This is the best auto parts store around, one time I needed an electric fuel pump for my boat motor, it was a 1955 40 horse. Nobody had parts for the mechanical fuel pump they asked me what it was for. I told them and they got a pump that would work for me. I bypassed the old mechanical one every other shop wanted to know what vehicle it went into what year making and model and said oh, we can't help you. CAP Is the best. Our go to parts store! The people here are super knowledgeable and do a great job anytime we drop parts off here at the machine shop. They have a lot of parts on hand as well. We've had parts hot tanked and rotors turned here for many, many, years. They're always exceptional, fast, and friendly. Today April 24,2024 I cane in because the battery a repair shop had installed failed. Again Dan had to take the trunk apart to get to the battery and told me that it did not look like the right battery for my car. I called Toyota and they told me what I needed. Toyotas cost was $200.00 for the battery and $100 for installation. Dan found the right battery and ordered it and told me to come back at 3 and he was going to install it for me no extra charge. I will NEVER go to another auto parts store. I understand why they have been in business for 90 years. They really care about their customers and will do anything they can to help. Dan is a perfect example to his employees on how to treat everyone that walks in his door. I have done business with them before and they have been wonderful. Super service and very convenient. I needed a new headlight. I didn't catch the guys name who helped me, so shout out to the nameless guy. We went to the car to make sure we had the correct part. He went under the hood and took it out. After he ensured we had the right one, he said "Let me just put this one back in for you". Yeah it just took a minute, but I thought that was great service. Today Jan 22, 2024 I called Clackamas Auto Parts on Main St. in Oregon City, OR to see what time they closed and was told they close at 5:30 and it was 5:20. He asked me what I needed and I told him I noticed one of my lights was not working and my bright lights were not working at all. He then asked me how far away was I and I told him about 10 minutes. He said " Drive safely and I will wait for you." He did not just sell me the lights he took the time to install them. One of the lights was difficult and he had to remove screws to install the lights. He installed my regular lights and my bright lights. My bill was $37.00. He was so sweet. I asked him if He was the owner and he said he was. His name is Dan. I will NEVER go to another auto parts store. I understand why they have been in business for 90 years. They really care about their customers and will do anything they can to help. I believe I was there till 6:30. He was never in a hurry and took all the time needed to make my lights work. I have done business with them before and they have been wonderful. As a woman, most auto parts stores make me feel.. I don't know, maybe less than par or lower on the ladder than say, A man. They either completely ignore me or treat me with a huff and sigh because I didn't know off the top of my head what liter engine I have. That's why I LOVE Clackamas Auto parts. They always treat me with respect, ask how I'm doing, come out and look at my car if necessary, and help me figure out what I need. Then they always offer me about 3 different price range and quality of parts. It seems that ALL auto parts stores sell you the wrong part the first time and you have to turn around and drive clear back. Well, CAP hardly ever sells me the wrong part and even if they did, they are close enough to return it without a lot of time, traffic and hassle. Sometimes they may not have the cheapest price, but it's because they aren't a huge chain buying everything in bulk. They're the little guy, that's managed to stay in business for over 50 years directly across the street from a National chain store. I dare you to find a more helpful, and knowledgable group of people than those at Clackamas auto. I've bought parts from them since I've owned a car. I can send my wife there for wipers and they gladly INSTALL them for you. No matter what part I need they will dig it up, and if they don't have it sitting there it's always there the next day. One night I needed a battery, they were closing in minutes. Art (the big chief) offered to stay late to get it to me. I didn't make him do it, but that's the kind of people you're dealing with when you patronize this cool old school shop. Real service from people that live to keep us all in the road. OK, I'll start off by saying that I really miss GI Joe's. That was my go to spot for outdoor/fishing gear and basic auto parts. Now day's Oregon City doesn't have many auto parts stores to chose from. Since I needed some oil and a couple other maintenance items so I thought I'd give Clackamas Auto a shot. First, this is kind of a cool, easy to find location with adequate parking. That said, maybe I'm just being a little bitch but I was annoyed that they didn't have an accessible garbage can outside or inside the store. If you ask you can give your garbage to someone who will throw it away behind the counter. This is probably by design but I find it kind of odd at an auto parts store where you might stop in to buy a quart of oil which you immediately add to your vehicle. Second, they don't have prices listed for any of their merchandise. This is kind of a big thing given the wide discrepancy in pricing for a gallon of oil or a jug of anti-freeze these days. To be clear, they don't have pricing listed on the shelf, nor do they have old school pricing stickers on the item itself. This is very annoying in a retail setting. In order to find out what the pricing was for the various oil options, I had to ask the sales clerk who outlined the prices. While the selection was somewhat sparse I didn't think the pricing was terribly out of line (maybe 10% more than at Autozone). I should also add that the staff was very friendly...absolutely no complaints in that area. I'm giving them 3 stars simply because the people that work here are friendly and they are an independent business. Frankly, I intended to only give them 2 stars but I get the impression that the majority of their business revolves around ordering parts which I have yet to do with them. If they were to simply invest in a pricing gun (the old school kind that puts a small square pricing sticker on each product) or list the pricing on the shelf below the item I would give this place 4 stars. read more

Art, the owner, is the nicest guy ever. Snowmageddon #4 last night, so I called this morning to see if they had any tire chains left. He said they had 1 pair left in the size I needed and that he'd hold them for me. I ended up walking the 2 miles, in the snow, to their shop because the Trimet bus never came. I made my purchase, and as I was leaving he offered to give me a ride home!! He said he thinks it's fun driving in the snow, so he was more than happy to get out of the shop for a few minutes. Old school, neighborly kindness is what Art shared with me today. It was great to get her such service, and I'm happy to have been able to give my money to a local, family owned store. I went to this place today looking for what I thought would be a run of the mill headlamp for my Toyota Solara. Dan Trappe was the guy who helped me. He found the standard Solara headlamp ($14) and offered to go out to the car and install the replacement bulb. But when he looked at the one already installed, it was different from the one the database showed. He said it was a high intensity lamp ($125). Apparently Toyota designed the headlights to take this expensive lamp as part of the high performance package put on this particular Solara. So Dan called around and found one at another store in the area. He told me to buy the exotic headlamp there and bring it back to him so he could install it for me. He explained that the store with the lamp had a policy of not helping customers install parts. That store is NAPA auto parts up the road in the town of Clackamas. The people there were very cooperative, but they couldn't violate company policy. I don't begrudge NAPA the right make their own policies, but this policy pointed me toward Clackamas Auto Parts, which is willing to be helpful, and away from NAPA. I tried to pay Dan something for his time and trouble in installing a part that he didn't even get to sell, but he politely refused, saying, "Just come back." You bet.
