This establishment was very sympathetic when we brought our Prince in. He was having a serious seizure and difficulties breathing. They gave him a breathing treatment but he looked worn down after the seizure and was no longer able to walk. We had to make the decision to allow him to cross over the rainbow to doggy heaven. The decision was very difficult for me but the staff was very supportive and sympathetic. Made an appointment to have my dogs stomach looked at, she gets itchy in the summers (loves rolling in the grass) so she scratches and develops sores which we get an allergy medication for. All we needed the vet to do was look at her and give us the "ok" so we could buy through Chewy online. Now, usually if I'm taking my dog in it's for shots/tests and we give her a medication to make her a little drowsy as she gets very anxious around the vets but we were told by staff that since this would just be her stomach getting looked at that the medication wasn't necessary this time and it would be a quick in and out. Once we arrived and checked in for the appointment we were asked why we were there. Umm, excuse me? I made an appointment for a specific reason. So we explained why we were there to the receptionist and took our seats. After a little while a vet comes out with shots to give her and doesn't even ask if we were there for them or wanted them. Of course my dog doesn't like that one bit because again we were told no drowsy meds because no shots/tests for this visit, so she gets very anxious and goes to the bathroom on the floor in the lobby (where they wanted to see us, not our choice). After the shots/tests and all the drama had finished, we were then told by one of the vets that we needed to sedate the dog (again we were told not to because of the nature of what this visit was SUPPOSED TO BE) and that if we didn't like it we could take our business elsewhere. So we did exactly that, and found a vet that will come to my house. They even play with the dog a little before hand so they can get acquainted before shots/tests are administered. I am deeply saddened to say that my first encounter with this vet clinic was also the last time I saw my beautiful baby girl alive, but it was because a terminal cancer had overtaken her body. I was there to seek a second opinion in her condition, however, I was moved because they were not trying to up sell me any additional tests or diagnostics. They were honest with me and extremely sincere and compassionate with my baby, a rescued German shepherd that had become part of my family for the last 4+ years, she was over 5 years old when she joined my family, so she was also a good senior age. I could not in any way be more pleased than I was with their kindness, while I was making such a very difficult decision to allow my baby to cross the rainbow bridge in a very dignified manner pain free, as opposed to waiting on the cancer to consume her. We took her for shots and palliative care. She kept insisting on a dental procedure. Bitsy has never done well in a cage and is 12 years old and we just want her comfortable. The doctor accused us of being defensive. Well heck yea we are, she is like our child and we take care of her accordingly. the young staff at City Vet are very nice. I took Blu a 10-12 year old cat for an examination. After 17 mins of lab work and $252 latter, Dr Wheeless was unable to diagnose her issue. No antibiotics were prescribed as an extra measure. Based on my estimation and research I suspect Lymphoma. I do find the charges excessive, especially without a diagnosis. What would have been more appropriate, issue an discount of $100 since no diagnosis was given. Too expensive!! living and learning at great cost. read more

Ok people... we adopted a puppy right before 2017 4 of July, puppy was sent to this clinic to remove her girly parts. We pick her up on a Thursday and she under the medicine.. then Friday she still is down. By Saturday she can't stop coughing and her chest sounds scratchy. We call them .. the clinic wants to set up an appointment for Monday?!!! It's worse Sunday. Monday their surprised how she is... they say " she was barking and spirited " before the operation. I used to be in love with Central Animal Clinic and Dr. Nicholson. She took excellent care of Creed-my older dog that had to be put down. However, this latest experience was NOT what I was used to experiencing. Let me add that the front desk staff and other assistants are GREAT! My 9 month old puppy went in because of a swollen leg. I explained it started with a red spot in between her toes. I was told it looked like a grass spur had traveled up her leg and tried to come out. I was given antibiotics but had to take her back because it was not healing. Dr. Wheeler said he would try to open it up and see if he can get it out. So he took her back. He came back and said he tried to flush the area but she would need surgery. He could not do the surgery that day because of renovations. So I paid $30. I took her back for the surgery and was given a particular dollar amount. Dr. Wheeler called me after the surgery and advise it would be an additional $60 because he had to also give her gas. I had a problem with this because I would always be told up front of cost and possible additional cost if certain other things are needed. He also advised that he did not find anything. Due to unforeseen family emergencies unexpected expenses were not convenient. Fast forward to yesterday (8/26/22). I took her back for her checkup and was told she needs another surgery-at least this time I was given the range of cost. My problem is that this should have been taken care of with the original surgery instead of going off of my description of the circumstances. Now I am being told the surgery could range from $718.99+to $817.99; not including $40 for bandage changes. Dr. Nicholson advised me that she was actually in the room when Dr. Wheeler did the original surgery. She made the statement that "they were focused on it being a grass spur and did not consider anything else." Now she is advising: mass r/o granuloma (walled off grass spur also possible) vs tumor vs allergy related cyst vs other--her notes. I decided to get a second opinion after discussing this with numerous educated individuals. I called to have Dallas's medical records emailed to me. I was shocked when I read that Dr. Nicholson put in my dogs medical record that I started using foul language. Since when is hell and damn-I may have possibly said the "S" word-becomes foul language? Damn and hell are in the Bible! So I need her to add that her assistant rolled her eyes at me to my dogs medical record. Dr. Nicholson I am so shocked at you! I was even more shocked when I saw some negative reviews about you!! What my daughter gathers is that the vets at City Vet make their diagnoses off of what the owner says and if that does not work out THAN the "light bulb may go on" that it may be other causes. Why were these other causes not explored when the first surgery was done, especially when nothing was found? Dallas will NOT be returning to City Vet! After giving City Vet my loyalty since 2017, I will be taking my loyalty, money, and time to a replicable establishment. read more

