The one downfall is the entrance fee. Even if you are not playing, you still have to pay. ::Experience:: The entry admission is $2.75 per person. The game card cost is $5 = 100 points / $10 = 200 points / $25 = 500 points + 20 points / $50 = 1,000 points + 75 bonus / $100 = 1,000 points + 100 bonus. Inside was clean and not crowded. There were a variety of games for different ages. There is a mini bowling; up to six players can play. It cost 100 points per player. We enjoyed playing the Highway 66 Bowling, basketball, Space Invaders, and Deal or No Deal, etc. The prizes are also decent and there is a lot to choose from. I used to bring my kids(who are now adults) here all the time when they were located in Carmel Mountain and when they were Nickel City. I now bring my nieces here. They have changed their name to City Fun Center. The bags of nickels are mostly gone and your money and even tickets are loaded onto a card. Which I think is way better than lugging around a bag of nickels and trying to shove hundreds of tickets into a ticket eater. But I am older now so... They have a good selection of games, a version of bowling, and laser tag. Plenty for kids and adults to do. They even have a pretty big selection of hot food at their snack bar. And beer and wine is now on the menu for all those parents who love to sit around and drink while their kids are running around. If you're looking for a place to have a birthday party this would be a good place. They have some nice looking party rooms available. Came here with a group of friends for free admission February! This arcade is unique from a lot of other arcades because it offers both Mini Bowling and Laser Tag. The place was super clean and staff were very friendly. There is also a clean cafe area outside of the arcade floor if you are tired and want to order some food before playing again. Many games here cost about 1-4 points, so it's not bad. City Fun Center uses a game card system for points. As far as pricing goes, the general breakdown is: $10 game card: 30 pts. $15: 45 + 5 bonus = 50 pts. $25: 75 + 15 bonus = 90 pts. $50: 150 + 40 bonus = 190 pts. $100: 300 + 100 bonus = 400pts. A game of Laser tag runs for 20 minutes, so if you're with a large group of friends, make sure to let staff know that you want to set aside a time when you walk in. read more

We always have a blast here. It can get crowded, because it's popular place to go. Your chances of leaving with good prizes are way better than that Mouse Arcade holding the cheese. We found this place on Yelp a few months ago while searching for birthday party options for my son. We didn't end up having a party for him after all this year but wanted to check the place out since we are always on the prowl for fun family weekend activities. The food was good. We got pizza, mozzarella sticks, and fries. It wasn't the best food I've had in my life but it definitely hits the spot when at an arcade. The family package options are a good deal too. Pricing tends to be on par with other pizza/arcades and there's good options for all age ranges. Yes, it could be cheaper; however, I wasn't shocked by the prices so I feel like the experience we got was worth the price. All games were fully functional, which was great and the mini bowling was perfect for my 7, 5, and 3 year old. The prizes were pretty good too. The young man who helped us order seemed a little confused at first, but I figure he was probably new and learning the ropes. He was very friendly, along with all other employees who went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Had a family outing today went to Nickel City for the first time. We were dying to play the Route 66 mini bowling. The place was a little dreary, had some party rooms, some extra tables to sit down at. Admission fee is $2.00 even if your not playing the games, but you can sit at the tables outside of the game area. Military price is $1.75 per person, that was cool The place had a lot of games between 4-10 nickels,some games were money only. They give you a bag of nickels it's best to get 200 nickels for $10 because they will go fast depending on how many the game takes. They had some old school games that was cool The prizes seemed to be average just like other arcade like places. In the late '90s, the Nickel City location in Scripps Ranch was where I could be found. Pay a small admission fee, buy some nickels (or bring your own), find a machine, and play as long as your money held out (and if you found a game with free play, so much the better). Guess what, folks - Nickel City is BACK. Granted, it's in Miramar, it's got more ticket redemption games, mini bowling, and a couple of party rooms, but it's still the same concept: pay an admission fee of $2.75, buy a bag of nickels for at least $5, and have at it! While this may sound like a bargain, keep this in mind: most of the games take 5-6 nickels per play, there's only three fighting games at the moment, and not too many free play games. Also, unlike Chuck E. Cheese, Dave & Busters, or even Boomers, there's no on-site refreshments (unless you count the vending machines); if you're planning a birthday party or celebration, bring your own. Still, if you have little ones and have a birthday party/bar mitzvah/celebration coming up, or if you want to give them a diversion for a few hours, or even want to give yourself a diversion after work by indulging your inner child, Nickel City is the place to be! read more

