Today alone, they refused to perform warranty work, failed to document the actual reason I brought the vehicle in, and then misquoted me on the repair cost. How does an automobile service manager lose business in ten seconds? It seems like Armstrong VW in Gladstone, OR is working really hard to do just that. Today they informed me that my repair was ready to go. And I asked them to provide an Uber for me to take me from my house to the facility so I can pick up my car. It's something they've done EVERY SINGLE TIME IN THE PAST. Now they're telling me, they'll only cover $15 toward the cost of the Uber, and everything else will go on my bill. They said it was a "management decision." Let me just add, this is going to be an expensive repair (over $1000). They did, in fact, charge me the extra $3 for the Uber and when I spoke to the service manager, he threw his arms up and said, this is a company decision. I knew that the DMV was over run with work, and it would take around 6 weeks. I wanted/needed the license plate number for permits for parking, for Breezeby, for my insurance company, etc. After 8 weeks I called the DMV to check on the status. Avoid the Armstrong VW service department *at all costs.* These jokers must have eye-watering boat payments or something, because every time our Passat leaves the lot they have damaged the electrical system and the interior in some surprising new way, IF THEY EVEN DO THE WORK YOU EXPECT. They are disorganized, dishonest, and disinterested. Our current slate of Armstrong Volkswagen FUBARS is: - A "free" lightbulb owed because they "ripped us off" for one last time. - A turn signal & running light that don't work in the rain after they recall-replaced our engine. - A transmission(?) issue where downhill-facing turns disengage the power train somehow, also from the engine replacement. - The cigarette lighter and console-storage USB charger that stopped working after their *unsuccessful* diagnosis of the turn signal & running light. - 3 detached panels on both sides of the front cabin after various visits. - Front shocks (struts? Idk) that we had "replaced" because they were old, squeaky, and bouncy, but they never stopped squeaking & bouncing. I regret not demanding the new boxes & old parts in advance, since they had already burned us so many times by this point. - Stunning amounts of time wasted because they are either unable to allocate inventory to repairs, or they don't have enough admin manpower, not sure which. Barring oil changes, I can't recall one single visit that actually happened on the original date. Today, because we are ABSOLUTE SUCKERS, I am going back to the shop to pick up our car, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, because, despite "ordering" the part, scheduling weeks in advance, and dropping the car off at the 8:30am appointment for a *1pm* pickup time, the improv comics running this show thought it'd be funny to make the nice gal at the desk call us at *1:30pm* to tell us that, yes, our car was now ready to pick up, and, they didn't have the part! This review is only for the service department, not for sales. First time there, but took a bit to setup our account. Took our 2016 E-Golf in for standard 50K mile maintenance. My wife made the appointment but I gave them my phone number to contact. Car was dropped of right at 8 AM. after 3 pm, didn't hear back so I decided to call them. I guess they were busy, as they didn't have the final paperwork done. They didn't find any issues. I gave them my credit card and they called me back an hour later. Since I was going after work and live 15 miles away, I wasn't going to get my car before they closed. However, they left the keys and the paperwork with the sales team. Too my surprise car was washed and looked great. It was sitting right outside the service area. Very easy to pickup and they had charged it to almost full. I would go back to them again for service. Did get a low tire pressure warning after driving away from the dealership. Thought maybe we had a flat but tire pressure was just low on one of the tires. We knew that because we too it to a tire repair shop the next day and just adding more add fixed it. Seems odd that a service department wouldn't know the right air pressure. read more

Bought a Sante Fe from them from a salesman named Zack who was over the top with communication before the sale ended. Got the car and the next day the radio would not shut off and I had to unhook the battery cable to get it to shut off. The radio clock goes from correct time to an hour earlier constantly. Called him and he was "unwell" so no call back. I've called 5 or 6 times now, it's been over a week and still no call back. Avoiding a customer phone call is unprofessional to say the least. Sad part is, I love the car just wanted to ask him if there was any history regarding the electrical (since I bought it "as is") and say thank you. I will never buy from them again. I drive a 2021 VW Tiguan SE 4Motion with less than 25k miles on it. My windshield wiper fluid started malfunctioning and was spraying into the interior cabin of the vehicle. I scheduled service and dropped my car off at Armstrong VW on 8/26/23. I was given frequent dishonest updates throughout the timeline of repairs. I wasn't going to leave a review because Dennis the service manager had my car detailed for the troubles. ALTHOUGH, my car was returned back to me with paint damage on my