He had to do a little extra digging but found a good value for my KLR. Although I had to wait quite awhile for assistance the help I received from Olivia (Liv) with getting a helmet was outstanding. After searching online first I drove down to this location although I'm 10 min away from San Marcos location because they had a bigger selection. I had a helmet in mind but once I got to the store I saw sooooo many other options. Liv was extremely knowledgeable about fit and helmet integrity which heavily influenced my purchase. Because my size was not in stock I was provided the option to have my helmet shipped to my home at no additional charge. It arrived within a week. The store also offers a wide selection of almost every riding product for all types of riders. I understand the challenge to staff for varying customer volume but I docked 1 star due to a long wait (I wasn't even acknowledged for at least 20 min) especially after coming from San Marcos. First, and not the fault of the business, parking absolutely sucks here. It is SO bad that people park on the street. We had to stalk someone as they went to their car so that we could get a spot. I highly suggest you back in, as it will make it easier for you to nose out at the first opportunity (I've never seen so many people back into a spot as I did in this parking lot). Again, this is not the businesses fault, but it's worth mentioning. Worthy of note, we did go on a Sunday. Went in with the hubs, he needed a new cycling jacket. We were on our own for quite some time, male employees passing us as he tried on jacket after jacket and we wandered aimlessly through the store. Finally a woman passed and we caught her eye and asked her a question, she was helpful but had to head up to the register. Just as we were about to settle on something another gal came up to us and actually asked if we needed help. She was VERY helpful, pointing out that the jacket we'd chosen didn't hit the elbow properly. She asked him some questions and went and got us the perfect jacket - hit the right spot on the elbows and had the perfect overall fit (he's more of a sport cut, larger in the shoulders). I just got back into riding after 30 years. I was able to get my boots, jacket, pants, helmet and gloves from the store. All of the sales associates were knowledgeable and helpful. Don't waste your time or your money with this place. Every time I go there, they are out of stock of anything I happen to be looking for....Gloves, helmets, jackets, pants, boots....EVERY TIME. Then, when they look at their system while you wait 20-30 minutes, you find out that the online system is showing they are out of stock as well and the associate who helped me today told me that it takes 6-8 weeks to get something back in stock. This is why Amazon is destroying brick and mortar stores and will continue to do so. Why waste time with Cycle Gear stores at all when they can't even keep their own product stocked....an Arai helmet shield, which is very, very common. UPDATE. Love this store. Every visit in has been pleasant with very knowledgeable staff. Always so helpful! Love people who have the same passion for riding and informative about gear that suits your safety and your style. In continuation of my first review... have been back on two wheels but at very light riding. VERY VERY light. That freedom feel is so hard to take away even when it can take you away (permanently). I am 100% crazy to get back on and I clearly know that. This time I am rocking a full face (not half helmet), upgraded to top quality face visor (no more sun glasses), and wearing gloves at all times regardless how hot is is (no more bare hands). If you read my first review this is just a continuation! We can thank modern medicine and expensive medical procedures to look "normal" again. And we protect as best we can this second chance at life with GOOD SAFETY GEAR. My ARAI helmet had to be ordered and shipped to store. I tried on a similar style helmet to check the sizing before placing the order. Just a note, styles aren't always universal. I got the Defiant-X style which fits smaller and narrow face and heads and spent a pretty penny (~$900). I'm bummed that Arai would discontinue the Defiant-X style one. Now I have a classic style you can't get anymore. I upgraded my mirrored face shield to VAS-V Max Vision (blueish/green) for an additional (~$125). Looking outward it looks purplish and polarized. Looking in word you can't see anything. No need for sunglasses! I get a lot of looksy-lous. A lot of other riders give me kudos. Even random strangers. My helmet does pop - very me! Hi! I'm a 70 year old female and not a cycle enthusiast. But I do way to give a shout out to this place. A few months ago I was shopping at this strip mall and accidentally locked my key in my car. Pouring rain and I had Called AAA. While I was waiting, a nice gal came out of Cycle Gear and asked me to wait in the store so I didn't get more soaked from the rain. Offered me water or coffee. Told me to stay as long as I need, even sit down at a table. In this day and age, being nice is getting to be more uncommon. I truly appreciate their kindness. Had the best experience here when getting gloves. I was looking for something sturdy to start my safety riding class last month. I tried a couple alpine stars for both men and women, and surprisingly I fit better in the men's gauntlet because the women's had longer fingers. Rico helped me find and order the perfect gauntlets. If you ever come here ask for Rico, he's real nice and good at explaining stuff. I was also looking for a helmet back then and Rico helped me learn I was a medium size. I was conflicted if I wanted the sedici strada navy blue or the arai corsair x in silver, but Kevin explained how beneficial arai helmets are in the long run due to hearing protection and how that helps riders focus more on the road. I was recommended ear plugs too. I feel lucky for the help I received and because I know I got great gear, I will be back for more soon! read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Come here if you want to be ignored and waste your time. My son and I came in to purchase a couple helmets for an upcoming Motorsport event. After looking at helmets for about 15 minutes my son asked an associate for assistance. The associate then took down an couple of helmets we pointed out. I observed another customer in military uniform (Navy) and asked the associate to assist him first. (I'm a Marine Corps Vet) The associate told my son and I that he would be right back. I noticed a female customer walk in and the associate told the customer in uniform that he would get someone else to help him. The associate then started joking around with the female customer as he began to help her. My son and I waited for another 25 minutes and the associate was nowhere to be seen. After another 15 minutes I observed the associate that had helped us earlier walking towards the helmet section. I asked the associate if he could please help us with the helmets he had shown us earlier. The associate said, "I'm sorry, I'm on my lunch." I don't have a problem with you taking a break or your lunch, but please don't tell me you'll be right back and then go help a cute girl. Long story short, my son and I walked out disgusted with the service. As I walked out, I noticed several customers standing around the checkout counter with no associates around to help. I went to Fun Bike Center and purchased 2 helmets and some other accessories. Abunch of great guys/gals over there! I already recommended them to some of my riding coworkers who needed a shop that was open on Sundays. I walked in as a brand new non-rider and they helped me pick gear appropriate for my ride, and made sure all of the gear I got, properly fits which, without them, I would've definitely picked the wrong size. They also weren't shy about letting me know about deals/discounts and how to apply for them. I came in to try on jackets to upgrade my 7y/o riding jacket. I was fortunate enough to get help from Rico who spent an inordinate amount of time helping me understand the various features of a few models I was considering. I also asked about a couple of other products with which he was equally helpful and knowledgeable. If everyone in Rico's role were just knowledgeable, friendly and helpful (and they may very well be), perhaps other people would buy a $900 riding jacket without the sales-person every suggesting they buy anything. In fact, I did not have the credit card I wanted to use, on my person at the time I was in the store but was very insistent that Rico and his team get credit for the sale. I went home, picked up the phone, and placed my order with Rico later the same day. I've never gotten anything less than stellar customer service at this store and strongly recommend you consider shopping there for motorcycle gear from entry level to professional. read more

