Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with movers. Neil was argumentative, short tempered and he made some very disturbing racist remarks. He thought I couldn't hear him but the things he was saying were very offensive. The one shinning star was Jay he did his best to calm the situation down. Neil was able to accommodate a last minute move, and I'm so thankful! Both Neil and Scott were on time, friendly, and moved things swiftly and carefully - getting me from Oakland to SF in under 3 hours time [studio's worth of furniture + boxes]. I've moved many times in the past 10 years, and frankly only used movers a handful of times because the cost and management often seems to outweigh the time and effort saved - leaving me feeling dissatisfied. WATCH OUT Neil is hostile and aggressive. After he broke my boyfriend's desk on a move, he yelled at, swore at, and insulted us. We were shocked/frightened by his behavior, and the fact that Neil did not offer a reimbursement (even though he had told us on the phone before the move that a basic insurance policy is included in the price of the move). After writing an (understandably) negative review, Neil has private messaged me, and posted over a dozen comments (the latest of which will show below). I have copied and saved as many of his comments as I could "catch" before he deleted them. I would love to post them all here, but Yelp has a word limit. However, this comment was something of a "gem": "Anyone can write anything on yelp, so it really doesn't matter what you say, why would anyone believe your crap , its obvious to everyone regardless what happened on your move , that your a very very sick woman, mentally ill.Bottom line - We broke a desk,. They didn't pay for insurance , i would have gotten it repaired if they didn't act like this. hence her review. Its got "psycho" written all over it. Anyone who reads your whole review and believes it is certainly as sad as you. and i would prefer that they don't call me. Thank god you didn't have a gun that day, or I'd be dead. Now get over it, we have moved on, and so should you." -Neil C. So guys, you heard him! If you accidentally read my whole review, and find yourself believing it, make sure you do not call Neil. I would give 0 stars if I could. This company is absolutely ridiculous and horribly run by Neil. I have nothing against the other two guys that showed up to the move, the only problem was Neil, who was already irritated and annoyed right from the moment they arrived at our house. To begin with, my boyfriend called and scheduled a move on a Sunday. About 30 minutes passed the scheduled time, Neil called, and said they were downstairs as I was still trying to move the boxes away from the entrance so they could get in easier. I went down there a few minutes after Neil had called and there was nobody, a big truck was parked right in front of my building but nobody was inside, so I knew they had to be somewhere. I called them, nobody picked up the phone. Couple minutes later, I called again and Neil picked up this time. He said they got here and nobody was here, so they went to get lunch. ( Uh...it's fine if you need to get food, but shouldn't he let us know first. That was totally unprofessional and rude! ) 20 minutes later, Neil called again and asked what unit we were in but he said he didn't want to speak with me because my boyfriend was the one who made the appointment, so he was the only one he would talk to. He also told my boyfriend I was very rude on the phone...just answering the phone is apparently rude in Neil's book. ( I don't understand why it matters! Is that because I'm Asian or a woman? ) Then I told him my boyfriend was in the bathroom, and he just hung up the phone. ( Wow! Really? ) My boyfriend called him back, didn't answer right away, after a few text messages, finally called back and said they were downstairs. When they got up to our place which is on the third floor of a house, they appeared tiring and surprised they had to get up three flights of stairs. ( Even though we had already told Neil we lived on the third floor of our house when we made the appointment, that there were three flights of stairs and it was very narrow. They should be prepared before they arrive. ) They started moving the boxes downstairs, finally. The other two guys that came with Neil were pretty efficient and going up and down the stairs pretty quickly, and Neil was the only one complaining as he was moving the boxes. Then came the moment when Neil just got completely pissed off, as he found out there were two boxes we packed too many books in. ( We apologized and told them they didn't have to worry about that and we would take those ourselves even though I knew they could move it using a dolly, or they could move it with two people together. ) In addition, Neil told my boyfriend, and I quote, "If a guy asked you to move these boxes, wouldn't you tell him to go f**k himself?" Unbelievable!!! We told him he didn't have to move any boxes he found heavy, yet he still threw that comment in there!! About half way through, one of the guys (not Neil) came back and simply said to us they couldn't finish the move today because they were just way too exhausted from the last move and they couldn't do it anymore but he would try to find another moving company to move us the next day . Then they just left all the stuff they had moved in the hallway, blocking one of the doors of my neighbor's unit. As they were leaving, my landlady came out, realizing they were leaving without finishing the move, and asked Neil what the deal was. At that point, Neil got even more agitated and started calling her names. She said she was going to give them a bad review on yelp, and Neil just said go ahead and that he didn't care. Neil was a terrible and unprofessional owner. DON'T hire them if u want your move to be stress-free or most importantly, complete. BEWARE!! read more

