Before I get into the bad, here are some positives about Cityside Subaru. And until my most recent car incident, I would have raved about these strengths to anyone who needed a Subaru. When I bought my car, my interactions with Flavio, one of the sales representatives, was so great that I still remember him 8 years later. I remember how respectful he was with my parents (who came with me to help with the process), how he was not pushy for us to buy at Subaru, and how he encouraged us to make a sound decision by continuing our search with the two other dealerships on our lists. I don't know if he still works there, but I remember recommending Cityside Subaru / Flavio to friends when they were looking at an impreza model (and they also reported having a positive interaction with him). Also the customer service reps I had spoken with before, during, and after my car gets service usually are pretty approachable for my questions. The waiting area is pretty nice and filled with snacks. I work nearby, so this Belmont location has always been convenient for me. So then why such a bad score? Well, recently I had an incident where a belt snapped - and it was after being replaced two years ago as well as having a routine maintenance check up only one month ago. The inspection apparently passed at the time. I don't know if it's faulty material or faulty labor, but my car found itself with a shredded belt resulting in engine failure a week ago from today. When I called to tell Subaru about this, all the rep did was shrug and agree this seemed too soon to happen. And maybe it was a faulty material or bad labor, who can tell, right? Despite the rep listening to me, the end result seemed to be like there was nothing Subaru could to do. Now that I think about it, I don't think there even was an apology from the rep's end besides "things like this happen." Sure, ok that may be true. Things DO happen and faulty car parts exist, so freaking Cityside Subaru should at least have some kind of policy to support the customer when they do. I know next to nothing about cars, and the engine is never opened until I bring it to the car maintenance, so I know for sure this can't be my fault. Yet to be fair, I was not sure what I was expecting from Cityside - maybe a credit for a future inspection (not like I would come back...) or tire rotation or something? Maybe even an acknowledgement Subaru messed up and a reimbursement for at least part of my previous inspection?! I have no idea to be honest. After reflecting on that call, I did feel unsupported as a customer, especially as a loyal customer who has been getting routined maintenance appointments with them since 2019. This is already a long review, but two years ago, I had a similar situation in that my car went in for inspection, had a battery replaced, and then that battery DIED a month later. When I brought the car for a battery check, they did not reimbursement or claim it was their faulty material, but recharged the battery and "gave it back" by keeping it in my car trunk. I'm not sure why they thought I would want it back, and they didnt even ask if I would want to keep it. They also kept trying to blame me for it, saying Ieft the car lights on...but the lights turn off automatically so I don't understand how that is my fault? After reading other people's reviews here on yelp, it truly seems like other people have had issues with Cityside Subaru giving them bad parts, especially batteries. I'm so disappointed to give such a bad review to Cityside. Like I wrote earlier, there clearly were a lot of reasons I continued to get my car serviced here. But their policies (or lack there of) do not support the customer and they clearly use bad car parts. What happened to my car this last time threatened my safety, and the lack of any support loses my trust with them. I think I'll check out the MetroWest dealership for the next time my car needs a service. And maybe you should too if you need your Subaru inspected to ensure your own safety when driving. read more

Well, it looks like my review is adding to the chorus of people unhappy with Cityside Subaru services. I don't think it's a coincidence that people are reporting similar experiences. I've had an observation I'd like to share. I went with a friend to keep them company during a car service. They may have wanted a man to combat the stereotype of everything that goes along with women + cars, but really all I could add was moral support and, perhaps, a well-timed raised eye brow when engaging with the Subaru folks. First, the customer service representative had something on their desk describing their current mood/feeling. This is inappropriate. When you get to work, your mood should be professional and laser focused on the customer. The current feelings of an employee should not be on display. Already I was buckling up for this one. Second, and most importantly, there was an issue with battery drainage. Diagnosis: "Nothing wrong with the car, let's attack your ability to own this fine machinery." How often do you use the car? How long and far do you drive each time? Where do you keep it? You got a battery from AAA before this one? That must have affected this one. As soon as you get home do you turn on all of the lights in your car and then leave?" (okay, that last one didn't happen). Personally, I drive a "fun" non-Subaru car 1-2 times/week and have had it for years. It's low mileage. I've never had trouble with the battery. I wouldn't call myself a car guy but I know enough about cars in general and have done reading about the Subaru battery drainage issue to realize this is not the owner's fault. It's clearly a Subaru issue that they're trying to avoid addressing in any way that will cost them. This is pound foolish. This sounds suspiciously similar to other reviews, as I'm looking at the review from "Libby W. Oct 3, 2025" in my Yelp margin. The service people are slippery. If you know the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George talk about mechanics being less than scrupulous with customers (in this case, David Puddy), that's the feeling I got with the whole Cityside Subaru operation. It's unfortunate, since this remodeled Subaru dealership looks great. But, the cosmetics will not keep the customers coming back if they feel like they're getting taken for a ride. read more

