I've been a loyal CityVet customer for the three years I've had my dog and never had any issues. However, I recently moved to Uptown and tried this location for the first time, and it was a terrible experience. The front desk staff seemed confused; I was originally quoted $130 over the phone for vaccines, but when I arrived, they told me I hadn't been priced correctly and the total was now $300. The lack of consistency and communication here is poor--avoid this location if you can. read more

Dr. Murphy has been an amazing vet to our family ever since we relocated here from Florida in April 2013. When one of our dogs had a UTI, he was the only veterinarian willing to see us right away. Every other office told us to wait weeks, and he took us in without hesitation. That meant everything to us. Since that first visit, we have trusted Dr. Murphy with all of our Maltese fur babies. He is kind, attentive, and truly cares about the animals he treats. You never feel rushed, and you can tell he genuinely loves what he does. Finally found a vet to solve my dog's paw growth issues. I had been to several vets , none of which could solve my dog's problem. He limped around on sore feet for over a year. The doctor is apparently the only one with a laser in the Dallas area and the dogs growth removal was successful with the laser. The office was friendly and followed up after surgery. So, this is my first time boarding my dog here. I have called them and confirmed days in advance about his vaccination records and what the price would be for my dog to stay ONE NIGHT!!! When I actually get there, the say he is missing some of his records... why didn't you tell me this before I got here. Now I have to pay an extra $200 for ONE NIGHT, because of non-communication on the part of CityVet- Uptown to let me know in advance that my dog did not have all he needed to board with this place. They said "I see you usually board at a different location, but we have different rules". This is the thing though they took my dog for the visit, so what is going to happen if he doesn't pass the fecal and influenza exam... ARE YOU GOING TO PUT HIM OUT?! They have been following my dog for years and as his heart condition worsened they would not allow for him to get follow up X-rays unless left there the entire day which is stress a failing heart does not need. Dr. Murphy made an accommodation given this, but the staff was so disconnected that they refused to do the imaging or call him when I came for the timed appointment. I gave the 2 stars because of location and apologizing, but if you truly have something wrong with your dog I encourage you to find somewhere else that has well rounded care for your animals needs when sick. Also there X-rays are way over priced and they do not work with Chewy on get meds. read more

This is my chosen vet in Uptown. Dr. Murphy is my favorite - he is very knowledgeable and he has helped my pet with constipation. The vet techs are very friendly, and the desk staff is always pleasant. I removed one star because I think they can use some assistance in the admin area. I have to follow up with them after most visits to remind them to send me my visit summaries and instructions and sometimes I do need to poke them via email to get an appointment because their phone can often go to voicemail. Granted - I am a pretty neurotic pet owner. In all, a great vet's office, but definitely be prepared to be proactive about your follow up. read more

Avoid CityVet Uptown at all costs. They do not care about pets or families in need. They only care about booking office visits for billing. Heres our story. We have been taking our pets here since moving to Dallas in 2019. This year our oldest cat, LoJack, began having health issues at 21 years old. He has been with us since he was 6 weeks old. Dr. Ross helped us diagnose early stage Kidney Disease in February of this year. At the time we talked about palliative care, and how to determine his quality of life. This month LoJack began deteriorating rapidly, and we tried calling Dr. Ross - as she had asked us to do earlier this year - to discuss end of life decisions and set up an appointment to do whatever was necessary. Dr. Ross will not take our calls, and we cannot get an appointment set up for weeks - even when we explain the urgency. Our beloved pet is in pain, our family is in pain anticipating the loss of our oldest fur baby. Dr. Ross and CityVet could not care enough to even take a phone call. Now instead of dealing with things with Dignity, we are calling vets trying to get someone to help us. read more