I talked to Neil on the phone and we agreed to do a move today. He asked me to send him a text with the address, date and time which I did promptly. He responded to my text with a "Thanks we talk soon" (yes, I have evidence). Does he show up today, no. How does he respond to my frantic phone call - by accusing me of being rude to him, treating him like a "slave" and by calling me a liar and saying he never got the text nor responded. All in all, stay very far away from this company and Neil. Unprofessional, rude, angry...I have more choice words but I need to now find another moving company to move me before Saturday. read more

We're very satisfied! Communication was great. Most movers I requested quotes from just sent me boilerplate and ignored the specific questions I was asking them, but Neil was friendly, helpful, and quick to reply. We ended up with a lot more boxes than I thought we were going to have, but the movers didn't complain; they worked quickly and carefully and charged us a fair hourly rate. They wore their masks most but not all of the time, which from what I've gathered is better than most movers (I know doing hard physical work with a mask is not easy!). We've now unpacked almost everything, and haven't found a scratch on anything, so I'm quite happy! read more

I've moved *a ridiculous number of times* over the past few years, and love that I know I can give Neil a holler and trust him to show up on time, move everything quickly and safely, give me a killer rate and be in and out in a matter of hours. My most recent experience was no different. Neil called me roughly 2 hours before he was due to show up to let me know that their previous move had ended early and they could be there in about 30 minutes if I wanted (um, yes please). I will start with saying they are very reasonably priced . The communication and confirmation of move date etc. by text from Neil was reassuring as well. They worked very hard at moving me to my new place. It was a very stressful day as my spouse and I were parting ways unfortunately . She was trying to work with Neil to move some furniture after my work was completed. That did not go well as they were both not communicating very well. Neil decided not to do the work for her. I think that he could work on being a little more compassionate under handling people under these type of conditions...That should come with age. His helper seemed to understand the situation and was alot more sensitive to what was happening that day. Neil and Joe were great. I have moved four times in the past 2 years while in S.F. and my experience with them made this move the most painless thus far. I was able to get an appointment with them for the very next day. Neil and Joe even called/texted to remind me and were so personable, efficient and honest. $75 an hour with a 2 hour minimum. Extra gas fee if outside the city. They have a wardrobe box They wrap your bedding and furniture so that nothing gets scratched/damaged. I will gladly refer them to family and friends. P.S. So, our move wasn't that easy. We were combining three households from different parts of the bay area into one tiny Berkeley abode. It was raining. We had no idea where wanted the big heavy couch, or the small one for that matter. I wasn't confident that all my stuff would come anywhere close to fitting into the truck. We were quoted $420-$575 to move our small (~700 SF) house from San Francisco to Oakland. Claddagh Moving got it all done in 4 hours (the estimate was 4.5-5.0 hours) and right on budget, at $430. Other moving companies quoted us $850-$1200 dollars!!! Everything arrived in one piece and the owner and his employee were diligent and friendly. We found Neil on Yelp and we were impressed with all the good reviews and the reasonable prices. It was stressful moving after 21 years in the same apt. There were tons of boxes to move, many heavy with books and CD's. Neil and Joe arrived on time and it was all done quickly and efficiently. First, some disclosure is in order: This was not our first rodeo, my wife & I have moved over 8 times together. The moves have ranged for "mildly annoying" to "I know people in Vegas that will make you disappear & no one will miss you" to everything in between. Neil & Dominic are the best movers we have ever used, hands down. As long as we are being honest, let me admit that we are fully aware that we were not an easy move. Actually, let me be specific- we were a hot mess of a move. We had stairs at both places. We had cats that were whining at the top of their furry little lungs. And the big one: we have heavy, odd-shaped, fragile and expensive stuff that would make average movers cry. In particular, we have a 7 foot armoire withh 200 year old doors from a Jamaican rum estate that requires a careful combination of a gentle hand and brute force. Highlights: - They showed up early. Seriously, this is a big deal. - They had a great sense of humor. - They never complained. - We never once felt uncomfortable around them and completely trusted them with our stuff. - Very, very good price considering how hard these guys work. - They confirmed the move time & date via text message & phone days prior to the move. If you are looking for a better mover in the San Francisco area, good luck. You'll never find them. They rock the Kasbah. Don't walk... run to the phone and call these guys. Great value. Prices are cheaper than other moving companies. I got a 3 man crew and they worked their asses off. I left a 3rd floor (really 4th with the elevated entry) Edwardian apartment in SF for a house in Oakland. They showed up on time, Neil came through after work hours to eyeball the job and make a rough estimate. The quote was hundreds of dollars cheaper than other moving cos. He also waived the fuel charge. The day was pretty chaotic they got a flat tire on the way to the bridge and one of the crew abruptly left but Neil and Nino kept their cool and got the job done despite the circumstances. Guys were friendly. Aside from charging more and for fuel, most movers also charge for wardrobe boxes that you only use one. Claddagh lent us several for no charge. They were very accommodating when my partner or I changed our minds on placement of some of the furniture. Neil underestimated the hours for the job (and we had a few additional items) but he was very upfront about it took responsibility and we split the difference between the actual time estimate. Was a fair deal, especially considering the value of the price of the move. read more