I just picked up my Subaru outback from the service department at Cityside. They gave me a loaner car because they had my for almost a month. They asked me not to put pets in the loaner. Unfortunately I had to take my dog to the vet once during the month. I covered the seats with a dog cover to protect the seat. When I picked up the car it cost me over $4000 to fix the vehicle. Then guy noticed that I had the dog in the car and he made the comment that I was not supposed to have a dog in the car. I guessed he noticed some fur and I explained that I had to take my dog to the vet. It was appalling to me that he would make a comment about something so benign, especially since I did not have my car for a month. My dog did not do any damage to the vehicle. And to top it off I paid over $4000 for the service! Ironically, the advertisements for Subarus say dog approved. The cost of the service could have been a down payment for a new car! read more

Went in to see if some damage was covered by warranty. Came out paying $180 for a required inspection, no warranty coverage, and when I went to another mechanic they said the catalytic was definitely damaged. That was the part that was supposed to be covered by warranty! But Cityside said that part was "completely fine" and that the damage was only to the muffler, and quoted a high price to replace it. My mechanic replaced both (even though one was covered by warranty). Not gonna deal with Cityside again, even if there's possibly a warranty coverage. read more

This is the worst experience I've ever had at a car dealership. I loved my Subaru, but because of my experience with Cityside Subaru, I will never buy another one. I received a letter about a class action suit against Subaru for an issue where the batteries were being drained. There was a workaround, and legally, I could take my car to the dealership to get it fixed. When my six month old battery died, I made an appointment with the dealership to fix it. It took a week (of jumping my car daily) to get the appointment, and once I brought it in, they didn't even START looking at it until the very end of the day. It got worse from there. They claimed nothing was draining the battery, and it was just that AAA sold me a bad battery, so they refused to fix it. OK, so there's a known battery draining issue, my new battery dies, but it's not because of the issue... it's just a completely coincidental bad battery. Right, makes sense. I argued with them about this for TWO DAYS, had to get my husband involved. They finally agreed to fix the issue THAT THEY WERE LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO FIX in order "make you happy." Um, I was not happy. Incidentally, I asked to speak to the manager while we were begging to have this issue fixed that they were legally obligated to fix. She called me back while I was on the phone with her employee (excellent coordination). When I returned the call less than five minutes later, she was gone. I left a message and asked for a call back and never got one. They also charged me for the new battery that their defective car drained. Six months later, the battery died again even though I had the "superior" Subaru battery. So the question is, did they lie and not fix the battery draining issue at all? Or were they just incapable of fixing it? Instead of waiting another week for an appointment and then being gaslit by them over whether or not there was a problem, I bought a new car from Toyota. I'll never buy another Subaru!!! read more

Lousy. Brought my car in THREE times for the exact same problem. They kept 'fixing' it. After the fourth time I brought to a non-Subaru PROFESSIONAL. They took the entire thing apart to finally get to the root of the problem. The problem?? SUBARU service put a junky (potentially used) battery in my car!! It wouldnt hold a charge. So no matter what else they fixed, the junk battery was why I have been stalling out or not starting for the last 2 years. What else should I say about this? read more

On Thursday morning I found the front grill emblem of my 6 month old car had fallen off. I could barely feel the adhesive from the back of the badge and none of the grill itself. Service denied warranty replacement because of some extremely small scratches on the bumper and claimed because of the presence of those scratches disqualify the warranty coverage for the badge itself. And then they quoted the cost of the replacement part at nearly twice what I could get an oem part for online. They seemed to bend over backwards to find any excuse to avoid the warranty which doesn't give me a great feeling if I need coverage for anything else. read more

