line which is another added bonus when you usually travel to donut shops with children that are 3 and 6. They have traditional flavors done well. Don't go here looking for crazy toppings. Do go here for consistently soft and delicious donuts that you can get quickly.