I'm not sure what else one could possibly want from movers. Neil is a good guy -- normal, smart, cool, responsible. I booked a week ahead with him, right before Christmas and moving right afterward. It was no problem; he called to confirm Christmas weekend. He showed up with his partner that Monday morning at the exact time we'd agreed to. They were friendly, efficient, and careful -- careful with my beautiful, expensive couch (my one splurge); careful with my flat screen; careful with my mattress; careful and so sweet with my son who wanted to help them. They were just as swift on the other end, going above and beyond to make sure things were in the right room/place. And -- and! -- they're less expensive than pretty much everyone else. I don't mean to sound hyperbolic but it is so refreshing to deal with human beings -- kind, competent, caring, careful, fair. Don't hesitate to use them. read more

I couldn't ask for better movers. Both Neil & Joe were personable, helpful and punctual. This was the first time I've ever used movers and even though I under-estimated the amount of manpower I needed, Neil was courteous enough to keep my appointment and continue the job. Claddagh Moving offers very resonable rates at $75/hr. They offer additional assistance such as wrapping glass items to prevent damage and wardrobe boxes if needed. For jobs outside of SF, gas and travel charges apply, but the charges are also reasonable. I am so happy that their professionalism made my move calm and stress-free. I actually gave them quite a challenge by having 3 different drop-off points for my things...but they did everything without complaining and always had a cheery disposition. I would highly recommend Claddagh Moving because they make the moving process quick and painless. read more