I have been coming to this city vet for over 15 years. I've never had to use the groomers until this year there because we got a mini golden doodle. Today I dropped honey off for a wellness exam because she was due for shots and city vet is the only vet she's been to for records and shorts. She also had a grooming appointment and I have never been more disappointed in the service I was provided and that honey girl got. The groomer called me before the appointment to ask how I wanted the haircut and I was very specific I didn't want her to shave the ears when she ask and I ask for a teddy bear cut. The groomer tech new her ears were extra fluffy and she just didn't want to take the time to brush her out instead she shaved her ears. Then when I pick her up I don't notice until I am almost home but I notice her ears are bothering her and they cut both of her ears. DRIED blood on the tips of her ears. Like why would you not tell me when I picked her up. Do the groomers not look over the pet afterwards. How could they not see the blood. I am just shocked. Will never come back here! Honey girl has never had a groomer shave her ears before so I know that since this groomer took an hour to groom a mini doodle start to finish she was just rushing through the job and shaved her as short as possible so she'd had barley any work. This is not how I wanted to write a review for this place but I wanted to give a shout out anyways. I brought in my dog who was very sick and unfortunately, had to be put down during the visit. Dr. Coville and the vet tech were very helpful and super thoughtful and gracious during our visit. Dr. Coville made sure I knew of every option and walked me through the entire process during this painful experience. I had previously brought in my dog for a checkup and routine exam and had a good experience as well with another vet. Please do not take your dog here. We took a dog that we found on the street and the clinic didn't test for diseases like parvo or distemper that's common with abandoned dogs. We paid them & left with our 6 week old puppy who was contagious with distemper( which they did not test). She immediately started showing signs the following day not to mentioned they gave us deworming which made her feel even worse. We returned they offered us no explanation for not testing distemper or parvo. They made us buy medication for the first visit and if they would have tested her, we would have known about the disease. She wouldn't have lived out her last moments in pain from the deworming medication. On top of all this ,they Didn't compensate us and charged us for the second visit for their lapse of judgement. Please save yourself and your pet and DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!! **City vet: I spoke with 2 other vet clinics and they all agreed that you should have tested for parvo and distemper the first time we took her in based on her symptoms. We told you she didn't have an appetite, she had lots of nasal drainage, and was lethargic. ALL SIGNS OF DISTEMPER. This was an abandoned puppy and your vets felt no need to test for nothing besides worms. Your vet took her to the back room to clean her nose while risking exposing other dogs to the disease. If your clinic would have caught this, we wouldn't of given her the deworming medication that made her feel worse at a time where she was already dying. Take responsibility and quit putting the pet owners at fault for your lack of judgement. read more

There are good things and bad things. Let's start with the good. - Good: cleanliness, parking, relatively quick appointments, many rooms to be seen, wait time seems about average. Lots of cute animals in the lobby and the staff is very friendly. -Bad: level of detail when caring for animals. I will focus on 2 of the many issues I have seen here. FIRST my cat was diagnosed with ringworm by a dr at city vet. We spent months giving our cat oral medication (a very unpleasant experience forcing medication down your new kittens throat). After months, we saw another vet while traveling who was appalled with the "ringworm" diagnosis. It was actually just allergies and treatable by 1x a day otc allergy med. we had been spending all of this money on anti fungal oral medication for no reason. SECOND issue is subtle but still noteworthy. My cat is now a large cat. I mean very long and tall. He weighs 13.5 pounds. On our last vet visit, they ranked him a 9 out of 9 on the weight severity scale. Please look at these photos... do you think he is morbidly obese? No, he's not, and they want him to lose 50% of his body weight to weigh 8 pounds... This, to me, indicates that their care is general and not tailored to individual animals. I will not be returning. Maybe a normal sized cat should be 8 pounds, but ours is a large cat. It's upsetting. Again, very sweet staff, but the lack of customized care and absurd "diagnosis" means they have lost my business. read more

We saw a new vet today who was great, Dr Coville, but I'd avoid Dr Tsai at all costs. Dr Tsai seemed like he simply didn't care when he was asked questions, he messed up our shot records, set up an appointment for us and when we showed up said it was a mistake, he diagnosed our dog with Coccidia then didn't give proper meds for him despite telling us a worm med would fix him up. Luckily Dr Coville got us fixed up today but we wouldn't have come back if it were only Tsai. Techs and front office are always great tho, literally only Dr Tsai who I recommend avoiding. read more