passenger side door, which really is the cherry on top of this whole experience for me. Went in for windshield wiper system, left with missing paint. Now I have to go back to Armstrong for additional repair for the damage they left on my door. I am hesitant to even to leave it with them again because now I don't trust them to take proper care of my car. Absolutely would not recommend working with service advisor Phil or technician Brian Sanders. Phil was dishonest about what was going on with my car while it was under their care, and Brian returned it to me with paint damage. I am expecting Armstrong VW to make this right outside of court, otherwise I have no issue having the paint damage repaired somewhere else, and taking legal action for cost of repairs, loss of use, and any rental cost associated with doing so. I have an appointment for the damage to be looked at on Monday 9/18 at 4pm with Chris, I will update my review then. ***Monday 9/18 Update*** Armstrong VW has acknowledged the damage and is making right by having the damage repaired. Took my 2014 Passat TDI in for service and was presented with a list of recommended and necessary repairs. However, some of the recommended repairs were for parts that were recently replaced and didn't require immediate attention. The main issue turned out to be a faulty G31 sensor. When I called the service center for clarification, I specifically inquired if it was the turbo boost sensor, which had been replaced by another mechanic just prior to my visit. I was informed over the phone that it was a MAP sensor, which is a different part located in a more challenging area to access. While I could have easily replaced the turbo sensor myself in 15 minutes, my mechanic had the part on hand and offered to install it at no additional labor cost, only charging for the part itself. However, the sensor was not a "VW" part, even though it was manufactured by BOSCH, the same company that produces VW parts. Unfortunately, this meant the sensor was not covered under the extended diesel warranty. Believing the sensor replacement was for the MAP sensor, which I assumed I couldn't replace myself, I authorized VW Armstrong to proceed with the replacement. It turned out they replaced the turbo sensor instead. To add to the surprise, they charged me $100 more for the part than its direct cost from VWparts, and an additional $240 for what amounted to 15 minutes of labor. Car is running well for now but definitely have a sour taste in my mouth for being ripped off. When I expressed my frustration for the outlandish labor costs, I was told understand where you are coming from and apologize. The acknowledgment is nice but doesn't help the damage. I'd give one star but the 2nd star is for the acknowledgment. ** two weeks later and my glow plug light is back on and I'm sure they will say this doesn't fall under the VW TDI extended warranty. Completely fucked me over and charged me $6K extra than needed for "fees and taxes". Went in to buy a car listed for $15,990, brought $9k and was planning to finance $7K for the rest. Somehow had a $800 dealership fee added that I did not want and actually specifically said I did not want it, still was charged for it. And then got financed for $13K instead of $7K. So yeah don't go here and do not do business with Maurice Eaton either unless you want to be taken advantage of. Apparently it costs $8K in fees and taxes just to drive a car off the lot! AVOID. I purchased a used 2021 Toyota 4Runner from these guys, and while the price was decent, I was lied to at multiple steps throughout the process. First, I was assured that basic maintenance had been performed on the vehicle prior to purchase. About 1000 miles in, I noticed the motor had a slight tick to it. Took the car to Valvoline who noted that the oil level was dangerously low in the vehicle, and when they pulled out the engine air filter and the cabin air filter, it looked like they had never been replaced. Disgusting corner cutting by Armstrong Volkswagen. In addition to that, during the test drive, I noticed a couple of cracks in the windshield. The salesman at the time told me that the windshield would be replaced by the dealership. I mentioned this to Lou, the internet sales guy, who said he would follow up with the sales manager and call me back. They knew I was about to move out of Oregon, and even though I personally followed up with the dealership, I never received a call back. Lou sounded surprised when I followed up asking about the windshield replacement a couple of days later and even asked me "when are you leaving town?" They clearly dragged their feet in order to avoid replacing the windshield with the knowledge that I was leaving soon. The ad said the vehicle came with weatherproof mats. It did not. When inquiring about this, Lou said "oh, the ad must have been wrong." The whole process felt scummy. Avoid at all cost, these guys will do anything to save a buck. read more