This is one of the bigger Cycle Gear stores we've been to (the other one that we are most familiar with is in LA). Lots of space, great selection and great post-Thanksgiving deals. And of course the staff are very helpful and friendly (it seems to me riders are just really nice to each other in general). I finally made my first helmet purchase so that I could ride as a passenger. It's after Thanksgiving, and apparently it's the best deal for the Shoei RF-1200 helmet my husband has ever seen. So even though we weren't actually planning on purchasing anything when we walked in, we ended up whipping out the credit card. Aside from the sales, I liked that this store had a sizable Women's section. There were several female customers entering the store to buy their own stuff, so that must mean something! They had a vast selection of ladies jackets in both textile and leather, although I didn't see the Dainese ones I was looking to purchase. (Instead I found size XS gloves marked down to almost 50%. That was also apparently a must-buy-now-item based on the price.) I was considering taking a rider's course to get the first-time rider discounts for all the gear I might need (and get that badass M on my driver's license) but no need for that now, as long as I'm content with being just a passenger! read more

Just bought my first motorcycle off OfferUp yesterday l, went into a Harley Davidson store earlier today, felt a little awkward and out of place a bit.. and prices were so high on top of it. Went home to reevaluate then went to Cycle Gear armed with minimal knowledge in searching for a helmet. I was perusing the helmets trying on ones I read about online when a wonderful human named STEPHANIE came and bestowed a fountain of knowledge super willingly and happily. She taught me the proper fit for helmets and what to look for when trying them on which I had no idea so it was immensely useful. We went helmet to helmet helping me find the perfect one. Made the whole experience so enjoyable and I felt very welcome. Went around the store and checked all the gear I'd need to accumulate to safely start riding, whewww it's a lot. I was trying jackets on when Stephanie passed by on her way helping someone and taught me that jackets need to be tight, not loose how I normally dress, for safety. Duh. As I walked around w my friend, other employees kept casually checking in on us if we needed any help which was good. Eventually I built up the courage to ask one of them a question about jackets. BEN was also immensely helpful. Answered and humored my noobie questions and gave me multiple options from cost to safety and style and comfort. Was so sick. He also continued answering questions about gloves too. Showed me a bunch of things he recommended weighing cost, safety, style, and comfort again. And since he was doing such a good job and was so informative I was like ok cool how about pants. And he did it again! So informative and casual! The employees were all so authentically welcoming when talking to a blundering buffoon like me into a lifestyle they're so obviously passionate about. While the employees are both nice and helpful, buyer beware. There's typically a significant price different between the product offered on their website and what they try to change you online. I reserved a tire online for $78 yesterday, they tried to charge $91 on pickup today ($99 otd). This has happened for air filters, oil, gloves, etc. I'm not sure whether there's a communication break between corporate or it's the local management but this keeps happening (over months and frequently enough it's not a weird something-just-went-on-sale issues). Make sure you've checked prices online if you don't want to pay $10+ more an item than the online price. read more

Little did I know, in the shit storm that was 2020, my day would be brightened by a Fluffy Cow. I'm using their spirit animal name rather than their real one to protect the guilty. In the course of a single visit, Fluffy Cow discussed barnyard attractions with my Mexican friend, questioned my self identifying as a T-Rex and made me wonder if I was really a Brontosaurus the whole time. On the more complimentary side, they laughed at my painfully English snarkasm and called my Mexican buddy buying the same gear as my pasty British self, "a fabulous rainbow coalition." They also sell motorcycle stuff, I guess. And with an attitude like that, they sold us a grand and a half's worth. So corporate should be happy. Ask them about their Tinder profile. Went in today to get a new visor for my Shoei helmet, as my transitions lens had stopped transitioning...lol. Spoke with Ben about how long they should last (purchased maybe a year and half ago), and he checked online to see if he could get me any info, but could not find anything regarding longevity. Instead of leaving it at that, he offered to give me a new shield at no charge. I was dumbfounded as these shields are $200 by themselves.