This place is the most crooked car dealership! The sales agent, Flavio, was condescending and just plain rude. After I left I began having second thoughts and went to another dealer. They discovered that Cityside was going to charge me over 5% interest rate instead of the advertised of 3.9%. I immediately called them and demanded my $500 deposit back which I'm still waiting for 3 days later. Stay away from this place! Quirk Subaru is so much better! read more

I need to take my own advice when I write these reviews! I went to the express service for an oil change. I know my reviews before weren't great with them but they are the closest to me so I came back out of convenience. Their oil change service also increased by $10 totaling to $72.05. Never again. They never bothered to replace my tire air caps when they took them off for the 360 inspection. They also will not take accountability that they failed to put them back on all four tires. So now I have to pay to replace them rather than the mechanics do the job correctly in the first place or at least admitting their mistake. Terrible terrible place to service your vehicle. read more

So, brought my '22 Impreza for the routine service. After i picked it up, the next thing I did was to go to McDonalds. Is I pulled down the window and started approaching the drive-through window, I heard this "clanking" noise coming from the rear driver wheel. Didn't think much of it, i thought I was imagining things. The next morning, going into work, i heard the noise again. So, I parked and I checked the wheel, and I realized then that the wheel cover/hubcap was loose, and that the way it was being secured to the wheel was by a little plastic zip-tie. Ever since I reported my find, they asked me to bring it back to have it fixed. Now, I think a couple things might have happened: Whoever broke it, decided not to say anything and just put the zip-tie in the hopes that I wouldn't notice it. Shady practice, shady employers, not reliable; Or maybe, he did notice, reported it to the super visor and the sup said: "not a big deal, just put a zip-tie on it. Nobody ever checks for that..." Whichever scenario happened, the fact that the material was damaged and not fixed on the spot and the job was released consciously knowing that the part had been damaged, I will not be bringing my car to that place never again. Won't be coming back to this place. Called a few weeks in advance to schedule an appointment for an EVAP canister, explained the issue in detail, and even told him I'm pretty sure I know that's what it is. The guy over the phone said 3-5 hours tops. It was put in as a check engine light assessment, which wasn't entirely true, but it sure. I left my car for 7 am as scheduled. Didn't hear anything back for 5 hours which seemed off, called back to ask the status of the car, only to find out that they haven't even looked at it yet. The reason: Because I didn't stay in the building for the entire day, I've been immediately removed from the priority list and my car was now scheduled to be repaired last and done by 5:00 pm when they close up shop. They even hilariously told me it has to do with being busy. Point of reference, I was this FIRST PERSON there. I arrived at 6:50 am. 10 mins clear of the next person showing up. This was never once communicated to me as a rule when I called to set up the appointment, when they emailed me about it, when they called to confirm it 3 days prior, and when I went to drop the car off. I've been going to dealerships, repair shops, etc. For just shy of 20 years on 5-6 different brands of car, and never has a place doing this. The point of making a scheduled appointment is that you are the one in a priority queue. Now that I know this, this will be my last trip to the city side. It completely negates the point of making an appointment, and unfair to people to have other jobs and other appointments throughout the day, and to expect your customers to adhere to this, to get punished, is bad business. In the end, I was forced to pick up my car getting no repairs done because I couldn't miss my other appointments. Still had to pay $145 for them to tell me my heat shield was old, tell me I had a loose Pipe connector for the check engine, and for them to offer me a bunch of extra recommended repairs which 80% were done less than 3 months prior. read more

