I came to look at dresses after my mom found Claire Pettibone online. She loved the floral theme of many of her gowns. The shop is gorgeous and has a very whimsical and almost Victorian feel, it's so cool. The dresses are on the pricier side, but we knew that going in. They are crafted very well and are high in quality. The prices range pretty greatly with some in the couple ish thousand range to the 20,000 range, but the racks are organized by price which I appreciated. The designer was there to guide us through the appointment and she was so incredibly kind and humble. At the end of the appointment, she encouraged me to find the dress that felt right for me and not worry about the opinions of others. We did book the appointment to specifically try on the wisteria dress, but they sent a size that was too small for me. I tried it on and had to keep it bunched up because it couldn't fit over my hips. That was a huge disappointment, especially since that dress was the main reason we booked the appointment. I've been a fan of Claire Pettibone for over 20 years. I remember seeing her gowns in LA magazine and thinking, "one day!" This was my second Claire Pettibone gown. The first one, I think, was bought a bit too soon - I was more excited about the gown than the groom, lol! When I made my appointment, I had the Lunaria gown in mind. Claire and her staff were kind, enthusiastic, and very flexible with my timeline. Wearing one of Claire's gowns makes you feel like the most special, sexy, and unique bride in the world. She has a keen eye for detail, especially in the beading, lace, and silk elements of her gowns. Highly recommend Claire and her team. read more

I was really excited for my appointment, but unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. Claire wasn't very helpful or knowledgeable during the appointment and had a surprisingly dismissive attitude. She didn't offer much assistance with trying on dresses; barely clipped anything and repeatedly assured me that things would "fit after alterations," which made it hard to get a sense of how the gowns would actually look on me. Many of the samples were in very small, model sizes, and she even suggested I not try certain dresses on, just to "hold them up" over my clothes instead. When I asked about a newer gown I'd seen online, she said it wasn't in stock, but I later realized it was there in a size 00 and simply not being offered to try. For such a high price point, I expected a much more professional and welcoming experience. Sadly, this visit didn't live up to the brand's beautiful branding/aesthetic. read more

When we left Claire's shop on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles with my daughter's stunning wedding gown, I was beaming :) because my daughter was completely satisfied and excited with the choice of her exquisite wedding gown. Note that I wrote "Claire" because that is how comfortable she made my daughter and me feel in her shop. Maybe mothers of brides aren't supposed to chime in, but this was too special to not post. Getting my dress from Claire Pettibone was one of my favorite parts of getting married, and this is coming from someone who originally didn't want to plan a wedding and was going to elope at city hall! This dress convinced me to have an actual ceremony with family and friends because of how gorgeous and special I felt in it. (Not that there's anything wrong with getting married at city hall, I just say this to showcase what a great experience it was for me.) First of all, the location is stunning. It's in a literal castle. The moment you step inside, you're instantly immersed in the romance and beauty of the dresses. I made an appt bc I had seen one of Claire's dresses online and became obsessed with it. I tried it on and even though it was gorgeous, it felt like the dress was wearing me rather than the other way around. That was hard to accept, because my heart had been set on it, but even I knew it wasn't quite right. After trying on a few others, Claire encouraged me to try a different dress in her collection- one I never would have chosen for myself because of how form fitting it was. The second I put it on, I knew it was the dress. The fit was magical and I felt incredible in it. That's a testament to how good Claire is at what she does. She knew what would work best for me even before I did! There was just one problem. The dress was white, and I was adamant about not wearing an all white wedding dress. Claire then suggested doing custom colors on the dress's stunning floral embroidery. It sounded amazing, but I was nervous about what it would cost. Claire said she wouldn't charge me extra for it. My friend and I couldn't believe it. Again, this showcases how much Claire loves what she does. A lot of designers or salespeople would try to upsell you because they know they can, but she was genuinely interested in creating something beautiful based on what I wanted. I had to trust her that it would work out, since the dress would be custom and there was no example of it I could see beforehand, but I decided to go for it. After trying on her gowns I knew the quality was impeccable and the result could