I've got a pocket full of nickels and I'm headed to the arcade.. If you're looking to treat your kids ( and yourself) this is great place where everyone wins! From the Main Menu - -Video games cost anywhere between 4 and 10 nickels per play, with most being around 4. They did have a separate area for vintage games which were all set on free play. Some of the vintage games actually have several games build into them ( like Pac Man, Dig Dug, and Zaxxon) and all you have to do was choose a game from the menu. - It was interesting that the video games section was not very popular with the kids at this arcade, everyone was trying to win tickets. Perhaps symbolic of the American culture of always trying to receive payment / receive stuff in order to keep attention. - What was particularly impressive were the private party rooms. These private rooms were a lot better than the "party rooms" at other various other fun centers. Something to research if you're planning a kid's birthday party. Game Over - - Some games take 10 nickels, which is a pain especially when the machine would steal a nickel here and there. - Most of the ticket counting machines were offline and lines were too long. - A few of the older teens were "taking down" the ticket redemption games. Honestly, this place is a fun place to take kids who are obsessed with winning yellow tickets to swap for prizes. Nickel City is a cheaper option than Dave & Busters and Belmont Park (man, their arcade area is a rip compared to this place). They have more game options than Chuck E Cheese as well. There is a $2.25 admission fee but you can by pass that if you stay in their cafe/sitting area. We opted to pay the $2.25 to keep an eye out for the kids. We opted to buy the kids the $15 package deal which includes: admission, slice of pizza, small soda, $10 bag of nickels, 100 free tickets. This is actually a pretty good deal (savings wise if you do the calculations). And the pizza slices weren't that bad either. I agree with other yelpers that there are fewer games that cost just a nickel. Most are 4+ nickels per play so adults need to be mindful of kids who don't know how to ration their bag of nickels. I was griping about this the entire night UNTIL my friend won 600+ tickets on a game (for his nephew) that required just ONE nickel so there ya go. Yellow ticket tips: check in on yelp for 100 tickets, register for their loyalty plan for 100 tickets, and buy the $15 package deal to get another 100 tickets. We had 600 additional tickets just by doing this that one evening. The staff here at NC were very patient and I was impressed how calm and collected they were with kids eager to play and earn prizes. Steven, the owner, was kind to those I saw him interact with. I don't think it's an easy business to run so props to him for keeping his cool in a hectic environment. I am super excited for this new location! Nickel city was a staple in San Diego county for many years. Once rebranded as "City Fun Center" the nickel system was removed in favor of a card system with much less maintenance. Some nickel games were still an option to play but most were just converted to a card system. It was very devastating when I heard the former Miramar location would be closing permanently. Luckily the owner saved most of the games and moved to a much larger location near Poway. I did hear speciation that this new location will NOT have laser tag, but would still feature it's bowling lanes and great variety of arcade games. The new location is next to one of the Poway In n Out locations in the former Staples building. Overall I am super excited to see what City Fun center will bring back to the community and hopefully remain that very new and clean looking atmosphere. read more

I had a birthday party here for my son. I interacted directly with Steve (owner), and Gia one of the party hosts. We had an exceptional experience. We rented a party room and we bought the party pack that had arcade, bowling, and pizza. It's great because with the party pack arcade cards they don't load all the money on the arcade cards at once. They put half the money on at the beginning and the rest later on. This helped keep the kids busy the whole time. They played for a while, ate pizza, then did the bowling (they reserve the bowling area for you when you include it in your party pack), then had cake, played a game, and then spent the rest of their money at the arcade. It worked out perfectly. It's also great that the arcade cards with the party package don't work on the claw games, because otherwise the kids would go through the money so quick. I also liked how they didn't make me pay the night before, instead they waited to see how many people actually came and only charged me for that number of kids/adults. I really appreciate that! Same with the goodie bags....one kid forgot their goodie bag and I was able to return it and not get charged for it. Gia, our party host was very prompt. It was great to have her help too. Steve, the owner is very experienced and