​Out at Woodfield Mall, we tried City Works based on a Google Maps suggestion. It's a large, corporate, upscale dining spot. If you're a beer drinker, they have a massive selection on tap (about 90 taps--and no, that's not a typo!). They also have a large patio that looks like a great spot when the weather is nice. Inside, there's a good mix of low-tops, high-tops, banquettes, and booths. All the tabletops feature copper tops with wood trim, and exposure to water and food over time has given each table a unique patina. ​We arrived right as they were switching over from the brunch menu to dinner, and the staff made us feel very welcome. ​What We Ordered: ​Smoked Brisket Reuben Eggrolls: We ordered these special eggrolls for the table. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and since many traditional eggrolls contain shrimp, he was excited to try these. He said they were the best eggrolls he's ever had (though he admitted he doesn't eat them often!). He paired it with a Guinness Zero non-alcoholic draught and was amazed by how close it tasted to the original. ​Fish Tacos ($19): Recommended by another reviewer, these come with three cornmeal-battered, fried Mahi-Mahi tacos topped with cilantro lime cream and fresh micro cilantro. They were crispy and very tasty. If you're usually sensitive to cilantro, you might still enjoy these--I mostly tasted a bright, lemony freshness rather than heavy cilantro. ​Sides (Broccoli Rabe & Asparagus): I substituted chips for a vegetable side. Due to a mix-up in the kitchen, I got to try the broccoli rabe first, though it turned out way too spicy for anyone at our table. My actual order was asparagus--my absolute favorite--but it was a bit disappointing, as the bottom half of each stalk was woody and fibrous. ​Fish & Chips ($21.50): My friend went with this traditional entry. At that price point, he was expecting three fillets, but he couldn't finish the two that were served and took some home. Overall, a solid entrée. ​Classic Breakfast ($15.50): My husband got this from the brunch menu. This was a great pop in!! They have alot of restaurants in the area but this one has a rather unique menu so that drew me in. It is located in an easy to find area however the parking lot fills up pretty fast being that it's connected to a hotel. The restaurant was very clean inside and outside. Came in after the dinner rush for a late bite, and the experience was less than stellar. The main femme presenting bartender disappeared after dropping menus and her manager had to make drinks and take our order. The manager was great and we were super happy with the NA options. The NA mojito was delicious. Food was expected for suburban pub fare but the menu having a vegetarian menu in a QR code was great for my friend. Fish and chips came with two very small pieces of cod. It was not worth the price point and did not have malt vinegar. The really appalling part of the visit was the raucously drunk businessmen at the end of the bar who were loudly bragging about putting their drunk friend into his jeep in front of the restaurant and letting him drive home. The men also took it upon themselves to touch my friend and I and get upset when we would not entertain his conversation and kept telling him to leave us alone and not touch women ever. The bartenders did nothing during this confrontation and continued to serve old fashioneds to these clearly inebriated men. Ambience? It's a suburban stand alone restaurant that looks like the granite counter section at a big box hardware store. The broccoli was good and the finger potatoes were very good. The potatoes were nicely seasoned. My favorite part of the dish. Too bad the steak was only good. We had a desert special. Our waiter Rizzo was awesome!! So kind hearted and down to earth! Please ask for his section whenever you go in and omg I can't forget about Sarah rose! Although we didn't sit in her section she was such a sweetheart and answered all of our questions! It was my first time here and my friend and I had an awesome time! The restaurant was clean and full of life as soon as they opened at 11am. Unfortunately We didn't get to try any of the beers on tap but I did have a peach chiller which was delicious! I do recommend. 10 out of 10! As far as lunch my friend ordered the mahi mahi taco which she loved and said tasted great! We came by for a late lunch and drinks. Parking across the street was pretty empty but completely filled by the time we left. Inside, it was mostly empty. The 3 of us got seated at a semi circle booth near the wall menu. As a cider drinker, I was happy to see more than angry orchard on the menu. Unfortunately, one option (Blake's) was not available. I ended up having a glass of the remaining two (Ace and Ebis). My wife got the nashville chicken wrap. I tasted and I admit it was spicy and fitting of the name in a good way. She only managed to get through less than half of it. The side fries were very tasty. When happy hour rolled around during our visit, I went for HH queso dip. Chips were good. Dip was decent. It had meat in it which I felt was unnecessary though. Service felt very mediocre. Server came by a handful of times but never took initiative to refill waters. Was given the check before we asked for it. Then server came back right away to run payment but we didn't have a card out yet. We had an annoying little fruit fly buzzing around us the whole time. Where there's one... Slight pet peeve: There was another