I work right next to the Civic Cafe! It saves me each time I forget my lunch! My favorite is the buffalo chicken wrap and the chicken avocado bowl. Service is fast and quick and they're great people. Place is small but they do have a couple of tables and chairs. read more

I was miffed when k first came here because they took forever with my order and served one person who came in after me but I forgave them when k got my breakfast burrito. It was so good. Had grill marks on the tortilla. The bacon was extra crispy. So good I came back the next day. It doesn't have much ambiance. It's like they converted the smallest office they have on the 4th floor to a cafe to feed the people who work at 1200 3rd ave. But man the food is good and cheap. read more

Made an online lunch order for a turkey focaccia. It was delicious and very reasonably priced at $10. I work in a different building so it was a trek to get here but it was well worth it. They substituted my cheese for avocado at no additional cost. Keep in mind that that this cafe is in an office building and you will need to pass security and go through an elevator to get here. All in all, would return. It was really good, one of the best sandwiches I've had for lunch in the area. read more

Never heard of this place, but Relish (our meal delivery service) at work had a business cancel last minute and brought us an assortment of packaged boxes lunches from here and we were pleasantly surprised. The flaming chicken sandwich I chose had a nice kick and the meat was good quality. The bread was nicely toasted and the combination of toppings and flavors was nice. There was a small bag of Lays and a bar that I was at first disappointed to discover was oatmeal chocolate chip. But I ended up enjoying it a lot-it had a nice soft chewy texture and nutty flavor from the oatmeal. I could see craving those bars. Thanks Civic Center Cafe! read more

I had the SoCal Bowl and it was awesome! I got feta cheese instead of the cheddar to make it healthier. The portion size is ample and it's priced fairly. I love places that make excellent food and charge a fair price. Ninety-five percent of restaurants are overcharging for food because they want their patrons to help fund employee wages and other operational costs that come from being an entrepreneur. That is not our responsibility! I only want to pay for food and a tip if I dine there. This was my first time ordering from here and it was a pleasant surprise. Since the bowl was so good and fairly priced, this cafe will now become my "go to" for a quick and healthy breakfast if I don't cook myself. My intent is to over-do-it to show my appreciation for a well priced and healthy meal. Thank me later for the post Yelpers and remember to be thankful and gracious that this kind of place exists because other small business owners are raking us over the coals, thinking they are "entitled" to a profit because of the high risk of failure in the restaurant business. No person or business is entitled to a profit; it must be earned. Civic Center Cafe is earning it and I'm proud to share my experience with everyone! read more

Food was fine. I had the chicken sandwich with hot sauce. I forgot the name as it was really something I could of made at home. My friend had the turkey club wrap. Price was fair for what you got. What threw me off is the location and ambiance. On Yelp is seemed like a legit cafe inside of an office building serving paninis. It's the size of a hotel room and not at all open airy as the pictures make it look. We chose it because it was close to the theater and had decent reviews, but it's definitely not a pre-theater place but more of a quick option for the office people in that building. read more

A wonderful, healthy change. This cafe replaces the previous cafe and it is a wonderful, healthy change for the tasty better. The food here is fresh, the menu items are original and healthy. Brie and arugula and organic choices throughout the menu. I work in the building and and I'm so happy to be greeted with a smile and a tempting menu. I'm that these folks are in my building with great breakfast and lunch options. Today, I had the courthouse club. I work in the Civic Center, but even if I didn't I would still come to this café every day. Half of my paycheck goes to this café, but I wouldn't want it any other way. A very sweet family owns this café, and their customer service is honestly beyond the 5 stars I can leave on yelp. Their food is fresh, healthy, and delicious. I have had several things on the menu, and nothing has disappointed. The buffalo bowl and avocado toast are my favorites. They have fresh baked goods by the register, and you can just taste how homemade everything is. It is the type of place you want to eat lunch at, because you feel full enough to continue working throughout the day. Please stop by. The definition of a hidden gem. Located inside on the 4th floor of the civic center building, I'm visiting but wouldn't go anywhere else when I'm back in the area. This place was conveniently located nearby when I was on jury duty in downtown San Diego. I saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try. Note that it is on the 4th floor of the civic center building, so you will not see a store face from the street, but it's highly worth it to go inside! My food was delicious, fresh and handmade--I had the combo. lunch with a half sandwich (Bacon Brie Panini) and soup (Parmesan Orzo). Great flavor and high-quality ingredients, plus the staff are very nice and helpful! I will definitely come back whenever I'm in the area. read more

Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures.