has the whole party thing dialed in. This place makes party hosting easy for moms! Gia actually told me, "don't worry, I'll take care of that..." so nice. We were here for a kids birthday party so we had free entry as well as a card with nickels/credit loaded on by the host for my 5yr old son. Given his age, my 5yr old needed assistance in some of the games, I guess CC would be more age appropriate for him, but it seemed like a great place for older kids. The party was set up in a room with a large table with birthday place settings for the birthday child and other kids. They had pizza and our host brought in their own ice cream cake. Most games seemed to require quite a large amount of nickels so unless an adult is accompanying the younger kids, it's easy for them to eat away their bag of nickels sooner than expected. No diaper changing station in the women's restroom (minus one star) which was really surprising as a number of the families that were there ( apart from the birthday party guests) did have babies! I was sitting in traffic on Miramar Road when I spotted a sign for "Nickel City" in the mini mall parking lot on my left. After a quick Google (I was the passenger, by the way), I found out that it was a video game arcade. I convinced "Constant Companion" to turn in. Who wants to sit in traffic, right? You have to pay an entrance fee to get in ($2.50, I think), which is a little annoying. However, I was impressed by the great variety of games. My favorite was the bowling alley. Very neat. I also liked the bean bag game. They had some old arcade games in the back that were free, but everything else required "tokens" that you put on your players card. We spent about 2 hours there and then cashed in our tickets for candy and an ice cream cone keychain. Plus, we completely avoided traffic. Check it out. What left a bad impression was the manager or owner, Steve. He was unprofessional and did not communicate in a way that was thorough or respectful. I had to remember I was working and bite my tongue. We came here after eating at the buffet. It's right nearby. My daughter wanted to play games, win tickets and get toys from the tickets she won. You pay to get in. There's an amount for nickels received to play games. Almost the same concept as Chuck E Cheese but this place actually uses nickels to play games. You earn tickets on the games. The more tickets you get, the better toys you get. Pretty cool concept. I had a blast playing some games like the basketball game, crane game, etc. They stamp your hand with the initials NC to make sure you can come back in. The dining area is separate from the arcade area. We didn't try the food but maybe next time. This place was filled with kids and adults. They even have a room you can reserve for parties. I learned it is possible to get nickeled and dimed, actually just nickeled, until you've paid an arm and a leg. Took my kids here for the first time thinking this was a true nickel arcade. Yes, I'm naive and took the bait. Anyway, entrance fee is $2.75 whether you're playing or just being a parent bleeding nickels by the second. Many arcade games are 6 nickels a play, but the better and newer ones are 10 nickels per play. My kids would give this place 5 stars but I have to knock it down to 4 stars because it's not really Nickel City, more like $10/hour City per kid. The nickel "concept" is an annoying inconvenience when games costs 50 cents or a dollar per play and you must use nickels because the machines don't recognize quarters. The Deal or No Deal game is a real gut punch at 20 nickels/play. It is a hassle to fumble around and insert 20 coins into a machine just to play once. Making a small kid do it is just plain mean. At the end of the day, $10/hour per kid is kinda steep but I'm ok with it seeing how much the kids have fun here. read more

A little costly in my opinion. $2.75 admission for each child... 3 kids. Plus 3 $20 game cards. Also there are no savings available in bundle deals. No bonus credits with purchases over $10. No incentive to buy more credits. Make sure you check in with Yelp for 100 free tickets!! That's the only best deal this place offers. Overall, my kids had fun. My boyfriend and I felt like being kids again for one night. Nickel city has been around for a while and they found a new larger home on Miramar Road. I was really excited to relive my childhood and to play some of the same games I loved as a kid. Obviously the prices have increased since I've been here. We paid $2.50 for admission (each) and $5 for 100 nickels. They also offer special admission/ meal deals as well. 100 nickels got us pretty far but some of the games require 20 nickels yikes! We played some of the classics but there were a lot of new ones. No wack a mole with a mallet anymore. Everything is now digital. Of course we played basketball, ski ball and our favorite work out was competing with each other on DDR (dance dance revolution) oddly it was all in Spanish. They also have a bowling ally now with 4 or so lanes. I saw a few conference rooms for kids parties to be held. Overall we had fun time. Some of the machines broke down on us but the staff was always available to help us un-jam the tickets. We got to be kids again for an hour.
