I would give 4 stars for my visit at Stonewood Ale House. I came in on a Thursday night and they had some good drink specials like $3.75 pints of Miller Lite and $4.75 pints of Blue Moon. I enjoyed the mushroom burger as well - very tasty, and I don't know what kind of brand of buffalo sauce they have or if they make it in house, but it is delicious - totally recommend you add it as a side. The bar and restaurant itself are both pretty massive and they have some outdoor seating available if it's nice out. The food prices are a bit expensive and service could be a bit friendlier, but overall a nice place to stop in for a pint in the Schaumburg area. read more

Happy Hour is 3 to 6 PM Monday thru Friday, offering $2 to $3 off beers, wines, and 'well-drinks'. Stonewood Ale House has over 50 craft beers on draft or in bottles. About 1/4th of the food here has a Mexican theme. The rest is mostly Burgers, Steaks, Chops, Salads, and other common Gastro-Pub fare. The service here is good, the ambiance is warm and comforting (with the restaurants wood plank walls and dimmer lighting), and the charming scent of burning logs is prevalent, coming from the numerous fireplace spread about. The smell and taste of these wood fires is exactly what makes this place worth the drive. And it IS worth the drive. I got the Pot Roast Sandwich and it was yummy. Just DON'T get the Mexican stuff if you can help it. read more

This was an online order so no clue about the ambiance. I also don't know who delivered the food (grubhub?) so nothing is noted about that. I'm ordered a cheeseburger medium with French fries. I was given a time and my food arrived twenty minutes early I ripped into the bag like a four year old on Christmas Day to find my burger. It looked like a pub burger. Potatoes was acceptable, but I was not the best person ever that I have. I would re-order again but maybe next time I'll go there and try to in restaurant experience. I'm sad to share, we didn't have a better dining experience here, as Stonewood is a "stone's throw" from our home and in a convenient location near Woodfield Mall. However, we tried to enjoy what we could from our late lunch meal. The bright spot? Our server, Matt, who was so polite and attentive. Super nice too. The French martini I had was not bad and my husband opted for a draft beer. We were craving fish and chips and excited about the meal, since this place popped up #2 on my search for "fish fry near me." (#1 showed Miller's Ale House, which we have tried before). The fish was overcooked, dry, falling apart, and we removed pieces of skin and bones while chewing. The Cesar salad I ordered was just lettuce (mostly white and brown pieces), croutons and no sign of parmesan cheese, like the menu description suggested. The fries tasted good but that was probably the only thing I liked about our food. I asked for a to-go box for half of my meal, but I ended up tossing it when we got home. If we returned, I would likely not order a salad or fish dish. They also offer a rewards program sign-up, which we opted out of. They seem to be known for their BBQ and other more pub-type dishes here. It would likely be a fun place to meet friends for drinks, but it was just a "miss" for us this meal. Lent is coming and I typically go pescatarian until Easter. To be continued... my search for more good places for Friday fish fry in the area. read more

Food and service were great! My only complaint were how the nachos were assembled. It was so hard to eat and there wasn't enough toppings for each tortilla. I'd rather tradional tacos, but I won't hesitate to say that every component of the nachos were delicious. I took my 9 year old daughter on a weeknight We had no trouble finding parking and there was no wait to be seated. The server was fast and accommodating-allowing an unusual substitution when I explained our situation ( picky eaters). The dining area was made to look like an outdoor courtyard, with faux veranda above and gentle lighting. The food was fantastic so I went back the next weekend with both of my daughters! Food was delicious but a tad on the high $ side. I don't care what you say is "normal" to pay these days. $80 for two people to eat is quite a bit for this type of restaurant. However, I don't regret it because it was absolutely delicious and the portions were decent. The fried pickle chips and mozzarella sticks were larger than normal and very tasty. The service was good. So the ale house I wanted to revisit near Woodfield (Bulldog something or other?) closed, unfortunately, and this was where we landed for an early dinner instead. Loving how Yelp's always a help to find new places in the area to try. Service was pretty quick, but on the food front, it was all pretty mediocre. In my efforts to cut back on red meat, I opted for the black bean burger and side of green beans on this visit. It was alright. The black bean patty was heavily seasoned with dry garlic and onion, and I had a major aftertaste. I indulged in a strawberry lemon martini, which was a bit cloyingly sweet and not the most balanced in flavor. As usual, the kids' menu was a hit, both from the child's standpoint of finding something yummy to eat and the parents' from a value perspective. They get a side of choice (tots, fries, green beans), and it comes with a drink for $7-8. Plenty of roomy seating (booths and tables), fireplace on the wall dividing the bar and dining area, and ATM available at the front. read more

They gave us a private room which was very nice cause it was just our group. I ordered the shrimp Taco which was very good. The only set back is that they put so much cheese. I was very disappointed with Stonewood overall. When we arrived, the hostess directed us to a high-top table in the bar area and we went to sit down. The stool/chairs at the table were so wobbly, we were a bit concerned they might be unsafe. We were then directed to take two new stool/chairs which had supposedly recently arrived - they were better, but still a bit wobbly. We were then directed to a regular four-top in another room and that was fine. Then we ordered our food and it arrived. I had asked for my burger to be cooked Medium, but when it arrived it was well-done, somewhat burnt and dried out. Rather than having to return it and wait for another burger I simply put more ketchup on and ate it. It was pretty bad. I doubt I will return to the restaurant - too many issues. read more

Came across this place before we go see our comedy show. And I am a sucker for turkey burger plus not a lot of place carry turkey burger as their options. When I look at their menu where you can substitute the beef to turkey I was so happy. The burger was juicy. We sat at the bar so the bartender was very nice. She makes my margarita so good. First time here, and it fit the bill. Had guests from out of town and needed a place to take them. Found this place on yelp and took a chance taking my guests with hopes that it was going to be good. The prices on the food did not match the quality. $18 burger that should be cooked to the way its order and the beef shouldn't crumble as soon as you pick it up. Had. We order the loaf of bread with garlic butter. The bread was very hard and the butter was frozen. When we told our server about the butter, he responded yeah that's why it comes. Ah, yes. The ambience! The quintessential bar/pub. Loved the look; loved the atmosphere (not too noisy- always a plus!). We walked in, we were promptly greeted by a nice looking fellow who passed us over to someone who - it seemed - knew not where he was taking us- he returned us to the front counter where our nice looking gent took the menus from him and he directed us to a high-top behind the bar- a great location to view the restaurant and take in the menu! A quick local IPA later, hub-hub and I decided to do a nice little split- i got a bowl of chili (sans onions, as is my taste), and also some chicken tenders (breaded with Cap'n Crunch and corn flakes), as well as some pork ribs with fried shrimp. Wow - ok - the food: The chili- for a bowl? It was mighty small. But it tasted great. The only drawback (which i found out over the next few hours) was blowback - methinks the beans hadn't been soaked before cooking (hence the blowback - maybe blowout instead?). Still- it was great. The chicken tenders - coated with Cap'n Crunch and corn flakes - were, at first taste, terrific. But then they quickly overwhelmed with sweetness. Oh my. A few more corn flakes; a bit less Cap'n Crunch, please! Otherwise, delish. Now the piece d'resistance- the pork ribs were absolutely THE BOMB. So tender they fell off the bones. the sauce was spectacular - and the fried shrimp (never a fav of mine normally) were just done up VERY well. Needless to say, we were too full for dessert. I only wish they served flights of beer, as I loved their selection of brews! Yup; we'll be back. Demerits only for the misguided initial server who - apparently- got lost while trying to seat us, and for the too-sweet but otherwise delish chicken tenders!