Stay out of this VW Armstrong! I'm out of state customer and found beautiful car thru online on July 6th. I sent messages and got mentioned with Dan Burke, Fleet Manager, that the car was not ready. I asked him to him to keep this loop with me when it will be ready. July 7th - I texted and emailed with Dan Burke and mentioned that he will get back to me either Friday July 8th or the follow next Monday 11th. July 11th - I haven't heard from Dan Burke. I bugged and nudged thru email and texted. I'm told that again this car wasn't ready. I called and asked for a different salesperson. Dan referred me to Taylor F. I emailed, texted repeated and gave calls. No Answer! July 12 - I received Taylor F. thru texted all day and afternoon with numbers and ran credit checked twice. He snapshots those few papers with their signed. I told this was good and almost finalized. Again, I told him that I was happier to pay down payment to hold that vehicle. He and VW Armstrong dealership cannot accept any deposit to hold vehicle! He was gone for the day and will back to me in next day. I save those texts. July 13 - He texted me that this vehicle was sold without my knowledge. How did it happen? Taylor and ran my credit twice? It stopped responding to my texts or email at all! IGNORED ME! I called a several times and asked for Sale Manager and General Manager. I was transferred and left their Voicemails with my name and number. I don't understand why they don't get back to me. I wanted to share my frustrated experience. Again, I called and asked for either manager. None of them don't answer or Voicemails. Finally, We got a call and it was Lou with angry voice. I heard Lou talked with Taylor. "This are deaf people, who wanted to talk with you." She labeled us and strong discrimination. I think Lou doesn't see how much of my time that I tried to purchase this beautiful vehicle for my wife in days ago. She jumped on this and told me tel tell my wife "Calm down" with her bad attitude and hung up on us. This is BAD! I did share this to VW Headquarter! July 15th, I decided to move on with different dealership and purchased out of state vehicle thru the phone and sold easily. Other dealership accepted with my deposit. Updated this review after working with a fantastic manager. First off, these people are really busy. For servicing, plan to drop off and leave rather than wait. When I dropped off the guy said they'd just get the car checked in and it shouldn't take to long. I asked how long it would be and got a non answer. Their website says they do have a free ride option if you sign up for it, which I didn't do since I thought it would be quick. All in all, it took a little over three hours. 30 minutes of that time I was waiting for no reason since they contacted my husband instead of me when it was ready. I told the guy when I arrived that my husband couldn't be reached and they needed to contact me. Since I was going to wait on site, they'd just let me know in person he said. This wasn't the case. They emailed my husband instead, which he didn't see since he was busy at work. We bought new tires from the dealership and at the time, they told us they had road protection. If you have any issues, come back in and we'll take care of you, the man said. A year later when a nail is in the tire, they say it's too close to the side wall and can't be fixed and the only option is replacing it. And that these tires specifically have no warranty on them. Conveniently, the person we bought them from doesn't work there anymore, so the same guy I'd been working with told me the only option was to buy a new one. I could tell the guy was busy and frazzled, but wasn't about to buy another warranty-less new tire from them. The guy said he'd tell the technicians not to replace the tire and I was planning to leave after letting him know how disappointed we were. I decided to talk to a manager in case a manager would be able to help me with this issue. It turned out that these tires were the only ones available for purchase from them for my car at the time. And that yes, they had no warranty. Since we were without options when we purchase them and were told something that wasn't accurate, he graciously offered to replace the tire for us free of charge. He was very kind and understanding and communicated well throughout the rest of the appointment. All other appointments here have gone well, so I am hoping that the issues we had all stemmed from a former employee and a frazzled morning where appointments were being juggled as best they could. read more

I bought my VW Golf Sportswagen a few years ago and I love the car. It has a moonroof ( big mistake). I don't use it. I don't like the sound or air above my head. It developed a leak and I had an inch of water in the back passenger side floorboard. They told me the moonroof was frame was bent. Over 2000.00! I just about threw up as I don't use it. Then just recently it started leaking again. I think it was around Nov. I took in and had the drains cleaned 189.00. Less than a month later it was leaking again. I made an appointment and took it back in and was told it was going to cost 400.00 and take up to 3 days to diagnose. I told him I'm not paying. He asked if I park my car outside. I said yes and still reminded him I don't use my sunroof. He said all it takes is a few fir needles to cause a leak. So I ask him if a person is supposed to bring their car in every couple weeks to be cleaned? When I started investigating online about the moonroof I was surprised at how many people had problems with their roofs. I've been in customer service jobs for years and that is not how you handle an unhappy customer. I would have look at what the problem is a no charge and not take up to 3 days doing it! Now here is a guy who has good communication and customer service ! Next dealing was with JEFF...well two bad apples is just crappy training