Let me preface by saying, the bar staff were great! Visited in the evening and we had excellent service. Excellent! On to the food. We won't be back. Both of us got combo platters with, between us, had a variation of wings, ribs, pulled pork, cole slaw, mashed potatoes and fries. I am guessing this restaurant is trying to make things "their own" by going an non-traditional route with some things and I'm usually fine with that - if I know it in advance. Cole slaw, while it had good flavor, was very heavy on the mayo and contained very large pieces of onion which is not common. I know far too many that don't like onions and this would have been an unpleasant surprise. The mashed had a good flavor as well (but woah, a TINY side that was the same portion as the cole slaw) but it had a spice to it in there - no clue what it was but, again, would have been a huge no to folks like my mother, my kids, etc. Onto the meats. They were OK but so dry if you don't opt to add in some of the sauces. The sauce offerings seemed a little different to us so we went with the "Classic BBQ" and frankly, we both hated it. It seems to have a "Hunts tomato sauce" base. That's exactly what it tasted like. Hunts tomato sauce. I wish I knew it was a tomato sauce base (or tasted like it) because it's very thin and heavy on the tomato flavor. Since we didn't like the sauce, our meats were SO dry b/c they had no sauce on them. Anywho - someone next to us ordered a sirloin, I believe, it looked great. Maybe we just went for the wrong thing. But I could not get that BBQ taste out of my mouth all night. Two 2 meat combos (with $1 upcharge for ribs), one appetizer (queso), a diet soda and 2 Bud Lights ($10 ea!) came to just over $90 before gratuity. We came here while crushing some time while our older son was at an activity and we have to repeat this in a couple of weeks. We will not be back here... we'll have to find another place to spend some time and have dinner. Again, service was TOP NOTCH - no complaints about service. But the food left a lot to be desired. Our second time here, the first being a few years back. Came here after watching a movie next door at the Majestic theater. The ambience is great - large space with casual vibes, lots of screens for sports and ample seating with both high tables and comfortable booths. The place was not too crowded but there were quite a few people there. It was around 8:30 when we came in so a bit later than the usual dinner time. The menu is quite extensive with a wide variety of dishes and even barbecue platter options. We ordered the smoked chicken wings to share - they came with a dry chili rub and 2 sauces - bbq and a Carolina mustard sauce. They were good tender tasty. For my main dish I ordered the blackened salmon with salad. The salmon was cooked well crispy on the outside and tender flaky inside. It came with deviled eggs too - which were ok - a bit spicy. The salad had cucumbers tomatoes and onions, but they were such tiny pieces and not a lot of- hard to find lol among all the greens. They should have either added more or just cut them in bigger pieces. They were literally like a few millimeters wide - almost microscopic!! The hubs ordered the root beer white russian drink which he liked. He ordered the rigatoni pasta which he enjoyed - tasty, tangy creamy with a touch of spice. Much like a certain factory of cheese curds (albeit with a more manageable menu), you won't be wowed, but probably not overly disappointed if you get what it is familiar: the flatbread Margherita pizza is pretty good, though. Servers are pleasant and attentive. The seating is spacious, with ample room between tables and a very high ceiling, which makes the ample TVs feel less intrusive. Both tables and booths are high. Free-standing tables have essentially comfortable bar stools with backs. Thus, if you are or will be accompanied by someone who had mobility challenges, this might be a tough spot. Very disappointing. I ordered a simple salmon salad before a movie and it took 30 minutes. When it came out, the salmon was okay but the salad was old and the deviled eggs looked like they came out of a can. It's definitely gone way down hill and I won't be back. I've been here once for dinner and once for brunch, so this is a review for both. It's a big space and my friend and I didn't have any issues being seated either time. Family friendly vibe at dinner. Our waitresses both times were attentive and friendly so five stars for the service. My main issue unfortunately was the food. Dinner was overall pretty good with a large amount of food. I got shrimp tacos and they were pretty yummy. Fries were fine. Brunch was an enormous disappointment. I got the egg tacos and everything was so basic and under seasoned. I'm a huge brunch girl and I can easily make a meal like this at home a hundred times better. My friend didn't enjoy her breakfast food any more than I did. This was my second time dining at City Works, and both visits have been fantastic. On my recent trip to the Watertown location, my friends and I tried a variety of dishes. The pesto margarita flatbread was spot on -- thin, crispy, and perfectly saucy (although I would've preferred a bit more pesto drizzle). The Nashville hot chicken nachos were my personal favorite, with a unique twist: they use white beans instead of black beans, which really made the dish stand out. We also tried the chicken tinga tacos -- a nice surprise with the guac inside the taco rather than on the side. Lastly, the rigatoni was a hit -- I'm not sure what was in the sauce, but it was absolutely delicious. Despite the restaurant being packed, everything moved smoothly. Our waiter went above and beyond, helping us modify dishes since one of us is vegetarian, ensuring we could enjoy everything with the