only be beautiful. The first fitting proved that. I had heard nightmare stories from friends about how their first fitting made them doubt their decision, but the dress fit wonderfully and there weren't a ton of adjustments to be made. And the custom color was even more stunning than I could have imagined. Oh, and Claire and her team made it all happen within the span of a few months, which speaks to their level of professionalism and expertise. If you've ever planned a wedding you know how anxiety inducing and overwhelming it is. But every time I stepped into this place I felt completely at ease. Claire is so kind and her energy is really calming. She truly cares about her brides and really listens to them. She made the entire process such a joy for me. I couldn't have found a more unique, gorgeous dress that truly represented me. She even made my dress part of her permanent collection afterwards and I felt so honored to be the first to wear it! The little girl in me who used to look through her older sister's bridal magazines and dream about wearing the perfect dress one day felt so seen. Are her gowns expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? One thousand percent. On my wedding day, I walked through my hotel to my first look and women were literally gasping. One actually cried. I have never felt more beautiful. Also considering how fair Claire is with alterations and the fact that she didn't charge me for the custom color, you could easily pay the same price elsewhere for far less. Last thing I have to say is how well made these dresses and accessories are. I wore one of her stunning veils as well, and during my photos in the desert, the wind blew it onto a cactus where it was impaled on the needles, and somehow it still did not rip! My mom and I were stunned. It was so windy the dress could have easily been torn, but it held up. Later, when I got my dress cleaned, the business owner who worked in textiles for 20 years was so impressed that the fabric was handmade silk, not a cheap blend like most dresses today. He said they don't make dresses like this anymore and called it a work of art. He was right. I thought the experience was just ok. Being a bit older, and my first wedding, I wasn't into all the bells and whistles of a fancy wedding. I flew from SF to the shop; alone. The lady asked me if I was waiting on anyone; uh no I came alone. I guess this isn't normal but whatever. I had them pull two dresses, a formal dress that I liked and the party dress. My limit was $5000.00 but it would have to be perfect and a dress that I could wear again. The expensive one was too scratchy for me; so I tried this dress on and purchased it 'off the rack'. I was happy that it didn't need to be altered (IMO), and I just wanted to leave. I guess it could fit a bit better; but my attitude was, "I'm 57 and it is just a beach wedding, it doesn't have to be perfect." The dress looks horrific and does not look anything like the sample wedding dress that I tried on. I went in today for a gown approval and Wendy was so rude and not very educated about these dresses. I told her that was not the dress that I ordered that it isn't supposed to have a huge visible seam in the middle of the dress. I paid $12,000 for this dress and it looks sooooo cheap. I was super upset and asked to speak to the designer and she will not let me speak to her. I refused to take this dress home. Wendy tried making me feel crazy and picky so I am posting a picture of what the dress was supposed to look like and what it actually looks like so you be the judge!!!!!!!!!!! From the first time I saw a Claire Pettibone dress at a friend's wedding, I knew that was what I wanted for my own. From the initial email to them to go to the Flagship salon, I knew it was a special place. My Mom, Dad, and I came in for the fitting and tried on many dresses until we found "the one" with Wendy. She was helpful finding dresses that stuck within the budget we wanted and finding new ones based off what I liked and didn't like from what we tried on. Once I put on the Kristene dress it was perfect. The dress is so well made, incredibly lightweight, gorgeous color, and moves so well as you walk and dance. Once she put the matching veil on my Dad stood up and said "that's it we are buying it!" We ordered it in custom measurements and picked it up a few months later. Hardly any alterations were needed except hemming to my shoe height, it fit like a glove and was "me". The day of the wedding I got endless compliments on the dress and how unique and perfect it looked on me. Thank you to Claire Pettibone and Wendy for making the experience so easy and wonderful. I have always wanted a Claire Pettibone Wedding dress. Even before I knew I was going to be engaged. When I day dreamed about finding the right one and having a wedding, I pictured myself in a gorgeous art deco/victorian dress that Claire Pettibone masterfully creates. Rewind to July of 2018, I had made an appointment for the 21st with my mom, sisters, and friends. I received an alert that Claire Pettibone was having a sample sale the weekend before! I asked my mom if she was available to come a week early