I absolutely love this office and the staff. If I hadn't have moved 50 miles away I'd still take my dogs there! I have seen both vets and they are both kind and attentive. You can tell they genuinely love the animals they are caring for. Prices are more than fair and I can't say I've ever felt like I didn't get my money's worth. Everyone from the front to the back is so nice and friendly. Always saw me promptly if I had a concern and then got me back quickly when I got there. It was always clean and I know that they clean each office after each furry patient is seen. They were more than accommodating when I had to make the sad decision to let my 12 year old Husky cross the rainbow bridge. I think this may be the very best Vet in all of Cedar Hill. Not only is Dr. Rose caring, but he is also kind, attentive and the staff is fantastic. If you take care of your pet, they will take care of you! Conveniently located near the 67 fwy. on the corner, not only is this office always clean but the employees are friendly and so helpful. We board our animals here and they get great care, and Dr. Rose does all of their check ups and vaccines. Also note this clinic does not allow walk ins so you must call ahead for an appointment, if there is a major issue they usually can get you in the same day, they just don't like people showing up without an appointment.... Terrible. Without a doubt, the worst veterinary clinic I have ever been to. We have taken three babies there. One didn't make it out alive and two left with infections. My babies would have been better off if I had treated them myself at home. If you want a healthy pet, which is most likely why you're taking him to the vet, do not take him here. I took my cat there to be treated after minor injuries from a scrap with the dog. "Nothing broken, nothing punctured, it's all superficial." Within eight hours, they are calling to tell me Poof Daddy didn't make it with a meager explanation as to why. Believing what they told me, that Poof Daddy had an underlying heart condition and they did the best they could, I took Locke, our Shepard, there to be neutered. My Catahoula, Otis, stayed in boarding at the same time while we were out of town. When we went to pick our boys up, Otis was skittish, dirty, and smelled like urine. They wouldn't let us see Locke for over an hour for reasons that made no sense. In less than 24 hours of having our Shepard home, he had a nasty infection where they did the surgery. Two weeks and hundreds of dollars later, he is still on antibiotics to treat the infection he contracted there and slowly gaining back the 7 pounds he lost while in their care. Otis has kennel cough. It isn't personal, they just do not care about you and yours. When your pet walks through that front door, all they see are dollar signs. They are money hungry monsters. I would not trust them with my pet rock. No matter how many free baths they threw at us to try to make it better, we will never, never go there again. read more

We took our dog to Central Animal Clinic to be checked for a number of reasons. The staff was pleasant and attentive to our dog. The problem with this clinic began because we did not take our dog back for a follow-up. The first time I called after the fact, I called to find out what was the type of insulin we were to purchase because we ran out and I could not remember which type. The second time I called it was to get a refill prescription for our dogs eye drops. Both times I called I was placed on hold for long periods and various people kept picking up the line so I had to keep repeating why I was calling. They told me that they did not have anything on our dog's file about the insulin or the eye drops. Also, if we needed eye drops we would have to bring her in to be checked again. If your office does not keep accurate records, then why would we return for this unacceptable service. read more