We've been taking our goldendoodle Moose here for 4 months since we've gotten him. He's sees Dr. Wegenast and we are so pleased. He's wonderful with Moose and always reassures the paranoid dog mom in me. We've also get Moose groomed here and they do a great job (see ohEveryone at city vet uptown has been great. I would highly recommend Dr. Wegenast! Also their puppy plan is such a good deal if you're a paranoid dog mom like me, free vet visits during the first year I think! Also the rewards program is great be sure to sign up. Update - Heather is the lovely lady who we use to groom Moose. She is very patient and helps me understand what length would be best for him. This review is for the vet only. My shih-tzu was due for his heart guard medication, and I needed a refill. However, as we were away from home, I was unable to get a prescription from our regular vet, so I decided to schedule an appointment at CityVet Uptown due to its proximity to my location. The process of making an appointment over the phone was easy, and they were very flexible with getting him in the next day. On our appointment day, we checked-in with the front desk and within 5 minutes we were taken to the examination room by one of the staff members, where I answered basic questions (being a new client). They asked me for my dog's previous health records, which I had available through the VitusVet app and they were able to quickly get those records downloaded on their system. They told me that scanned copies or emails also work - definitely a technologically equipped vet (I have had some contrary experiences). The doctor came in to the room shortly after, asked some follow up questions, and recommended that I give my dog a vaccine that was due in a month (how thoughtful). My dog is an anxious freak but the doctor was calm and gentle with him and very politely answered my questions. Within 10 minutes, we were done with the checkup, blood draw, prescription for heart guard and were ready to check out. The inside is extremely clean, and they have a ton of prescription food brands/medicines readily available. Due to my positive experience, if I do have to take my dog to the vet in Dallas, this will be my goto place. I highly recommend CityVet Uptown for any veterinary needs you may have. read more

I took my dog Nyla there (Ruffit) across the street all the time as I travel for work. Last time. I've had her for 6+ years, no problem with "happy tail" which isn't even the issue. Apparently Broke her tail against the wall in the kennel & Wasn't notified that it happened until I walked in to pick her up. Then the vet doctor calls me from city vet to let me know they're covering the best option (amputating the end of her tail,) so I authorized it. Pick her up from City Vet, no hassle. 4/5 days later dropped back off at boarding (Ruffit) Upon pick up I call and ask how much the boarding was ($460) and now they say I owe for that surgery on top of that???? When she had already been home since. Refused. I pick her up with no wrap on the end of her tail, looking like an open wound. They put some sort of bandage on it and came off later that night, now I'm at ER paying a $400 tab because the blood spatter was slinging all over my house. I spend thousands of dollars with them for boarding and vet care & that was probably the last time she'll be back there to board after all this. Yikes read more

I am very disappointed with the grooming of my dog. I ask for him to be groomed even all around. Instead, I receive a call from the grooming services about Duke being matted. I advised the groomer that I would like him to be trimmed even all over. Next, we pick up Duke and he is shave down to minimum fur to pink skin. Both of his ears are cut and he bleeding. Two of his paws were trimmed uneven. He's extremely irritated and this is by far one of his worst experiences from CityVet. I am not pleased with the grooming service nor the groomer. This will be the last time we ever bring him to a CityVet grooming. read more

Let's start with the good: there is adequate parking, Dr. Ross is competent (if you're lucky enough to get to speak with her). Now the problems: the receptionist / vet techs are alarmingly condescending and vindictive. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt (e.g., overworked, bad day), but I've yet to encounter a single helpful employee. For example, today I spoke with Hannah. I sent in a picture of my pet's ailment, Hannah implied my pet could be dying and needed to be seen by the vet immediately. I called, alarmed, asking for general guidance on what types of diagnostics they might run or how skin problems are typically remedied. Hannah cut me off to say she couldn't offer medical advice "for free over the phone." She proceeded to interrupt similar questions about general outlook / next steps by saying I needed to "bring my pet and pay for it." I asked if the doctor would have time to call me back and clarify what I could expect. She said the doctor was in surgery and wouldn't have time to talk, today, tomorrow, or at all this week. Unfortunately, Hannah is par for the course when you need context or guidance from this churn and burn facility. read more

