This place has a great selection of "international" t For me this mean is can all the spices for Mexican food, Nigerian food and Indian food!! I came with a list of herbs, pulses and beans i needed. Actually pretty excited for this review! So while everyone has been going crazy due to Covid-19. And Rightfully so. This supermarket is still very stocked! They still have a lot of stuff. I was really surprised when i walked in and was able to get rice, meat, eggs, cheese, breakfast foods, laundry detergent, brooms, etc. I'm not sure if you all live near one of these markets but please search for a local one and stop in today! read more

This City Market branch tends to get a bad rep; a lot of people I know are not fond of the area, particularly at night. However, I do think this supermarket has a couple bright spots. The items here are pretty "international." In other words, you can find a lot of imported goods. Much of my focus was on the Latin American and European (mainly Eastern European) products. There is a solid selection of packaged pastries and breads from around the Americas to go along with what City's bakery makes. However, I say the quality of most of the packaged pastries and breads are a 2/5. I bought a few things to try and found them to be stale, dry, and old; this is especially true for the terrible Conchas. I do like the selection of bottled drinks, though. The European goodies were nice to see. Among my favorite finds were the Kinder products, especially Happy Hippo! It's in the aisle with many other European chocolates. There's also a small but alright selection of smoked fish in another aisle. Overall, it's an 'okay' market. It's dingy/dim inside, but I'll give this place 2/5 for the interesting imported products. It's unfortunate that this was a step back from Foodtown, which was awful too. I should know, I used to work there. The store gets credit for really catering to international shoppers, especially after Foodtown went down. There is a large population of spanish, carribean and Eastern European people in the area and the goods needed for their respective cultures and cooking needs which is nice. This is where it stops though, the prices are quite high here for a store that I would think caters to low income shoppers but instead Preys on people who are uninformed or they can get better deals but can't even reach a store that has them so they're forced to settle. Even the store brand of their products - parade, arent really anything to jump at price wise, not to mention very good. The staff here isn't very friendly either, most of the cashiers are ok just don't ask too many questions, it doesn't seem like their English is very strong. Manager(s) seem to understand better but are not interested in talking. Instead of helping bag or shoppers to their cars it seems there are staff there watching you like hawks at the exit checkout so nothing leaves the store unpaid I would guess. Unless you really need a specific thing you're used to cooking/using in a foreign country, I'd skip this place. read more

I have been to this supermarket 2 times in my 7 years of living around the corner. The first time during check out a couple of the items rang up diffrent prices and they said old prices were up and today i needed to grab a few things for my father so i picked up the items and went to check out. They are getting older so I do most of the running for them. Upon check out i told he cashier i was using my fathers card and would show her my id. My mother, his wife was there also with her id. I was told by the supervisor to call my father who is almost 70 and has no interest in cell phones to send a picture of his Id. I understand identity theft but discernment should of been used in this situation. I will starve before I ever set foot in this establishment again or give them my money. I will continue to drive 15 mins out of the way to a supermarket where I can purchase things for my parents without getting hassled. This supermarket is in my neighborhood which is predominantly mixed with Haitian, African, Caribbean descent, and a sleuth of white foreigners. Within this melting pot we have a couple small grocery stores like Extra and Pioneer then we have City which use to be called Fine Fare. What tweaks my nerves about these places is they PURPOSELY OVERCHARGE. So today as I did not want to travel to Union to go to Target I stopped her for Almond milk for my protein shakes. The milk is prices at $4 49 when at any given creditable store this same brand of mile is $3.49. Why is this product a whole dollar more here, Almond milk is as common as whole milk. So I asked the cashier IF the store Price Match. She blinked several times as if I were a person with 3 heads. She didn't even know what Price Matching was, I asked another cashier whom was Hispanic and English was as bad as the first cashier's knowledge! I do not mind patronizing smaller grocery chains, but what I do mind is getting RAPED for the basic necessities! I think more ppl should ask for fairness so they the people shopping in "certain" areas aren't being made to pay more simply because the MAN wants to stick it to them unfairly. I paid for the milk but I will not be back! And my cashier did ask another person NOT SURE WHAT their TITLE was but they quickly said NO! Too often people misinform others because their lazy. But the fact is all money is green doesn't matter who it comes from. Therefore all consumers need to stand up and question these establishments who are quick to cheat you, give you poor quality service and food, and be rude about it. read more
