It's a narrow storefront in a small strip plaza. I was there for other reasons, so I didn't give it much notice. They've been here since 1995, so they have to be doing something right. When I was leaving, I walked by and it looked so clean inside, I had to go in and check it out. They have a vibrant menu with lots of choices and no-coupon specials. I only tried a slice of pepperoni for starters. Everyone loves their pizza their way but this place was spot on for me! Crispy crust, not too thick, great amount of cheese and pepperoni. It tasted so good! I went back the next day when I had more time and tested out a pizza, cheese steak sub and wings. The food was great. My daily lunch (too) frequently involves pizza slices of varying varieties and origins so I did not hesitate to stop in when my wife and I were looking for lunch this past Sunday. There were no other customers and the few tables and chairs were set aside to allow an employee to wash the floor. I ordered a pair of slices and asked for them to be heated. These were decent size though pricey at $9 plus tax. The crust was merely okay while the cheese and sauce suffered from having been held hostage in the oven for too long. read more

Great pizza. Remarkably bad service. We went tonight in a Saturday and sat at the bar. We waited over an hour for our pizza. When after 45 minutes I asked our server about the pizza, I was told it was coming any minute. When the pizza came, it WAS delicious. After we ate, I asked for the check, and our server brought it promptly. However, after 10 minutes, we were still waiting for them to take our credit card. I asked one of the many other people behind the bar to help us and she said our server was restocking inventory and would get to us eventually. I was literally drumming my fingers in the bar when someone else saw me and ran our card. It was mismanagement. Not fatal - we like it and will try again - but needs attention. read more

I've eaten from several Hartford holes-in-the-wall. Some of them are clearly indifferent about what they serve to customers, but City Pizza is not. I've had a variety of things from them now - pizza, calzones, grinders, burgers - and I've yet to be served anything that disappointed me. It's not high-end cuisine, but at the same time, you can tell that there is integrity here. A few recommendations: Pizza - GET EXTRA CHEESE. I can't stress this enough. Their cheese is better than what I've seen at other pizzerias, and their pizza really shines when there's a lot of it. (My go-to: extra cheese, pepperoni, and olives.) The meat happens to be halal, so it may taste a bit different from what you're used to, but I like it. Calzones - These guys know how to do a calzone. Large, stuffed with that same quality cheese plus ricotta, brushed with butter. One of the best I've found in the Hartford area, to be honest. (My go-to: hamburger, peppers, and onions.) Burgers - Legit. The last one I had was a double cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and tomato, and good grief it had to have been a half-pound of meat. Delicious, and at $8.49 including French fries it was an *excellent* value. I am not lying when I tell you that I once paid twice as much for a worse burger at Plan B. Grinders - the only experience I have here is with their steak and cheese grinder, which I got with mayo, peppers, and onions. It's not going to give G's over on Park St. any competition, but it is solid and I'd get it again. I can't give five stars because, honestly, if you want the *best* examples of any of the above, there are other places you should patronize, but City Pizza has impressed me by offering an array of foods that range from decent to excellent. read more

Amazing halal pizza! This is one of the best slices I've had hands down. We tried the pepperoni and the Buffalo chicken and both were hot, crispy, and fresh. Get delivery! Don't pick up! What you can't see, won't hurt you. After I moved my son back into school, he and his roommates wanted some pizza and this place had littered the campus with flyers. So they ordered and I picked it up. Big mistake. Someone needs to take a broom and a mop to the floor. After which they can start wiping down the counter, tables and chairs. Travel time to this place was about 10 minutes and my wait time once I was there was about 20 minutes and they were empty. The pizza was fine but I'm sure there are other fine pies in Hartford that are cleaner and quicker. read more

Ordered Pizza. It arrived with burnt crust and burnt pepperoni. It was almost inedible, but when starving even bites of charcoal can do.