The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because the staff at the City Vet doggie daycare next to the vet's office are super sweet and nice. I loved the daycare, but the vets are less than average with extremely high prices, and I won't go back. I went to this vet for about 2 years because I was new to the area and didn't know where else to go that was better. I started volunteering with an animal rescue group and met a vet tech at a nearby animal hospital that is wonderful! My pug recently got very sick and wouldn't eat or drink for days, then when she did, she threw up everything. I took her to the animal hospital, and the vet there was able to diagnose my pug without running a bunch of tests. At City Vet, they would run every test possible until they found the solution, often without asking you, then hand you a HUGE bill. At the animal hospital, the vet diagnosed my pug with the most likely cause, then said if she wasn't better to come back for more testing because she didn't want to do unnecessary testing and charge me for it. Love!! Not only does City Vet charge way too much and could care less about the patient's wallet, quality of service is poor too. I can't tell you how many times I've taken my dog in for shots and requested bathing services as well, then got home to discover her ears weren't cleaned and nails were bleeding from nail trims. It made me wonder if they even did any of the services I requested and paid for! The blood drew the line for me. I know accidents happen, but with them, it was too many! Don't go here- there are plenty of good vets nearby, just read others' reviews! Update on 07/15/11 since original review: I ordered some Heartgard medicine for my dog through 1800PetMeds, and the company had to call CityVet Uptown for approval. Even though I no longer go to this awful vet, it should have been no big deal since my dog was completely updated on yearly shots and testing in September 2010. CityVet told me they wouldn't allow the prescription since they have no record of me buying Heartgard since before September 2010. I understand vets don't want to let people give their dogs Heartgard if they have missed any doses, but my dog hasn't missed any, I've just been buying it elsewhere. I told CityVet that too, but they said I needed to show them receipts of my Heartgard purchases. Yeah, ok, because who keeps those?! Last time I ordered through 1800PetMeds, CityVet made me come in to get a hand written prescription instead of telling 1800PetMeds over the phone that it was ok when 1800PetMeds called them! Then, when I picked up the prescription, they gave me this letter about how buying products like Heartgard through places like 1800PetMeds hurts their business. I call bullcrap because they already charge extremely high prices for less than average service, plus I don't think spending $60 a year on Heartgard somewhere else hurts them. That's why I stopped updating them on my Heartgard purchases because I didn't want to feel harassed again. I'll just have to get my dog's heartworm testing done before she actually needs it at my new vet so that I can order Heartgard now. Ridiculous!! read more

This is your typical Uptown vet: Looks great, cost a lot and has little to offer in terms of true quality. Upon getting my second dog, I thought I would try City Vet since it was closer to my home. My second dog was a mess when I first got her and they had a lot to work with. She was a scared rescue that developed a hot wound on her neck, had just recovered from heart worms and other things I'll not mention in case you're eating your lunch. :) Our first visit was alright. They were attentive to her being scared and told me up front what they thought would need to happen. I wasn't disappointed until when I came to pick her up. Though her wounds were taken care of I found quite a few expenses on my bill that didn't make sense. After inquiring, it seemed like by asking I didn't care about my dog and shouldn't question them. It wasn't until about three follow-up visits and SEVERAL bills later that I realized it wasn't worth taking her there. The last time I've had any interaction with this vet, it was about a two months ago and I was trying to get some pet meds through a promotion they were doing. At first, they seemed eager to help me, but it ended with me not getting what I paid for and an even worst taste in my mouth for their office. read more

City Vet is the only vet I would consider for my dogs. It's disappointing that some others have had bad experiences, but I'm hoping these are unique situations with each of these pets. I've been fortunate enough to have positive experiences throughout the time I've been going to them. I've been using them for 6 years now, ever since my oldest of 2 dogs was a puppy. I initially started going there because they were located 2 blocks from my old apartment. Even though I now live across town, I still go out of my way to continue to use City Vet. Although all the vets we have worked with at City Vet have been fine, I have to say the favorite of myself and my dogs is Dr. Matt Murphy. You can clearly tell that he cares about animals and is providing the best care that your pet could receive. Anytime we have to go in, we always ask for an appointment with Dr. Murphy. In regards to the services I have used, they include annual and mid-annual checkups, teeth cleaning, grooming, spaying/neutering and one-off visits due to random illnesses. Dr. Murphy was also able to assist with finding specialists for one dog's back surgery and another dog's root canal. I have also used the boarding services with the City Vet Dog Loft. read more

Ultimately we think that Dr. Ross was too conservative in treating our dog's chronic ear infection over several months. As a result the condition became exacerbated, required a visit to MedVet's emergency room, resulted in additional (and several duplicate) medical fees, and caused permanent nerve damage to our dog's inner ear - all of which was also unduly traumatic to us as pet owners. A animal dermatologist resolved the issue, that Dr. Ross was unable to resolve in over six months, in under three weeks. While we understand general practitioners are faced with treating a large variety of animals and conditions on a regular basis, it was her continued inability to truly listen to us as "parents" and respond intuitively to our pet's obvious and dramatic symptoms that prompted us to switch veterinarians and practices. While the front desk staff are very friendly, the communication is often disorganized, frantic, and incomplete. read more

The past two years I've had close to excellent experiences with city vet uptown today was very different and I'm not sure why. - Long wait time - Disorganization from vet tech and front desk staff - High sales pressure - Adding stuff that I did not request - Judgmental behavior $150 for a Bad experience and made me very uncomfortable as a pet owner who was already stressed out with a sick dog on her hands. Management did reach out to me and apologized and said he would work on this issues with the staff. Felt like some sort of compensation should have been made. We most likely won't return. read more
