Went for dinner last night. Food was very good but I doubt I will ever return.
Went to dinner with my sons (twins/birthday), my wife, daughter in-law and 6 month old grand daughter. Had reservations for 7:30 pm and arrived a little early. Was seated almost immediately (this is important to the story).
The place is a tad spartan with a bar/grille inside and balcony seating outside. We decided to eat outside.
We ordered drinks and in all fairness, they were pretty slow to deliver and we also ordered appetizers; stuffed mushroom caps and artichoke dip. Both were very good but again, it took well over 30 minutes to arrive. We had no plates, no silverware and by the time it was delivered..., we had pretty much eaten the food with our hands.... We tried to laugh it off and move on but the service never got better.....
It was hard to not notice that our drink orders continued to pale in terms of delivery time as compared to the other tables around us. In fact, one table of a number of folks became very over served, loud and obnoxious (shouting F word, etc.). Look, I have no problem with folks having a good time, getting a little loud, etc., but hey..., I am here with an infant and 2 ladies and I really don't want to hear the F word shouted from a table of over-served patrons.
We waited over an hour for dinner and I finally reached the point where I told the waitress that I was running out of patience and she might have to "box" our dinner. She said, sorry we are slow, it's coming right up.
I waited another 20 minutes, heard another F word or two, saw our table being minimally served with long waits for drink re-orders while other tables had cocktails all "lined up".
I went downstairs and told our waitress that I had waited nearly an hour and a half for our dinner, the other folks upstairs are over served and behaving poorly. I told her to settle my bill and that I would pay for our drinks and our appetizers but I don't want the dinner. I handed her my credit card and waited another 10 minutes for a bill to sign.
I was standing by the bar and the bartender asked if I wanted a drink and I told him quickly that I had waited too long for dinner and want my bill. Another 5 or so minutes passed (total time about 1 hour 35 or so minutes) and she comes out with bags of food and my bill.
I immediately told her, "I said I didn't want the food..."
Her Manager came out with her and apologized for the delay and I preceded to tell him how long I had waited (over an hour and 30 minutes) and I didn't want the food.
Now of all the things that Manager could say, might say or should have said..., what he chose to say was, 'Sir, it wasn't an hour and 30 minutes......" So instead of saying anything like, "How do I make this right.....???" Or..., "Is there anything I can do...???" He chose to call his customer..., for the most part..., a liar.
That didn't go over well with me and I told him..., "We had reservations and were early.... You can check your own log book for our reservation....."
My grand daughter was over tired (6 month old and after 9 pm) and I needed to go and was tired of the entire ordeal ... "Fine..., I'll pay.....!!!!"
Signed the bill (~$200) and walked out. I always leave a tip but not in this case.
Again the food was certainly good but in all candor..., the size of the steaks while fine, could have only taken 10 minutes to cook..... There is little doubt in my mind that nobody started on my food until I walked down to force the settlement of my bill.
Very, very frustrating..... read more
