~ UNETHICAL, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND PETTY ~ *Note: I don't enjoy, and rarely give 1-star reviews (check my profile; there are less than a handful), but if it were possible, I'd give Clark & Sons negative stars. After 3 years, I feel it's safe enough and appropriate to share our experience, hoping it helps others avoid the rude, unprofessional, and unethical service we received from them. At that, take a look at the other 1-star reviews and responses from the owner in a similar tone. In 2021 right after purchasing our home we knew we needed to replace our HVAC system. After reading all these great reviews, we decided to reach out to this family-owned business for an estimate. The initial visit went smoothly-- we even let the estimator cut several large strategic holes in our ceiling to get a better look at the ductwork and provide accurate duct mapping. He spent about 45 minutes inspecting the holes and even went up into our attic to assess the job. A couple of days later, we received the estimate, agreed to it, and signed the contract (pictured). On the day Clark & Sons showed up to start the work, they began immediately with little communication. Four hours into the job, a worker told us that, due to our duct pathways, they would need an extra $2,700 to complete the job. We mentioned that the required work they were bringing up was already outlined in our original contract and we would not be paying more. They took a look at the contract, called a supervisor, and after he arrived they talked outside for about 10 minutes only to tell us that they were standing firm in asking for additional payment. We repeated that the work described was already listed in the original signed contract and that we wouldn't pay more due to errors made by the estimator's poor duct mapping, who had sufficient time and access during the job walk. Whoever the supervisor was, Joey (?), immediately responded condescendingly, saying, "It is what it is," and refused to acknowledge their mistake or complete the job without extra payment. We let them know that they could leave our property if that was the case. Now to the unprofessional and unethical part... As they were leaving in a hurry, muttering and swearing under their breath, one of the workers purposely nicked and punctured a gas line they had installed earlier. We didn't notice the damage until a few hours later, even after allowing a few of the workers to come back to pick up some tools they accidentally left behind after leaving in such a huff. We didn't realize this was malicious until after hiring a different company (who successfully completed and did a stellar job), that was confused by the damage and speculated it might have been done to prevent us from using the created gas line with another company. This behavior is both completely unacceptable and petty. This experience was not only awful but also led us to file a complaint to the BBB due to their unethical actions. There are plenty of other HVAC companies in this area that we've contacted and received bids from, and I would recommend them instead. Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of this one. read more

Who would ever have thought that getting new heat and air could be such a pleasurable experience? Well it was. From my first contact with office manager (and wife) Kat and then Joey's visit to my home for us to discuss options, and then the crew making the installation, every part of the experience was a pleasure. I was very impressed how well the crew worked with each other. They were clearly very knowledgeable of their trade, they were very courteous, and just a pleasure to watch. The installation was lawless, these guys were perfectionists! I got a ductless split system with both a "head" wall unit in a large bedroom and a "cassette" ceiling unit in the living room. All these units, even the outdoor one, running very quietly and efficiently. Everything works like a charm and the whole experience was excellent. I could not be happier! Good service with matching fair pricing They were very responsive to my Yelp request which was a good sign. They were very fair and offered me a compelling price for doing the furnace check ups and installing the nest thermostats. The only thing I would recommend they improve on is to take pictures of your furnace with serial number to provide you as well as give you the pictures of the serial number of the nest thermostat. I now realize I will have to remove them again to take pictures in order to get them connected to my phone. They did not try to upsell me. We had an attic heater replaced by Clark & Sons in Oct 2024. They did professional work at the best price/value wrt three other local bidders. They included a variable-speed version, a new return plenum and EQ-resistant mounting. Cost was 37% lower than a comparable bid, which did not include new plenum and EQ-resist mounting. I recommend them highly. Note that one of the bidders included a clause saying the quoted price is an estimate and added cost may be incurred at their discretion. After receiving several proposals for a new HVAC system in my Westlake Village home, I decided to accept the proposal from Clark and Sons Aire of Oxnard to replace my 27 year-old furnace and air conditioning unit with a heat pump. I called Joey Clark on Tuesday, had a proposal on Wednesday, and had a new heat pump and air handler installed on Thursday. Talk about service! They removed the old furnace in the attic, and removed the air-conditioner, replaced some ducting, added a breaker to my electrical panel, and installed the new air handler and heat pump in about 8 hours. The crew were knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. The thermostat is wifi ready, and they explained the operation clearly. After getting several estimates, I thought that Clark Aire was both the most knowledgeable and the most reasonable ($). They were incredibly responsive with questions as I sorted the estimates, and made the least effort to up-sell a system (I went with a straight heat pump vs the dual fuel systems others wanted to sell, and Clark was still less $). I can basically repeat all of the other 5 star reviews that they have received (all are consistently accurate) everyone that I dealt with was spot on, knowledgeable, professional, courteous (even with our slightly hyper puppy), clean, etc. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to any and all. read more

These guys were referred to me by my neighbor. My furnace would not light and stay running. They promptly came out that same day. Repair tech didn't seem super knowledgeable. Blew a fuse on my furnace immediately. Then replaced fuse and reset furnace. It ran for him but he said my inducer fan was noisy but working. The furnace quit 2 hours after I paid my 95$. I inspected the inducer fan myself. It was hot to the touch and did not spin freely. Electrical humming from it because it was obviously seized or had bad bearings. The next day I contacted them and requested they come out to replace my inducer fan. I even gave them the part number. They told me they wouldn't work on my 1998 furnace and I should replace it!! Easily a $10,000 job! So I said forget it and ordered the part myself, installed it the next day in 30 minutes. My furnace is running beautifully again. The repair cost me $300 total. I realize other parts could fail but it's way cheaper to fix than replace in most cases. Especially if you are mechanically inclined. After I vented to the owner they offered to refund my $95 initial inspection fee so I appreciate that. They may be prompt and friendly but they are not there to fix your furnace. No money in that for them. They want to replace your units and make big money. read more

I live in L.A. but my mom lives in Oxnard. It was last December right before Christmas when I called Clarke & Sons Aire to check on my moms Heater which had stopped working in the middle of winter! I knew the unit was old, since I was the original buyer for the home and never had any repairs done. The unit was over 20 years old. I expected they would tell mom the whole unit needed to be replaced. But that was not the case. The technician identified the part that needed to be replaced and explained that if he could get that part installed & working the unit should be fine. He said the unit was old but overall In good condition. He was able to install the new part and got the heater working great. We haven't had any problems since. Wow, just Wow! I can't say enough good things about this company. I had a main water leak in my pipes which was shooting directly into my furnace under the house. Connor went under there and said it was shot and we needed a new furnace but that it had to be relocated to the attic. Can you say $$$$?!! He assured me that they would be able to get the job done in 3-4 days. Well, they finished in 3 days and since we weren't able to be there because, you know, work, they even watched our dog to make sure she didn't get out and kept her company. They had to cut into our ceilings to install vents and intake but everything looks so professional. They cleaned up after themselves and their team was awesome and very respectful.