meat and chicken on the side. I wound up eating here two days in a row out of sheer convenience but the food and atmosphere here was actually pretty comforting, in a generic brewery/chain steakhouse kind of way. Nothing here really stuck out, though if you're simply craving a bar in the Watertown area to kill some time before or after a movie, City Works more than fits the bill. Went with the sliders one night; the chicken tacos the next. The sliders were all right, very much on the dry side, and could have used some extra cheese or mayo or avocado or something to hold it all together. The tacos were actually pretty solid. Definitely not authentic Mexican or even Tex-Mex; the tortilla was the best-tasting part. The chicken was super dry (think dry breast with the faintest coating of sauce) but I liked the pickled onions and corn salsa. The menu definitely reminds me of the Cheesecake Factory. Had a few drinks that weren't the beers on tap. Not worth the price or the calories. The space is great for large groups. read more

Six of us got lucky at prime time on a Friday night to get a high top. Chairs are padded and have backs and are very comfortable. Everything else was just okay. Service started off okay but after we got our food, no one was offered another drink, dishes not removed. They were super busy which I'm sure is the reason. Food-wise, those of us that had chicken in our dishes all agreed that the chicken just wasn't good. Guessing it came as frozen pre-cooked chunks. The texture was weird and no seasoning at all on them. I did like the other flavors on my cajun chicken pasta though. The best dish on the table was the Vegan Kung Pao Cauliflower but it was super oily. Also didn't care for the fact that the only wines offered were on tap and ridiculously expensive. They had a soccer game on that my bf was really excited to see (kudos for playing soccer games, which not all places do). This is a classy sports bar located in the Yards. It's a good spot to grab a bite to eat, watch a game, and try a local beer on tap. Surprisingly enough I've never gotten a beer here. But they offer so many, that the menu takes up an entire wall! I've only ever gotten the Tex Mex Mac n Cheese. It is pretty good, has a kick but not too spicy where you can't eat it. The other customer complained again so our waiter was busy fixing the table and chair for them while we were waiting for drink refills. When waiter did come around, he wasn't apologetic, didn't bother him we were waiting. So that was disappointing. Atmosphere is nice, sports on the TVs which I enjoy. Why complain about that? It's a big restaurant with clean restrooms. Not sure if I would come again any time soon. Maybe if those customers aren't there, service would have been better. Try at your own risk. We ordered the chopped bbq chicken salad and brisket tacos to share. Both were at best "ok." Whatever gray flavorless meat was in the tacos really shouldn't be called brisket. Overall, there was no flavor. How is that possible in a taco? We asked for fries and got chips instead, and they were overcooked and saltless. We started with the pretzel bites. We both immediately commented on how they did NOT taste like pretzels at all, but french toast!! Not sure if this was on purpose or if there was a mix-up in the kitchen? Regardless, it was not really an issue on our end as we were starving and ate them anyways. For my entree, I ordered the City Works Burger, medium-rare. It came out to a perfect and soft medium-rare as ordered, which in itself is rare nowadays. We went to City Works to celebrate my sister's birthday. The place is beautiful with high ceilings and modern decor. Everyone's food looked great and they all enjoyed it!! I had a burger and it was amazing, being a burger snob, I was happy with the results! The shoestring fries were also very good. First we got our soda's and they we like just soda water no flavor and the appetizers, spicy shrimp weren't very spicy then got my fish and chips the fries were good but the fish was flavorless fish wasn't seasoned and batter wasn't seasoned either! If you're in the area and don't know where to eat - choose City Works. If you're looking for a place to eat on NFL Sunday, this is the spot! I just want to get straight to the food and service. We arrived around lunch time and surprisingly, parking was easy to find. We got lucky and found parking right in front of the entrance. The host sat all three of us in less than 5 minutes and the waitress took our drink order as soon as we got comfortable in our seats. Now for the food: Fried Pickles: DELICIOUS. I highly recommend. Duck Confit Nachos: Loved the presentation and I wanted more. It was very tasty and it was enough to feed two people. Mac and cheese with steak: This was my boyfriend's order and he said it was delicious. Ahi Tuna Tacos: Okay, this is where I was a bit disappointed. It was bland and nothing to jump up in my seat about. Isn't the seafood supposed to be the best in the East Coast? They should take this off their menu. Nothing to be excited over. If you're looking for beer, this is a great place to go. If you're looking for food, probably not. Food: I got the City Works Classic Burger. Unfortunately, the burger was not very good. The beef patty was dry, the bread was brittle, and I didn't like the bread-to-meat ratio. It was seasoned well but only on the bottom so the flavors were uneven. The fries were also nothing great. 5/10. Ambiance: Sports bar vibes as there's a ton of beer and sports playing in the background. If you like beer you should come here 7/10. Price: The burger was $17 and it was not good so it definitely was not worth my money. However, the beer prices are good with an average of $8 per beer and you can do half sizes for $4 and free samples 6/10.
