A bustling spot filled with students, locals, and medical workers alike, this bar is a pretty decent spot right in the midst of Brigham Circle. Though it can be quite noisy and tight, especially during sporting events, the food and drink isn't bad - especially after a long day at work, making it an alright joint to hang at from time to time. Anyway, decided to go for something on the more regular side: Fish & Chips Honestly, it was pretty decent as the battered fish had a good crunch to it, along with how soft, moist and flaky the cod was. Plus, his item paired well with the Maine Lunch beer, as the crisp refreshing beer contrasts with the grease and oils of the cod and fries. Only real downsides were that the dish felt a bit on the heavy side with how dense the oil felt... along with how the cole slaw was kind of... disappointing, even for what cole slaw typically is. Came for weekday lunch. I thought the food was alright, nothing special. I got the fried fish sandwich and the one piece of lettuce in there was a little wimpy. Service was also fine. Fork had some dried salad on one of the prongs, which was a little disconcerting. The biggest plus was that the space was much bigger and brighter than it appears on the outside. This was very good, but at 8.2 alcohol content I only had one. I ordered their Mission burger which is a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was very crowded at 5:30 on a Tuesday which surprised us, but it definitely boosted the moody atmosphere of the restaurant. I think the location of the restaurant keeps it busy at most times in the evening! The service was a little slower than what I prefer but they seemed a little short staffed for the evening and I can't blame them. The food was really great which made up for it!! I came to mission b&g on a Saturday for brunch. The visuals of this restaurant are gorgeous. Effectively floor to ceiling windows with light pouring through. Our server was prompt and helpful. She also was nice enough to put a wedge under our wobbly table. For a drink I had the paper plane, a well balanced sourish bourbon cocktail that went down real easy. For brunch I had the vegetarian skillet. It needed a bit of salt, but that was readily available. The home fries on the bottom were well cooked and I appreciated the adornment with two fried eggs. This being my first non fast food eats In Boston is disappointing. I ordered the mission burger and it was definitely among the worst of the 20$ burger I have had. The bun was practically stale and the ingredients just seemed cheap. The truffle fries up charge was also disappointing they just dropped a spoonful of Parmesan over one part of the fries and called it a day it was not tasty. The inside is nice and all but there was a weird smell as I walked in. Not sure what it was. The guy who gave me my order was nice though. I probably would not come back here again though. Everything was great except I thought the guac in the nachos could have been more fresh. For an entree, I got their salmon, which was the highlight of the meal for me. This is a traditional American bar that honestly gave me a lot what I am asking for in a bowl of chowder. The ratio of potato to cream is perfect, allowing for a smooth, thiccc soup. My only complaint? There isn't enough clams for the play of textures of chunky potatoes, silky soup and chewy clam blending in my mouth. It is still a solid bowl though. So solid that I got another item in their menu to try - their shrimp scampi. Great dark wood but big ceilinged airy space with surprisingly good food. Had dinner with 3 friends we split the calamari and I had the steak and blue salad and paper plane cocktail. Cocktail was a really well done version. The calamari was good with 3 sauces and good spiced peppers but was a disappointingly small portion even for 1 person never mind 3. The steak and blue salad was exceptional - with perfectly cooked rare steak, blue cheese, greens, crunchy onion strips and ranch dressing. I really liked the blackberry marg, and my cousin enjoyed the strawberry smash. The environment was lively and I liked the pubbish feel. I had the seafood risotto with mussels shrimp and calamari. There was a tiniest little hardness to the rice grains, otherwise this is a marvelous dish and I would highly recommend it. The burger was juicy and I loved the thin cut fries. The nachos were a good in between meal snack with the additional chicken and guacamole. I used to love this place, I've been here so many times before over the years it was a hangout spot for good music, some food, served as the perfect hangover place to sit and watch the games but I'm not sure if it's covid or just new management but this place really changed for the worst. I recently visited here and as soon as I walked in I'm waiting at the door for at least 5 min, no one comes over, no one seats us, mind you the place isn't busy at all. Ok, no problem there. A few groups come in after us, they all get menus and their order taken (ok that makes sense they probably didn't realize I sat down), I flag down a waitress and she finally takes our order, messed the whole meal up (ok maybe she's just off her game, I'll be patient), then she never comes to check on us, not even once (like I'm thirsty can I get another drink?) so I go to the bar and order my own drink, now we're ready to go, she still doesn't check on us or look our way, sitting trying to flag her down for like 20 min cuz she's just off in the back somewhere she finally comes out and checks the table next to us and they're pissed because they were ready to leave too.