Never hired movers before, but had to move from Stanford to Oakland and while I don't have much stuff, I don't drive. Neil and Joe (I think, sorry not good with names) were great in that they booked me when I wanted them - only a day or two ahead of time too! - confirmed the appointment in reassuring ways, showed up right on time with all necessary equipment, and moved me lickity-split! They also let me ride with in the van, which given the distance (and my lack of a car) was a lifesaver. Neil had given me a straight quote up front (for all the drive time involved) of $300, and that's what it cost me, no surprises, and seemed pretty reasonable given the other quotes I'd gotten. Only negative was that I did have one thing break. It was a fragile thing, so if it had just broken in the course of things, I wouldn't fault them at all. But I had carefully packaged it in its own box, wrote on it multiple times in big letters "Fragile! Place Nothing On Top of This!" with an arrow pointing the right way up. I had it set to the side and explained that these were the boxes to be careful with, but all of that got ignored. It was put on its side with things on top of it and, surprise surprise, it broke, hence docking them a star. Neil and Robert were great! They have kind of a dry humor that W and I really enjoyed; it seemed like we all became fast friends. W and I had packed up most of our things prior to Neil and Robert's prompt 8am arrival, and finished up the last few things while they carried the big stuff from our third floor apt to the truck! We also helped move the smaller items while they did the big items; the collective teamwork allowed the move to finish in just 4 hours! Our new pad has a narrow stair case in the back, so W and I were very thankful that these two guys could help carry our mattress up...we ended up having to lug it over the weird little roof over the staircase. It seems Neil had a great sense of physics and he made it happen fast. It made it up, and we were happy! The only thing I do suggest for everyone moving is to remember to take a last look before leaving! W and I were too sucked up in the chaos, and it wasn't until the evening that we realized our bed frame and lamp had been left behind; it was still in our old apartment lobby and thankfully it fit in our car, so we didn't call Neil back to pick it up (but I'm sure he would've helped out if we had!) read more

We moved from SF to Berkeley back in October. Our friends had moved from SF to Richmond Hills a month prior, and recommended Neil and his team. What was great: - Neil is great to work with. Straightforward, honest, clear and very professional. Came to give a quote, showed up on time, and always confirmed appointments - including reminders to us. - His team (three other men) were super nice and fun. You end up hanging out with your movers all day--so it was really a plus to like the people moving your stuff. - Neil is on his game. Instructs crew to wrap items correctly, has a plan. - THEY WORKED HARD. We had a hellacious third floor flat on a huge hill (Masonic) in SF. Sweat poured off of them and they never gave us any trouble - and we were those horrible people still packing boxes in one room. - their rates are great Not the smoothest: - the truck was not big enough for our stuff. despite a walkthrough, we simply had more than could fit (and it was hard to tell)- we had to do two extra trips ourselves. this made us sad. - we didn't know we were supposed to provide tape. (Neil and crew ran out) I had to send husband out to get some - a couple things, though minor, got dinged. though they flipped the tape to secure a cabinet, some of the tape was on the finish and it ripped off. They didn't flip the tape and my metal file cabinet now misses paint chips. - they lost a couch leg - thought they thew it in a box - and we tore our boxes apart. A couple weeks later it turned out he had found it but hadn't told me. THEY DELIVERED THE COUCH LEG to Berkeley, which was super nice. Overall, we feel we got what we paid for, which was to save some money, and they worked really hard. It was not a five-star experience because of the few things. But I think had we been super on it ourselves, that would not have happened. I tipped them well. So hire them. read more

I found Claddagh on craigslist and picked them primarily because their rates were low and, honestly, I was looking to do a move on the cheap. But they were extremely professional, fast, and nice guys to boot. They were clear about their rate structure (let me know ahead of time about their rates for the drive to the East Bay), called to confirm the move with me even though I met them a few days before my move (they moved my ex out of my apartment too) and moved my furniture and boxes faster and more efficiently than I had any remote right to hope was possible. They were not daunted by anything - not the stairs, not the insane number of book boxes, not my grandmother's fragile antique side table, not even the crazy move-my-ex-two-days-before-you-move-me situation. I moved out of a three story apartment into a home with stairs leading to the house as well as inside. I was able to contact the owner easily and get an accurate estimate of the costs. The movers arrived earlier than anticipated (with a phone call asking if they could) and did a great job given all of the constraints of the move. They worked diligently and were careful with my furniture pieces. They were easy to communicate with on where I wanted things and made me feel like my voice was heard.