I've been ordering from City Pizza since 1990 or 1991 ish. I've ordered for student groups of all ages...jr high to adults, for my family and sometimes helpers. Everyone has always been happy. My husband and my friends always liked city pizza. They've been very helpful during this pandemic ...just like every day. Delivery and in the store I've always seen them wear masks. The delivery person wears masks and gloves. Im very happy. I've always found the store clean and staff welcoming and polite. City Pizza is a good neighbor here in the west end. Great Hawaiian pizza. I live in downtown Hartford and was sick of getting domino's delivery everytime i wanted pizza. My friend, who is a Hartford Native, suggested i try this place out. The pizza I got was the chicken pesto. It was a bit on the pricey side, but it did include "premium" toppings so i let it slide. The pizza came very quickly, less than 30 minutes. The pizza presentation was actually quite impressive. Whoever made it spent a lot of time making sure toppings were evenly distributed across the pie. As far as the pizza itself is concerned, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt amazing. I would have preferred there to be a bit more sauce. The pizza thickness was good, but there just wasnt enough sauce for the amount of crust. The toppings were good, but the pieces of chicken were almost so small you almost forgot they were there. The veggie toppings were good, including the fresh garlic. Bottom line, its a lot better than dominos, and with a better selection, but I'm not convinced its the best option for Hartford delivery. I will try a few more places, but will always keep this in mind as an option. read more

I kind of have a thing for BLTs.. they're just simple and delicious. There is however a science to making a good BLT because as simple as they are, it's a very fine line between a decent BLT and a BLT you dream about at night. Listen up class. For an excellent BLT (XBLT) a specfic formula has to be used in order to have the sandwich perfectly balanced for optimum enjoyment. This is also known as the BLT theorem (Similiar but not the same as the PBJ theorem). b : l : t or for sandwiches that are heaftier, B : L : T*. However. B : L : T XBLT XBLT is only created when the following expressions are both met: B : L : T and B + L + T + X = XBLT X is the excellence variable and can be a number of values. X = (possible values: quality of bread, degree of toasted bread, juciness/ thickness of the tomato, type of lettuce, etc) ! The X factor is very important. Seriously, ask the British, they have a whole television show dedicated to finding it. ! And that is how you make an excellent BLT (XBLT).** Sadly, City Pizza somehow didn't sucessfully complete the BLT theorem so it wasn't an XBLT. The other food in our order (a various spread of grinders, a salad, a ziti platter) all looked pretty decent. We placed our delivery order at work as a birthday lunch celebration for a coworker. We ordered eight slices of cake as part of our order and sadly, the dessert didn't make it with the rest of our order. Due to the snowstorm, having the desserts delivered would have taken another hour (due to the seventh immense snow storm of the century... this week), so we decided to forget dessert. The gentleman on the phone was extremely apologetic and quickly removed the cakes from the charge that had been placed on the card. *For the sake of example we are going to use (BLT) since I enjoy massive amounts of delicious food **Please keep in mind that this BLT theorem was described by an English major who uses math only when she's figuring out how many cupcake combinations she can try when ordering from the Cupcake Brake (see review). Hole in the wall pizza spot. Good prices and even better customer service. Pizza was good but didn't care for the garlic bread. It was a bit over baked. It's located along a strip of a few other places so parking is very limited. First time here and it served its purpose since I needed something quick to eat. If I ever come to the area again, I wouldn't mind grabbing some pizza from here again. Never had any any hole in the wall pizza place offer to bring the food to the table and even said we can pay after the meal. Not only is the pizza really good but it's Halal. The sausage and pepperoni and bacon are all beef. The sauce , though, and some of the vegetable toppings are what make these pies. Their pizza is a little pricey and greasy but delicious. I think the grease is because they use whole milk cheese, in fact I know from the empty cheese boxes lying around. Their sauce is wonderful, not overly sweet like those chain restaurants. That said, when they use it for their ziti and meatballs it could benefit from a bit more salt. I would get City Pizza delivered to me at University of Hartford at least once a week and they always had a great deal with free delivery though I always gave them an extra big tip. The cheese pizza was a bit on the greasier side but so good and the crust was nice and crisp. I like how they had like circles of sauce dripped on top of the cheese. I also got the calzone here though I prefer Sisson Ave's to theirs. Absolutely recommended to college students and people in the area. I've only drove by City Pizza and never gone inside. At the end of the day City Pizza is without a doubt THE BEST of them all. The decor inside is average, and you wont take a date there for a romantic night out, but if you want to know who has best pizza in Central CT this is the place. The only positive part of this experience was the quick delivery.. But after eating the food I wish the delivery guy never showed up. Sandwiches were terrible- barely any chicken in grinders and both ends of bread were stale. Fried mozz tasted like it was sitting over the fryer all day and reheated to serve, so greasy. My expectations were low given the sad exterior (in a strip mall, nothing pretty about it) and seating area (bare bones tables and chairs with no decorations), but wow was this pizza good! We just moved to CT from NYC so I'd like to think our pizza standards are high, and we still enjoyed this very much---delicious looking and tasting through and througu.
