This review is only for the Saturday brunch. I think this place specializes in serving up burgers and beers to rowdy crowds in the evening. For Saturday brunch, the service was really average (lukewarm water for tea) and the food was lousy. Tasteless hollandaise sauce overwhelmed the eggs and english muffin, average home fries, average fruit Hard to recommend it. But again, I don't think this is their core business. read more

City Side does a great job as being an easy place to go grab a bite to eat or a good beer. Food is decent, what you would expect from a pub. Came here for dinner around 8ish on a Tuesday night with my boyfriend. We originally went here because we wanted to sit outside on the upstairs deck, but it was an hour long wait and we were starving so we sat inside. I realized this place must be owned by the same people tht owns Playwright, because the menu is exactly the same. Since I frequent Playwright so much, it would have been nice to go here and have something new, but I like the food so it turned out to be fine. Our waitress was great and the prices are pretty nice as well, so overall I like this place for a last minute dinner. I definitely would like to come back and try out the deck because it looks pretty fun. read more

I was hopeful that my turkey panini was going to have some real turkey meat in there, but there were just 2 meagre slices of processed cold-cut turkey meat. It was overpriced at $10. My friend ordered a side of fried mushrooms, which each came with a ton of cream cheese inside the bready exterior. Gross. The sweet potato fries were ok....very thin, and breaded, for some reason. Our waitress was borderline incompetent....said "sure" when I asked for more water, then didn't return for 15 minutes, and she had of course forgotten about the water. She also messed up part of the order. There aren't a lot of great options for eating out in Cleveland Circle, but this is definitely mediocre and not cheap for what you get. read more

Cityside has a good vibe on any night and very welcoming bar tenders. Great to watch a sports game (lots of TVs!) or wind down after work. If you are coming for a drink and want to hang with some nice people, this bar is the place. Now if you are coming to eat dinner, that's another story, the food is mediocre and most of the servers could use some customer service training, so come for some bar food or drinks, but this ain't a dinner place... read more

Food is good. Decent amount on tap. I'm more of a hard alcohol fan, and my bill is always decent for a mixed drink in the Boston area. Sometimes service is on the slow side. Bar seating upstairs and downstairs, and table service both upstairs and down. They also offer "fishbowls" which are goldfish bowls filled to the brim with a mixed drink to share. read more

The food and drinks are great, only caveat is they let customers reserve tvs for sports games on a first come first serve basis. This may be the only bar in Boston where you can't catch the sox or pats on game day because out of towners got there first, really disappointing. read more

Cityside is a great place to go for drinks and an appetizer (or two). They have some great cocktails at a reasonable price as well as a wide selection of beer and wine. The nachos with grilled chicken are very tasty and their mojitos are well crafted. My experience with their entrees has been sub-average, and so I wouldn't recommend going here for a full on meal. This place is ideal for a few drinks, an app (like the nachos) and that's it. If you want to have dinner, do the above then move on to a different place for a main entree. read more

I lived around the corner from this place for 12 months and I still don't know what to think of it. First the food. Every time I've been here (mostly for lunch) the food service is horrifically slow. Once it took well over an hour just to get some beer and burgers. Once you get it, the food is nothing to write home about. Its just your average pub food. The roof deck is great in the summer, but the inside is a bit small. Which brings me to the bar. Its a nice place to stop by and relax after a long day during the week. Weekend nights sees a large student crowd from nearby BC. The bar area is small and awkwardly configured with limited seating. There are a fair amount of TVs with various sporting events, a couple arcade games in the back, and they usually offer electronic trivia games. Drinks are nothing special and prices are on par with most of Boston. Overall, Cityside is a nice place to stop off for a couple rounds & catch to a game, but I wouldn't make a night out it. Students: If your downtown its not worth the trek to Cleveland Circle, if your from BC you've probably already been here. read more

Cityside is a pretty standard bar, with local regulars and a good selection of beer on tap. However, my only problem with this place is the staff. I have been many times since moving to the area, and many times, I get a lot of great servers/bartenders. However, the owner of the place lost my credit card on one occasion. He was drunk and acting as the bartender, and somewhere between swiping my card and giving it back to me, he lost it. I was sitting at the bar, too! I still had to pay for my drinks that night. I spent the next two weeks without a credit card, and hard-pressed to find a grocery store or pharmacy who would accept a personal check from me (I use a bank located in the Midwest). It was hell, and cost me a lot of money. So go to Cityside if you want. It's a pretty fun place, and nice that it's so close to me. My caution: pay with cash. read more

I'm not crazy about the crowd or bar service on a busy night, but their patio is nice in the summer and the renovations they've done over the past few years look great. Went there last night around 9pm for a late dinner and drinks with my boyfriend. It was pretty quiet, sat upstairs. Started out ok, ordered some drinks. I ordered gin while he ordered bourbon... I usually drink bourbon myself but decided to switch it up. When the server brought our drinks over she handed him the bourbon, laughed and said it was probably a safe guess that it was for him. Not sure what that was supposed to mean, but I could have done without. Every time we had a nice moment together, arm around each other, a kiss, etc. she would come over and loudly interrupt asking if it was a "bad time." The food was pretty good but a little greasy. It was an ok experience. I don't know that I would go back and definitely would not want the same abrasive server. read more

Best bar in Cleveland Circle! Best staff, great food (esp the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla) and by far the best hostesses around!

