We had brunch at LuLu's yesterday. Between 4 of us, we ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches, an eggs Benedict and the Southern Belle tacos. Bfast sandwiches and eggs Benedict were all good, decent portions and tasty. The tacos, on the other hand, were a huge disappointment. After eating brunch at 11 am, I had to go home and eat lunch because I was still hungry. For $16, I was expecting 2 big fluffy pancakes, large pieces of really spicy fried chicken, because it was described as Nashville Hot Chicken, smothered in a lot of spicy slaw. Instead, the pancakes were very thin and tiny, about 4" across. The chicken was tasty, but not even slightly spicy, also very small to fit in the mini pancakes, and there was about a teaspoon of slaw on each taco. I think the chef could do a much better job on this menu item. The ambience was fun - it's a lively sports bar. The drink menu is extensive. read more

We needed a Saturday brunch place that would accommodate a Vegan, and this place fit the bill just fine. Somehow we managed to get a parking spot right out front, and were seated immediately at a high top. Two of us had a Peach Bellini and we both loved it. Instead of being served in a tiny champagne flute it was served in a regular wine glass. Well worth the $8 price. For meals I had their version of a McMuff which was totally delicious. Flavorful juicy sausage, a fried egg and American cheese. Perfectly seasoned, as were the tasty breakfast potatoes. Others enjoyed the Eggs Benedict which had an avocado mousse on a biscuit, the Tots dish which had eggs and a cheese sauce, bacon and ranch. Very rich. The Vegan dish needed kicking up with some hot sauce, but he liked it, and it was a good thing he likes dry toast, because that toast looked very dry indeed. Our service was terrific. I've been meaning to go to Lulu's for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! I went on a Tuesday when they have trivia and we had so much fun. They got a new chef, Chef Dan, so the menu is even better than ever! The ambiance is perfect for a bar-esque night and especially great for trivia! They have a big drink menu too with lots of cocktails. The service was good, especially because it wasn't too busy when I went. We got a ton of food: duck poutine, candied pork belly, ribs with sides, sirloin steak, chicken & waffles, chimichanga, salmon, and chicken & potatoes! There's a ton here but our favorites were the duck poutine, pork belly, steak, and the salmon. My top 2: poutine and pork belly. The poutine was packed with flavor from the duck and gravy. Pork belly was candied so well and still tender. I didn't love the chicken dishes though as they were a bit dry. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely go again! read more

Also got a refreshing mocktail, after I saw how good a colleague's mocktail looked. Such a shame. Was looking forward to the old Lulus tots and plethora of fantastic IPAs on a nice summer day on the patio. Burger was the worst I've had maybe ever. Smash burger consisted of an unfrozen crunchy bun, single flavorless overcooked patty, couple pieces of lettuce and pickles for $17. None of the interesting beers on their site were available. Tots were soggy covered in buffalo sauce. Waitress gave more tots with the burger even though we ordered a side salad. Congealed cheese served with pretzel. Sad. Two positive takeaways are that the patio is a nice spot and the second waiter offered to replace my beer after it sitting for 5-10 min with a new cold one (mine was plenty cold still, but a nice sentiment). read more

Lulu's is definitely a solid place to go for brunch in the Allston area. I've been wanting to try it for a while and I'm not disappointed! I ordered the breakfast burrito which also came with tots (paid a bit extra for Cajun tots--no regrets at all, they were great). The burrito tasted wonderful--the flavor, the mix of everything in it--I really enjoyed it! One thing I do have to say is that the food there is not exactly unique. There are plenty of brunch places in Boston, and I don't really think anything makes Lulu's stand out particularly. It's you're go-to, solid, and know-what-you're-going-to-get choice. In my opinion, it's just another good brunch place but not much sets it apart. Their food is also more on the greasy side, I can't say I felt fantastic after eating the burrito and tots but I also didn't feel like absolute sh*t either. Came here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a drink and food with a friend. I kept an open mind coming into this place as I did see some mixed reviews from among the Yelpers. It wasn't crowded at all on Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of seatings available inside and out. They do have a large patio in back which is good to bask in the sun with a cold drink. They do have a large menu of brews and cocktails. You won't be disappointed with the selection of the drinks. There is something for anyone. The food on the other hand was a different story. I ended up getting the short rib Mac n cheese, which was very underwhelming and almost tasted like it was made from a boxed Mac n cheese. My