I think this place is a must in Springfield, MO. They have good staff that are always friendly and helpful. They also have a great menu, every time I go I get the seafood beignets. The beignets are pretty big and they come with blueberry ketchup that is delicious. This past time I went I got the Bacon and Date Salad and I would highly recommend. The pecans that came on the salad were candied and so good. I also really liked how the balsamic dressing complimented the sweetness of the dates. This location had the honor of being our very first restaurant we tried in the area! This was on our list of eateries as it was both near our hotel and highly rated on Yelp! Went in and were seated on the entry side not too far from the hostess podium. They have two distinct sides that are broken by a hallway that has their bathrooms. Draft offerings were clearly visible on the main column on chalk signage. Menu has a good mix of options. We shared the crack bread appetizer (yes, get this), I had black n' bleu salad - steak had good seasoning, I recommend a different dressing than the orange vinaigrette and a glass of wine. Items came out pretty quickly and we enjoyed sitting and watching downtown action through the windows. Overall: A Good first restaurant experience in Springfield. That wasn't too bad, but almost half the tables were empty.. When we were able to get sat, we ordered 2 appetizers for the table right away. We got the appetizers about 25 minutes later, but still were not able to order drinks. The food was good, but the service was very much lacking. It should not take 2 hours in the middle of the afternoon to get lunch and a cpl beers from the time you sit down. I would say staffing was a big part, but still. Way too long. read more

Started our night out on the town at Civil Kitchen because I heard about their unique menu items from a trusted friend of mine! She recommended we sit upstairs, it was much more laid back and less chaotic (no TVs, less tables etc.) than the main floor; which I always appreciate. The menu had a wide variety of options Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and Donuts, great salad choices and even Prime Rib! I chose the Apple, Bacon, Cheddar panini served on a waffle. It was good, but I definitely considered it more of a sandwich than a panini as the sandwich in its entirety isn't grilled or pressed. The flavors were great together but the waffle was a little overpowering for the other items. Loved it as an open face sandwich. Side was the signature Brussel Sprouts and I would absolutely recommend including them on your next visit. The beer selection was great! I did opt for a flight so I could try a variety of local brews and our waitress was wonderful when it came to suggestions. Love that they incorporate seasonal brews into their menu.