After texting with someone in service about getting a much needed oil change, I spent an hour driving out to the dealership. When I got there they told me they stopped at noon. There is no option to make an appointment. Monday-Friday isn't an option. It's the closest Subaru dealership near me and I usually only trust my car with dealerships but I won't be back. Wow. I brought my Subaru here in March, 2021 to get it assessed, as I'd just purchased it pre-owned; they gave it the all-clear. Found no issues. I'm back today in October, 2021 as my horn has been going off randomly, when my car is running or off. At drop-off, "Mitchell" is all sweetness and light, even asking if I have a lift home. Aww. After they assess, he tells me over the phone that my "horn switch" is broken, & that the only way to fix it is to replace my air-bag assembly, which is not broken. For $1,000. But! They'll factor in the $135 for the diagnosis if I get the work done there! Yay! Oh & they can do it three days from now at the earliest. So I say, no thanks, I'll pick my car up now. He seems unprepared for that answer, & says he'll let me know when I can get my car. When I arrive, the written estimate says, "technician found horn switch broken and part of airbag assembly recommend replace airbag assembly and reprogram." My passenger-side airbag light has been set to "Off" since I bought the car, & I have never found a way to adjust it, so now, I'm concerned. IS there something wrong with my airbag? I go inside to ask for clarification. Mitchell ignores me until his colleague points out that I'm there waiting. Then, when I ask, he just reads what's on the quote aloud to me, as though I can't, or haven't, read it myself. I point out that he'd said there was nothing wrong with my airbag on the phone, but this quote says this "broken and part of airbag..." bit and he hadn't mentioned that, and he epically rolls his eyes, sighs like some tween in a film and re-reads the line of the quote while pointing at each word and talk-ing ex-tra sloooooowww.... I just say, I just wanted clarification, and leave. I paid $135 to have the issue with my car diagnosed. Plus the cost of two Uber rides. Mitchell's poor grammar is not my problem; have someone else type the quote for you if you struggle to communicate & are going to throw a tantrum when a customer asks for clarity. This review is specifically for Cityside Subaru's service department. I know nothing about their sales department. Given what I found however, I would be VERY leery. I went to Cityside because I was having transmission issues, and after some back and forth Cityside informed me I needed roughly $2300 in repairs and that after that I may still need a new transmission. They also let me know I needed a few thousand in "other" repairs, including a new power steering rack and pump. Having paid $8000 for the car 3 years ago, I decided I wouldn't have them do the work. I've done a lot of car work, including the work they wanted to do, so I figured at minimum I could save some money in labor. Fortunately, when I picked the car up they hadn't cleared the codes, so I plugged in my code reader and read "transmission fluid too hot." With this information, I took the car home and did a quick once over on it. Immediately, I noticed a very obvious, very cheap fix to the problem. I've owned the car for around 3 years and never added coolant, and the coolant level at this point was low. Really low. Like dangerously low. Well below the "low" line. So I filled it up (the OEM Subaru coolant cost around $10 for a gallon, and I needed a quart or two). I've been driving it ever since without a problem. I also took a look at the power steering rack and pump, and decided to add Lucas oil stop leak to the power steering. Whatever the leak is, I've never seen power steering fluid on the ground so it must be small. We'll see if that's good enough to stop the PS leak, but it saved me another $2300 for the time being, and honestly if it took 3 years to get to this point, I'm happy to deal with this again in another 3 years. I want to give Cityside the benefit of the doubt, but my recommendation to you is that if you bring your car in for service and they want to do anything more than an oil change, I would strongly recommend you get a second opinion. I ended up wasting $200 in "diagnostic" fees just to be told that I "needed" many thousands of dollars to work, which ultimately 5 minutes of investigation proved to be incorrect. read more

My 2017 Outback had an AC block in the summer. Unfortunately we left it a long time, and water leaked into the car, under the passenger side. Still not really a problem. But there was too much, and it damaged the car amplifier, which needed to be replaced. That's where my story starts. Cityside subaru drained the water, and fixed the blocked AC. All good. They said they couldn't deal with the amplifier that day (July 2022). So I booked a later appointment. In the meantime, I had the car detailed to get the water smell out, and the detailers confirmed that the amplifier was broken. So I called ahead to the Subaru dealership to get the amp ordered in August 2022. I arrived at the dealership at 7am, and they had not ordered the amplifier. I was going away for a few weeks, so we had to schedule for late October 2022. I arrived in late Oct 2022, and they again didn't have the amplifier: they had sent it back. (What?? who does that?) So I reordered for Nov 14 2022. I arrived there that morning and they said that the amplifier was damaged and was on back order. I would need to wait until it arrived in stock again. I feel like this is a third world country business. Why can't they call if they don't have the part? It would save them and me time and frustration. read more