I explained to her, my 11 year old daughter had a school project on what they wanted to be when they grow up; she stated a veterinarian. All we needed was 5 minutes of the doctors time; she only had 3 questions. The front clerk stated, he was busy and If I wanted to talk with him I had to make an appointment. I looked around the waiting room and it was empty. Again, I asked, are you sure the doctor doesn't have 5 minutes to share his education, experiences and expertise about his profession with a 11 year old kid; she said, no. I was willing settle for talking with someone that has worked in the profession for a while, so I asked the front clerk If she had 5 minutes. She said no, I'm busy. I have to answer the phone and assist customers; the waiting room was empty. If a doctor or his front staff does not have time for humans, who are able to verbal express themselves; how will these people treat your pets when you are not present? read more

I took my dogs to the vet on June 3 for exam and shots for boarding. My boarding place told me that the shots I got them were not enough. I called central animal clinic on June 4 for a appt to keep from driving back to my regular vet who is farther away. I was to come in at 1130 there was a cancellation. I get there the vet is new there she is very was nice. I go to pay for the shots and the bill is 177.52! I ask why so high. This front desk lady interrupts me while I was talking to another employee and rudely tells me it was for 2 exams and that she told me the charge over the phone. I told her she never told me that because if she had I would not have come..I already had my dogs examined the day prior. I didnt want to cause a scene so I paid the bill as I laughed to myself to keep my cool. This is the 2nd time I was charged for services I didn't ask for, there will not be a third. I dont like being called a liar, I dont like not being informed upfront. That's the reason they will never see me again for my personal dogs. read more

This is the worst veterinary clinic. Dr Rose and his receptionist. I left messages three times for him and got a call back two weeks later. I kept getting his receptionist to try and answer medical questions I wanted to ask Dr Rose personally. She called me twice today trying to pry the questions out. When I got tired of her prying I told her I needed him to call me directly to answer questions I had about my dog and the anesthesia he would be getting tomorrow morning. I told her he's an older dog and would like to know the risks involved. She then asked me, is that all you needed? I'm shocked with her sarcastic tone. I answer her and say yes! He is everything to me and if it's a risk I'll weigh out other options and hung up on her. Dr Rose was going to call me at 3:30 today. He finally called at 5:15 with an attitude himself like her. I asked him what is going on over there with he and his receptionist being so rude. I said I couldn't think of leaving my dog in hands like that without me being able to be there through it all. He VERY rudely said maybe I should just go somewhere else. I only started going to him two or three years ago due to my dogs Dr retiring and closing his shop. We miss him. We saw him yearly for vaccinations and since we have been going to Dr Rose we have been going two or three times a year. He's broke out with spots ever since he started going there. I asked if this could be his preventive heart guard and they said maybe. Everything always needs a blood test. My poor dog has had so much blood work always and it's always good. They don't call back for follow up when a procedure is done and to top it off, Dr Rose said since your dog is small he won't need that much anesthesia. But there's always a risk. My point is, my dog is mixed but looks like a tan lab and weighs 65-70lbs! Small dog? Whose chart is he reading? Not a good clinic professionally or atmosphere. Dr is never there and the receptionist is plain mean! When I asked if I can get his medical records they said Yes! All this time they always said my dog was a good dog. And he is and my daughter and I are very easy to get along with.This clinic is disappointing. read more

I have been to this vet before and honestly was never crazy about them mainly their choices on receptionists everyone just about has lacked customer service and the complete desire for you as a customer to even be there or want to follow through making any appointment the 1st time I was there was back in 2009 and then I started working at a vet and obviously didn't need to continue with them and currently have a different vet but is in Red Oak and fantastic btw well today I decided I didn't feel like driving out there today because they are current on everything shot wise we just needed a nail trim for 2 well being that 1 pet hasn't been there since 2009 and the other never but both current with proof of vaccines but we were told since we aren't current customers and now will absolutely never will be I hung up and called Petco for the same service $1 cheaper per pet and you don't have to have an appt so thanks central animal clinic for saving me some time and money by being rude so I called Petco and forever losing me read more

Went in to get my dog microchipped. I paid the $30 there and now am having to pay an additional fee to get her registered with the chip company. My other dog was microchipped by another vet and did not have to pay more money. They gave me a lot of excuses to why they used this company this only time, from this experience I will not be returning, I will keep using my same vet. read more

I waited for over 45 minute for the vet NO ONE came in to let me know that the animal ahead of me was taking longer....when I asked how much longer they said ten minutes....I said "No, have waited long enough.