or lack of care on the dealership! Sleazy family operation. We wanted to purchase one of their used cars, and even though we had our own credit union financing, they wouldn't accept it. We had to complete one of their own credit applications so they "knew who we were". Then Dave the finance manager met with us with a higher interest rate loan, plus additional mandatory costs like $798 for an installed gps tracker, and pressure to include additional warranty and service contracts. We contacted our credit union and they said that dealers will typically send them a purchase order, and then our credit union sends the check to them via FedEx. We found the finance manager in the owner's office and explained this, but they would only agree if we had a "back up contract" with them. By this time, we had lost all trust with them and walked away. Very disappointing! read more

Run, don't walk, away from this dealership. They tried to sell us a 2015 VW GTI that had been wrecked. The car fax showed "minor to moderate' damage to the front and rear which (Lie #1) they said meant less than $750 in repairs. Next, we noticed the front left and right rear tires had been replaced - which is odd as tires don't wear that way but they said they talked to their mechanic and he just got the tires mixed up when he was putting them back on the car (Lie #2). No decent mechanic does that and I doubt the sales guy even talked to the mechanic. The big lie was revealed when we took the car to a mechanic and found that the rear of the car was damaged to the point of the rear upper shock attachment being ripped away from the body and the rear tires hung at different heights when on the rack. The mechanic called it severe body damage and opined the car was worth very little given the previous damage. Armstrong said they car had passed their detailed inspection but if they pulled the wheels (which they had to do to replace 2 of the tires) this damage is impossible to miss. They are fully aware of the damage and selling this car on their lot. There was also signs of oil leaks at the back of the head gasket and on the oil pan. We dodged a bullet on this car but the next potential buyer might not be so lucky. THIS DEALERSHIP IS DISHONEST AND IS SELLING DAMAGED CARS. read more

I went here to purchase a vehicle and have never been treated so poorly by the Finance people. They had tried to add on "Accessories" of 2300.00. Stargard for was one item for $795, which is a vehicle tracker they put on every car in their lot and try to stick the customer with the big bill. No explanation, but when asked about the add ones, they treat you like you're stupid and have no option to refuse. My first 10k service I found out I had a small screw in the rear tire that caused it to slowly leak air over time. Shorty after purchasing I had some issues with a screeching sound coming from the the rear underneath the car. I scheduled a service appointment and dropped it off for several days where they had an expert technician survey the area where the noise was coming from and drove it 40+ miles to attempt to figure out the issue. After getting the car back they noted in the service report that nothing seemed out of the ordinary and there was nothing wrong with the car but the issue persisted. I have also had 2 service appointments where they have told me I would be able to have a loaner car and then upon arrival they had nothing available so I missed work or other commitments because of it. After you buy a car and they have your money there isn't much focus on customer retention. The only saving grace is I love the car but I did that research on my own. read more

We were a bit confused as we agreed on the first one we were presented with & we were told we were going into his office to sign the paperwork for it. We told him that we were not interested in the others & that we wanted to proceed with the paperwork for the first one. Instead of listening to us, he says, "hold on... I'm waiting on a response from another bank..." What??! As his customer, he could've cared less about what we wanted. He didn't listen to us, he talked over us, & was super pushy. If you're looking for a pleasant car buying experience where you're respected & listened to, this is NOT the place. I would highly advise saving your time & energy & go elsewhere. read more

So still not able to reach anyone, only one response from owner and then nothing at all from the manager, the sales lady, or the finance manager. I once again reached out to make sure the warranty was canceled, it's in writing so completely legit, and also to find out when I could expect registration and this to show up on my credit report. Going on three weeks now, the car still runs rough guys! Also, on top of all this nonsense, I was charged for a deq fee, lol, and anything newer than a 2015 doesn't go through deq. So good job on throwing whatever you can at people to make money. The owner seems nice enough but the ones working at the place are just terrible all the way around. Guess my attorney can handle all of the fees, warranties, and problems with this vehicle. I've politely tried over and over to reach out, and it's done no good. I wouldn't buy another car here. This place, unfortunately, shouldn't be representing a vehicle as hood as VW. Steve was great to work with! He's got the normal hardball car salesman side, but he's a softie inside. He was great to work with overall