to check out the samples that the castle had to offer. I am so glad I got an appointment, and just in time too! My mom and I arrived and were let in (you need to have an appointment and be buzzed in) we were greeted by 2 lovely girls, I unfortunately cant remember the girl who checked us in, but she was sweet. I was then greeted by Lynn, who assisted me with my fitting session. Lynn was very sweet, but I can tell that the sample sale was a bit hectic. You are only allowed about 4 dresses, and only 45 minutes. I unfortunately, felt rushed, which was a shame because wedding dress shopping is supposed to be about feeling good and finding the one. Lynn was accommodating, even though we were in a time crunch. All of the dresses are so beautiful and intricate. Not all of them fit right, some didn't flatter me at all, but the second to last dress I tried on was the one. The intricate details of the lace and bodice, the pattern, was all beautiful, and fit me and my venue perfectly! My mom cried of course, I had too much coffee and had the jitters to feel too emotional. But it was a perfect dress, and one I wasn't even expecting trying on! Let me tell you, I am so glad I came to this sample sale. Being on a strict budget for a wedding is a feat in itself, and the dress is supposed to be something to splurge on. The dress was originally $2500, but with it being on sale, we purchased it for over 50% off! I was in awe! Now we have money for alterations and other wedding preparations!! Fast forward to our appointment on July 21st, which I kept, because most dresses from her current line weren't at the sample sale, and I figured with how much I saved on my dress, I could possibly have a dress change within my budget! Lynn greeted us, she was happy to see us, and guess what.. Claire Pettibone herself was there! It was such a pleasure to meet the designer behind all of these fairytale dresses. We tried on a couple of her current season styles, they were all absolutely gorgeous, I fell in love with another dress, but unfortunately it was just a bit over my budget. But it looked and felt wonderful. Who knows, maybe I will save a bit more and come back for it. Trying on dresses here is like a fairy tale, its in a castle and you're surrounded by plush and luxurious fabrics and furniture. This store is such a gem and all the ladies & gentlemen who work here are very accommodating. Im glad its not located in over rated Beverly Hills. After we left the Castle, we went to our other appointment at BHLDN.. omg for it being in Beverly Hills, the quality was a joke... but thats a yelp review in itself. Very elegant yet boho designs. All the dresses in the boutique are automatically by the designer. So beautiful with just the most gorgeous and intricate designs and veils to match. The most beautiful laces and silks, along with the perfect accessories to pair with the designs. We were helped by the store manager. She showed us various designs and fits. She was so sweet and did her job well! Kept my sister happy. Metered parking is available outside the boutique. We didn't have an appointment but were welcomed walk-ins so that was sweet. I'm knocking a star off after hearing of others' alteration experiences. I recommend not filling out the initial card they give you once you arrive for the introductory appointment. Specifically how much you're willing to spend. Because there are no clear descriptions of alteration costs and you will get sidelined with ridiculous add-ons, like a hem, which is not included! Looking back at wedding photos I can very clearly see the imperfections of my dress. The quality of workmanship leaves a lot to be desired, especially at that price point. Aside from dealing with a narcissist, it's just bad business practices to spring on additional fees and uncharge so much. I wish I had gone with the other dress I was contemplating. The price was all laid out with no hidden fees and the quality of the lace was far more intricate and aesthetically appealing. A lot of the lace Claire uses looks cheap, not as refined. Overall it would've been nice to save about $1700, lots of time and dealing with bad energy that came with Claire. Weddings are stressful events, this part should be easier. read more

Claire is the absolute best and made me feel AMAZING every time I went to her store! I was feeling very let down and burnt out from trying to find the dress...but Claire changed everything. Back in February, I went in expecting to find nothing and continue being disappointed...but I wasn't. The last dress I tried on was Chantilly...I feel in love! It was THE DRESS. I felt amazing in the dress...and even more amazing as Claire made suggested tweaks/adjustments to the dress. Claire also designed a pocket square for my hubs that was made of The Raven's fabric which allowed him a sneak peek of the dress right before we walked down the isle. I'm plus sized and I had a lot of anxieties about dress shopping, especially after a horrific experience at Monique Lhuillier. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. Rachel and I emailed ahead of time and she let me know which gowns would be available to try on and let me know that Claire would be there on the day. We fitted with one of the available gowns that was similar in style to the gown I wanted and then it was just a question of construction and fitting. I cannot say enough good things about how I was treated by Rachel and Claire. Every bride should get to feel this great. And the fabrics! The details! These are true fairytale gowns--modern, romantic, nothing like the stiff old fashioned ballgowns I was finding everywhere else. I have tried on soooooo many dresses. I wanted something unique, light, flowy, sexy, classy, fitted, and bearable for summertime in Hawaii. Automatically, a lot of gowns and designers were nixed off my list. I discovered Claire Pettibone, and I was attracted to the intricate details of the back of her gowns. Absolutely stunning and gorgeous. However, to have such intricate design, her dresses often lack structure. That structure is necessary in order to hold everything in if you're not skinny or rail thin or tall. I absolutely fell in love with the backs of the gown, but not the front! I couldn't justify paying that much for a gown that I wasn't completely in love with. I got a little turned off when they told me that I would have to pay for custom length since I was short (I'm 5'4" - I didn't think I was that short?). Tack on an additional $650-700 for custom length if you're "short". Plus, alterations which is probably another $650! Ridic! When you add all that up, I could be getting a much higher end gown from other more well-known designers. Maybe I would have felt different if the price structure was less. The pricing was up there with Vera Wang, Monique, Ines di Santo, Etc... Claire's gowns are absolutely gorgeous. They are unique and artistic which is why I appreciate her work. During my visit, I felt a little rushed. It could be because I was the last appointment and they just wanted to go home. They did let me try on a lot of their gowns, which I appreciated. Everything was pretty. I also liked how it was an intimate setting. I didn't end up getting my dress here. This place caters to tall, rail thin women who resemble the models that you see on ads. Their dresses look good on those body types. Claire's dresses mimic the feel of vintage lingerie. Her gowns are perfect for outdoor, rustic, beach or garden weddings! all of her gowns are very light, flowy, and thin. There really is no room for forgiveness. No spanx allowed! read more

This review is about the experience I had shopping for bridal gowns at the Claire Pettibone store. I knew of the store because I used to drive by it often, and always LOVED the gowns in the window. When I got engaged, I was excited to visit the shop. I made an appointment and went online to get an idea of which specific gowns I liked. I had several styles written down, which I brought to my appointment. I arrived with my fiance, which was apparently an issue. The manager asked "You want him here?" She asked several more times throughout the appointment. "You want him to see this dress? What if this is THE dress." Yes, I want him here, that's why I brought him. Moving past that, when I started perusing the gowns, I noticed several were missing. "Most of our gowns are at a trunk show today". Umm, okay. I had an appointment, I was there to try on gowns. Why would you have me come on a day that most of the gowns weren't there? I started trying on gowns with the meager selection they had, all the while the manager was hovering over me. A favorite moment that my fiance and I still laugh about: I had on a gown that had a tattoo-type embroidery on the back. The manager said "If this detail is too progressive for you... it can be made without it." PROGRESSIVE!! She came across as aloof and pompous throughout the appointment. Needless to say, I didn't get my gown from Claire Pettibone. It's a shame, I love the dresses, but between most of the gowns being gone and the less than friendly manager, I was done. I had been to at least 5 different bridal salons, and this was by far my worst experience. I ended up getting a Lazaro gown from Mon Amie in Orange County. Message to Claire Pettibone: Your staff is bringing down your good name. I'm giving 2 stars because I really love her aesthetic. If you want her dresses, try to buy them ANYWHERE else. read more

Bridal gown review: We were looking around the bridal shops in the area and noticed this cute place. The bridal gowns here are very unique and interesting, but if you're looking for the "WOW" factor, shop somewhere else. Like the other reviewer said, the gowns definitely have a lot of femininity and sort of that "lingerie-ish" look that is quite different from the most gowns seen in the bridal magazines. You can tell some of them have lots of details and have that handmade feel to them. Not much structure in the dresses, however. I wish I was the mastermind behind Claire Pettibone. Seriously.....her style and sense of creativity will never go out of style. I learned of her through some of my favorite wedding blogs online. When a person puts on one of her dresses, they are automatically transformed into an ethereal godess. This genius started off designing lingerie too....just