friend got the OG burger, which he commented also looked like it was from a box. He did mention the burgers did taste pretty good. Came here for my birthday dinner with a few friends. I was incredibly disappointed by the whole experience, which was a shame, because I heard such great things about this restaurant! I shared I was a pescatarian and wanted a protein to add to my Buddha bowl. Because the salmon add on they advertised was out, I ordered a veggie burger and was given a meat burger. When I took a bite, I realized it was beef. My brother tried it from me, and he agreed it was meat. One friend ordered pasta that wasn't fully cooked, and didn't finish her meal. Another ordered chicken that was undercooked. My only friend that liked her order ordered a deconstructed pot pie, everyone was disappointed, and did not finish their meals. When I told the first server about their mishap of giving me meat, she was awkward taking it back, and did not apologize. A different server came back and apologized, and came with a new dish with the veggie burger saying they'd cover the cost because of their mistake. I found the Buddha bowl flavors underwhelming, so I ordered a Bavarian pretzel in addition because I was hungry and wasn't excited about my dish (the pretzel was fine). When we got the bill (from the original server) she left the charge of the buddha bowl with the burger on the bill, and I had to remind them they told me they'd remove it from the bill. read more

The tomato basil type came with a tasteless basil oil that just made the whole thing oily. The chipotle pork was an interesting combination and I like the substitution of muffin for cornbread, however, the pulled pork was overly sweet and soggy (like cooked in a crockpot) and the cornbread was so soggy it fell apart. The Quesadilla had nice flavors and it was well seasoned but it had some execution problems as well. I have a soft spot for any type of outdoor dining, and Lulu's has won my entire heart over. The outdoor patio has such a cozy ambiance and it's surprisingly huge so all the tables are very spaced apart. The fairy lights are so pretty! As for food, the mama's fried chicken.. perfection. The chicken was juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and it came on top of perfectly seasoned mashed potatoes. The arugula kept the dish from being too heavy. Nice vibes. Terrible food. My wine glass was sticky when I ordered my drink and the straw in my water was bitter. Ordered a sirloin with a balsamic glaze I didn't quite like. I never send food back but it really wasn't good. The waitress was so lovely (the only good part of the experience) and took it back but the steak (when it came back to the table) seemed like they had just rinsed it off and seared it for a brief moment. Walked in at 1pm and 1 person was hanging out at the bar and the workers were just on they're phone and standing around I had to let them know twice that I was just here for a pick up order. Ordered a chicken sandwich and the jalapeño dip with tortillas the sandwich was okay (the only thing I ate). The French fries looked like they were refried from the night before !!! I come here all the time with my partner who works in the area. We've encountered their brunch and their lunch/dinner menu and we have never been disappointed by the food or the service. The atmosphere here is very laid back--you can come in just for food, just for drinks, or maybe a bit of both! They have a superb draft selection and I was a fan of their Salted Caramel Spiked Iced Coffee that I had for brunch and it paired really well with the scrambled eggs I had. For their prices, their portions match. I don't think I've ever had such well-seasoned breakfast potatoes anywhere else, since most other places don't season them at all! I'm a huge fan of their lunch menu and their burgers; probably some of the best burgers I've ever had. The servers are so kind here. Really love coming here. There's so much indoor and outdoor seating. I am gluten free and there were a lot of options on the menu very clearly labeled as GF or not. I am celiac and probably shouldn't have taken the risk to eat their fries but I did eat them and didn't get sick. So I'm not saying If you're celiac to take a risk like that but I'm just saying I did and was okay so I think it's a good sign. I'll absolutely continue to come back. And I like that there was less crust (just a large piece of puff pastry on top) since that is my least favorite part of a pot pie. The service and complete disinterest in providing anything like service at this place was so egregious it is the first time in my life I have walked out, threw cash on the table to cover drinks and given up on ever getting a meal. The reviews made us think this was a cool place to grab a meal. Was there for an hour and twenty minutes. Had two beers I had to grab from the bar myself because the waitress apparently couldn't be bothered. Wow I enjoyed brunch here a couple months ago. The bucket of mimosas was excellent, the multi-potato type home fries were delicious, and everyone enjoyed their food. The staff is attentive, kind, and efficient even when