I had just moved to San Diego and read great reviews for a shop down the street but when I go there they were out of space so I drove home and saw Clairemont on the corner and stopped in. They aren't very friendly like people have said but I'm more concerned with getting my bike tire replaced than pleasantries. I have loved my past cycle shops even when the guys were gruff. It's about the work first and foremost. Cut to a year later and I have found a great shop recommended by co-worker and I ask them why my rear tire only lasted 800 miles of very light commuting? It had metal bands showing! Turns out It was the wrong tire for my bike and was designed for smaller lighter bikes not my bigger touring bike. The load index matters more than you think! I think they sold me what they had on their shelf. I suppose its on me to know my load index but I can now say my new shop would make sure I got the correct tire because they are purist they would even go so far to tell me no If I showed up with wrong tire because they care most about doing quality work. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure they covered their butt's when they sold it to me saying something like "This is a sport tire and wont last as long", NO this tire is not rated for my bike and is a very bad idea. Prices were fair and work was done in reasonable time. So not a bad shop, but I want something more. And to reviews that say they have a great inventory, very suspicious those are real. They have NO inventory at all I remember like 10 tires on the wall, that should have been a warning. read more

Terrible shop. The service we received was so bad that we just walked away. I called in advance to ask if they could take my bike for diagnostic work. They said yes and to bring it in so I did. When I got there they said they didn't have room and asked if I saw how many bikes they had like it was my fault they have a lot of jobs. I told him that some one had just told me to come down because they had room and he denied, saying I got the wrong number even though they answered saying "Clairemont Cycle Supply". Not a friendly store owner/manager. Went in to compare prices for a rear tire replacement and inquired why such a huge mark up on tires to which he responded ," I don't know." I explained that the $94 price range on the Shinko 705 was $25 more than Cycle Gear and Fun Bike Centers price of $69 to which he responded," now you know where to go." What I like about CCS is the vast motorcycle knowledge and receiving my orders in a very timely manner. I saved $30 dollars on my harley clutch cable and received it next day. I've been going to Clairemont Cycle Supply for the past few months and my experience with Jamie today has ended me spending another dollar at the shop. Mr Nolan who helps on repairs when he is there is very knowledgeable and this post is on no reflection on him. Jamie showed me to today that my requested return on a UNI filter he ordered by his recommendation a couple months back, ended up being a horrible fit on my 2017 KTM enduro R from other owners of KTM 2017 690-R owners who had bought the same filter. So I asked him to give me a credit to order something better. The filter was New and still in the package. His response was that had I brought the filter back within 30 days he could of done something about it. And UNI was not going to bend over per my dislike of the product. Which in itself was rude and disrespectful. Over the last couple months I had him go thru my CR 250 at the tune of 1400.00 with no debate over price. I had him rebuild the carb on my CRF 450 and after one ride bike died due to carburetor. Took bike back and Jamie blamed bad gas. Truth be told Mr Nolan said it was a bad needle in the carb. I didn't raise a fuss and again paid another 250.00 I had scheduled my KTM 690 to install tires and install Scott's stabilizer, and was going to bring my Honda generator for a tune up, but after his rudeness and needing to make a dollar on a 45.00 part which he could of put on the wall to sell to someone who could use it at a discounted ( his price) he chose to show me NO consideration as a valued customer. He also told me that he doesn't care about the internet so I'm thinking I at least have an obligation to share my experience if I care about shops that treat people with respect. They literally have everything you need. I needed some brake pads for my motorcycle and they didn't have them in store. But they had them down the street at their huge warehouse. I was recommended to this shop by another motorcycle shop. I had damage front fender on the back of it, I asked him if he could trim it up past the damage and to keep it the stock shape. He said no problem and took the project. I picked it up next week and my fender was butchered, he cut strait across, didnt even cut a strait line, and left burrs of metal. I paid and left, called later to see if we could fix this situation because it's not what i asked for and he said," WELL YOUR THE ONE WITH THE PROBLEM", and hanged up. Very disappointed read more

We went in late July of this year and was surprised at how disorganized and dirty this place is. Been coming here for the small stuff for years, tires, lubes cleaners etc and it is fine. I had my valves adjusted and Jamie recommended i go ahead and rebuild the top end because it was on edge of needing it anyway.... i trusted him and got i done, 800 bucks and my first ride over a mile after i got the work done my entire engine grenaded. Took it over for him to look at and he immediately blamed it on the crank as i knew he would so i took the motor out, opened it up and the piston which was replaced was shredded into about 10 pieces. They now insist it is the rod... its just more bs so they dont have to pay for a new motor. never again, I will go to fun bike center who will at least warranty their shit or do it all myself which i have always done until this time... pissed and i have a crf 450r rolling chassis for sale... needs motor. read more

While researching online for a restoration shop for our 1970 Honda Mini-Trail / Monkey Bike we were referred to Clairemont Cycle Supply. When speaking to the gentleman about our bike he began to educate me on how to go about it even though they were sure they could not do the job at this time or not sure when in the future because they are so busy. Wow, he stood on the phone giving me tips on what he would do which made so much sense and said once I obtained all the parts we were missing on our bike to drop by and maybe, just maybe they could help us out. Doing a review because I only went there because of Yelp, find the experiences there horrible. Just browsing for air filter of an old bike. Bit hard to find, so I wasnt expecting to find what i need there. Then the rep comes up and says sure, they have what I need. They just have to order it. I said fine, then they ordered the wrong one. Brought it back and they couldnt even get the right one. I said okay, refund it, afterall you said you could order the right one in the first place. Then they said no refund for special order item even if it was their mistake... Ok, a bit bothered, but no big deal. Next visit needed a small part, $1.50. The owner didnt want to ring it up and rouded it up to $2... I understand about not wanting to ring it up and i understand about the rounding, but never seen a shop round the price UP for their convenience. Are you doing me a favor here? Typically, shops round DOWN for making their jobs easier, not up. Neither were big dollar deals, but small things reflects as well as large.. And I left there twice, both times with a bad taste in my mouth. Felt like the shop was nickle and diming their customer. Took my next purchase of 4 tires to a different shop the next week...buggy world... Glad I did... Cheaper prices and better services. I ended up buying 4 new tires at buggy world for the price of used ones at Clairmont Cycle. And i didnt feel like a tool being nickled and dimed. read more

A friend at work recommended this place to me after taking my motorcycle to the dealer for repairs. I thought the repairs would be covered since I payed for an extended warranty, turns out they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount of money to diagnose it and see if it's covered or not! And after hearing the possibilities of what's covered verses what's not covered it seemed like a gamble I wasn't willing to take, it was extended BS! In my opinion. So I dropped the bike off at Clairemont Cycle Supply and Jamie I think his name is came out and looked at the bike that was on my truck, he was really tall and looked at it from the side of the truck which your average Joe couldn't do, Lol and he eradicated what he know it wasn't which I thought was cool. From the referral I got and Jamie's overall reputation on Yelp I decided to leave him the bike and let him diagnose the problem and fix it. I thought for sure I fried my clutch he didn't think that was the problem and he was right it was some press plate and twisted bearings or something like that, sorry I'm not a mechanic but he showed me the problem the next day and gave me the parts in a plastic bag that he replaced. Jamie's way cool and very informative. The next day when I picked up the bike I was in disbelief at how much he charged me I thought for sure it would cost a lot more and I was definitely a happy customer and when I told people about it they didn't believe me. The bike runs great again! I recently bought another bike and took it in for an oil change, tune up and a new back tire and it runs so much better now then before it's like night and day!