This review is for the express service shop. I arrive on a Sat at 9am for an "express" oil change. They tell me that the wait is going to be like 1.5 hours and that there are only about 5 people in front of me. I look at the people in the waiting room and it's about 5 people, so I take a seat. Multiple people start coming in after me, and are told the same. I start paying attention to who is coming in and out, because, what else are you going to do? I also am looking at the clipboards that are supposed to be taken in order, however, I notice that lady behind the desk keeps handing the technicians other clip boards that were not on the wall... also people are coming in with "minor"problems are taken care of right away. I literally see the handoff from the customer to the technician in a matter of minutes. It is now 11am. I'm starting to loose my patience when I notice that a women who arrived 1.5 hours after me, was already done. I also notice that people have made appointments, even though, they say they dont accept appointments. This happened about 4 times where people who came in after me, got taken care of So I stand up and the girl asks me my last name, and then says that my car is next. I overheard the lady calling the parts dept to inquire about a part to her car. So I ask her about a part, and she tells me that I have to walk over to parts myself.... hmmmm ok. The people next to me are getting impatient too, the lady asks when it's her turn, she finds her clipboard and hands it to the technician out of turn. 1230pm, my oil change and tire rotation are done... Just a thanks for my patience. I wasted my entire morning.. 3.5 hours for an oil change! I have been going to Cityside for over 15 years and this will be my last. I know they did not know this but I'm currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and I just didn't feel well. I receive treatment everyday M-F and Saturday is the only day I could have done it. Sitting there for 3.5 while not feeling well was torture. I know everyone has their own issues and Cityside does not need to know this.. but they should be respectful of everyone's times as you have no idea what people are going through when you force them to wait an unreasonable amount of time for an "express" oil change. read more

absolute horrid customer service. asked for help with a MAF sensor, I had the part, and tools just needed a techs assistance, I get they were busy but we live 4.5 hours away and there was no sense of urgency or advice on what to do besides leaving the car there until Tuesday which was impossible. We went to Cityside looking for a new Impreza or Crosstrek. The pricing on their website seemed fair, and they have a good reputation for treating customers well. Well, it didn't turn out like that. All of the cars on the lot were marked up $8000 beyond the sticker price/website price, and the salesman told us that he could 'give us a deal' by knocking that down to $6000 markup. To make matters worse when we expressed surprise at this markup and cited prices at other semi-local subaru dealers, he told us that every dealership had been instructed by Subaru corporate to impose this hefty markup. This turned out to be a lie, we went to another dealership and found that we could buy the car we wanted at the sticker price without any markup. It's a real shame, we've been customers of Cityside for many years and it is super-convenient to our home, but we won't be back. read more

Service Department specific review-- bottomline do not go. Long story short: almost scammed into $2418 worth of repairs... went to different dealership service center.... diagnosed the root issue @ $850 to fix. Recap of car issue: while driving-- all electrical lights turned on, lost power steering, eventually my car completely died and nothing would ignite/ turn on. Tow Truck man (thank goodness) ran some quick tests and noted that the battery was fine but power wasn't getting to the alternator and vice versa. He mentioned it was NOT the battery-- even if 'they' try to tell me it is. Explained all context to CitySide. Mitch Colepaugh diagnosed my car stating: Dead battery ($215 to replace), Steering wires rodent chewed + rack replace ($1610 + 130 alignment) and control arm bushing replacement ($463). Note -- 4 weeks prior I had all my control arm bushings checked and all but one were fine (replaced the bad one). I asked about the alternator and Mitch said that they don't know if it will need to be replaced YET. Got a bad feeling + between the unprofessional nature of text message reporting + the wildly high prices (compared to my previous service charges) I paid to tow my vehicle to a different Subaru dealership-- one that was farther but had a good previous experience. New dealership said 1 wire connecting to my alternator harnessing was rodent chewed- would need to replace at ~$850. Battery works great. Power steering issue caused by harnessing issue...... no dramatic bushing to replace..... $850 for the root issue vs $2418 for not the root issue. Please save yourself the trouble and diagnostic fee and go somewhere else.... read more