they are busy. And they buggered off when we were enthralled in conversation, but did keep the coffee and water topped off. I was here years ago when the back deck was this cute little area lined in bamboo. It is still lined in bamboo but grew because of Covid into a delightful alfresco place to rate that is bigger than the inside of the restaurant. It's covered, had heated lamps if needed, and had a funky fun vibe. Young people out enjoying the day from coeds to young parents to student with there parents in tow to us entertains friend from out of country. Came here with friends on a busy Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not take reservations; though, their online waitlist was very straight forward. We were given an estimated time of 45 minutes, but was seated within 35 minutes. Lulu's is on a busy street, making it difficult to find street parking as there is no parking lot for customers. For drinks, we ordered the Blood Orange Mimosa ($10), Pear-Pom Mimosa ($10) and Nitro Cold Brew ($6). Both mimosas were oddly presented; filled only half way and unusually warm. The blood orange mimosa was fair and the pear-pom mimosa lacked both pomegranate juice, pear pureé. We also ordered the Cajun Tots ($5), White Trash Hash ($15) and Meaty Masterpiece Omelette ($13). Walked in and could smell the fish and chips cooking. It was all I wanted at that point in time. And it was as good as it smelled. The fish was flaky but not dry, fries were cooked perfectly. Finally got to try this place out this weekend after hearing so much about it. & honestly I thought people may have overhyped this place a tad for me. I did notice that they have a few items on the brunch menu that were unique and fun (i.e. cocktails that feature our favorite cereals!) so maybe I wasn't swept away because I didn't order the right things. However, reviews on here made it seem that the white trash hash was THE thing to order from here so I was really expecting a lot when I ordered it for brunch. Overall, I found it to be good but again I wasn't head over heels with it. I thought the eggs benedict were cooked nicely and had the perfect runniness, but I surprisingly didn't really care too much for the short ribs. However, I do get why people rave so much about this dish because the tater tots were definitely what made the dish. They were super crunchy and not too oily, which I think really helped elevate the dish. I would order this dish just for those tater tots!! Overall, this place is just your average brunch place/ restaurant but a solid choice nonetheless. I loved the vibes here though--super causal and gives you a local neighborhood feel. Really great spot for drinks and delicious food. Extensive beer selection and full bar. The menu accommodates vegan and gluten free dietary restrictions. Everything I have sampled at Lulu's has been unbelievably delicious from the honey hot brussel sprouts, to the amazing mustard sauce that accompanies the warm pretzel rolls and the ricotta donuts served with melted chocolate. Most recent visit ordered the burrata which was served with warm naan bread, a basil pistachio pesto and tomato sauce that packed a ton of flavor with every bite. Ordered the mushroom ramen with a side of mama's fried chicken. The ramen came with a generous serving of vegetables and avocado. The side of chicken was moist and complemented the ramen well. Service was friendly and attentive. Didn't feel rushed despite the place being packed. Heads up this place stays busy and wait times can be long - but so worth it. What an experience. Went in for a brunch, got sat right next to the bathroom and got promptly forgotten. Had to flag down a server to get utensils or any refills on water. Food arrived super late. After we checked with two servers that food wasn't there yet, got told it would be a few minutes. Took over 20 minutes after that for food to come. Food was mediocre at best (overcooked eggs Benedict) and inedible at worst (burnt, but turned over French toast). To be fair, they did take the burnt toast off the bill, but would have preferred to have gotten an edible dish and paid for it. The food was very, very good, The Burger was a good size. it checked off most of the boxes for me. The only gripe I had was, you can't choose how you want your burger cooked. You pretty much get "Well Done" I would have scored this burger higher but even thought it was very good. it wasn't as juicy as I would have liked My Burger was just a bit dry. The hand cut Fries where on point. just crispy enough and soft on the inside. The food came nicely packed in a Environmentally friendly box, Good stuff. There are both high top tables as well as traditional ones, along with a bar, so seating can be whatever you are in the mood for. Our water was a little distracted and it took a bit to flag him down to take our order. We got the mimosa bottle but it was just a bottle of bubbly with a few small carafes of juice. As to the food, we all got variations of omelettes and toast, home fries and corn beef hash. While there was nothing wrong with any of the food that we ordered, there was also nothing innovative or different about it.