It's usually ok, but have had bad experiences with some of the bartenders there. Last time out on a Friday night, I received a Guinness that was not even close to being filled---the top of the beer was an inch from the top of the glass at least. When I complained to the bartender, he told me I didn't tip enough. The tvs and atmosphere is pretty good for a young crowd, but the attitudes and customer service really need to improve read more

I've been here dozens of times with my wife and my friends. It's a nice-looking sports bar. The service is consistently friendly and fast. They serve standard bar food and have a nice selection of beers. It's not the cheapest sports bar around, but it does have a 'high-end' feel to it. read more

This is a good all ages place. The drinks are excellent, and this is the only place to get nice drinks in Cleveland Circle. I love the peach cosmo martini thing and get it every time. I think the menu has changed over the last year or two - it used to be considerably better. The last few times I've been there, the food has been much blander and the service much slower. Ladies beware! I was PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED by a manager. A few nights ago, my friends and I were leaving the bar after last call. I left my drink inside and went to join my friends outside to head home together. While we were outside, I was distracted and in the midst of a conversation when my friend hands me a cup for a moment (I don't know what was in it). The next thing I know, the manager bolts outside and forcefully slaps my arm, causing it to fall on the ground. I was so startled. When I turned around to ask him why he touched me, he just ran back inside the bar and locked the door. Not only that, the bouncer (really fat guy) was inside giving me the middle finger. I have done so much business with Cityside in the past through professional organization and I can confidently say that I will never give this establishment any of my business in the future. I understand that a bar environment during last call can be stressful, but I did nothing to warrant that physical reaction. Honestly, I'm still shaken up by the incident, which is why I have to write this review. I have never had such an experience at a bar before and I hope this establishment seriously reviews the types of people it puts into management positions. read more

This place was absolutely TERRIBLE all around. There were hardly any customers there, and it took over half an hour to get a drinks after order them, and over an hour to get food. When she brought one of the two appetizers we ordered, she told us they were all out of the other one we ordered instead of telling us right after. We were also told some of entrees were not available, long after we ordered them. We asked for refills, napkins, plates for the appetizers and lemons, and never got any of them. DO NOT GO HERE. I'm six months new to the Boston area, I just moved to the back bay. I've never been to CitySide before, but I drive by it for work and it always looked like a cool place to go. So this Sunday I decided to go to the brunch. I sat outside on the upper level patio, I was with my girlfriend and a bunch of our friends and we had a blast. We decided to continue the Sunday Funday inside at the bar and watched sports and hung out. The food and drinks were good and the atmosphere was low key, but still fun with good music and vibe. I gave it a 1 star, because the drinks are ok, but I got a fishbowl between me and another person, and left buzzed, not even drunk.. also the food was the absolutely WORST i've ever tasted, and the sauces were gross.. On another note, the deck is cool but you can't smoke on it (understandable other people dining may not smoke) but then when I asked the waitress if I can get a side of something different from fries she replied "no sorry you can't" then when I asked her for a drink not on the menu, (simple drink ; grape crush) she said "is it on the menu?" The bar is in a great location and has potential but some staff members are weak in their services and professionalism. The bartenders are great and are very customer attentive, however, I was turned off upon being greeted when entering the bar. I have never experienced a doorman as crude and raunchy as Neil Gendrin and I felt violated upon entering the establishment. I LOVED CitySide Bar when I went to Boston! It's a hidden gem with patio seating and delicious food. I had a salad which was huge and they added several items to it for me. The Red Wine vinaigrette was to die for. My boyfriend ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap which was also very delicious and came with many fries! I would recommend everyone try CitySide! read more

This bar was boring. It was crowded, the bouncers were rude, and no one was allowed upstairs. The bouncers kept changing and the count for the upstairs kept changing. The managers refused to come outside or downstairs and talk with anyone, despite politely and patiently asking for him. The restrooms had no tissue and the bartenders did not serve everyone. I am a Boston College senior, and, like most of my peers, I can be found at this bar at least one night each weekend. Despite the fact that the glasses in which I get my gin and tonics typically emit a strong odor of Bailey's, I usually enjoy my time here and am pleased with the service I receive. However, tonight, after frequenting this bar for about 8 months, I was told by the bouncer, who identified himself as the owner of this establishment, that neither my Massachusetts driver's license (the picture for which was taken this past summer) nor my Boston College ID looked like me. In both of these photos, my hair was straight rather than the curly style I currently typically wear it in. I attributed this fact to the owner's confusion over my appearance. However, I also presented both my legitimate Visa card and my health insurance card. Apparently, in the opinion of the owner, both these documents were also fraudulent. This was obviously not the case. As a loyal customer, I am appalled and offended by the treatment I received tonight. I sincerely hope that the owner of the bar will reevaluate his identification skills, and become more familiar with his customers. read more

great neighborhood bar. i love their lobster rolls and selection of food. they use fresh seafood that is delivered on a frequent basis so the fish is not frozen food. i like that you have a choice of hanging in the bar, or you can go upstairs for more of a restaurant feel. overall i think it's a great place to grab a beer and some food. they have a few healthy options on their menu which is nice to see. you can still go out for a beer and order something good for you! the wine selection in the bar is not big so if you want more of a selection go upstairs. read more

About a month ago I was at the bar having a good time chatting it up with the day locals. We listen to music and drink beers. It's harmless. Out of the blue the GM Paul lets me know I am no longer welcome. The reason why still dumbfounds me. He said the bartenders had issues with me which is extremely hard to believe. Paying big tabs and tipping well while being nice is a bad thing? The guys I was around that day said they were going to write to the owner about what transpired. I said no thanks and chalked it up to him having a bad day. Today I went back after a month and was told to leave. Still not clear why I was in the hot seat to begin with. I asked why and he said if I have to explain it to you again... I am still unclear what made up reason he has to boot me. I asked the bartender why and she said she does not know. So after frequenting CitySide since 2001 I have got the boot by your GM Paul for whatever reason he has. It's too bad. I really like the wings, patrons and staff.
