For dinner I had a cheeseburger and fries, husband had chopped sirloin, Mac and cheese and fries. We couldn't finish our meals nor the appetizer - the helpings were large. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us twice - refilling drinks. Restaurant was clean, bathrooms were clean. We almost missed out on the location. - it didn't even pull up on our Yelp. The waitress was terrible, we ordered chicken tenders as an appetizer with honey mustard sauce. The sauce was never delivered. She never checked to see if everything was ok. I want to start off by saying, the Manager or Owner of City Grill is very unprofessional. I ordered 2 3 piece chicken dinners. The chicken was very dry and some area stringy. The chicken was very bland, no seasoning whatsoever. I called with my complaint, the Manager barely let me speak. End result bring it back. This Manager came to the register, no eye contact and no apologies. I could tell he didn't like the idea of me looking for quality food. He was just Rude with his attitude. My husband and I shared a meatloaf and a rib entree. They were both delicious. Ribs were fall off the bone tender, not too sticky sweet and the meat loaf is addictive. The sides (fried okra and sweet potato fries) were served hot, and both were some of the best I've had. City Grille has become our new favorite for reasonable prices, generous servings and really good food. The staff is always pleasant and the food comes out quickly. The atmosphere reminds me of a renovated Shoney's (clean, basic, nothing fancy) which is fine with us...especially if it keeps prices down. I don't do sugar, but the desserts look delicious! Waited 20 minutes for Restaurant to open. Restaurant sign displays they serve: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Biz hrs are 1030-1000. When I sat down I noticed menu states Lunch, Dinner. I asked if they served breakfast, waitress said, "NO, I'm sorry". I let her know their sign out front says they served Breakfast, she apologized and tried to sell me on lunch. We were seated quickly and the staff seemed friendly. Restaurant was clean and it was busy enough to make me feel comfortable it wasn't horrible. The menu had a ton of stuff on it, probably way too much for anything to be incredible. I got eggplant parm, which was a giant portion and the marinara was great. My husband got fried chicken and I was shocked they sent it out, the leg had no meat on it, it was the same size at the bottom as the top. He ordered mixed (dark and white) but it was that leg thing and 2 thighs. He said it tasted good though. However, today I witnessed something so disgusting and vile, I will never return and I am contacting multiple state agencies. The restaurant has a sign out front on the marquee (on both sides) that they are hiring for servers and kitchen staff. I was dining today, immediately across from the cashier and a younger looking female (maybe 18-22) comes in and asks for an application. One of the servers alerts the owner / manager who comes out and LIES and says no we are not hiring right now. The lady leaves, and I hear conversation between the owner / manager and the servers. Went here for lunch. Nice decor. Ordered the chicken parmigiana, which comes with spaghetti and a house salad. The house salad arrived quickly. The size of it compared to a main salad at a lot of places. The salad was lettuce, diced tomatoes and onions. The chicken parmigiana had a good flavor and was an ample portion. Service was excellent. I do want to comment that the door signs say the hours of operation are 10:30 am - 10 pm daily, but the sign by the highway states they are open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Came in for lunch with my old neighbor. The restaurant has a nice comfortable country atmosphere. The food was very tasty and plentiful. The food here is reasonably priced and you get good portions- The servers were nice- a little slow but friendly. The problem came when my husband had a hot plate of collared greens spilled down his back. We got everything cleaned up- but the manager never came over- it took our server forever to come back and they didn't even discount his meal for his stained shirt. Great potential- work on customer service especially for the folks that aren't jerks about stuff- I'm sure if we'd yelled and screamed we would have eaten free- we were understanding- even helped clean up- our reward was paying our full bill. read more

I thought it would be a good idea to phone in an order for Greek Salad and Caesar Salad. BAD. IDEA. First, both salads were made with overly chopped iceberg lettuce which had seen a fresher time. The croutons for the caesar salad were from a box and the parmesan cheese was from a plastic container. I was told that the dressing was made in-house. NOT. Both dressings were from a jar. The greek salad was heavy with feta cheese ... and wilted iceberg lettuce. NEVERMORE. We have been ordering chicken parmigiana subs for several weeks. Everytime there has been an issue. No cheese lol on a chicken Parm, charged for extra cheese and only got regular amount, paper stuck in the cheese because they wrap it with sandwich paper instead of foil. I have spoken with the owner several times about this and this last time was the kicker. I called and explained we love your food, but these are the issues we keep having. He said do not eat just bring back they will make fresh. I said thank you, but sometimes when you get home you don't want to go back out . He asked what I wanted him to do? I explained again I just want to make you aware of what's going on. The chicken Parm isn't the only thing we order but a big part of what we order. I then asked if I may order a chicken Parm and he told me I thought you didn't want it and as I went to tell him we love your food just not happy with the mess ups he went off talking over me, was loud as well as rude. I wasn't going to go back and forth with him, so I told him i would find another restaurant and hung up... We were warned about this behavior and never witnessed it until now!! Just tried this place and it wasn't the worst but definitely wasn't the best either. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon but we were seated right away. I think we didn't know the right things to order as it was our first time there. I forgot to take pictures of our broiled salmon and scallops but they were not very good. I ordered the Mac and cheese based on pics from other reviews but the one they served me was pale yellow, flavorless, and mushy. It's funny how we take for granted places that we eat at in our home cities. There are diners all over Long Island and if you get sick of one you move on to the next. They all seem to have there own different personalities. The parts of NC that I travel to don't seem to have any diners. City Grille is the closest to a diner that you will get to. They have a huge selection of different foods. I of coarse went for the Greek salad with grilled chicken and it was quiet tasty. The portions are big and I left satisfied. The staff is very nice and the regulars give the place some character. I'm glad that someone finally opened up an eatery that gives you a better selection than the chain restaurants do for a better price. In the area, and was recommended by a local. Lunch, greeted promptly and seated not too busy the waitress came with menus and drink order. I ordered the Spinach Pie, coming with rice pilaf and Greek salad. The portions were huge. I've never had spinach pie (Greek) served quite this Way, it was wrapped totally in phyllo dough. It was way too heavy, and didn't need the wrapped dough totally around it. It had flavor but wish it had feta inside if it did you couldn't see it. My husband ordered the meatloaf, it came with traditional mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. The meatloaf had a strong taste of oregano and the gravy tasted like it was made from a powder mix. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant and not good. We dId order the hush puppies that were very good, they looked like onion rings, and were very good. Had a BLT yesterday. Horrible, consisted mostly of fat, no mayo and stale bread. When I mentioned to cashier he totally overlooked the bacon and said I needed to ask for mayo (even though the menu stated "served with mayo" and I've had the BLTs in the past with mayo). Poor and snarky attitude. Have eaten there in past, and the BLT's was one of my favorites, but never again. I gave a $5 tip so as not to penalize the server who was kind and efficient. Copy and pasting for a friend who does not use Yelp, but you all need to know how awful this place is. Okay first off I want this to reach as many people as possible due to how embarrassing this was for me and my boyfriend. So to start off I wanted something light, like a sandwich so we decided to come here. I ordered a club sandwich with the BREAD toasted. (Meaning the meat and everything else inside should still be cold, at least every club sandwich I've ever had has been this way). I received my sandwich and it was luke warm on the inside. The cheese tasted as if it was sitting out for hours and they threw it on my sandwich. The bacon tasted so old. It was just awful. Not good AT ALL. so as polite as I could I said to the waitress "I'm really not trying to be difficult but I don't like this at all can I order something else maybe" She then days "I mean you can but the manager gonna make you pay for both" ....ummm no. So I asked to speak to him because I'm not paying for a meal I barely even touched let alone didn't like at all. He comes out and starts questioning me stating "the sandwich is perfect there is nothing wrong with it" meanwhile embarrassing me while everyone in the restaurant stared because he could not do this quietly. It had to be done so EVERYONE could hear. As he continues to go on and on about how there's nothing wrong with my sandwich and I'm literally being refused to be served anything else. We then ask for the check and we're ready to go. He put this sandwich on our ticket. Which I stated to him I'm not paying for. I did not eat it because it was disgusting. He then starts harassing my boyfriend at the front counter telling him all their food is perfect and he doesn't know what is wrong with me because that sandwich was perfect. I have never in my life been so disrespected and embarrassed at a restaurant before. He was so unprofessional and I'm trying to figure out how he's running a restaurant with people that actually respect him enough to work for him. I have never heard of a policy "if you don't like the food, too bad you're still paying for it because our food is perfect always" pretty much saying well the customer is always wrong. His customer service skills are lacking and I pray he doesn't do this to another customer who has an issue with their meal or anything of the sort! I will NEVER be back to this place. read more

Stopped by for dinner while in town for business and we enjoyed dinner, but holy moly - the portions are HUGE! Luckily we had a refrigerator in our hotel to take home the left overs. I had the stuffed flounder and it was absolutely delicious, but be careful because they serve it fresh and it comes out nearly on fire!