and highly recommend. I felt like he was rude at times and a little too protective of the car I ended up buying, for example, he didn't unlock the car and let me look at the inside until I explained that I was serious about buying the car, even though we drove a mile from the main dealership to look at this car on top of knowing that I drove from Seattle that morning. He also only let me take the car on an extremely short test drive around town, never taking it on the freeway. Negotiating with Steve went smoothly, and even got a little more than I was expecting on my trade in. I informed Steve that I wouldn't be financing and so my payment options would be limited to a ACH or wire transfers since I didn't yet have checks. He seemed to kind of brush that off and just start the paperwork which I thought was odd, but figured he was fine with one of those options. He also told me that he was going to have the car cleaned for me to which I asked him if he could do something about the cigarette smell. He kinda rudely brushed that off saying it would take too long to get the smell out and that I should just drive the four hours home with the windows down. I went to work with the finance manager Amanda, where she really pushed their warranty, even blatantly lying to me and saying the four years of warranty that my car comes with doesn't cover the electronics, so if the radio stopped working for example, I would have to pay for it out of pocket. I said I wasn't interested, and that's when the friendly, out going Amanda that my friend and I had gotten to know left the building. Was was left in her place was an upset child who couldn't even bare to make eye contact: you could cut the tension with a knife. While signing the rest of the paper work, she kept conversation to the minimum, only telling me where to sign or intital, and what this paperwork was for. With her back turned to me, told me that we were done and I could go back to Steve. I was in disbelief at the utter lack of professionalism that Amanda was showing to me. When I went back to Steve, I explained that I had only paid the small amount from my credit card and that Amanda said he would be taking care of the rest of the payment, which I thought was very odd since she was the finance manager. I unfortunately had to go back to her where I went out of my way to be friendly and talkative. I wanted to "kill her with kindness" if you will, but that interaction continued to be the same, doing the bare minimum without making any eye contact. In the 9 experiences I've had buying car for myself or for someone else, Amanda was the absolute worst employee I've ever dealt with. My friend and I couldn't stop talking about how uncomfortable she made us feel over a stupid warranty. Steve had the car pulled up and explained it wasn't cleaned since they realized that the batteries in both FOBs were dead and they spend the whole time trying to replace the batteries *insert eye roll* but that he knew I had a long drive home and made sure the gas tank was full. By the time my temp plates expired, I hadn't received the real ones in the mail yet, so I called Amanda where she made excuses telling me that because they don't have a title clerk, the responsibility fell on her shoulders and that my paperwork was sent to the DMV that morning, a full 20 days after I purchased my car. Unacceptable. She told me that I shouldn't worry about getting pulled over for having expired plates, but that if I was worried I could buy (at my own expense) an extension permit from the DMV for around $350... I emailed Steve since I never want to talk to Amanda ever again, and he took care of everything, sending me another temp license and getting my real plates mailed to me overnight as soon as they got them. Again Steve was great, it's really my experience with Amanda that made me write this review. A couple other things to note, it took me over a month after multiple cleaners, sprays and carpet cleanings to get rid of most of the smoke smell, but I can still smell it. I think VW should have offered to pay for a detail since it wasn't listed anywhere that this was a smokers car. On top of this I have an issue with my camera system that I noticed the day after I brought my car home that my local VW is unable to replicate, therefore refusing any kind of fix. Wish this was fixed before I bought it. The 2 Stars is mostly because of Amanda, but also just the few things that Steve did that rubbed me the wrong way. Don't make your customers feel like they're criminals stealing a car or wasting your time when they just want a test drive. And don't just brush off the potent cigarette smell that a car has, thankfully I'm not allergic to cigarette smell, but that could have been a big issue for someone like my sister. If I could give negative stars I would. Following up on a review I did a few weeks ago...this is what my ignorance and trust of this dealership cost me so far. 1400.00 at Audi service in Portland for a leaky transmission gasket and faulty starter ignition. Home less than one week and now car won't start again. With diagnostic and service that's almost 2000.00 in the last week for less than owning the car 3 months. Please, please please do your due diligence and go elsewhere. Did I mention that I have a voicemail from a sales manager "Andy" that said they would've helped me fix the problem had I not "shot myself in the foot" by leaving a negative review.
