I love this place! Our entire office is obsessed with their breakfast sandwiches (make sure you make it before 10:30am) and their falafel on Wednesdays. The staff is excellent and the owner makes a point to learn all of the regulars names. He's friendly and welcoming and it is a great small business to support. Their salad bar is significantly better than other cafes nearby -- it's always fresh and they rotate pasta salads etc. Highly recommend whether you need a quick coffee, breakfast or lunch. read more

I was a little overwhelmed I think when I walked in because everybody was so nice and I was trying to read the menu, but then I saw the salad bar (which are extinct in today's world) and I just couldn't choose! The salad bar looked so good and fresh I had to try it. Went for a salad which was yummy! and then the chicken chili which warmed my heart on a cold day. Not only were the people nice and understanding of my overwhelmedness (that's a word, I made it up) but they were genuinely happy to be there and happy to be serving good food. I've quickly become a regular here. I can't believe I looked passed this place for 3 years. Great customer service, quick and fresh home like food. I'm really a fan of their breakfast omelettes. What I've tried so far: The CPU GOURMET- Absolutely delicious! Farmers market omelette- also great! Good portion and Potatoes are season well. Western omelette- good, but I'd rather pick from specialty menu. Napoli- can't go wrong with this sandwich Half tuna sandwich- half cracked wheat w/favs beans soup. I don't think I have enough space to write how great this place is! First, consumer service is great! They take the time out to find out what your name is and make sure your order is how you like it. Second, everything on the menu is great! I can say that because I've had just about everything on the menu. The food is so fresh and delicious! Holy smokes - 5 easy stars! This place has great vegetarian options (I'd recommend the veggie panini and kale super salad) and makes a fantastic bagel sandwich - they're even in the running versus a classic New York bagel (gasp). These bagels are generously filled with *real* cheese and freshly cooked eggs - toasted to the perfect crispy exterior, soft interior. The owners and workers are all so kind - they are the type of small business you want to support. Food is exactly on the mark, but weirdly greedy check-out man. I'm the embarrassed person whose $20 bill you refused to take. Place is sparkly clean, and always efficient. I got great service ordering the food, but an unpleasant check out interaction. The easiest 5 stars I gave to date. City Place Cafe is literally the best place to have lunch in DC---especially in the Farragut North area. I love their sandwiches and soups! Their daily specials are mouthwatering... and their salad bar, my favorite, is simply outstanding!! Everybody working at City Place Cafe are friendly and warm. The owners are amazing and it's impressive how they know their customers by their names. You go in and they are always welcoming and smiling. They also go the extra mile... Today, I forgot my wallet there and by the time I realized it, they were already closed. I reached out to them on their FB page and gave them my name and number in case they found anything... and they did! I can't believe I've worked a block away from this place for over six months and am only now just discovering it! I've walked by it countless times and have never gone in. But because of the rain today, I wanted something close by that wasn't Potbelly, Chopt, Noodles & Company, etc., so I decided to stop in. To describe them in one word - EXCELLENT. I had the Napoli panini (no onions), and it was delicious! I'm always hesitant to get paninis, because they can get soggy real quick. This one was perfectly crunchy, while still being warm and gooey inside. Prices are very reasonable, considering how large the sandwiches are. The staff was also extremely warm and pleasant. First off, this place has good food, good selection, decent price--cheaper than Market 2 Market around the corner. Secondly, I am happy to patronize local, family owned businesses over a chain anyday. However, the management is atrocious. I've seen the staff be yelled at, right in front of my face. Hello, awkward. Additionally, for a place that should be appealing to their loyal customers, there's not much incentive. I don't mind spending a little bit more at a place that may have a higher overhead, but $4 for a bagel and coffee? I even brought this up to one of the employees (not in a jerky way, I'd been going there for over a year) and was snapped at that I can get the cheaper crap across the street. I took his advice: Capitol Grounds charges a buck less and is just fine. I don't blame him for this attitude, I blame management, who instructs the employees to nickel and dime the customers for substituing one cheese for another. Lastly, they have taken away the ability to taste the soup. I have no clue why they would do this--if the issue is that people are sampling and squandering their precious soup, I don't like the feeling that you regard your clientele with suspicion. I'm not sure that I've ever sampled soup there and not bought a cup, but I'm not buying it if I have no clue what it tasted like. I left and went to Quizno's, where the guy smiled and let me sample the chili, no problem. I bought a cup. City Place is the hidden gem of the Farragut area. Their soups are incredible, sandwiches are filling, flavors are well-balanced and absolutely delicious. On top of it all they are well-priced. Absolutely in love with this place! I highly recommend the Washingtonian, San Franciscan, and the Miami sub sandwiches. The meats are fresh and delicious and there are always new options for the salad bar and daily specials. The staff are incredibly friendly and remember your name after only a few visits. I've noticed that it is hard to find a decent lunch place in Downtown DC where your wait won't be long during lunch rush and your food actually tastes good! I've never waited more than a few minutes and have never been disappointed with the food at City Place. Yes. Just yes. Amidst a sea of chain restaurants (Subway, Potbelly, etc...), City Place Cafe offers home-cooked food, some with Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influences, and all delicious. I usually try to check their Facebook page to see what the specials are, but it's never make-or-break: I always end up going there if it's on my mind. The sandwiches and panini are on soft bread, stuffed with fillings, and super tasty, also well-worth the prices. The soups are fantastic, and a far cry from other downtown lunchtime buffet-style options. Their salad bar is always changing, and filled with a variety of veggie salad/salsa/side dishes. The owner is great, and always makes it a point to say hello and talk soccer with us. This is a gem of a lunch spot, and worth the couple extra dollars you might spend, when compared to Subway, or the like. read more

I have gone to this cafe before for breakfast items. I have friends that come to this cafe as well. Today the line was long and I walked up to get ketchup packets and was going to walk around and see what else was in the store (for those that may not know, the store is a walk around area) I found it extremely unnecessary that the owner came up to me with his hands out asking for the ketchup packets and saying that I could at least "ask". When I told him I was going to buy something he said: "it's ok, you don't have to". It was rude and very unprofessional to do to any customer and I will never ever come here again and I will let people know not to come here as well. I called to make a complaint and was told that the manager said I was stealing ketchup packets. I'm not sure why anyone would want to steal any cheap ketchup packets and I wasn't even near the door. I told them that it isn't right to assume you don't know who I am or what I'm doing. You don't treat customers like that, period. To them, it didn't matter if I was buying something cause I have to "politely ask" which is some BS. The employee hung up on my face. I didn't know there was such thing as a ketchup packet police. I just don't think it was necessary to do that and so unprofessional and it's interesting how you think someone is stealing from you, really all this over some ketchup packets? I would've paid for the damn ketchup packets myself if it was that much of a damn problem. I will never come here again and I'll be making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau as well. read more

I love a simple turkey bacon LTO and I got a sad piece of turkey, no bacon, shredded lettuce that couldn't stay on the sandwich, one slice of onion and half a tomato. On stale rye.