Nope. Reviewing the Express Service Shop. Have been here a few times and service has been acceptable. However today arrived to a significant wait (was told 2-2.5 hours for an oil change, ended up being 3.5), after being told on the phone they do not accept appointments. During the wait multiple people came in with appointments, were serviced, and left. When other customers questioned why some people were able to make appointments and other's were not, we were given the run around and staff was quite rude. Unfortunately this provider is the most convenient by proximity for many people, but I question if the location is worth it. read more

This review is for the SALES department. As with any car dealership I approached the experience with caution. I was in the market for a used Forester or Honda CR-V. Ended up going with the Subaru because for cost/mileage reasons compared to the Honda. I worked with Joe as the salesperson and Mike as the business manager. I found the whole experience to be fairly smooth and low pressure. They worked with me slightly on the price based on a price comparison with another dealership across town. Throughout our interactions, they never pushed too hard about add-on packages or anything like that, although they did briefly offer them. Joe was very responsive to phone communications and even continued to answer my questions via text after I had already brought the car home. The car is running great and I'm happy with my purchase. read more

I was doing my due diligence looking at a place to get a Legacy. Of the four dealerships I looked at, this was the worst. The game plan (at least with this sales guy) is fear. I knew the color and trim I wanted and had seen it around in my area. The sales guys, however, told me he was concerned that he could even find one. He made sure I knew about the chip shortage and how the car would come with an automatic $2k increase on the price - "It's not me, it's the owner. Maybe I can get you out of it." Lo and behold after about seven minutes...he found what I knew existed! Praise be! And he was so pleased with himself and how hard he was working for me. He told me I'd have to move fast because of the chip shortage and if I didn't I might lose the car. I'd need to put down a credit card to hold it otherwise it might not be there...because of the chip shortage. I told him I wasn't about to give him a credit card on the spot. I'm exaggerating slightly but steam leaked from his ears when I told him I wasn't buying today. I'm not sure he even bothered to keep the form his was filling out. In contrast, I went home and called the first place I looked at. The sales guy, after a brief pause, said, "Yep, we can get that. Are you ready to buy?" Why, yes. Yes, I was. We set up an appointment which, despite the wait, went seamlessly and with no pressure at all. read more

I came back to Cityside today after falling victim to a "bait and switch" scheme at another dealership that was promising ridiculously low (and unfortunately fake) prices. After trying in vain to get the other dealership to live up to their promised deal, I left disgusted and drove straight to Cityside, where I knew I'd get a fair shake. In less than an hour, I had a deal I was very happy with from people I knew I could trust. I won't be tempted again by those other dealers that promise deals that are too good to be true. Once you cut through their tricky schemes and fine print, their prices end up being the same as everyone else's. I'd rather buy from someone who is straight with me from the start. read more

I took my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek in for service for the first time at Cityside. They have an express service for routine maintenance (oil, tire, safety, inspection) that requires no appointment. Was out within 30 minutes and the cost was very reasonable. Will definitely go back read more

I got no return call after leaving a voicemail. I called again and got confirmation on the phone that I could return my leased Subaru there. When I arrived, I was told they would not accept a lease return (which is possibly illegal and certainly unprofessional). The sales manager was neither apologetic nor did he offer to do anything to help (like, for instance, recommending another dealership that would accept the lease return). Don't call it express service when it takes 2 hours waiting to get an oil change , what a joke!