the right amount of sexiness mixed with just the perfect amount of class. My last stop before heading to the airport back to NYC was a MUST at her flagship salon. Not only to stand there in awe and drool over every dress on display, but also to speak with one of the best sales associates I have ever encountered. Her name was Erica. Her presence was so warm and inviting. She knew how much space to give me to just explore the showroom. When I was finally ready to start asking questions, she answered each question so perfectly, I didn't even have much to ask beyond just feeling like I was surrounded by intense beauty. I wish I had more time to play. Maybe try on a few dresses and find out more price ranges. I guess I dont even know how to explain it and its more of the surroundings. Being in there made me feel like I could just explore all day. I felt like I was in an enchanted showroom of dresses. A great salesperson with all the right answers. If I ever get married, this is the spot, and I will recommend Claire to all my future brides too. read more

Claire Pettibone has amazing dresses. This is one of the first places i went to when i was looking for my dress. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, i couldn't justify blowing my budget on one of her dresses. She has great vintage inspired designs that are really unique and intricate. If you have the money to spend I'd highly recommend her shop. I went in and was helped by Erica. She asked my about my budget and the style i was looking for and she helped me find the few dresses she had that were in my price range. After I tried on a few dresses a woman came out and introduced herself: "Hi, I'm Claire" As in Claire Pettibone herself! I was a little starstruck. She hung around and watched me try on some of her dresses. It was nice to see a designer who still cares about the people who purchase her dresses! Also, a few weeks after my visit, Erica emailed me and told me about a sample dress they got in the store that matched the style that I was interested in. I thought it was really nice of her to go out of her way to give me a call, even though I hadn't followed up or anything with them. I didn't end up getting a dress here because the cost was just so high, and I wish her dresses were a little more affordable, but it does really seem like you'd be getting a quality garment for the cost. read more

My friend had a specific taste and style for her wedding dress. The original store that she found that had what she had in mind is all the way in Australia. Although we didn't mind a trip down under, most people who have gone through the whole wedding dress bit know that you will need more than just one visit. One of our lifesaving friends found a flagship store in LA, and voila! Parking is really messy here. The only available parking is on the street. You can get lucky though and as long as you don't mind walking, I don't think you'll have any issues. Looking from outside, the exterior even looks like it has it's own story. When I first walked in and took a good look at the place and WOW. This place is all kinds of beautiful. I was so taken by the place that it got me all mesmerized. Erica greeted me and offered me something to drink and their chai is so good. (Thanks Erica!) When my friends arrived, they didn't have to tell me, they were as impressed and overwhelmed with so much beauty and sophistication. After a cup of tea, 3 hours, 8 dresses and about 12 dress changes, my friend finally found the One. Erica made it so easy and so fun. She answered all the questions and made us understand and have a feel of the product. She is so nice and she made the whole experience fun and convenient for the bride. Although I'm not the one buying the dress, just looking at the many beautiful and elegant dresses AND Erica's great personality, I would definitely recommend this place for future brides. Claire Pettibone offers a truly "special" selection of gowns - definitely for a "vintage," "romantic," non-traditional bride. Her designs are all about flow, lace, and special details like ribbons and velvet. Some other reviews mention "lingerie-ish," and I don't disagree. At our visit, the boutique was essentially divided into 2 sections - the front had discontinued gowns that could be purchased for a discount "off the rack" and the back area was reserved for newer gowns that would have to be ordered at least 4-6 months in advance (prices range from $1200-10500!). We found promising dresses in both sections, but we were disappointed to realize that one of our favorite "off the rack" pieces had holes all over the lace... (and since it was discontinued, no way of finding another, boo). Our consultant Erica was very helpful and nice, but she was the only one in the store on a Saturday afternoon. Thus, as expected, we did not always have her undivided attention (not that she didn't try her very best). But when your bride is trying to get in and out of a very delicate gown - one that she's considering spending a couple grand on - we would like a little help here... (probably part of the reason why there were holes in the before mentioned gown... what a shame). All in