party seated in the booth next to us. Their toddler accidentally flung some water(?) at us at one point. I get that kids happen but still SMH when I looked around and realized we were the only two tables in the very large, empty hall. Would have appreciated more space buffer when possible. I did a to go order. The place had a nice ambiance and they had a nice outdoor area. Being gluten sensitive they had a good choice of food options. I opted for the salmon dish. The photo doesn't do it justice as a Togo . Very tasty and the side of vinaigrette was very tasty. Prices are average to high and there is a surcharge of 3% on credit cards but not cash or debit. I stayed in Schaumburg for only three days and I ended up eating here four times, partly because of convenience, but also the food was delicious and the staff was phenomenal. I was served more than once by a delightful server named Sararose. She was attentive and friendly and part of the reason I came back so many times. If you share reviews with your staff internally, I would love for them to all know what a great job they are doing. Came here solo after a tiring morning at work (ended up being a late afternoon meal), and this place was exactly what I needed. The food absolutely hit the spot--I left feeling refreshed and energized! I've come here several times and have always enjoyed the food. Most recently, I tried the Grilled Lemon Salmon and loved it! It was flavorful, filling, and beautifully presented (see photo). I also enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon blanc that complemented the meal wonderfully. Been here a few times, once for dinner and a couple time for happy hour. Beware that their parking lot is really tiny, so you'll probably either end up doing street parking or having to walk a bit. One weird thing I have to call out is if you go to an Old Town Pour House (in Oak Brook or Naperville), they have the same menu as here. Turns out they have the same owners, and I assume at one point they got bought out or something. I have to call out that this place does not shy away from the spicy, which I appreciate. The Nashville hot nachos and chicken has a lot more heat than I expected from a small chain. Same for their scorpion burger, so buyer beware, but if you enjoy spice you won't be disappointed. They have a nice patio we've been to for happy hour, where you can get a beer and a couple bacon cheeseburger sliders for $10, and they have half off apps. The food is solid and the patio is a good way to enjoy warmer days. Service is good, but you'll want to make sure you get your last drinks in before happy hour ends. Overall this is a place I know we'll come back to, either for an early family dinner or a night out if we can find a babysitter for the night. read more

We ended up getting lucky and finding 2 spots at the bar so we spent the night there. The bartender was excellent. They have a wide variety of different beers on their beer menu. I was pleasantly surprised with how many they offered. I ordered the beer flight and they were all very good. One of them was a strawberry basil beer, so that was interesting! As a catholic, I was looking for a good fish and chips last Friday. I went out on a limb and decided to try City Works. I'm so happy I did! We started with the crab fondue- which being someone who isn't a fan of crab, I'm surprised I liked this as much as I did! We also got the pretzel bites which were soft and chewy and a great little snack! The fondue was very rich, so if you decide to get it, I would recommend only sticking with that unless you have a big group- because it was quite filling! It is goat cheese based, which I love, but it wasn't super tangy. So if you are someone who's not the biggest fan of goat cheese because it has a little pungent taste, I wouldn't write this appetizer off! Definitely worth the try. The star of the show was the fish and chips. The batter was light and airy, and the fish was flaky and didn't have any fishy taste. It also was not rubbery in the slightest, which I find to be the biggest issue with some fish fry. Their coleslaw was good, however, not personally a fan of the red onion in it. I did get honey mustard on the side and it was DELICIOUS. Sweet and tangy, perfect consistency for dipping! The booths are quite deep and the inside is a slightly more upscale sports bar vibe- but don't get it twisted, I still wore sweatpants and was perfectly fine! Our server was a little soft spoken and we had to wait occasionally, but I will assume it's because it was busy and the first day where it was above 50 degrees in the Chicago area for awhile. So I've gone to city Works a few times. Food is very delicious. Service is good. So I ordered the chicken picante dish with the broccoli cleaning. I'm not sure what they put in their broccolini, but I took a couple of bites and it was hot like they put some kind of hot pepper flakes on it really didn't say anything in the description. But that's OK I can handle a little heat lol but it would've been nice if they would've put that broccolini off to the side other than putting it on top of the mashed potatoes in the chicken, our service was OK just did her job. Didn't really do anything above and beyond to impress me, but that's OK. I asked her that I really like Als. Cheese curds were your basic Certco or other food service but I really appreciated the tomato basil sauce that accompanied the curds. (I'm from Wisco so I'm pretty picky about my curds...)