My Subaru was due for some recall work on the Takata airbag. I had already taken it in once some time ago but I guess that was a temporary fix and now it was time for the permanent replacement. I scheduled the appointment a few weeks out. The person on the phone said that it might be an all day affair. They offered a loaner but during COVID, I don't really want to be in a loaner car so I arranged to have my husband pick me up / drop me off. We dropped off the car at 7:30am and they guy at the desk said that it might be done by 11:30am. I thought great and off I went. Around noon or so I called and asked if the car would be done by 1:30pm. They said no but probably around 2pm. Since we were in the area, my husband dropped me off around 1:30 and I figured I would just wait for it. 2pm came and went so I checked in again. They said around 20-40 minutes more. At 3:15 I called and asked what happened to my car - they were still working on it. At around 4pm I was getting tired of being there and I kept seeing the guy working on my car so I decided to head home - who knows if it would be done that day or not. I talked with the person at the desk and there was some mention about the technician being new. At this point I asked to speak to the manager and in a few minutes Matt came out. I told him the story and he apologized. I told him that I had the car there by 7:30am so why wasn't it done by 4pm. Matt said that they had a backlog from the previous day. Given that this was recall work, I think that they might have called me to see if I wanted to reschedule - it is not like my car wasn't working. Matt said that my car was almost done but at this point, I didn't really believe him - I had heard that line a few times today. Hubby came to pick me up and we headed home. On the way home, I got a message that my car was ready. I went the next day and picked up my car. On the floor was a wrapper from a peanut butter cracker snack pack. I have to say that I don't know why the technician felt a need to eat in my car and I really don't know why a technician would eat a peanut butter product in my car - with the number of people with severe allergies to peanuts, it seems like a poor choice. I don't plan to return to CitySide Subaru. To be honest, I stopped going there for repair work due to slow service and being told I would need to wait 2-3 hours for an oil change at the express service! For this recall work, I figured that I would go to CitySide - won't make that mistake again. read more

Best buying experience ever on a car. I donated my old car, went to purchase a new one. They picked me up at the train stop. I was able to test drive alone. There was no pressure and I got the price I wanted. Everyone I met was friendly and professional. They were able to answer all my questions. They also listened to what I said I was looking for and told me of a few options that I was considering that would not be needed based on what I said. This review is for their Express Service shop, located in a separate building from the main shop. The idea behind express service is first come first serve, for oil changes, lightbulb installs, tire rotations, and similar jobs. It's always been first come first serve -- and it's been relatively quick, maybe waiting 60-90 minutes tops. But with their new Summer 2018 policy to also allow appointments, which take priority over other customers, the question becomes whether this changes anything. After I financed a car here, someone started writing fake checks in my name, and the police traced it back to the finance department at Cityside Subaru. Subsequently, they've also denied me warranty service for repairs on my car when things started going wrong, even though I had an extended warranty. This place is the worst, do not come here under any circumstances. They'll scam you every way they can. Also, pay attention to the 5-star reviews on this place. They all sound like they are written by the same person, and they all sound fake. read more

Went in seeking more information about the Subaru Ascent. The assigned salesperson was preoccupied with phone calls, texts, and other alerts. That they had one to look at and a brochure was the only plus. He brought me out to look at it and began the hard-sell...on a deposit for a car about which he only barely knew superficial information. Some of the lack of information I understand: nobody has driven it. The closest first-hand experience anyone'd had beyond sitting in a parked car was a professionally-driven lap the Cityside owners had apparently taken. Still, they were blown away by (insert memorized brochure language). That didn't stop my salesperson from being shady and evasive in his answers and hard-selling a $500 (suggesting $1,000) deposit... Wait, was it a deposit or a 'bargaining chip'? He said it was both... You'll have to ask him between text alerts and phone calls. I honestly expected better. There are a lot of Subaru dealers out there, I plan to find one that treats its customers better. read more

Atrocious customer service. We had been going there for 2 cars and 14 years, but the customer service has cratered over the last year such that we are never going back. Their service department is rude and unhelpful on the phone - they argue about whether there is an open recall on their cars when Subaru has announced it in the press on all cars produced during a certain time period, and then when you finally get the official letter from Subaru, they tell you you can book a recall appointment in 6 months. Meanwhile, you cannot have anyone sitting in your passenger seat because the airbag might KILL THEM. They refuse to help or back up the Subaru commitment on cars they themselves have sold. Don't waste your time or your money on either this brand of car or on this dealership - you have much better options. read more

I took my car in for the routine 60K service.  They found multiple things wrong and repaired/replaced to a total of $1500. When I went to pick up my car, I started it up and it was tapping/ticking.  They kept my car two weeks to "diagnose" the tapping sound, and never did, they added something to the oil, and said that maybe it would "go away" with driving.  I drove the car home and the tapping noise did not stop. Also now every time I turn left their is a loud clunk and my dash lights no longer function.  I called them and they made an appointment to bring it in so they could confirm that it wasn't their fault.  I've cancelled it.  I won't go back. My car was running quietly and well before I took it in for service. read more