all, a pleasant experience at a truly one-of-a-kind salon. My (future) sister is very excited about several of the gowns she tried on, and will likely be back with reinforcements (aka mom). To be completely honest, I wouldn't recommend this boutique for everyone. Beautiful, whimsical, romantic and vintage. That pretty much sums up all of Claire Pettibone's designs. I've been in love with her work years before I even got engaged. Sadly, I went with another dress because it was too much out of my budget to purchase. I am also having a night time wedding, and the intricate details of her work are best appreciated in a daytime ceremony. Customer service here is top notch. I visited the salon twice, and was helped by Erica both times. She is really lovely and really tries to work within your budget and style. I had to have tried on just about every dress in the store and she patiently helped me with each one. I brought my fiancé for my second appointment and Erica was completely cool about it. Erica even took the time to write me a follow up email asking about my progress in finding a dress. Erica if your boss reads these reviews, you need a raise! I cannot begin to describe how insanely beautiful the detailing is on all the dresses. From the antique vintage lace, embroidery, beading, fabric, and the BACKS. Oh my gosh, the BACKS of the dresses are swoon worthy. A helpful tip, you can only take pictures of your top 3, so don't go snapping away at the first dress! I'm writing this post and still a little sad I didn't get one of her dresses. If you have the budget to spend, I would definitely get your dress here if you have a vintage and romantic style. I had SUCH a lovely experience at Claire Pettibone! Rachel was my stylist. She was so warm and knowledgable about all of the dresses, my entourage and I just had such a fun time! This is such a beautiful bridal shop with nice decor, friendly staff, and of course, uniquely gorgeous dresses. Before coming here, I had tried on many different dresses from different shops all around San Diego and Los Angeles, but hadn't fully decided on one. I finally made the trip out to this shop with my friends. The staff was great, friendly, and offered us water and champagne during my appointment. *Yes, appointments should be made before wandering in, just call. Claire Pettibone was there so it made my experience that much more special - she's so sweet and kind! After trying on a few dresses, I decided that the Willow dress from her earlier collection was the one. Funny enough, I had actually pinned this dress on Pinterest two years ago! Since I had gone during a trunk show, there were discounts to be had saving me some $$$. This was all done about 8 months prior to my wedding so there would be ample time to make the dress, hem it, alter it, and any other changes. When I went back to pick up the dress months and months later, it really was a dream come true. It was everything I could ever want. I did have to find a place to hem it and put bust cups in back in San Diego. They don't have in-house services like hemming, but any alteration spot that specializes in wedding gowns will do. This little tidbit didn't bother me too much, though some people may find that inconvenient. Overall, I highly recommend this spot to brides who are willing to pay a bit more for unique boho-inspired wedding dresses. It moved really beautifully the day of, and I got compliments from many of the guests. One last thing, when you do decide to go forward and make that purchase, call your credit company first. My credit card declined because of the unusually high amount and I had to call the credit card company at the shop - embarrassing. According to the staff, this happens quite often, heh. I got married 2 years ago and about once a month (maybe more haha), I stare at my beautiful wedding dresses from Claire Pettibone. The entire experience was truly magical. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful memories. I had many requests and changes along the way (right up until the very day before I had to fly out for the wedding!) and she was absolutely accommodating and supportive of it all. I also had the pleasure of meeting the team - everyone is so friendly and passionate. Can't gush enough over everything Claire does. The bonus is of course the stunning studio that's pretty much in a little castle with gorgeous windows and architectural details - I never dreamt of a "fairytale" wedding but geez, when you walk in there, you can't help but feel like you're in one! It sweeps you off your feet and now I can't imagine a more perfect place in which I'd want to share that experience. Having my bridesmaids and mums there was extra special. I have been to several other bridal shops in the past and none come even close to the care and quality at Claire's. You're not just treated like another appointment. She actually asks and listens to what you're looking for but will also encourage you to try things you may not have considered (and hey, if it doesn't work, it's still fun :) ). She's so freaking talented and most importantly, kind! Wow, didn't expect to write such a long review but honestly, I could go on.
