This guy is the mechanic everybody wishes they had! Honest, punctual, and accurate. I brought in my 2006 Yamaha R1 that I just bought and that wouldn't stay on or run at all. Within 1 week Josh had everything diagnosed on it (which was extensive) and a full statement ready to go. When I asked if anything could wait he answered honestly and pointed out the things that weren't that important and what was vital. After I gave him the go ahead he had the whole bike ready by the date he promised and was right on budget. He called me beforehand to get my permission to charge $10 for hardware which shocked me with how transparent he was. I found out when I picked up the bike that he threw in hundreds of $ worth of extra parts that he just had lying around. A couple weeks later the stator and rotor went out and he had that fixed and ready to go within a couple days. I will definitely be going here for all my maintenance needs. Looking for a new place to take my BMW K1200rs in for service. I was a little bit worried about this place but after talking to the owner he put me at ease! He has been working on BMW's for a while now and he knows what he is doing! I took my bike in for new brake lines and he got the job done and pointed out other things I need to fix. The back brakes were shot and I had a nail in the back tire! He quickly fixed everything and he takes pride in fixing your bike! Best shop in San Diego! And half the cost of the dealer!! I forgot to post this a lot sooner but this is probably been one of the most best experiences I've had in any kind of motorcycle servicing! They really seem like they cared and are very welcoming. I had my BMW S1000rr come in for a general maintenance and they just blew me away and how much love and care they put into my motorcycle! I didn't really see any issues when I got my motorcycle back and they gave me great input on what things to look for in the future for my motorcycle. We had an issue during the maintenance procedure but they fixed it within a short amount of time and took care of any problems. I was a little skeptical of them servicing my motorcycle especially since in southern part of San Diego there's not very much places I can go for a European motorcycle servicing shops, the nearest one would be up in Escondido and I was not about to make that ride with my motorcycle acting up. No worries I took my bike to fun bike center and they gave me a quote with no problem. You made a judgment off what you thought you knew. And you were wrong. And I was simply asking for a quote. That's it. You didn't have to do anything to the bike at all. I just needed a quote as my insurance agent explained to you on the phone, Thankfully my bike is fixed now with no thanks to you or your shop. And I doubt you have that much experience. Again your shop is trash and and doesn't know what they are doing. Close down ASAP to save people's money and time. And yes I use Yelp to write reviews wow big surprise there lol. read more

I'll give them 4 stars for now as I only went there to get my tires changed. I'll update this if I get something major done. This is a mom and pop's shop with Josh and Desiree (not sure if I spelled that right) being the owners. Their customer service is great. I started messaging Josh through Facebook and he was very prompt with his replies and answered all my questions. Pricing (tires changed - off the bike) are cheaper than dealers. I mean WAAAAY cheaper. I asked a couple of pricing for different jobs like valve adjustment and stuff and they are still pretty competitive (cheaper). So I might be bringing my bikes here if I need something done. Overall, I will come back here again and see how Josh does with different types of jobs if I don't feel like doing it myself. read more

Had and oil leak due to a bad Oring on my 20 yr old Honda Shadow that required nearly removing the entire engine. Called many shops and no one would even touch it. I called J's and Josh said bring it in we'll take a look at it. Well they took on the challenge and fixed it. I had them replace the front tire, new wheel bearings and an oil change. They also noticed my thermostat was broken. These guys are great, my bike is running like a champ again. I wish I knew about this place years ago. They removed the slack from my brake lever and didn't realize this could lock up the front brake on the freeway when the hydraulic fluid heats up and expands blocking off the master cylinder bleed port so pressure can't be released. It says how to adjust free-play in the manual with warnings about checking it periodically. End lever free-play for hydraulic brakes and clutches is usually around 4-6mm (check your manual). All the positive reviews had me hoping that I found a good shop to take over some of the maintenance on my daily rides so I can work on other projects. This and other issues has me questioning their knowledge and attention to detail. Such an amature and potiantally life threatening mistake is why I rate them 1 star. Awesome experience at J's Speed Shop today! With everyday commuting (and my lack of common sense), I wore down my rear brake pads and scratched up my rear rotor. I was able to call in for a same day appointment to get them both replaced for a really decent price. (I brought in my own parts.) I was in and out in half an hour. They noticed some wear and tear on my sprockets and showed me what to look for. Everyone was friendly at the shop, especially the cutest husky puppy named Storm! I am a recent transplant to San Diego and was in much need to find a reliable shop for (the love of my life) my Yamaha R1's maintenance. J's has turned out to be so much more than that. Not only are his prices very reasonable (I can save on much else in my life so I can afford to spend a great deal to keep her in good shape) I have had my periodic maintenance here now for more than a year and no complaints at all. In fact they go an extra mile and check stuff that i forgot to ask to have done. This is a very professional crew who really knows their stuff, inside and out. On my first visit I needed to buy a new front tire. Josh was great in guiding me through my options and we settled on an option that would suit my specific needs and riding habits, and some great value for money too. On my second visit I needed to replace my rear tire. Same story, Josh again guided me through my options, got me the right fit for my needs, and every time I lean in to a curve I can feel what he was talking about. Next was my head lights. Josh wasn't in the shop when I arrived and by mistake I asked to have my old lights changed for a HID high/low set. While I was at Starbucks getting a coffee during the wait Josh called me and actually walked me through an option that would offer me the same effect but a great deal cheaper. I responded, "Thank you so much for the heads up on my options and money savings. Which will only mean that i will come back and spend the savings on something else in the future."
